Anytime I visit Madison, you better believe that a trip, or two, to Colectivo Coffee is on the agenda! This Colectivo sits downtown on the corner of Main and Pickney and is a delightful place to grab & go, or hang out for a while. I normally do both, but my favorite is hanging out for a bit, just in case I need a refill on the goods! The space is decent size and is broken up into a few spaces that serve different functions from the closed off room up front that is more for those working or on laptops, to the main area where all the action is, all the way to the back room which is a combination space providing semi-privacy and space for larger groups. I always look for seats at the window, not only do I enjoy people watching, but the calm that is downtown Madison is a perfect compliment to the coffee! And it is always fun watching the line for Marigold go up and down. I have not sampled any of the food here, but they have a lot of your standard baked goods, pastries, cookies, etc...as well as a fairly expansive menu of made to order items from burritos, sandwiches, parfaits, and more...for both breakfast and lunch. Service was stellar and helpful. From the counter to the Barista. The space was well kept and very clean. The main draw for me and what made me fall in love with the brand is two of their iced coffee drinks...the Smoked Vanilla Mocha and my absolute favorite, the Iced Cold Brew Oat-Chata. I left Madison craving that Oat-chata and have since been trying to recreate at home. I have come close, but it's just not the same! Stopped here early on a Saturday morning just as the market was starting up. The line had a few people waiting and it was slow moving for a bit. As one who's worked the early morning coffee shift before on the square, I get it. It's tough when people don't know what to order or take too long but then they went down to one register instead of two. One person was kind of standing in the back watching - for what, I don't know. I brought in a reusable mug but was still charged the full price and didn't get the reusable cup discount. Fine - still happy to not add extra waste. However, the coffee was SCALDING hot and it took a while to cool down in the insulated mug. Better than cold coffee, I guess. The price hasn't been worth it for me for a while with Colectivo but I dig the ambiance this store has to offer. Also, free parking around the corner which was an added bonus. All in all, not bad but not great. They do have a handy window option open for the market which looks like a great idea. read more

Watch for the long line, they advertise their app to avoid getting stuck in a long cue. Both very good and the cardamom honey latte didn't taste too strong (I was worried that it would be too much cardamom taste), very subtle. Great coffee shop just across from the State Capitol in the heart of downtown Madison. I stopped in for an evening latte and a muffin and definitely will be checking this place out again. The non-fat latte was expertly made and the blueberry muffin served as a nice evening snack after having a lunch later in the day thereby forgoing a big dinner. The menu looked great across the board with a nice variety of coffees, teas and more available to drink and some nice food options available, as well. In addition to the pastry case there were some delicious egg options and some other bowls available, as well. The interior is spacious and warm and would be a good spot to fire up the laptop, have a coffee and get some work done. Next time I am in Madison, definitely will be hitting up Collective Coffee again and encourage you to check it out, as well! read more

I can't get enough of this place. Amazing bagels, a useful, easy to use app (unlike chipotle) with generous rewards, and a perfect selection of premium coffee, tea and cocoa drinks. There's a feel good, UBU, laid back atmosphere. Employees are unionized and that means you don't need to worry about them dropping bitter underpaid vibes into your morning sauce. Prices are comparable to Starbucks IMO. I especially like their selection of sugar free specialty drinks. I like a hot caramel latte. I do miss their maple syrup dipped breakfast sausage croissant-bring it back please. Finally a suggestion too. Food orders should be readied with drink orders. Two trips with a laptop in a crowd is unfun. There are outlets for the WFH herd. Clean bathrooms (don't leave your valuables everywhere not just here.) read more

I was thrilled to hear they added a vegan Impossible Just Egg Bagel to the menu! There aren't many places to get a vegan breakfast sandwich in Madison and with multiple Colectivo locations, it makes it pretty easy to grab one on the fly. The everything bagel comes toasted and the hearty seeds/grains help it to stand out from other everything bagels in town. The avocado is a great addition as well. The service was quick and the sandwich warm and fresh. The cafe has plenty of room to dine in and there's even outdoor seating. I'm also a huge fan of their smoothies (the MPG & Green Hornet ), and macaroons. They have a huge tea and coffee selection, and even have beer on the menu. The interior is cool and eclectic. Love how the windows open up and the outside can be brought in. Service is great! But, like most places, the lunch hour can take a bit if you're ordering food. I end up going here before work frequently because I'm a fan of the discount for bringing your own mug. However, I will say that it would be nice if the brewed coffee would be slightly more varied with the options. Really, I just mean it would be nice if they had two coffees with different roasts and acidity levels on the daily. I'm a fan of a lower acidity medium roast, which isn't something that they typically have. I've also had the weird phenomena here that when I add the soy beverage into my coffee, it kind of curdles on itself, not really sure what that is about. Even though the coffee is hit or miss for me, the tea always seems to be what I want. The sport tea is my go to in the summer, always light and refreshing. The food here is always really good. I like stopping by over lunch to pick up some soup, as there is almost always a variety that I want to try. They have also let me mix two varieties of the soups. The sandwiches are also pretty good and unique. I would definitely say to check out the specials as they change weekly. read more

