I went to Dr. Boyd for inflammatory eye disease. He did not take patient or medication history. When it recurred, he declared the recurrence and spread impossible. He barely checked my eyes and said I had few scratches on my cornea but if what I was doing was working to just keep doing it. I went to another Ophthalmologist two days later who understands the link between immune conditions and eye disease. I have corneal ulcer and eye disease in both eyes. I was very surprised to see the negative reviews about Dr. Boyd, my experience couldn't have been farther from those! He was very attentive to everything. Double checking things before the surgery and making sure everything was in order. Taking the time to explain the risks and differences between LASIK and PRK and making sure I understood everything. The staff also was very patient, kind, and even funny, working at keeping me as relaxed as possible. I opted to go with LASIK and couldn't be happier with the results. Was sent to Dr. Boyd by my doctor for a complete eye exam to see whether my incipient diabetes was affecting my vision. My first visits were a 5 my last experience definitely a 0 as they were no help to me at all ,I left messages and not one return so I went in and tried to see what they could do all I got was I needed another referral so I asked if they could write a prescription up as my iritus can be taken care of with certain eyedrops, there solution was to get pharmacy to fax over the eyedrops and they will show Dr Boyd and he will approve, we'll it's been 3 days and nothing, I phoned yesterday and she said he looked and was sent out ,that was a lie as I talked to pharmacy before I called they have recieved nothing then she backtracked and said she will get it sorted and nothing still.I booked a appointment with a optometrist today and my eye was quite bad and painful and he was shocked that Boyd did nothing ,I read a review where he does emergencies well not help here. This optometrist after my 30 min visit prescribed me the meds that I needed and I have only used the one eyedrop 3 times and I notice a improvement already ,I will say I will no longer go to Boyd or recommend it to anyone . read more

I needed cataract surgery desperately and there was months long wait times in Vancouver. Boyd vision saw me right away and did the surgery immediately. Ive gotten my eyes lasered by boyd about 7 months ago. When i first got them done i was extremely pissed off at the fact he did not advise me that during my healing process it waa going to be quite uncomfortable and that i should have someone around to help me. After that.... ive been waking uo everyday with pain in my right eye. My vision has been corrected but this guy is not the guy u want doing ur eyes. If I could give this spineless man named Dr. Boyd 0 stars BELIEVE me I would. BEWARE stay far far away. I went to his office because I had concerns over an eye infection that has been bothering me for days on end. He immediately dismissed me and kept interrupting with words like "YEAH right" under his breath with a condescending manner and rolling his eyes. I thought I was dreaming. He actually refused to look at my eye and treat me when I asked him to wear gloves before touching my eye and face as a few seconds before that he was rubbing inside his ear with his fingers. GROSS and unhygienic!! He became irrational and his face turned steaming red and he gave me the scariest look I have ever seen. He flat out told me I was wasting his time and to go somewhere else. He must've felt superior to me because I questioned his professionalism when he had 0 regard for my safety and health. To refuse to wear gloves when a patient is requesting it goes beyond words of why this man shouldn't be practicing. I will be making a personal complaint to the College of Physicians Surgeons about this situation. I have felt more regard and professionalism at a truck stop gas station. read more

I went to Dr Boyd for a consultation. He was very thoroughly. He made sure I understand there might be complications etc. He advise me the good and bad about the PRK. I felt totally confident with him after I left his office. I also did do a consultation at London Eye. I choose Dr Boyd cause you get to talk to the Dr on the consultation vs speaking to tech at London eye. I did do the PRK. My eyes were a bit irritated afterwards. Taking the T3 really helped. I had PRK surgery last week (Friday Oct 2nd) with Dr. Boyd and couldn't be happier! My eyes are still healing but already I feel a great improvement in my vision. Dr. Boyd and his amazing staff took the time to answer all my questions and address all my concerns. The procedure was quick and painless and the after care was explained and all necessary eye drops and eye wear was provided. Dr. Boyd even provides his personal number in case there's an emergency or concerns between appointments. Very professional and caring atmosphere. In general, I have a higher then normal level of anxiety and pre PRK surgery my anxiety was definitely heightened but the staff took their time with me and never made me feel pressured or rushed. Wow!! This is the first time I have ever been compelled to write a negative review. In this case, I wish I could choose between 0 and -5 stars!!! Having been referred by a walk-in clinic near school (Simon Fraser University) I had a difficult time finding the location. I called for specific directions, and the receptionist was very pleasant, explained that the address is misleading, and told me where to go. I arrived, and she was still very polite, despite my being 10 minutes or more late . I waited no longer than 20 minutes before being taken in to an exam room by an eye technician of some sort. He was great! It seemed like he enjoyed his job, and was eager to help find the solution to my vision concerns. The trouble started when the opthamologist, "Michael J. Boyd, M.D.", came in to grab something. Obviously in a hurry, he barely acknowledged me, but said he would be right back before scuttling off again. He returned in 5-10 minutes, instead of asking anything, or even introducing himself, he immediately started in on the attack. WHY was I here, if I already have contacts that correct my sight to 20/20??!! I told him my concerns: For the past 6 months I have been noticing my vision is blurry, neither my contacts nor glasses correct this issue and my eyes discharge a sticky mucus every day. I have been to the optometrist twice already, and given my very busy full time school and work schedule, this is causing significant impairment, distress, and disability. Hmm. Maybe he should have read the referral or the notes jotted down earlier by his assistant. I immediately got nervous, and began shifting uncomfortably in my chair. He was so unprofessional, he offered none of the common courtesy or concern usually expressed by medical professionals. The visit was barely tolerable- after it became painfully clear that he was not interested in hearing my concerns, answering my questions, or examining my eyes, I tried to escape. This man had the WORST bedside manner I have ever seen or experienced in my life.He essentially yelled at me, raised his voice, and shot down or interrupted every piece of information/research that I had found so far as a possible explanation. When I started visibly tearing up, he became even ruder. I asked why a family Dr. would send me to him, if he was unable or unwilling to listen/answer any of my questions, examine my eyes ,or provide any solutions to my problem- he said he didn't know and would contact the clinic. Obviously my situation was a big waste of his time, considering he is supposedly a reputable Physician and Surgeon. I asked about laser and implants, he said it would make it worse, and once again raised his voice to let me know that he, nor any other opthamologist would use implants on someone my age. As if I should have known... Perhaps he thought I had years of education and training in specialty medicine and that explains why my questions and concerns sounded so stupid? Who knows, he didn't bother to explain. I have never been treated with such disrespect by a so called professional in my life. This man should have his license revoked, people this abrasive belong behind bars, or closed doors, away from the general public. read more

