This is such a great idea for a business. Nigerian small chops can be hard to find packaged like this. Everything we ordered was so tasty. We got two of the Boxochops Meats Platter and some bottles of Zobo for our group, and we enjoyed every bit of it. The turkey wings were probably my fave part. The inside is kinda small, but there are a couple tables if you want to dine-in. It probably can seat about 15 ppl inside across all the tables. I recommend this business! read more

Just excellent. Had the smoky jollof rice with goat. It was well seasoned and spicy but in a way that added to the dish. I tried the kunu drink which I wasn't expecting it to be fermented but was tasty though might not be to everyones liking, if you like kombucha I would suggest checking it out. The service is a little slow since it's just a small place in a strip mall but the food was fresh and worth the wait. I look forward to coming back the next time I'm in town. read more

Really good experience here. The jollof rice is so fragrant and packed with flavor. Puff puffs were freshly fried and very springy, not too sweet. Rice with designer stew was spicy but still really good. There were different meat parts that you could tell were stewed for a long time. One of the other things that impressed me were their homemade juices that they have bottled. I got the zobo which was refreshing and had a little kick to it. Would definitely come back! read more

I've been doing business with local Nigerian restaurants for decades but this one is different. This one is price gouging at its best. The takeout menu presented have the prices covered up with blue sharpie. To summarize, they charged $75 for food that is marginal at best and way overpriced. Too good to be true, was my first experience of jeloff rice, plantains and gizzard kabobs was very good. However, this week when I went back the kabobs were different. It was if this was not the same place. The kabobs didn't have the banging seasonings nor did they have the same mouth watering appearance. These looked unattractive and smaller in portion. I was so excited to try this place!!!! I grew up eating lots of Nigerian food so having a place in Plano where I could grab a bite w friends and family is near and dear to my heart. Walking in the restaurant was cute and clean with a beautiful aesthetic and a cool signing wall. The lady at the front was kind and welcoming and let us know that it's family owned. I loved the feel of the place, I bought the hibiscus drink to sip on as I waited for my food (as someone who is picky I can tell you it was perfect mix between sweet and spiced). Since I was buying for the family, I took my food to go. It smelled so good on the way home that it was so hard not to eat in the car but I made it. My fam and I loved the jollof, egusi, pounded yam and fried plantains. The taste was good and traditional, you can def tell it's a Nigerian mama back in there cooking up a storm. They give us good portions for the price too which I was happy about ! I was too busy getting to eating that I forgot to take a pic of my main plate - but I included one of the Oreo puff puff which I also had to try! I love it here! The food is reminds me so much of back home! My favorite thing to order is the Ofada and asun! I go specifically on Sundays for the efo and I always pair it with a zobo. i always leave with a snack box to have for later. The fish roll and puff puff are always so fresh and tasty! everyone here is so nice and always greets me with a smile! I love how you can sign the wall and stamps that you've been there there. This is my 2nd time visiting Boxochops. I had a good experience the 1st time, hence the 2nd visit. This visit though was very disappointing. I went in today, which is Sunday, around 3:50. I spent $51 and I was unable to enjoy my food. First, the lady on the register did not place my order correctly. I asked for powdered sugar on all 3 orders of puff puff I ordered. They did rectify that issue. I ordered efo and asked for no meat and yet my soup had meat in it. All of the food was lukewarm. The puff puff was slightly hard and stale. The soup and pounded yam is too expensive for it not to be on point! I don't live in the area so I traveled an hour to get there. I wasted time, gas and money. I've never had Nigerian food, but it's really tasty and there's something for both the timid and the adventurous. You know, when you visit a restaurant, you expect to try the food and experience the service. I cannot say I had either at Boxochops. We visited the restaurant on Saturday evening around 6:30 pm, closing time is listed as 9 pm on their website, google, etc. Based on the closing time, illuminated "open" sign, the fact that the door was unlocked, we expected to walk in and place an order with no issues. Upon entering, the cashier asked if we were there to pickup or place an order. We said we were going to place an order. He then explained that they weren't taking any new orders or serving incoming customers because they were working on catering orders. So, basically, they had food but did not sell any of it to us because they were using it for