Looking back at old reviews, it's hard to see myself in them. I still like to keep my chain coffeehouse use low-key, but this is not the chain place I'd choose to go any longer. The open atmosphere interior is still one of my favorite things about this place, and on a breezy spring or fall day, not much beats sitting there with an iced coffee knocking some emails out. But there's not much else to write home about. As I've said in other Colectivo reviews (and Barriques reviews, and Starbucks reviews....), I wouldn't opt to eat the food here any longer. It's the same food as every other Colectivo, and while I'm sure some college student really is assembling most of my sandwich in some unseen kitchen, the monotony and familiarity of the menu makes the food feel prepackaged and microwaved, and the pastries feel shipped in last week from some Milwaukee family. (Too be clear, none of these food statements are factually based, just my feels.) But the espresso and coffee are the best you are going to get in a chain shop, and the availability of beer by the glass is a nice option. read more

Colectivo is highly recommended on the internet when one looks up coffee shops in the Madison area. It was relatively close to my hotel (5 minute walk) so I came in here at least twice during my time in Madison. Service is always friendly and very quick. I was in and out within 10-15 minutes, even with a line going out the door. The coffee is pretty good and they have a lot of options for people who are looking for a more specialized brew. Seating is also ample, for those who want to get some work done while grabbing a cup of coffee. read more

A great coffee spot on the square. The ambiance is super inviting and the baristas are great. I work on the square and this is a regular coffee spot for my colleagues and me. There is enough space to have a meeting over coffee or lunch! Their food is perfect for a needed snack, breakfast or lunch. My regular is an americano, so it's hard to mess that up. But, I do occasionally enjoy a molasses cookie, which is super yummy. Just the right amount of crispness on the edges, yet soft in the middle. read more

On our way to Wisconsin Dells, my hubby needed a coffee and had the bright idea that he was just going to make a quick stop in Madison. 1.5 hours later, after some sight-seeing and photo taking, and an unexpected lunch, we were back on the road rushing to our next destination... because our family is officially the slowest family on the planet! The vibe was great, and it was fun bringing our kiddos to such a cool hipster place. In truth, it was probably a little too hipster, because when my hubby insisted they each eat a falafel sandwich for lunch, they only took a couple of bites and we were on to Quiznos. Can't say we didn't try. Coffee was a bit too strong for me, but he really enjoyed it. However, I did have the opportunity to try the falafel sandwich, and it was a fantastic value. Nice portion size, fresh and crumbly with a pretty nice spicy kick to it. I didn't try the cucumber mint sauce that came with it, but my hubby loved it so much he used it for his potato chip dipping sauce too. From the outside the place looks a bit small, but don't be fooled. Aside from a lovely outdoor patio, there is actually an entire back seating section. We were there around lunch time, and the place was busy but still roomy. They sell their own brand of beans, t-shirts, mugs, etc. The pastries looked amazing! I completely regret not ordering up one of their croissants. Fun stop for when you want to feel cool. There is a kids menu, but it's mostly "healthy" food according to my 11 year olds. I stopped by Colectivo today for my morning coffee. I ordered a large almond milk latte. Anywhere else I'd order a medium, but the sizing is a little odd at Colectivo. The small is only 8 ounces, so take this into consideration and be sure to look at the cup sizes before placing your order. My latte was delicious as usual. However, the service was a little slow today. I was the only person waiting on a drink and it took about 10 minutes to get my latte. While I was waiting I could see the baristas just chatting and not working on my drink. Overall good experience, just wish the service was a little better. read more

So I visit Madison several times a year for work. This particular visit brought me near the capital. What a discovery in finding this gem. I tried the horchata cold Brew (cold brew, oat milk, vanilla and cinnamon I believe). I can only describe it as a slight taste of perfection, including a perfect balance of flavors. The more I visit colectivo, the more I love it. I had never heard of this coffee change before moving to Milwaukee. Their almond chai latte is to die for. It has the perfect mix of sweetness and spiciness. I recently tried some of their soup dishes an was presently surprised as well. I had the pleasure of having one of their breakfast burritos. It had baked potatoes, eggs, and bacon. It was well made, not greasy. It was noticeable that they took time making this dish and wanted it to be flavorful but healthy. I am not a fan of coffee but I tried their turkey roast brew at one point and I have to say, colectivo is trying to make this tea girl into a coffee chick. This is the perfect place for study groups, late night solo study or work sessions. It is the quintessential study/hang/ lets get a cup of coffee on our first date spot. We stopped into Colectivo on Labor Day because they were literally the only place open on the Square. Which means that we were among the masses battling for a table and delicious breakfast. The staff were a little overwhelmed, but they all handled the chaos wonderfully. We ordered our drinks and food at the counter. We waited for our drinks and then sat down to wait for our food. I had a cold brew, and my husband ordered the nitro cold brew. Both were fantastic. We both ordered a burrito; I had the Chorizo and he had the Potato Bacon. Both were good, but mine was better ;) While we were waiting in line to order, I had a chance to scope out the pastries. So obviously on our way out, I had to go back and get a Pumpkin Cranberry muffin to go. Which turned out to be an excellent choice, it was delicious. read more

I'm ready to accept my challenge to review Alterra after 3 visits. First impression= WoW. Love the how the windows open up to the square, food looked beautiful in the display case, lots of tables, good vibe and coffee was good. Second impression= okay, I still like this place. Bathrooms are okay given the no sink in bathroom idea. Food is still delicious. We tried the BLT, egg sandwich and a yogurt parfait. Third impression= Coffee was excellent, ordered the falafel sandwich which was a B+. Lastly, it's a keeper. Wish they had later hours.
