Grilled Brie with Apples & Fig Jam
Justin C.

I was craving clam chowder and some delicious sandwiches on a weeknight. Ordered a bread bowl to go along with a BLAT sandwich and fig, brie, apple sandwich. The clam chowder hit the spot, this is such a nostalgic place for me! The BLAT was similarly fresh, crispy, and flavorful. The fig sandwich was a nice "dessert" for me with the perfect mix of sweetness and savory. Also ordered a sourdough loaf to go. Love that they slice it for you!

I was craving a nice bowl of clam chowder and salad. More specifically I was craving Boudin's Asian Chicken salad. I wanted a salad so I ordered a salad. But my buddy wanted a melt, but they were out of all the ingredients. Literally all the ingredients for a short rib melt. How does that even happen? He ended up with a salad, like me... Other places this place fell short. Soda station was out of carbonation. Utensil and condiment station was not stocked. And we got metal knives with plastic spoons and forks for dine-in. This place reminds me of a store selling out of everything like they're on a close-out clearance. The food also didn't sit well with... I've been to a few Boudin here and up in the SF area. This shop ranks the lowest amongst all the Boudin shop I've been to.

Outstanding sourdough! We were so happy with the food. The inside was pretty nice as well and staff were friendly. I'm looking forward to returning. Pros: * Outstanding food; recommend the Pick a pair with clam Chowder. If you have the room, go for the sourdough bread bowl. * Clean inside * Friend service Cons: * N/A Extra: * Plenty of parking * Serve Coke products * Download the app for rewards

Boudin's is known for their bread, especially sourdough. They are a chain bakery-restaurant and have been around for a while. Both the wifey and I love sourdough. Their sandwiches, salads, and soups are always so good and fresh. Most recently, I tried their Thanksgiving Turkey Melt which is seasonal. It's a hot sandwich that is made with turkey, bacon, Swiss cheese, cranberry Dijon, on a rustic stuffing bread. I was blown away by how good it was. It was hot, crisp, turkey was moist, and bacon was thick (and they didn't skimp on it). It was a nice mixture of savory and sweet... the cranberry Dijon was delicious! I just wish the sandwich wasn't seasonal... it should be on their permanent menu. One of my favorite things to order here is the clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. It is especially good on cold days. Another favorite here is "The Great" (their signature grilled cheese) with Bacon. It lives up to it's name! It has plenty of thick Applewood smoked bacon. They use Havarti & sharp cheddar cheese that is melted perfectly on Parmesan crusted sourdough! Nice toasted crunchiness with delicious melted cheese and crisp bacon which each bite. Yum! Boudin's is easy to find. On the corner of Balboa Ave and Genesee in the same shopping center as Vons, CVS, Kohl's, and 85 Degrees Bakery. There is plenty of parking. This Boudin's is consistently clean. They bus the tables here, so they always wipe down the tables and seats. Service has also been consistently good here. They are friendly and answer questions about anything on the menu. I forgot how good Boudin's can be! We are fans! 4 / 5: Food 4 / 5: Cleanliness 4 / 5: Service 4 / 5: Overall

Good spot for a quick meal and super convenient in the same lot if you're using the Supercharger. Order at the kiosk and grab a number by it or you can wait to order with a staff. Plenty of seating some booth seating available too. Recommend the clam chowder and beef chili in sourdough bread bowl.

Sourdough French Dip

Food: pick 2 (tuna salad sandwich with Asian salad, no chicken), pick 2 (tuna salad sandwich with tomato bisque soup), French dip sandwich. Everything was delicious. We also bought a sourdough loaf to go (they will slice it for you.) Service: fast and friendly. We love coming here when in town. I wish there was a location in Henderson NV!

This place rocks! First of all there's tons of parking, and lots of seating and tables. If you are a sourdough lover like me you'll love this place. I had the 1/2 salad 1/2 clam chowder in a bread bowl. Ms Badpenny wore here SF Fortyniners sweater which was a huge hit. The prices are decent and the food portions were great.

Kim ..

Great value! You get two sandwiches and two cookies and two soups and two bread bowls for $30. You got fresh bread and everything tastes wonderful!

Half Pastrami melt and clam chowder

Fashion Valley Boudin location closed and I wasn't impressed with the food they had since it wasn't close to the San Francisco restaurant. So I haven't tried Boudin for years for fear of being disappointed. The Claremont location however did not disappoint me. They have good sandwiches and seems to have the best calm chowder in San Diego. The calm chunks are small - perfect since I don't like biting into a large chewy calms. Also it doesn't have that overly fishy flavor. The sourdough bread is also great here. Other places seem to have hard as a rock outer shell of the sourdough bread. Glad that we have a Boudin still around in San Diego.

Cookie was fresh and taste like mamas home baked sugar cookies right out the oven Very quick service friendly staff and very helpful

They don't even bother to crumble the cheese

Pretty disappointing for a Boudin. Food took FOREVER, I think they just decided to forget about our order. When they finally delivered our food, I asked what took so long (30 minutes), and the guy said, "I guess the kitchen didn't feel like cooking it." Also, the bathrooms are disgusting. I don't know how their bathrooms pass with the food safety inspectors, there is ground in time and what look like rodent droppings in the corner of the men's room. Maybe the owner's cousin is the health inspector because I don't now how this place passes.

