I haven't rated NBA teams on Yelp as consistently as I have teams from other professional sports…read moreleagues (e.g., NFL, MLB, NHL). My Yelp ratings for NBA teams have been more subjective, in terms of how much I like the teams. If I was more objective, the Boston Celtics would get five stars because they're currently tied with the Los Angeles Lakers for the most NBA titles won (17). I wasn't alive for the Bill Russell era, 1956-1969, when the Celtics won a staggering 11 championships. Red Auerbach was the head coach for nine of those titles. I was too young to appreciate the Larry Bird era, 1979-1992, but I remember it. Bird played his entire 13-year NBA career for Boston and won three titles (1981, 1984, 1986). The Boston Celtics I'm most familiar with are the much less successful - relatively speaking - Celtics of the 90s and onward. Coach Rick Pitino (1997-2000) had zero playoff appearances. He was hoping to get Tim Duncan in the 1997 NBA Draft. How weird would that have been? I got EA Sports' NBA Live 99 for the Nintendo 64 (released in 1998). He later won an NBA title with Pat Riley, Dwyane Wade, Shaquille O'Neal, and the Miami Heat in 2006. The Celtics have always been a popular NBA team due to their championship history and market size. The NBA loves the Celtics and so do the networks (ABC, ESPN, TNT). They're on TV a lot. But, the Celtics have only won one title since 1986, in 2008 with Doc Rivers, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, and Rajon Rondo. In that era, circa 2010, the Celtics had the first "Big Three" "super team" in Pierce, Allen, and Garnett. That was before Miami Heat's Big Three of Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh formed in 2010. A couple things about that 2008 team: (1) One of my favorite teams, the Atlanta Hawks, pushed the championship Celtics to seven games in the first round. It was really exciting for Atlanta at the time because we had missed the playoffs the previous eight years. Al Horford was one of my favorite players on that Hawks team. Horford would later help lead the Celtics to the 2022 NBA Finals. (2) I remember watching Garnett's "Anything is possible!" live. Like the dynastic Golden State Warriors since 2009, the core of today's Celtics team was built through the draft. Jaylen Brown (2016), Marcus Smart (2014), Jayson Tatum (2017), Grant Williams (2019), and Robert Williams III (2018) were all drafted by the Celtics. I was already a fan of Horford from his days with the Hawks. Horford is a winner, as evidenced in-part by his back-to-back NCAA championships at Florida (2006-2007). I'm also a fan of Derrick White from his time with the San Antonio Spurs (2017-2022). As a Spurs fan, I was sad to see guys like him and Dejounte Murray leave San Antonio recently. Last week, the Celtics traded away Smart for Kristaps Porzingis. At that time, Smart had been on the Celtics the longest, was a team leader and fan favorite, and had just won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award (2022). That said, after losing in the NBA Finals last year and the Eastern Conference Finals this year, it was time for a change. I think Porzingis is good. This means nothing to the Celtics, but stats-wise, he was a beast for my fantasy team last season. At TD Garden, the Celtics' home court is known for its parquet floor. The only other NBA team to have a parquet floor is the Orlando Magic. The college team I grew up rooting for, Wake Forest, also has a parquet floor (Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, North Carolina).

The reasons are endless, thus 5 stars. 1. Great soccer - the women's game has a certain beauty to it that is undeniable and WPS is world class. 2. Great price - inexpensive tickets to be up close, inexpensive parking which is easy to get in and out quick, and inexpensive top notch concessions. 3. Great for kids - I'm the father of 3 girls under the age of 13. It's a great atmosphere for fans. The players are incredible role models and their accessibility after the games is great for the kids.

The breakers didn't make the playoffs in this first year of the WPS league, mostly because we had some injuries and Kelly Smith left us for international duty for a long time. Straight up, though, despite the no-playoffs, the Breakers rule. This is the best opportunity to see high-level soccer in Boston (significantly better than the Revs), and for cheap, too - tickets usually run between $13 and $25 or so. And the hot dogs are cheap, too. The captain, Kristine Lilly, is total boss, even though she's almost 40. Most of the stars of the league are solid U.S. or international players, and it shows. The product on the field is hot. The atmosphere in Harvard Stadium is pretty cool, too - if you like giant concrete horseshoes, which I happen to love. Tickets are technically for specific sections of the stadium, but if you actually worry about sitting where you're supposed to, you've clearly never been to a game. Stupid non-fans who come to the games because they think it will boost their 5-year old daughters' self-esteem tend to be the sticklers for sitting in the "right spot." Also, because the stadium is just a giant open concrete U, it gets windy and cold at times, and rocky. If you don't have a giant ass like I do, you might want to bring something to sit on so your butt cheeks don't fall asleep. The only downsides to the breakers are the HUGE number of tweens in the stands. Because the WPS doesn't think that high-level female soccer can stand on its own as a sporting product (and unfortunately they are probably right), they've marketed the league really heavily as a method of building up young girls' sporting talents and confidence. I don't have a problem with that per se, but the mass of screaming 12 year-old girls who don't really know anything about the game gets irritating after a while. On the other hand, I'm a cantankerous bastard who hates children. Also, Harvard Stadium has football lines on the field. It's an unnecessary blemish, but it is kind of funny watching international players who've never dealt with an American mixed-use stadium try to figure out where the end lines are. The samba band that plays at the games is solid, the soccer is hot, our captain is a storm trooper (in the Star Wars sense: she's scary), and it's easy to get to on the 86, 66, 70 and 70a buses, or the red line. If you like good soccer, this is the place to check some out.

