Felt very uncomfortable because while we were in doing the bottle drop someone was going through the back of our pick up evidently looking for bottles. While we were inside, another person yelled out that someone had stolen their cart of bottles and when the guy was confronted by the person behind the counter, and he just walked out leaving the bottles. That was the worst experience of my life. I was there with my two friends today around 2 pm and we were all treated so badly. It was our first time there and these two ladies behind the counter yelling at us because they didn't like how we were trying to figure out How to use their system And then, to make matters worse we could all hear them complaining about us to the customers that were next in line that is the most rude thing you can do. The level of disrespect is insane. I haven't been to drop off my bottles in a white, and upon entering it was dirty, none of the machines worked, and was met with an incredible amount of disrespect and rudeness from an employee when I tried to grab a cart to load up bags of bottles I could not lift out of the car myself. The employee stopped me as I exited into the parking lot and said there are signs everywhere saying I couldn't remove the carts, but the signs only stated that they were for indoor customers. He then proceeded to quite rudely ask "how'd I get the bottles in the car then?," to which I responded that I had help loading them in. What is the point of the carts if I cannot use them to help transport them from my car to the indoor building where then I would be an "indoor customer." I understand that they get stolen and such but how is that my fault and then if that's the case and they are essentially pointless then they should remove them all together. Generally, the service is ok, as I'd expect. Just keep in mind they start shutting down and reducing services between 5-5:30 pm. Don't expect a hand count, nor have access to your account past 5! About half of the self serve counting machines were in-op, and when trying to get refund, there was no more coin, so expect being short changed. read more

It's the only place in town to redeem your cans if you need some quick cash to gas up or something cuz tomorrow's payday and you gotta be able to get to the bank - so they've kind of got it locked down. Go early and avoid the lines, sticky floors and broken machines. I gave it an extra star for the friendly parking lot attendants. They should get those people some uniforms or something. It's the only place in town, so we got an account and left a bag of bottles. Our bag had 26 beer bottles, all in perfect condition, and we were given credit for only 11. Wasn't sure what horrors to expect - prior recent Yelp reviews were not promising. Fortunately, the redemption center I found was the one Camille H describes in her review. Account setup is done using an ATM-like machine located to the left back as you enter. Takes about three minutes, whereupon it will spit out a card associated with your account. After registering, you'll probably want to get some bag stickers and the machine prompts you to consider that. Once that's done, mosey over to the Customer Service desk (which appears to be a bottle/can washing station as well - not sure what's up with that). There, you can purchase green plastic bags, which will be charged to your account. No cash/credit card necessary. To drop off bottles and cans, put them in one of the plastic bags, slap on a sticker where it says to and put the bag in the bin located to the back right as you walk in. There's a drop-off bin located outside, as well. To reap your hard-earned rewards for being a good citizen, you can either use another ATM-like machine located just to the right of the customer service desk, or better, use a kiosk at one of several participating stores and get a 20% bonus. The stores that participate in this bonanza are listed on a sign to the left of the machine. Currently, those would be Fred Meyer, Newport Market, Albertsons, Safeway, Food 4 Less and Ericksons Thriftway. The redemption center does a brisk business for those without accounts via a bank of self-serve machines into which you feed cans & bottles one at a time. Unless you're in need of immediate funds or otherwise don't want to sign up for an account (e.g., you're homeless), the plastic bag method seems far more attractive. If you take advantage of the 20% deal at the stores, that will pay for the bags. I'm a big fan of Planet Earth and if this arrangement is what it takes to get people to recycle, I'm all for it. read more

I'm happy to see this Redemption Center in Bend, centrally located, easy to get to. I've been lucky and have never had to stand in line for a machine nor have I had to deal with a machine on the fritz. The machines are actually pretty fast too & that's nice. So great to provide us with a sink to wash hands after depositing bottles. It's unfortunate that staff appears to do nothing to deter loitering outside the Redemption Center; It more often than not, feels a bit dicey. And it's frustrating that employees are NOT handling broken glass in the parking lot - I worry about my tires each time I visit - will I end up with a flat? What if somebody trips and falls & ends up cutting themselves? Come on folks, keep the parking lot free of broken glass as it IS a hazard. The Redemption Center itself is just filthy and smells horrid. Wipe down the machines & surfaces more often? Wipe down the helpful carts more often? Clean the floors more often? Better filtration system? Fresh air? The staff themselves are pleasant & helpful when approached by customers. TIP: I know there's a sink but wear gloves. I keep a box of disposable gloves in my trunk & they do come in handy. read more

