We went to our first Ref Sox game this week and it was a good time. This was the first week of the season and they ended up losing but it was still a really good game. The stadium is really fun to be in and the fans create a really awesome atmosphere. Trying to buy tickets was difficult. We just wanted to buy day of tickets when we got to the stadium and while they have plenty of ticket booths around the stadium, only one actually sells tickets. This was annoying because you have to walk all the way around and near game time they closed down some of the roads near so you had to walk blocks around to get to the correct gate. They also had very little on field entertainment and relied on the organ player to play between every inning. Overall, it was still a fun game to be at!

I'm gonna preface this review by saying I wasn't a Red Sox fan until I married my Massachusetts sweetheart, but her love for the Sox is a lifelong thing which is kinda a common deal in MA. Her love of the Sox and the game are infectious and I've now been a serious fan for over four decades To be fair, I had no favorite baseball team before we met because I've always been a football guy. I played football in jr high & high school as well as track but the first few games I played in kid baseball I was crazy bored and walked away pretty quick, so that's my story. So let's talk some Red Sox and of course you can't talk Sox without talking Fenway Park, it is an awesome stadium and has been the Red Sox' home ballpark since 1912. I've been there many times over the years and being to bring my young son there and keep going back after he's all grown up is a wonderful priveledge and a plethora of memories. There were a lot of years cheering and rooting for our Sox to win the penant and maybe even the world series, oh so many years. How glorious was it after an 86 year drought to finally proclaim "We are the Champions of the World" once again in 2004?!?!? I made a point of being in Massachusetts for that series and let me tell ya' it was so crazy everywhere you went for that whole week leading up to the final game of the series, man just glorious. Regards to championships they won in 1903, 1912, 1915, 1916, 1918 and then crickets, I mean painfully quiet and mean ugly crickets until the aforementioned glorious year of 2004 and since have brought it home to Boston again in 2007, 2013 and 2018, woohoo! Note: The original American league was only formed in 1901 so they won five of the first fifteen World Series titles, not too shabby of a start. But the 86 game drought was often blamed on "The Curse of the Bambino" the superstition that was named after Babe Ruth, who was referred to as "The Bambino", and played for the Red Sox until he was sold to the New York Yankees in 1920. There's way to much to talk about that whole thing but I will share my favorite sports joke .... When a Masshole (person from Massachusetts) is asks who's their favorite baseball team they usually reply, "I have two favorites, the Red Sox and anybody who beats the Yankees"! There's so many memories but just sitting behind home plate (my favorite seats) and a clear view of that batter's box where Babe Ruth and Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski and Jim Rice swing there bats is something special and I have really enjoyed my Red Sox experiences through the years. Bottom line: I am a Boston Red Sox fan, as is my sweetheart, and will be rooting for our boys no matter what! #RedSoxNation

What an amazing organization!!! We came to visit for my birthday as it's been a dream for me to watch the boys in Fenway! We were in section 41, row 1 and we couldn't have had a better experience! Steve with the Grounds Crew was amazing... so amazing that we asked for his autograph and he was more than happy to sign our ball. He deserves another year as the employee of the year... give it to him! Back to Back! What an incredible night! Hands down the BEST birthday I've ever had! GO SOX!!!