There's no doubt about my love for the original hockey teams and the others that have been around for years. I've been following hockey since childhood and I love them all including the new teams. Don't get me wrong! If the Bruins are competing against New York or especially the Florida Panthers I'm not rooting for them. But you will definitely see me proudly wearing my Bruins favorite winter scarf. If I lived in Boston I'd be right there with my team all the way. I thought I had done this review previously. The home of the Boston Celtics! I was in town for a work conference and wanted to check out the…read moregame while I was here. We found out there was a free bus that goes from Cambridge to the North End so we decided to take it. We had dinner at one of the nearby restaurants. We were able to stop by at the Hub where everyone was hanging out before the game. Then we went up the escalator to go into TD Garden. I always love seeing different stadiums and all the fans crowding around. There was a sea of green everywhere. I loved the Jet Blue installations and the Boston signage everywhere. We had good seats to see the game. They were playing the Atlanta Hawks and won. The bonus was they were giving away free gift cards to fans and our section was called. We received a $50 giftcard to Encore Casino. That was a bonus for the end of the night. We were able to use it the next day at the casino and win some money. Thanks TD Garden! We really appreciated it!

Most recently we saw the C's and sat in the Garden Society - the seats were great and the food was good too. The bathrooms were clean and for once the line was on the men's side. The drink offerings are pretty solid - we didn't get mixed drinks, just beer and cider. I love how they have Downeast on draft. Be prepared to spend more than you're used to - you know how it is, that's how they do it. I was impressed by the giant cookies they had. We tried a peanut butter one and although it was a bit on the sweeter side, we loved it. We didn't get any other food but saw they had a lot to choose from. The giant pizza slices looked good to me. They have lots of memorabilia along the walls and that was fun to check out. All in all, can't wait to be back for another C's game next season!

Of the league's current 32 teams, the Bruins rank fourth in total Stanley Cup Finals appearances (20). Of the Original Six, the Bruins have the worst Finals winning percentage: 300 (6-14). Still, that's six championships which is more than 27 other NHL franchises can say. In the last 50 years, Boston has only won one Stanley Cup and it didn't come easy. The Bruins faced the Vancouver Canucks in the 2011 Finals, a series that went the distance. The Bruins came out on top, 4-3, thanks to strong performances in Games 6 and 7. The squad was led by goalie Tim Thomas, "Big Z" Zdeno Chara, winger Milan Lucic, and center David Krejci. That year, Thomas went on to win the Conn Smythe Trophy (Stanley Cup Finals MVP) and both Thomas and Chara were named to the NHL's All-Star Teams. Lucic and Krejci were drafted by the Bruins in 2006 and 2004, respectively. Claude Julien was the coach of the 2011 championship team. He led Boston to two Stanley Cup Finals appearances in three seasons (2011 and 2013). However, the Bruins also missed the playoffs two years in a row in 2015 and 2016. Julien was eventually fired in the middle of the 2016-17 season. Throughout the Bruins' history, dating back to the 1924-25 season, the team has rarely missed the playoffs two straight years or more. The Bruins consistently qualify for the playoffs, year in and year out. Ray Bourque and Johnny Bucyk, both in the Hockey Hall of Fame, are the franchise's all-time points leaders. Bourque spent 21 seasons in Boston (1976-77 through 1999-2000). He never won a Stanley Cup with the Bruins, but he did with the Colorado Avalanche and retired shortly thereafter (2001). Bucyk helped lead the Bruins to two Stanley Cup championships in 1970 and 1972. Like Bourque, Bucyk spent 21 seasons in Boston (1957-58 through 1977-78). The "Chief" retired a Bruin in 1978. Most tickets are $15 and is more or less open seating. The play is fast and furious and the crowd is made up mostly of young lacrosse players and their families. Really good concessions featuring Redbones BBQ as well as some killer chicken tenders and fries and the usual assortment of stadium/carnival food. The production values are great from the video packages to the dance team to the guy firing cannon shots for every Cannon goal. I'd call it more family oriented then a "guy's night out" kind of experience as there are all sorts of interactive displays before the game sponsored by many lacrosse vendors and the like. The only real negative is the annoying local DJ acting as MC for the twice a quarter contests etc. I know this pays the bills but gosh, it slowed things down and I wanted to head for a beer every time I head this dude open his mouth.
