I love Bourbon St. Grill. I've been a fan for years.
My go-to location used to be at Hillcrest Mall, in the food court. This food court went through renovations several years ago and Bourbon St. Grill never returned.
Bummer. It's likely one reason why you don't see me frequent this mall often.
I was recently at Vaughan Mills. My first visit, I spotted this Bourbon St. Grill at the food court and made note of it. Two Tuesdays ago, I was back at this mall. I decided to grab takeout from this food stall and bring it home to enjoy for dinner.
What is special about this location is the variety of proteins. I have never seen mounds of chicken, shrimp, and more. Narrowing it down to one was tough.
My usual order is combo 2. It consists of rice as the base, one protein, and two sides. I went with my usual, which is bourbon chicken, corn, garlic green beans, and fried rice.
Customers in front of me were nice. They let me order first as they were still deciding what to get. The woman behind the counter was competent, but not the friendliest person. I got the impression that she wasn't having a good day.
She didn't ask me if I wanted anything else after I had placed my combo 2 order, like a drink or something else off the menu. It was basically the total that I got from here and how I'd like to pay. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was good.
She signalled that my food was ready with her hand. No verbal communication. It was weird.
I was happy carrying my food to my car and placing it in an insulated bag. I drove home in heavy traffic on a Tuesday night at roughly 7 pm.
I got home and chowed down. My meal was yummy.
The bourbon chicken was tender and flavourful. I love corn and green beans as sides. They were delicious and perfectly cooked. The green beans had garlic and strands of carrot. The latter was different, but I didn't mind getting a bonus vegetable of sorts.
My base was fried rice. I got a generous amount. It was perfect.
It's a solid location for good eats. I hope that staff are more cheerful when I return in future.