    Hell freezes over yet again.:(

Just can't give the Sox 5 stars or even 4. As some of you know I'm a diehard Yankees fan. Always have and always will be. That said as a baseball fan first and foremost gotta be impressed with the building up one of the most storied franchises in baseball. Since that 64 year dry spell they have now won 4 World Series titles in the last 15 years. And the 9th in team history. With a young core of players nicknamed the killer B's have given them a fighting chance year after year. The architect has been Dave Dombrowski president and GM. He's done this with 3 different teams now. Drafting the likes of Mookie Betts, Andrew Benitenti ,Xander Bogarts and Jackie Bradley Jr. was a great start to build a nucleus of players brought up through the system. Plus adding starting pitchers David Price, Chris Sale and Rick Porcello from other teams on the bump. Plus a thumper was added late this pass spring training in JD Martinez . The best RBI guy that this organization has had to fill the void of David ( big papi) Ortiz who retired a few years back. With a few trade deadline deals this past summer plugging a few minor weaknesses along the way. Biggest surprise addition was Steve Pierce. A journey man play that has been on every team in the AL East now. Bringing it all together was first year manager Alex Cora. Pushing all the right buttons at the right time. Whether it was guys sacrificing their rolls to come off the bench or starting pitchers coming out of bullpen to get them to the late inning guys, Joe ( fight club) Kelly and closer Craig Kimbrel. It should be no surprise that they won this year's World Series. They were a wire to wire team with the best record in baseball. But please don't call them a dynasty just yet. But the curse of the Bambino is long gone now.Seems like yesterday that these guys were choke artists in October. Definitely not any more. Those chants of 1918 seem like a very distant memory. Certainly the hunted now.

My love affair with the Boston Red Sox came late in life. As a Los Angeles native, I grew up loving one team. No...not the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim! I bled Dodger Blue all my life but was also a fan of many ball players, many of whom played for the Red Sox organization such as Wade Boggs, Mo Vaughn, Mike Greenwell, Ellis Burks, Roger Clemens, Dwight Evans, and Jim Rice just to name a few. As an adult, I found myself loving this ball club more and more. Going into the 2013 season, I had a good feeling about the Dodgers and Red Sox's chances of meeting in the World Series. In spite of Los Angeles' unreal 42-8 record prior to their interleague series, I knew Boston would bring the Dodgers back to reality. Sure enough, that series would be the beginning of the end of the Dodgers 2013 season. I want to congratulate the Boston Red Sox on their amazing campaign capturing the World Series. This year's team had a lot of heart and they knew what it took to win. It's a shame to see a couple pieces of the puzzle move on but I have faith this organization will do whatever it takes to win again next season. Finally, I don't care what haters say but I was so happy the day the Red Sox signed Manny Ramirez and enjoyed following him throughout his tenure here. (I'm one of those Manny fans who followed him dating back to the Minors.) Best wishes for 2014!

Great price - inexpensive tickets to be up close, inexpensive parking which is easy to get in and out quick, and inexpensive top notch concessions. 3. The breakers didn't make the playoffs in this first year of the WPS league, mostly because we had some injuries and Kelly Smith left us for international duty for a long time. Straight up, though, despite the no-playoffs, the Breakers rule. This is the best opportunity to see high-level soccer in Boston (significantly better than the Revs), and for cheap, too - tickets usually run between $13 and $25 or so. And the hot dogs are cheap, too. The captain, Kristine Lilly, is total boss, even though she's almost 40. Most of the stars of the league are solid U.S. or international players, and it shows. The product on the field is hot. The atmosphere in Harvard Stadium is pretty cool, too - if you like giant concrete horseshoes, which I happen to love. Tickets are technically for specific sections of the stadium, but if you actually worry about sitting where you're supposed to, you've clearly never been to a game. Stupid non-fans who come to the games because they think it will boost their 5-year old daughters' self-esteem tend to be the sticklers for sitting in the "right spot." Also, because the stadium is just a giant open concrete U, it gets windy and cold at times, and rocky. If you don't have a giant ass like I do, you might want to bring something to sit on so your butt cheeks don't fall asleep. The only downsides to the breakers are the HUGE number of tweens in the stands. Because the WPS doesn't think that high-level female soccer can stand on its own as a sporting product (and unfortunately they are probably right), they've marketed the league really heavily as a method of building up young girls' sporting talents and confidence. I don't have a problem with that per se, but the mass of screaming 12 year-old girls who don't really know anything about the game gets irritating after a while. On the other hand, I'm a cantankerous bastard who hates children. Also, Harvard Stadium has football lines on the field. It's an unnecessary blemish, but it is kind of funny watching international players who've never dealt with an American mixed-use stadium try to figure out where the end lines are. The samba band that plays at the games is solid, the soccer is hot, our captain is a storm trooper (in the Star Wars sense: she's scary), and it's easy to get to on the 86, 66, 70 and 70a buses, or the red line. If you like good soccer, this is the place to check some out.

