I was impressed by the balance they kept between strong musicianship and a welcoming atmosphere. The chorus has only gotten more professional since then. I attended the Brookline Chorus performance on November 20th entitled "Motets & Chansons." I was…read moreflabbergasted at the $25 ticket price; I've never attended a choral performance where tickets were that expensive, particularly when one can attend free performances by the New England Conservatory at Jordan Hall. Additionally, up to the day of the performance, the "buy tickets" link on the Brookline Chorus site was surreptitiously hidden, giving the impression the concert was free (until we arrived and saw ticket prices tacked to a sign outside the church). Anyway, rip-off pricing aside, the concert was a collection of traditional madrigals with some contemporary pieces thrown in. It was a rather dull selection, with little variation or energy, and there was an irritating amount of unnecessary narration between songs. Nonetheless, there were some amazing voices amongst the group, and the members are undoubtedly very talented. I only wish they'd had a better repertoire for this concert.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it operates with continuous tours and they will place you with an active tour to join and then you can continue when that one is done with another tour to complete viewing the entire house. This also allowed for a couple of different tour guides. I duplicated one room in completing my tour and was able to observe that the tours are a bit unique by guide, not a memorized canned tour script. Interesting tour and house to visit overall with knowledgeable guides eager to share all that they know.

This was a terrible acting experience. I have acted in theatre before and wanted to jump back into…read morethe stage. I didn't really learn much...at all. When he finished up the 5-week course by telling the most talented and passionate performer in the class that she displayed "the most terrible acting (he) had seen all year", we all reached the mutual consensus that we wasted $350 and learned way more from each other than we did from the instructor. The word tossed around after class was "crazy", and I am sure that the 7 of us who took it will never take another of his classes again.

I took the TV and Film Acting course with Brianne Beatrice, which is a 6 week, 3-hour class…read more Brianne was wonderful. Brianne's style is a "Tell you like it is!" method, meaning to sober up anyone with visions of grandeur of what the industry is all about and what you as an actor can expect. We prepared monologues for class, after the first half was spent in lecture on the Stanford Meisner approach and audition protocols, and how to meet industry expectations. I learned new things about myself, which is helping me develop a stronger foundation and preparation for opportunities. Brianne has been acting since she was five, actress, and director of plays, and a professor at a local college. (Visit her FB page.) The course is on Tremont Street in the city, so bring your quarters or take public transportation. Near the NE Medical Center/Orange Line Stop. And walking distance from both NEMC and Back Bay.

I was pleasantly surprised by this event…read more I will admit I was worried about the Revere crowds. My memories of Revere Beach center around Plumbers Cleavage, Tramp Stamps, and jiggling pot bellies. Fortunately this crowd was no where to be seen. It was a very diverse, international crowd. Many foreign languages being spoken. And I think I was the token blonde in the crowd. We choose to go on Sunday evening. Hoping the crowds had thinned. It was still pretty crowded. I can only imagine how crowded it would have been earlier based on the throngs of people leaving. Traffic and parking was a nightmare. We must have spent 45 minutes to go the last 1/2 mile - we had planned to park at Wonderland. Fortunately some people were leaving and we were able to snag their parking spot. We finally arrived after 7. We circled the sculptures, first on the ocean side- seeing the backs. By the time we got to the front side to circle back, the crowds had thinned even more and, though still packed, we were able to get easy photos of all the sculptures. I plan to return next year. Will probably try to go earlier in the week to see the sculptors at work. And will definitely take the T.
