Bowen eye care is an excellent group. I've been going to them for over 20 years and have No plans to change any time soon.

Store was significantly understaffed. Waited five minutes to even be greeted and was told I would be helped when the worker with done with her current customer. When that customer was done a customer had come out from an eye appointment and they helped her next. Waited a total of 20 minutes. A new employee came in and immediately helped a person that came in after me. When she was done with that person another person came through the door and asked about a loose screw and was helped immediately. Neither of the two people that new I had been waiting almost 30 minutes said anything. I got up and left Will continue to use America's Best but not this location. Service was horrific and it was bad the last time

Folks were nice enough, but their red tape and administrative systems could use some improvement. I…read morefilled out all of the paperwork that was emailed to me. I get there, and they "didn't get it." Not a huge deal, as I'm a pretty basic customer (no cataracts, glaucoma, or other major eye situations). After that, it got..."interesting." Everyone in front of me that got called into the office had about 3-5 children with them. And these kiddos were ALL getting exams, along with their guardian. Still, that's fine, I get it--going back to school sales, and wanting your little ones to see properly is cool and all. Here is my complaint: fix your scheduling software. Or train your scheduling staff to factor in adults who bring a million children with them. My appointment was for 10:40, and after almost two hours, I gave up and left. If you can't see me at 10:40, DON'T SCHEDULE ME AT 10:40. Look at the books and see that "oh, Mr. so and so is bringing his four kids with him, so Mr. Dave S (me) should probably have a noon or later appointment." I'm not super mad, but disappointed. I was looking forward to saving some money by going with them. Their frame selection was good, I'll give 'em that. Wish I could have bought some, but I apparently went on DayCare Center Day.

We are a multigenerational household, so scheduling appointments can be tricky. I needed a very…read morespecific time, and even though they normally don't accommodate that (because of the gap it creates in their schedule), they still made it work for us -- and I'm so grateful they did. From the moment we walked in, the entire staff was professional, patient, and incredibly kind. My mom has dementia, and one of the team members immediately sat with her so she felt safe and calm. They took my parents back first, and when my mom needed extra help, multiple staff members stepped in without hesitation. They treated her with dignity and genuine respect. After my mom finished, another staff member stayed with her again so I could complete my own appointment. They truly went above and beyond. As a full‑time caregiver, that kind of support means everything. If you have a senior loved one or need a place that understands compassion and caregiving, this is the place to go.

I felt so cared for and love how Dr Andrew Hustava did my exam and never once did I feel rushed. He listened to all my concerns and just took his time with me and getting to know me. I had a concern the next day and needed to get in asap. I called and made an appointment for later that day but Tammy the owner called me and had me in the office within 10mins!! I was in and out and my issue was solved and taken care of. What service!!! I will be a forever patient now!! What an amazing team!!

My wife and I WERE patients of Dr Bret Wilkin for the last 10 years until this week. We are leaving…read morebecause they refuse to take our new insurance. Naturally they claim several reasons for this decision basically that we "are not in their network"! Obviously that is open to interpretation. We are covered by Baylor Scott & White Advantage Senior Care because we are in our 70s and on Social Security Medicare Medicade. The first 9 years we had commercial insurance thru our employers. Last year we did not have insurance yet due to a waiting period. I went to Wilkin and had to pay cash because I am a diabetic and I had to have my diabetic eye exam for my regular doctor. I paid them $125 for the routine exam and also $40 for the OPTIMAT test that is for Diabetics. Wilkin changed insurance plans 2-3 times on us during our time there. on 2 occasions they stopped taking our insurance and luckily we were able to switch to our OTHER employer plan, just to get an appointment. We dont get eye exams just to see if we need glasses - I have to have the annual exam for my diabetes! yesterday we confirmed that our plan WAS ACCEPTABLE at any optometrist office IN OR OUT OF NETWORK! The plan documents we have states that in writing! We have now spoken to several people with Baylor Scott and White and they state that it SHOULD HAVE read that it was designed for in network doctors and the paperwork needed to be changed??? I personally spoke to a supervisor and then a Manager at BS&W offices and explained that they were required to pay any doctor until the new wording was in place - LEGALLY! I added that if they did not assist us that we could file a claim with the DOI (Department of Insurance) in Austin, and a second one with Social Security who governs these plans. I was quickly told that would NOT be necessary and they would honor our claim for my exam with any optometrist until the plan is ratified and reissued in probably 30 days. I did tell them that DAVID at Wilkins office stated they had NO WAY to file a claim because they were not in network??? The manager stated all they had to do was contact their claims division and they would give them the billing info and their address. They admitted this was a unique situation but THEY WOULD PAY THEIR CLAIM! We only spoke to David who claims he is over insurance. I did request to speak to Dr Bret Wilkins but was denied access! I did make a final offer to David after asking again to speak with the Doctor at his time and was not able to speak with Mr Bret. I had the utmost respect for Dr Bret over the last 10 years but refusing to even talk to me was not acceptable. David was very aloof during a 30 minute call with him and my wife and didn't seem to care we needed their services. All he kept saying was were sorry but we can't see you. As a last resort we made an offer to him. I told him I would be happy to give him my bank card information and if our claim was denied for ANY REASON I would give them written permission to charge my bank card for the full amount immediately! All we asked was a copy of the denial so we could go against BS&W with the DOI in Austin and with the Social Security Admin in Washington! David just said again "Sorry we have no way to file on your insurance" which is NOT CORRECT! As I stated before we found David very poor at understanding and customer relations. I remember him well because every time we were examined the Doctor sends you to David to pay and then listen to his SALES PITCHES TO GET YOU TO BUY GLASSES FROM THEM! I had to tell him around year 4 or 5 that we would never get glasses there because they were anywhere from 20% to 40% higher that other retailers on similar style glasses. After that time we never got the hard sell after our appointment. ** Last note: one of the supervisors at BS&W spoke to us on the condition of anonymity. He told my wife and I that they researched Dr Wilkins office site and found that they DO NOT ACCEPT ANY Senior Advantage Plans thru ANY company??? Seniors take notice you need to see if you are out in the cold like we are! We have to wonder why that is the case?? Maybe that is why in 10 years we never saw any seniors in the practice when we were there. We started there because our daughter Wendy Tabraham and her family were patients there. They moved out of state when we signed on at Wilkins! They are getting ready to move back to Texas in our area from Colorado. when we told them about all this Wendy was shocked and told us they would definately would not return to Wilkins either! Sad situation, but we were asked by the Manager at BS&W would we go back to Wilkins if they spoke to the Doctor? We both agreed that we still like Dr Wilkins but having to deal with David in their office is a deal breaker for us.