Back home we used to watch Colorado's professional lacrosse team, Mammoth, and enjoy the sheer ridiculous spectacle that is an NLL game. So. When I heard that Boston was getting a professional team I was psyched. Unfortch that was 2008 and there was a player strike so alas, no games. Waah Waah. Luckily, new year, new team. Welcome 2009 and the inaugural season of the Boston Blazers. There are a few things to know about NLL games: The tickets are CHEAP. They start at $13, no joke. Screw those tickets though, drop the additional $10 and get down near the floor. The arena (The Garden) is oddly empty since people aren't huge lacrosse fans and Boston hasn't quite caught on that there's another team to be maniacal about. Now, this doesn't mean people aren't taking their shirts off and screaming at the ref, cause they are. Also, you might see people in Spiderman masks. I don't get it either. BUT if you hate packed arenas, this is a game for you. The game is *violent*. Like hockey used to be before they softened it up for "safety" and "players health". Bah. The players beat each other with sticks, fists, and whatever is nearby. The shove one another in to the glass with an amazingly satisfying THUNK and only wear padding on the upper half of their bodies (well, presumably a cup but whatevs). So yeah, these games are off the hook. The Blazers thus far have a pretty good record especially for a freshman team. They won the game we saw with two points in the last 10 seconds of the game. The winning point within .5 seconds. Awesome. They also have dancers, The Sparks, if that's your gig and for the kiddies a creepy mascot Scorch. Something for everyone. Hopefully more people will get on board so that they stick around this time. Just not enough to raise ticket prices to ridiculous levels.

Of the league's current 32 teams, the Bruins rank fourth in total Stanley Cup Finals appearances (20). Of the Original Six, the Bruins have the worst Finals winning percentage: 300 (6-14). Still, that's six championships which is more than 27 other NHL franchises can say. In the last 50 years, Boston has only won one Stanley Cup and it didn't come easy. The Bruins faced the Vancouver Canucks in the 2011 Finals, a series that went the distance. The Bruins came out on top, 4-3, thanks to strong performances in Games 6 and 7. The squad was led by goalie Tim Thomas, "Big Z" Zdeno Chara, winger Milan Lucic, and center David Krejci. That year, Thomas went on to win the Conn Smythe Trophy (Stanley Cup Finals MVP) and both Thomas and Chara were named to the NHL's All-Star Teams. Lucic and Krejci were drafted by the Bruins in 2006 and 2004, respectively. Claude Julien was the coach of the 2011 championship team. He led Boston to two Stanley Cup Finals appearances in three seasons (2011 and 2013). However, the Bruins also missed the playoffs two years in a row in 2015 and 2016. Julien was eventually fired in the middle of the 2016-17 season. Throughout the Bruins' history, dating back to the 1924-25 season, the team has rarely missed the playoffs two straight years or more. The Bruins consistently qualify for the playoffs, year in and year out. Ray Bourque and Johnny Bucyk, both in the Hockey Hall of Fame, are the franchise's all-time points leaders. Bourque spent 21 seasons in Boston (1976-77 through 1999-2000). He never won a Stanley Cup with the Bruins, but he did with the Colorado Avalanche and retired shortly thereafter (2001). Bucyk helped lead the Bruins to two Stanley Cup championships in 1970 and 1972. Like Bourque, Bucyk spent 21 seasons in Boston (1957-58 through 1977-78). The "Chief" retired a Bruin in 1978. He still holds the franchise record in goals with 545 and Bourque holds the record in assists with 1,111.