I appreciate Doctor Boyd because I know he is highly intelligent and that's what I really want. He caught my early AMD and suggested that I should try specific vitamins and that's what I'm doing and it seems to be helping. I had to go to dr Boyd on two occasions. I had a growth in my eye and my optometrist referred me to dr Boyd to have it removed. My first visit seemed like a complete waste of a trip, especially as I had to leave work early to go, he was probably with me a total of two minutes after I waited 20-30 to see him and he barely glanced at my eye, just said I could wait it out or have it removed but that it should resolve itself. We booked my appointment for a couple weeks later and when I saw him he said again I should wait for it to fall off. I finally went back again and waited probably over an hour...when I went in the room there was bloody tissue and tools from a previous patient...a little disturbing for me as i was already very nervous and totally unhygienic for a medical facility. He removed it and all went to plan, I was put in the back room to recover as I had fainted during the procedure and was left alone with no further instruction on what to do or if they were coming back or if anything further needed to be done medically. Overall the procedure was successful, but he was clearly pushing through as many patients as possible and seemed rushed and like he had no investment in me any of the times I saw him. read more

On Nov 27, 2012 I called BoydVision and scheduled a free consultation to discover if I am a candidate for laser correction. Dr. Boyds statement on his web site http://www.boydvision.ca/ reads the following: "Preoperative laser vision assessments and consultation are FREE". When I arrived for the appointment on Nov 27, 2012 at 4:00pm, I double checked with the receptionist at the front desk that this is a free assessment and I will not be charged anything for this appointment. She confirmed the same. Week later I receive a bill from Dr Boyd for the services held on Nov 27, 2012 for the amount of $80.Dr. Boyd and Boydvision company mislead and defraud their customers, by making false oral and online statements. Reply from Dr. Boyd to my BBB claim: "This patient called for a free consult and was insistent on getting in immediately, the same day. He advised us that he was not a candidate for laser eye surgery after a "free" consult elsewhere and also mentioned that he felt the prescription for glasses he got from elsewhere was not accurate. This is why he wanted to come to our clinic, not for the free consult, but to get another assessment, free examination and prescription for glasses. We gladly book people in for the FREE consult and testing required to determine if a patient is a candidate for laser surgery but that does not include examination for a prescription for glasses. He was advised that while the consult is free, if he requested a prescription for glasses he would be charged $80 for the visit. If he went to an optometrist for a prescription he would be charged a lot more for the visit and prescription. He left with a prescription so we sent him an invoice, as the only reason he came to our clinic was to obtain a "FREE" prescription for glasses and to compare what he got from another laser clinic." Statements from Dr. Boyd reply: "He advised us that he was not a candidate for laser eye surgery after a "free" consult elsewhere", "mentioned that he felt the prescription for glasses he got from elsewhere was not accurate", "This is why he wanted to come to our clinic, not for the free consult, but to get another assessment free examination and prescription for glasses"," as the only reason he came to our clinic was to obtain a "FREE" prescription for glasses and to compare what he got from another laser clinic. - are ALL not TRUE, a pure fabrication of facts and assumptions. I have never intended or requested examination for a prescription for glasses. Glass prescription given me by Dr. Boyd has never been used and was returned back to him by registered mail. Instead of admitting accounting mistake and honoring free vision assessment and consultation as it is promised on his web site, Dr. Boyd in retaliation of my BBB claim accused me in things I have never said or did. There is no HONOR in this. He is not practicing medicine ethically and honestly. read more

I had PRK laser eye surgery performed just over a month ago by Dr. Boyd and couldn't be happier. I highly, highly recommend Dr. Boyd Vision Centre. I went to two other places before deciding to go with Dr. Boyd. The main reasons I choose his office was I actually met with Dr. Boyd during the initial consultation (unlike the others) and he described exactly his concerns with my eyes and why. Side note: I didn't have a choice between lasik and PRK because of my thin cornea and slight "bulge" in my left eye but in analyzing the differences, I would still have gone with PRK. As far as my recovery, the day after was not bad, two day after was horrendous but then just got better from there and by day four I was nearly back to normal life. The contact bandage was removed after my second visit back with no pain and by my one month visit he said he could hardly tell I had laser surgery and I can see 20/20! (prescription before was OD: -2.00 OS: -4.00 +3.5 x 90; I had a pretty bad astigmatism in my left eye). Moral of the story, if you want a very honest, no-frills, reliable, knowledgable, friendly doctor, Dr. Boyd is your guy. Also WAY less wait time than other offices, they actually care about you. I don't need coffee and a fish tank in the lobby (especially if you don't spend anytime there), I need a really great eye surgeon and that's Dr. Boyd. Oh and did I mention it was also significantly cheaper than the two others I saw? read more