catering. Sounds like poor planing to me. We left empty handed, disappointed, frustrated, and extremely hungry. As we sat in our car, looking for another place to eat, we saw others walk in and leave out just as disappointed and famished as we were. It seems that customer service isn't a priority at this establishment and honestly, I find it ridiculous that they're not prepared to serve incoming customers and fulfill catering orders at the same time when they claim to do both. Furthermore, why wouldn't you all at least turn off the 'open' sign or make it clear from the outside that you weren't going to take any new orders? Make it make sense. It was my first time at this restaurant. It is small, and cozy. Love the artwork on the wall. The owners are very warm and when I asked them for water, after I had finished paying, they were kind enough to give me free bottled water. I feel bad because it's a small business and I know how hard it is to make money with all the overhead. However, the food was fantastic, and they also gave me some extra spice powder because I wanted it extra spicy on the side. There is a genuine air of hospitality. Food took a little bit of time, but I guess you have to not mind waiting an extra few minutes for good food :-) definitely going back there. The jollof rice and pepper hen was excellent. there are not enough words to describe how much i love boxochops. i live maybe 5 minutes from stonebriar, and i have never seen any african foods anywhere in this vicinity - the other most exciting thing around is australian breakfast. seeing nigerian food, which isn't often found in dallas, genuinely fills me with joy. i've never heard of small chops as a phenomenon, but googling it brings up huge fried food party spreads and i think that's beautiful. this place has a lot of really delicious sweet and savory pastries, as well as meat kebabs, various west african entrees (i've seen chicken, beef, goat, fish, and snail as proteins so far) and in-house drinks like zobo, chapman, and kunu, as well as commercially sold soft drinks like coca-cola and vitamalt. my favorites are the spicy puff puff (like big unglazed donut holes, faintly sweet batter with a tiny bit of heat) beef samosas (beef-pea-carrot filling i think, served with thai chili sauce) and the meat pies. i also love the gizzard and chicken kebabs, which are very generously spiced, and the fish roll reminds me a lot of russian food, so i find it super comforting for my own reasons. the chapman drink is super refreshing and kind of like a mocktail in nature, while the zobo was spiced so strongly i found it slightly difficult to drink. i'll be updating this review whenever i manage to take photos of the food before i eat it or when i try their entrees (i am so intrigued by the peppered snails!!). finally, everyone at boxochops is super nice and will happily explain anything to you. i actually showed up twice at one point (having spent the whole day fasting and thus being slightly delirious), having forgotten that i took an item off my order and wondering why i didn't have it in my food bag earlier. i walked out fully reassured and bearing a free, freshly baked meat pie from the chef herself (because i'd switched to chicken pies earlier, being too impatient to wait). completely 180'd my mood. made my heart grow 3 sizes that day. changed my life. the moral of this story is that the employees at boxochops are so awesome and they have my heart forever. note: you can either order in advance online or check out whatever's available in person - if you're trying to get an assortment of pastries, i recommend ordering in advance to make sure they're fresh and ready at the same time. however, if you just want, like, two or three meat pies, you're probably good to go without preordering. also, because all the food is made fresh in small batches and people place a fair amount of catering orders at boxochops, there might be small waits for specific pastries sometimes. (they're worth the small waits. this is the cost of pure happiness.) read more

I have eaten at Boxochops a few times since they opened and I definitely enjoy the food. Their chicken pies are so so well seasoned. The asun and beef suya as well are always very tasty. The one issue I have is there's typically too much oil in the bowl whenever I get the suya or asun. And the asun has too many bones. Otherwise, great food! read more

Just meh...not here to drag anyone because I love supporting my people of color...just giving my one and only visit experience. First off, I was really looking forward to trying Jollof and enjoying it. Unfortunately it was not good. I ordered turkey with it. That was the toughest damn turkey that I have ever had in my life. I don't know if they gave me what had been overcooked and then overcooked it some more. Then add to that the fact that I ordered for curbside pickup...got there and waited in my car for about 15 minutes after the time I was told to pickup my food. Ended up going inside and had to still wait another 30-35 minutes after 4-5 more people who were already waiting. Come to learn...they hadn't even done anything close to getting it prepared.
