    Jollof rice with beef

Really good experience here. The jollof rice is so fragrant and packed with flavor. Puff puffs were freshly fried and very springy, not too sweet. Rice with designer stew was spicy but still really good. There were different meat parts that you could tell were stewed for a long time. One of the other things that impressed me were their homemade juices that they have bottled. I got the zobo which was refreshing and had a little kick to it. Would definitely come back!

My partner was craving food from his home country so decided to surprise him with this. Listen, this food was literally INEDIBLE because of the grease. Please watch video and see pics for yourself. This would give anyone an upset stomach. The patties are also 70% dough and 30% filling. Do not recommend at all.

I was so excited to try this place!!!! I grew up eating lots of Nigerian food so having a place in Plano where I could grab a bite w friends and family is near and dear to my heart. Walking in the restaurant was cute and clean with a beautiful aesthetic and a cool signing wall. The lady at the front was kind and welcoming and let us know that it's family owned. I loved the feel of the place, I bought the hibiscus drink to sip on as I waited for my food (as someone who is picky I can tell you it was perfect mix between sweet and spiced). Since I was buying for the family, I took my food to go. It smelled so good on the way home that it was so hard not to eat in the car but I made it. My fam and I loved the jollof, egusi, pounded yam and fried plantains. The taste was good and traditional, you can def tell it's a Nigerian mama back in there cooking up a storm. They give us good portions for the price too which I was happy about ! I was too busy getting to eating that I forgot to take a pic of my main plate - but I included one of the Oreo puff puff which I also had to try! They were sooo tasty- have a generous amount of the traditional puff puff around the soft, yummy Oreo center. I will definitely be back soon #CHOPLIFEGANG

This is my 2nd time visiting Boxochops. I had a good experience the 1st time, hence the 2nd visit. This visit though was very disappointing. I went in today, which is Sunday, around 3:50. I spent $51 and I was unable to enjoy my food. First, the lady on the register did not place my order correctly. I asked for powdered sugar on all 3 orders of puff puff I ordered. They did rectify that issue. I ordered efo and asked for no meat and yet my soup had meat in it. All of the food was lukewarm. The puff puff was slightly hard and stale. The soup and pounded yam is too expensive for it not to be on point! I don't live in the area so I traveled an hour to get there. I wasted time, gas and money. Although the food is pretty good, unfortunately after this experience, I will not be visiting again. The economy is in too poor a shape to be wasting o.

Every dish is amazing! It's black owned and the food represents our ancestors with honor. The puff puff is amazing. The jollof tastes as if it just got off the plane from back home. Writing this is actually making me hungry even though I just had some.

It directs to an article about this restaurant on D Magazine website. Not sure why the owner has not noticed and corrected that yet. If there is no website then Google should not show it at all. It is just confusing to customers. Second, their restaurant menu is not up to date. Majority of the items under "Les Grillades," "A La Braise," and "Sauces" were not available. We were told by the server that they used to make it in the past but not anymore. If not anymore, again, why the menu is not up to date? Why wasting customer's time? There is a picture of a full grilled chicken with coleslaw on Google. When asked for it, we were told it is a "Pepper Chicken" that is only available during the day time and we also have to order in advance. We didn't see this item on the menu and not sure how customers will know about this item and when to order. Pure carelessness from the owner! For the food, we ordered "Meat Pie," "Benachin," and "Afra/Dibi" chicken. Meat pie was good but little expensive in my opinion. Afra/Dibi chicken was good as well and also came up with a decent portion. What I didn't like about it is that it only came with a bunch of onions and nothing else. No sides at all which I thought was little bizarre specially for the price they are charging. I did not like Benachin! Small portion, expensive, and tasted just okay. It was just a boiled meat with some rice and vegetable curry. Vegetable curry was good but rest of the dish was just okay. I don't recommend this dish. Their customer service was iffy. We were not checked upon in a timely manner. There was a short hair African American lady and her customer service was good. There was another African American lady and she definitely needs training on her customer service and attitude. She would barely come to the table and hardly answer any questions or try to help. Rest of the time I saw her behind the counter spending time on her phone! This restaurant only has bottled water and they charge for it. I may or may not come back to this restaurant in the future.

I loved the pies, the flavor of both of them were really good and the crust was perfectly crunchy. The sauce they provided on the side was quite spicy. We decided to get the top 2 most popular items, the Benachin and Chicken Yassa. The Benachin had good stew meat and flavor, however the meat was a little tough for me. I really did love the onion and carrot mix on the side, it gave the dish so much flavor. The Chicken Yassa also had that onion mix, and this time included fried potatoes as well, which were lightly seasoned. The chicken flavor was good, but also a little on the drier side. Overall, a good experience! Portions were large too.