My Yelp ratings for NBA teams have been more subjective, in terms of how much I like the teams. If I was more objective, the Boston Celtics would get five stars because they're currently tied with the Los Angeles Lakers for the most NBA titles won (17). I wasn't alive for the Bill Russell era, 1956-1969, when the Celtics won a staggering 11 championships. Red Auerbach was the head coach for nine of those titles. I was too young to appreciate the Larry Bird era, 1979-1992, but I remember it. Bird played his entire 13-year NBA career for Boston and won three titles (1981, 1984, 1986). Our family had the One on One: Dr. J vs. Larry Bird video game for the Atari 7800 (released in 1987): https://youtu.be/n1xE02rxyWo. I learned basic basketball rules from it. The Boston Celtics I'm most familiar with are the much less successful - relatively speaking - Celtics of the 90s and onward. Coach Rick Pitino (1997-2000) had zero playoff appearances. He was hoping to get Tim Duncan in the 1997 NBA Draft. How weird would that have been? I got EA Sports' NBA Live 99 for the Nintendo 64 (released in 1998). Antoine Walker was the cover star and his signature shimmy made it into the game: https://youtu.be/z6d7UA9_VxU?t=15. Walker would lead the Celtics as far as the 2002 Eastern Conference Finals. He later won an NBA title with Pat Riley, Dwyane Wade, Shaquille O'Neal, and the Miami Heat in 2006. The Celtics have always been a popular NBA team due to their championship history and market size. The NBA loves the Celtics and so do the networks (ABC, ESPN, TNT). They're on TV a lot. But, the Celtics have only won one title since 1986, in 2008 with Doc Rivers, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, and Rajon Rondo. In that era, circa 2010, the Celtics had the first "Big Three" "super team" in Pierce, Allen, and Garnett. That was before Miami Heat's Big Three of Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh formed in 2010. A couple things about that 2008 team: (1) One of my favorite teams, the Atlanta Hawks, pushed the championship Celtics to seven games in the first round. It was really exciting for Atlanta at the time because we had missed the playoffs the previous eight years. Al Horford was one of my favorite players on that Hawks team. Horford would later help lead the Celtics to the 2022 NBA Finals. (2) I remember watching Garnett's "Anything is possible!" live. It made me cringe, but it became a part of sports history and American pop culture: https://youtu.be/avaSdC0QOUM?t=130. I like the players on today's Celtics team. Like the dynastic Golden State Warriors since 2009, the core of today's Celtics team was built through the draft. Jaylen Brown (2016), Marcus Smart (2014), Jayson Tatum (2017), Grant Williams (2019), and Robert Williams III (2018) were all drafted by the Celtics. I was already a fan of Horford from his days with the Hawks. Horford is a winner, as evidenced in-part by his back-to-back NCAA championships at Florida (2006-2007). I'm also a fan of Derrick White from his time with the San Antonio Spurs (2017-2022). As a Spurs fan, I was sad to see guys like him and Dejounte Murray leave San Antonio recently. Last week, the Celtics traded away Smart for Kristaps Porzingis. At that time, Smart had been on the Celtics the longest, was a team leader and fan favorite, and had just won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award (2022). That said, after losing in the NBA Finals last year and the Eastern Conference Finals this year, it was time for a change. I think Porzingis is good. This means nothing to the Celtics, but stats-wise, he was a beast for my fantasy team last season. At TD Garden, the Celtics' home court is known for its parquet floor. The only other NBA team to have a parquet floor is the Orlando Magic. The college team I grew up rooting for, Wake Forest, also has a parquet floor (Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, North Carolina).

Our seats were up in the balcony but we had great views and sounds was good. The seats are REALLY close together though, like a large person sitting next to you or someone with big hair is going to be touching you the whole time kind of close together. Not a huge fan of stadium concerts if if it's the only option for that artist TD Garden wasn't bad at all.

We found out there was a free bus that goes from Cambridge to the North End so we decided to take it. We had dinner at one of the nearby restaurants. We were able to stop by at the Hub where everyone was hanging out before the game. Then we went up the escalator to go into TD Garden. I always love seeing different stadiums and all the fans crowding around. There was a sea of green everywhere. I loved the Jet Blue installations and the Boston signage everywhere. We had good seats to see the game. They were playing the Atlanta Hawks and won. The bonus was they were giving away free gift cards to fans and our section was called. We received a $50 giftcard to Encore Casino. That was a bonus for the end of the night. We were able to use it the next day at the casino and win some money. Thanks TD Garden! We really appreciated it!
