I love Ethiopian food and have enjoyed this fine African cuisine in 30 restaurants, across the U.S.A. Merkato Cafe is my new favorite restaurant because of their delicious meat and fresh vegetables cooked in traditional style. Plus, this is the most friendly, comfortable, homey place for a casual meal or coffee. The prices are a bargain especially when sharing a platter of food. What a nice surprise..... THE WARM HEART OF ETHIOPIA LIVES IN MURPHY, TEXAS !!! Try it. You'll like it !

Outstanding food in every aspect. Ms. Fe (owner & cook), knows the meaning of, "Service & Quality" of food. Price per Plate is cheaper than all the traditional Ethiopian restaurants in the area. My entire family of five ate to our heart's content for about 50% less than at Q of Sheba, or similar restaurants. The BYOB options makes it even more attractive. THANK YOU Ms. FE FOR A VALENTINE DAY's FEAST & FOR YOUR HOSPITALITY. WE LOOK FORWARD TO RETURNING SOON!!

I cannot believe this place is been here since 2011, and I didn't even know! The food is excellent and they seem to be doing a pretty fast carry out business. You can also buy Injera or lentils to take home and cook yourself. My husband got the Tips saucy and I had the vegetarian sampler. We ate in the restaurantwhich has a small dining area. Highly recommend trying it! The quality is as good as other Ethiopian restaurants we have been to in the area but the prices are much lower. Next time we will carry out.

Great find for really really good Kitfo...perhaps even better than the Big D hot spots for kitfo...and there are several. Star Bukri is a strong contender but this new find may snatch their crown! Very pleased with their kitfo...and I have had kitfo all over this country, from Red Sea in Adams Morgan/DC to Abyssinia in Phoenix to peoples homes. This is some Grade A kitfo!

Incredible food in a very cool space; modern decor combined with old and new Ethiopian art. the aromas of the cooking food were heavenly and the food was even better. I can't believe it's taken me so long to come but I will definitely be back. Also, the portions were generous and I went home stuffed, with leftovers. If you're thinking to check this place out, don't hesitate any longer. I just wish we had gone sooner! Delicious delicious food and great service. I Will return soon.

Showed up to try this new Ethiopian place. I was told they are "out of food." What? How can they stay in business?

I wish they would ADD chicken tibs to their menu, tired of driving to other restaurants in Dallas.

Blue Fig International Market - Shawarma Wrap

When I'm traveling and don't have the comforts of my grocery stores and restaurants nearby, my go…read moreto is Yelp. I use Yelp for everything to find what the locals are talking about. I was craving for healthy Middle Eastern goodies and Blue Fig came up on Yelp. We ventured to this store located in a sparse shopping center in the middle of beautiful homes. What we found... Ample parking Clean interior and for its small space it certainly carries many essential items: Home made flat bread - a must! It's baked on the old stone round ovens. I found rose water used for cooking in savory dishes and even in the sweets I bake. A tip for you ladies, the rose water in Middle Eastern markets are well priced and I use it as a toner for my face. I found some frozen Indian Roti in the frozen section amongst many other international goodies. Also, my favorite Turkish cheese or Lebanese cheese Labneh was priced well. Also got a can of garbanzo beans to make home made hummus. Definitely a must to go here if you are in the area. All the prices were reasonable. Why 4 star and not 5. There was only one cashier open and she was talking to another worker as the lines started to get longer. As for service you will have to look for it and ask questions. Overall a good first time experience and got all the necessary items we needed. I almost forgot, they have a small fresh fruits and vegetables section. Enjoy!

Very disappointing experience -- I will not be returning…read more I have been shopping at Blue Fig International Market for the past few months, but after my experience on 5/23/2026, I no longer feel comfortable supporting this business. About a week prior, I purchased two bags of basmati rice from this store by mistake. When I returned a week later to shop again, I brought the unopened rice back with me hoping to exchange it for the correct item. Unfortunately, the store refused to assist because I did not have the receipt. I understand stores have return policies, but in today's world, many customers do not keep paper receipts, and most businesses can look up purchases using the credit card used. I was told they could not do that unless the owner was present, which made the return process feel disorganized and not customer-friendly. What bothered me even more was the way the situation was handled. The store representative called the owner and spoke in Arabic, not realizing that I understood the conversation. From what I heard, they appeared unsure whether the rice came from their store and seemed concerned about theft, even though I explained that I was a regular customer and was simply trying to correct an honest mistake. I also felt uncomfortable because it appeared the employee may have taken a photo of me while speaking with the owner, without asking for my permission. Overall, the experience left me feeling disrespected and mistrusted as a customer. A simple exchange could have been handled professionally, but instead it turned into an uncomfortable and disappointing interaction. Based on this experience, I personally will be taking my business elsewhere and would encourage others to consider shopping at a market with clearer policies, better customer service, and more respectful treatment of customers.

It's a decent sized grocery store that sells Halal meats, veggies, fresh baked goods, spices, and frozen items. Aesthetically it looks very modern. There is plenty of parking in the front and in the back with entrances at both spots. I ended up getting some prepared kofta kabobs and they tasted amazing after cooking it over the charcoal grill. All the workers were very kind too. The cashier lady gave me a piece of her fresh baked bread filled with dates in it. Usually I don't like sweet bread, but it was great and people who love sweeter breads would absolutely adore it. The cashier lady even gave me 15% off my entire bill. Not sure if it's a promotion going on or what, but I was blown away by the customer service and generosity. Usually I drive a bit further away to get my pita bread, but this grocery store is much closer so I will probably stop by here from now on just to get pita bread if anything. The veggies and cheeses look great and I'll probably pick some up the next time I'm there too. The grocery store is located between the Catholic Church next door and Haraz Coffee House. You can't miss it! Interestingly I went to the restroom and noticed that there's a wand connected to the toilet and I think you can use it to wash your butt if you need to do number 2 I didn't try to use it because I only took a piss, but I have never seen anything like that before in a public place.
