Wanted a quick sandwich after a trip to the doctor, and not gonna lie, but the prospect of a gas station sandwich (in light of the positive yelp reviews, of course) intrigued me. I ended up pulling the trigger out of sheer curiosity, and frankly, I'm very happy I did. No, this isn't the best sandwich you'll ever get, but it's definitely better than subway/a generic sandwich place. Pierre is the manager of the gas station (from what I can tell) who loves to make sandwiches. He legitimately wants to make you a sandwich that you'll like, and it shows. In my opinion, there are 2 things that separate his sandwiches from any other generic sandwich shop: 1) the house-made oil and vinegar and 2) his homemade garlic spread. He makes the oil and vinegar mixture in house and adds some spices that legitimately compliment the sandwich well (I know it sounds outlandish, but trust me). After reading some reviews about the garlic spread, I asked if he had it, and he pulled a pyrex glass tupperware out of the fridge (he said he makes it with his vitamix). At that point, I knew it was going to be good lol. The oil and vinegar and garlic spread separate his sandwiches from any other generic shop. Like the other reviews say, if you're looking at the menu and can't decide what to order, tell him to make you something good and you'll definitely enjoy it! Ok, I would have never just stopped here but I was getting a carwash next door and I cruised over for a sandwich fingers crossed. So, the sandwich was AMAZING. Wow!! I asked the manager, Pierre, to make me something he thought was good- surprise me..holy moly was this a great surprise. He made me some kind of chicken sandwich with veggies and this DELICIOUS garlic paste sauce. The whole time he was super friendly. As I was in there, a bunch of customers came through and he was quick and sensed urgency with everyone. I wouldn't have expected such great service. Oh man - I'm so glad I stopped in here today! I've seen the signs for this deli for years but never made a point to stop in. Decided to finally try it today in between running errands nearby. Pierre immediately greeted me with a warm smile and a hearty hello. He then proceeded to make me one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I ordered the London broil on white bread and he toasted it to perfection. The entire time he was making my order, we were chatting and he was telling me about the history of the deli. It seems so sadly rare nowadays that anyone is willing to chat with a stranger and so the talk was welcome and kind. I just ate my half of the sandwich in record time - I am debating if I truly want to share the rest! The bread was incredibly fresh and soft and the sandwich was made to perfection. I should also note that the entire sandwich was just around $8 and that is for a full sandwich for two people. The sandwiches here are bigger and of a much higher quality than Subway but the prices are just about the same. Honestly surprised to find a great deli inside a gas station. I was in search of a quick bite before the gym and this was the closest non fast food place in the area. I was only going to get some Gatorade and business owner convinced me to get a sandwich. I had a turkey on wheat roll filled with lots of vegs, and it only cost 8 plus change + a little bit extra for avocado. The sandwich was enough for 2 people. I go to this daily about 2 to 3 times a week I work next door so it is very convenient to get here and have lunch. I always go with the specials there are 350 a piece and there pretty damn good. Today I got the Tuesday special which is a turkey Italiano but I always like to add a Twist to it and I had a few Meatballs 2 the equation. I call it the Godfather or in Spanish I call it El Padrino. Friendly staff and speedy service but the sandwich was not that great. Got the Tuesday special which was a chicken bacon ranch sandwich for 6.99. This place is definitely a subway copy. I got the wheat bread and it was old and stale and tasted like it was on the verge of turning moldy. The chicken came in chunks in theses little portioned out paper trays and was microwaved in the tray first (just like subway) there is no possible way that the chicken was boars head like advertised because boars head does not make chunk chicken in little paper trays. The bacon was little precooked out of the box bacon (just like subway) they offer a variety add fixings and sauces to build your sandwich in these little trays behind the glass(just like subway) even as I Write this review while sitting in the parking lot I still have the old stale taste of the bread in my mouth. I definitely will not be trying anymore of there sandwiches. Two stars only because the owner and staff were good people. read more

Unbelievably good sandwiches! I was in the area, saw their sign, and thought, what the heck, I'm hungry....why not give it a try? I ordered the turkey italiano, panini-style. It was made to order, with the exact same options as Subway, except this place also has a panini toaster (!) Win! Perfectly assembled and toasted. It was so freakin good I ate the whole thing, even though originally I had planned on saving half for later. About the same price as a subway foot long: six dollars and something. I should have taken a picture of the sandwich but I was way too interested in eating it. I'll get a pic next time... I'll deff be back! Let me start by saying...Yelp brought me here. I was looking for a great new small deli to try out and because of the reviews I figured this was a cool posh new "Mega Deli" Due to the area, I was thinking it would be a cool new spot since there are so many here in Claremont that I haven't tried...so MAYBE my expectations were just too high. I pulled into the gas station parking lot, I should have known to lower my expectations right then and there...but I went in because of Yelp. I ordered my sandwich, and It's literally subway guys ... Same bread, same toppings... down to the lettuce, spinach, cheese...and even the containers. The signature black subway squares!! I added an extra star because the turkey was better quality (Boars Head they said) so extra star for that but everything else... Subway. EXCEPT the prices.. it was $5.50 for a 6 inch and $8-9 for a footlong (with avocado) I really actually liked the lady who made my sandwich!! She was great and for that another star! However, the lady at the gas station register which you have to pay for the sandwich at was less than spectacular. Reason being, I had ordered my sandwich and had been waiting to pay, and she helped a guy who walked in after me and after I had been waiting to pay. I literally had my credit card out and asked the price and then she told me and then a guy came in and cut me, grabbed two waters, and she helped him first. Either way, I just think this place should be accurately accounted for with reviews so FOODIES don't get misled. This is not your place to meet up and have a nice sandwich with your friends. I work within walking distance, and grabbing lunch at Mega Deli has very quickly become a staple of my work day. Think Subway, but with actually decent quality bread and meat. I've tried several different sandwiches there and have been continually impressed. Takeaways from my different trials: - The squaw bread is delicious. Probably my favorite bread there. - Add avocado! The price is worth it, and it adds so much to the composition of the sandwich flavors. - Ask about their homemade sauces. I've tried their garlic oil spread, and the spicy chipotle mayo. Both are excellent. - Get it toasted and/or grilled on their panini press. I used to get full sandwiches before trying a panini there, and now I get nothing else (except the occasional squaw bread sandwich, and even then I'll still ask for it to be grilled on the panini press). My current go-to is whole wheat, turkey, swiss, avocado, assorted veggies, and spicy chipotle mayo combined and then thrown on the panini press for a minute or two. At $6, I feel like I'm getting more than my money's worth. It's not just the food, the people that work behind the counter are also incredibly welcoming. They converse and joke with customers they know but still maintain professionalism when it comes to the service they are providing. Shout-out to Nancy, for being the best panini chef I know (in both English, and Spanish)! This establishment is located in a gas-station convenience store, and that may frighten some people away, but the quality of the food and the people that make and serve it are well worth the stop. read more
