    Fish tacos and fries
    Hadia G.

Alrighty so we drove to this spot for the view and it definitely didn't disappoint. Parking is easy and there is a charm of the little town! Now food was quiet a disappointment ! We got calamari and caesar salad to start with. Salad was average, you have to cut the lettuce urself! The calamari we couldn't eat , the quality, the sauce was not to our liking. Mains took forever to arrive . My husband got fish tacos ( he ordered 3 got 2) then they rushed a 3rd one. Came with aside of fries that tasted like old oil. I got the fish with angel hair pasta. Fish was bland but fine now the pasta was soaked in oil which made the dish hard to finish. So sad for this bad experience because seriously the patio and the views are a charm! Hence the 3 stars!

The setting is very nice though.

Situated in an old mill Joes keeps a rustic feel adding to its charm. The menu which is somewhat limited focusing on Pinsa (like a pizza) for which they appear to use authentic Italian ingredients. The Joe theme is carried over to the pinsa menu names. I had the Joe Theisman, a goat cheese pesto pinsa. Very well prepared. We also ordered a beet and feta salad with chicken that was fresh and quite good. Service was very attentive, prices fair.

If you sit outside, perched on the side of the mill, you have a wonderful view of the river and falls that run through Almonte. It is however a bit loud at times, impacting conversation slightly. Food and service were both solid. My Joe Walsh pizza was perfectly prepared and tasty. My meal partners all enjoyed their choices as well. It was a bit too much for me to finish! The crust was fabulous. It is a limited menu: beer, wine, non alcoholic drinks, and anti-pasta, pasta, salads and the Pinsa Romana we had, heralded as the new pizza. This is not a place for gluten free eaters! Definitely worth a visit for atmosphere along with a glass of wine and pizza.

Pasta Volare - Tortelloni quattro fromaggio with Genovese pistachio pesto and focaccia with herb butter

They change their menu weekly, every Sunday, which includes long pasta, short pasta, filled pasta, sauces, focaccia, and a meal kit with a mix of everything. This week's menu included: - Long pasta: Tagliatelle or pappardelle - Short pasta: Cavatelli or fusilli - Filled pasta: Scarpinocc di Taleggio e fungi (Taleggio cheese and mushroom) or tortellini quattro fromaggio (four cheese) - Sauces: Pomodoro (tomato based), Cornish hen ragu (tomato based), seasonal mushroom (cream based), Genovese pistachio pesto, or herb butter - Focaccia: Large or small - Tutti tipi di pasta: Kit including pappardelle, fusilli, scarpinocc, tortellini, seasonal mushroom sauce, Cornish hen rage, Genovese pistachio pesto, herb butter, and large focaccia The long and short pastas are 150 grams per portion and $7 each, the scarpinocc and tortelloni come in a pack of 12 and are $15 each, and each order of sauce is for two portions, varying prices between $5 and $15. The small focaccia is $5 and the large is $12. They take orders Sunday to Wednesday for Thursday to Saturday delivery or pickup. Pickup is free in Barrhaven after 3pm and delivery is $5 within a 10km radius from 3-5pm. They also advised that the fresh pasta is best enjoyed the day of order or the next day, and the filled pasta comes freshly frozen and can be kept up to two months in freezer. I have a real soft spot for fresh pasta, so knowing it was homemade locally and two types of pastas I had never tried before, and just being gluttonous and greedy ol' me, I ordered tagliatelle, cavatelli, scarpinocc, and tortelloni pastas, pomodoro, mushroom, pesto, and herb butter sauces, and a small focaccia. I basically customized my own kit and it came out to $89, a dollar cheaper than the tutti tipi di pasta one they had already put together. It was all just for me, not gonna lie. I ordered earlier in the week through a private message on their Instagram and they responded right away. They asked if I had any allergies, what my phone number was, and gave me the total price and e-mail address to send the e-transfer. I originally thought I would have it delivered since the charge was so cheap, but they sent me the address and I ended up picking it up instead. I picked it up and it came in two paper bags (with sweet thank you messages!), one for the cardboard boxes of pasta and the other for the plastic containers of sauces and the bread. There was also a little message on one of the bags to just put the pasta in the freezer and cook from frozen. It was super quick to pick up and I was really excited to get home. It was hard to decide which pasta to each for dinner tonight with which sauce, but I ended up going with the four cheese tortelloni and pesto. They also come with an instruction sheet on how to cook the pasta and incorporate the sauces, which I found very helpful. The tortelloni were made perfectly, just a little tangy, and not overly stuffed or heavy, perfect portion. The pistachio pesto was a touch bitter, also perfect and I licked the spoon multiple times before even mixing it with the pasta. I decided to try the focaccia just on its own and it was soft and moist with some salt. I warmed it up slightly in the toaster oven and used some of the herbed butter (which came in a huge, very generous portion). It was all exactly what I wanted, exactly what I expected, and so incredibly satisfying. Can't wait to try the other pastas and sauces (and finish all the focaccia)!

You really can't miss the Sobey's so you should be able to find this place! We were sat very quickly and our waitress was like superwoman! She took our order, brought our drinks and then took our orders all within minutes of arriving. After she brought our orders to the back she came back with some fresh baked bread! The bread was good and she brought the classic north american olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip to our table. We got through the bread pretty quickly and had some great conversation before our food arrived. Everything smelled great, I ordered the Poco Pazzo combination which had cannelloni, chicken and a salad. I cut into the cannelloni first and had a taste. It was alright. The chicken was up next! I liked the chicken, it was cooked perfectly and the sauce was tasty. The salad on the side was alright as well. I feel the meal was ok...I think spending some good time in Italy the last few months let me try some fantastic food over there and changed my bar on Italian food. The meal was definitely decent and will be my standard for Italian food in Ottawa. I think it was one of the better Italian meals I've had in town but not as good as some of the other Italian restaurants I've tried in Canada and definitely not in the same class as some of the places in Italy. My combo for lunch was around $17 and the portions were average size. I thought it was a great portion size for lunch. i'll be back next time I have a craving for Italian and will try something new.