I was pretty impressed with this recycling center. I didn't know anything about it, but finally decided to start taking cans and bottles to be recycled and found this is our local recycling center. You have to set-up an account to do your recycling and the guys running the counter were very thorough and patient because while it wasn't complicated, I just wasn't getting it. (I know, you're thinking how hard can it be?) You have a couple of options, wait in line to do self-service. There were quite a few people in line, but they had a lot of recycling machines, so it seemed to move fairly quickly. The other option is to purchase their green recycling bags and just put them through the drop. The money gets put on your card to be cashed out at a later time. I chose this option because we had a bunch of cans and bottles at home to bag up. The bags cost .20 and they charge .35 to process the bag. I'm fine with that. If you have any problems with recycling, the staff is there to assist. Meanwhile, yeah, the place doesn't smell great. It's a recycling center. And yes, there is a homeless population here and yes, they are recycling. It just is what it is. read more

Spent an hour waiting to return cans and bottles to be met by a line of people getting their tickets signed and told to come back later or in 24 hours. If I'd have known I would have went to Redmond. Total of 6 machines down including the cash dispensing machines. Come on now. We didn't get rid o f individual business redeeming our cans and bottles for this. So many homeless loitering. Just a bad few days. Most of the people redeeming their cans need the money. Even seen one little girl start crying about her $4.10 worth of saved cans. read more

Ugh. This place is the only recycling option in Bend and it is getting worse every time we go. Why is the bald white guy so angry all the time? Unpleasant attitude and literally THROWS the bags around on purpose to create noise. The machines here are quick and make getting in and out a breeze! -Update- I no longer go inside the building and hand feed bottles and cans. I signed up for the bottledrop service and purchased their green bags with identification stickers linked to my account. At 15 cents per green colored bag and 25 cents service fee per bag, I find it well worth the 40 cent fee to drop it off and not spend a few minutes inside hand feeding them. Now I wait to fill a bag and just drop it by with their convenient outside drop-door. No more stinky/sticky beer covered shoe soles for me :) read more

The only game in town and it keeps getting worse. Smelly, grimy place and the area around it is becoming a favored hangout for some sketchy homeless. Many machines broken inside, and it won't take a number of of the bottles I bring in even thought they say OR 10cents. If you are lucky one of the two payout machines will be working. People, that obviously do NOT do the math, recommend the bagged bottle drop. After you pay for the bags and gas to get there, you pretty much net zero, and certainly not worth going into what has become a bad place, to put it kindly. Today, while the CV-19 is still an issue, at 9:15am a line stretched around the outside of the building, no one wearing masks, no one social distancing. I passed through the parking lot and said that's it...I am not returning. My health is worth more than a couple bucks. I dumped the cans and bottles in my recycle bins at home. When this first opened it was awesome, lots better than redeeming at a grocery store.. But now, there are too many people taking hundreds of cans in at a time. There is supposed to be a limit but it's violated all day. I wish they could have a express check out, if you only have two three bags worth. Really gone downhill in the last year. First you have to get past the homeless in the parking lot & front door. I guess they are looking for somebody that doesn't want to deal with the bother. Find a cart. No carts because the trash and non returned bottles are overflowing onto the carts. Meh. Grab a cart from a patron that finished. At the machine I'm standing in bottle shards and spilled beer. Another meh. Finish and go to put the redemption onto my account. One machine down for the count and the other is being worked on for a minute. So go over to wash my hands....hand dryer broke. Wipe hands on pants. Put money on account and GTFO. I would not bring my kids here. Just a miserable experience. About as bad as the grocery store returns from years ago. I think I will just use the outside drop...after hours. This place is the nicest recycling facility I have ever seen. Oregon's bottle and can program is great. In most states cans have to go to a metal scrapyard and glasses go in the "recyling", which most workers will just throw in the trash truck(seen it happen more times than I can count). This place is great! There is an older lady who works there that is always very helpful and fun too! Those people work very hard in there and have to always clean up people's messes. It would run more smoothly if some people weren't such slobs. It could also use some air conditioning as during the summer months it's pretty intense in there, but all in all what a great service.