My husband and I had been here before and we got the noodles with the omelette to go because they were out of the Jollof rice. I remember that we were fighting over that noodles. Fast forward to today, I was craving some good flavor so I recalled this place and put in an order for peri-peri chicken bowl for my husband and salmon Jollof rice bowl for me with a side of plantain. It took a while for my husband to get used to the smokiness of the Jollof but as soon as we got acclimated to the flavor, oh my goodness... I can finally understand why they ran out of this darn Jollof rice the last time we came. The Jollof rice is the star of the dish! Granted our chicken and salmon was good, but the Jollof rice takes the podium here. The rice is perfectly cooked and my mouth is still having a flavor party. We would definitely be taking family and friends to this spot!

The vibe was nice. You must make a reservation! This is what I enjoyed: Side of Lamb chops: 10/10 tender, meaty, nice smoky and sweet flavor, well seasoned. Side of Mac and cheese: 6/10 a bit dry, needs a bit more seasoning, if both of these things were not an issue it would be perfect. Oxtails and jollof rice: 10/10 oxtails were full of flavor and enjoyable. They could have been a bit more tender. Overall the flavor carried it to a perfect 10. The rice is seasoned and a bit smokey and cooked to the perfect doneness. Table bread: 9/10 puff puff style bread. They were fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Brought out first and provided with every meal. It had a sweet seasoning mix on it. The mix to me was more for after dinner instead of right before the meal. Dusse mimosa: 10/10 nice and stout. I prefer Dusse over Hennessy which is what was on the menu. Jerk chicken: 10/10 flavorful wings. Jerk seasoning was there and not too spicy. Cooked just right and not dry. Collard greens: 6/10 savory flavor. I am a collard greens specialist and I prefer a sweet and hot profile. Although these are just savory they were cooked to the correct tenderness. Candied yams: 10/10 get blend of cinnamon and sweet flavor. Cooked perfectly.

For an appetizer, I started with the oxtail spring roll. I will say it leaned more toward a pot roast flavor because of all the cabbage and carrots inside. It didn't quite taste like oxtail or have much of the Jamaican flavor I was expecting, aside from the little bit of gravy served with it. For our meals, my friend ordered the Poundo Fufu with Egusi Soup and Beef, and I got the Jollof Rice with Stew Beef. The jollof rice was definitely some of the best I've had, really flavorful and the meat was tender and well done. The owner, Will, was very friendly and gave us some great recommendations for other dishes to try next time. If I'm ever back in Dallas, I would definitely stop by again.

When we first got in, it was fairly busy, I thought it was a sit down restaurant, not takeout. No worries we can just take our food to go (we drove here from Addison). It was about 2:30 when we ordered. The prices seemed a bit high ($30 for a small sized entree with no sides). But that's fine, nobody forced us to dine here. My friend and I ordered a ram suya and a goat suya and my other friend ordered a beef suya and a wrap. We go and wait on the couch. It was quite hot and we started to sweat, waiting for our food. 25 minutes passed and we see other people receiving their food, no worries, I understand some dishes take longer than others to come out. However after 45 minutes we were getting fed up. Mind you my friend and I were the only asians in the store (the other friend was Nigerian), and seeing people who ordered way ahead of us get their food and leaving, it was quite agitating. Finally my friend (Nigerian friend) gets one of his dishes, but that's it. Finally after another 2-3 minutes, the cashier comes to us and tells my friend (the Nigerian one) that they ran out of an ingredient and would give it to him for free without the missing ingredient and he agreed but she completely ignores me and my other friend (both asian). The three of us get pretty upset at this point and I tell my friend to ask them how longer it will be. He goes and asks her and she says one of the dishes (goat suya) is ready but the other one was an ADDITIONAL 10-15 minutes... she offered a small sample of the beef suya to us three to share while we waited (mind you this is now 50 minutes) We decided to get a refund for the other dish and just take the one that's ready and leave. Incredibly rude and horrendous service! At least if yall are taking a bit longer, let me know, and if yall are out of an ingredient, please say that. Also, why were my friend and I (the asian ones) completely ignored while all of the other patrons at least were offered a refund or notified of shortages of ingredients. Even my Nigerian friend who was clearly with us was notified but I was completely ignored. Not gonna imply anything but actions speak louder than words. Finally when we got back home, the meat seemed low quality, about 75% of it was vegetables. The flavor was delicious but not $30 worth and definitely not with the service they offer. Maybe they were having a bad day, but I will never come back here again and would advise others not to patron this business either.
