I don't know who I was texting with in the end. They quoted me $100. The two workers arrived right on time, were very polite, and did a beautiful job! However, they spoke no English and used a phone app to communicate. (You speak into the phone, they read the Portuguese that's generated, then they speak into the phone and it spits out English. Who knows how accurate it is.) I lived in a foreign country for 6 years and while I wasn't fluent, I had some proficiency in the language... admittedly I worked in an industry where people spoke English, but for day-to-day things I was glad I could read and handle basic conversations. (This was pre-smart phone.) I'd love to hire Rose's Cleaning for their organizing service, but can't imagine how you'd do that with someone you couldn't talk to. They get good reviews for that, so maybe I'll try it. I'm skeptical but interested. If all you need is cleaning it probably doesn't matter that no one can speak to each other without a phone translator. Their work was beautiful and they were punctual and polite. My main concern was the new rug we'd had installed and the off-gassing/ odor. Marc was able to power-clean it twice until now there is no odor at all. I operate a clinic and people have commented how very clean it feels in here, which is of course important. The first time he power-cleaned the rug he was very cautious to make sure there was no bad reaction with the rug. He uses non-toxic, low and no/odor products. He also is extremely affordable. Nice as can be, as well. He was able to fix several lamps that needed tweaking while he was on-site cleaning- he does things like this without my having to ask him, and for free.

However, one day I was working from home when they came - by chance they dropped my bike onto the ground when they were moving it around to clean. It happened right in front of my eyes with a loud crash. Later upon inspection a piece from the front derailleur had broken off. Luis the owner was not accommodating and was quite condescending about the situation, directly saying that it was the bike's problem if it broke so easily. (How about just not dropping someone's bike to the ground? It's not something that easily falls and crashes onto the floor) I've since ceased working with Silva Cleaning and gone with other cleaners.