Clam Chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. Tasty! Sourdough is the best!

Tried a mix of savory and sweet: the Curry Pan was good but didn't totally wow me, while the chocolate, strawberry ribbon, and matcha croissants were all really solid -- especially because they weren't overly sweet. The surprise favorite was the caviar bread: salty, fishy, briny topping on crusty bread that somehow just worked SO well. We also split a croque monsieur which was warm, cheesy, and perfect to balance out all the pastries. I wish they had real cutlery (vs only plastic disposables) for dine in customers. Our family shared all these goodies and a plastic knife was no match for some of them. Overall, really good quality pastries and breads, worth the early lineup. I'd definitely come back to try the sandos (served started 11:30)

For example, some other specialty bakeries/shops are charging similar prices for cakes and cheesecakes that are much simpler. In comparison, Extraordinary Dessert cakes take 3-4 days to make, have 6-8 alternating layers, and are typically adorned with edible gold and/or flowers. The key is to find which items you like and which are okay to pass on next time. What we ried this time: -Match Misu Cake (7/10): ricotta cake layers soaked in matcha and layered with marscapone whipped cream. This one was pretty good and ranks in my middle to high range. I only wish there was more matcha flavor (maybe if you dine in and get the sauce, this would help) or the matcha was paired with another flavor ... either go fruity (maybe a raspberry sauce, strawberry pieces, white peach pieces, or like a peach oolong cream layer) or go chocolately/coffee (maybe had some crushed up chocolate covered espresso beans). My go to's: -Ivoire Royale (10/10) - my ultimate favorite still. If you like light desserts, white chocolate, berries, and moist vanilla cake, thus one is for you. Classy and unpretentious -Shangrila (10/10) - my other favorite and will make you feel like a princess with all the pink chocolate curls. A little bit adventurous and innocently elegant. Ones to skip: -Au Chocolate / La Bete Noire / Dame Chocolate - get the Viking instead. That's my favorite of all their chocolate cakes -Lemon ricotta - get the Passionfruit Ricotta instead -Torta misu - the matcha misu is better. The tortilla misuse made me want a regular piece of tirmaisu than a cake version -Coconut cream - not bad, not amazing though

We politely asked if it would be possible to purchase a small cup of fruit , even just a couple strawberries cut up, because one child in our group cannot have sweets due to very strict dietary restrictions . Instead of simply saying they were unable to accommodate the request or offering another option, we were told to "go somewhere else," despite already spending the amount we did . The complete lack of professionalism and basic customer service was honestly shocking. It's disappointing to be treated that way at a place we have supported so consistently. Flour Atelier is a small bakery right next to the hovering Mitsuwa. They carry two refrigerated sections' worth of original treats and pastries, many with Asian flavors such as their ube leche flan and calamansi cheesecake. I'm a gluten free girly nowadays, but when I could eat their desserts I did love their cheesecake: a balance of cream-to-crust is important to me. And those flavors? Standout. Hard to find many other places. They also have tea and coffee, and my husband and I LOVE their hojicha latte, which boasts a nice earthy-to-sweet ratio. If you want a grounded flavor without getting another coffee, try the hojicha latte! The store itself is quite small, selling sweet treats, drinks, and even flowers through a collaboration with a florist. They have about 4 tables outside -- recommended for small parties, unless you come when it's empty with a group. BIG TIP: Bring your mother or mother-in-law here to impress -- that is, if she likes cute, sweet treats and a tea party vibe! This is just below the price for an Extraordinary Desserts cake slice, which is not only bigger and more complex, but also made fresh. We noticed the crepe cake slice we got had that dusting of ice sparkles, indicating it was frozen and defrosting, and additionally, as it defrosted, the more it started leaning. Lines are always better with a friend and even though we all arrived before opening there was still a healthy line. I was really excited, to finally get to check them out, I saw on their socials that a new chef had taken residency and that they came with some Filipino flair. As a fellow Filipino I definitely wanted to support. I ended up ordering a lumpia roll, ube butter ensaymada, a halo halo tart and a egg sando sandwich along with an iced matcha with honey, with tip my total was $48, which isn't horrible considering these are meant to be higher quality pastries. My girlfriends and I found a table and decided we would share, I shared my egg sando sandwich and the lumpia roll, while they shared their ube butter ensaymada and the turon kouign amann. My matcha, was a horrible, it was a muddy green and really lacked any matcha flavor, my friend didn't like her matcha either and she had the miso caramel matcha. I didn't even finish my matcha and I can really take one down. We joked about how we should have opted for the orange juice instead. Now for the pastries, I was really underwhelmed by them, the ensaymada was just fine, I honestly cannot remember the taste of it, it lacked something. The egg sando sandwich, the filling was plentiful and flavorful BUT the bread was dry, was that potato bread? The texture was off for me and I ended up just scooping out the filling and eating it like that. Where the sando had a good amount of filling the lumpia roll lacked it, it was so sparse I figured it would be more like a sausage roll so I was taken aback by how little there was in it. Flavors were fine, the pastry was buttery but I just wanted a little more. The one pastry we agreed was better than the rest was the turon kouign amann, the crunchy bits of sugar was so reminiscent of turon but the filling, for me was like uncooked banana bread batter, that threw me off entirely. It was better, but not the filling. So overall, I would say it was okay, I guess for the costs it just didn't meet my expectations.
