The coffee is consistently excellent, and they offer a great selection of sandwiches and food if you're planning to stay for a few hours. Unlike some coffee shops that can get overwhelmingly loud, James Oliver maintains a noise level that makes it easy to focus while still feeling lively. What really sets it apart is that you can comfortably take meetings here without worrying about excessive background noise, and it's equally great for getting work done between calls. If you're looking for a coffee shop in Detroit with great coffee, good food, and a productive work environment, James Oliver is definitely worth a visit.

Given how busy it was on a Monday afternoon, I believe this place must be popular! There's ample seating for those who want to stay in. The shop is very quaint with simple but stylish decor, indoor seating at tables, a counter along the wall and a couple bistro sets outside. I had a latte which was wonderful and a bagel sandwich which was delicious! A sesame rosemary bagel with ham, garlic herb cream cheese and toasted in a panini press. Yum! I got the raspberry scone for later, ate it driving to work the next morning and was still awesome! Soft and perfect moisture inside with crunchy bits on the edges. Raspberry flavor came through nicely and lightly glazed for sweet touch. The staff were very friendly, professional and efficient as there was an almost continuous line of 7-8 people but the wait time was not long. Prices were reasonable for the quality and portions you receive. It's on a side street so parking on the Main Street is best option and walking a bit. There's 1 step to enter about 4 inches for those who have mobility issues. I highly recommend this little shop for the quaint atmosphere and feeling like you're in a movie. I'd cross the border for that sandwich and scone anytime!

The place is spacious, high ceiling in the front, and a smaller cozy nook in the back. They have the standard drip, espresso, and latte choices, and of course the lattes give you the option to add a flavor shot. They even have seasonal flavors! (It's late December when I'm writing this, so gingerbread is the choice today.) If coffee isn't your thing, they also offer smoothies and a wide choice or teas. Herbal, non-herbal, chai latte, matcha latte...look, if there's a tea or coffee beverage you can't find here, then you're way more fussy than I am. Of course they have a wide variety of baked goods, and also a small selection of sandwiches and grilled sandwiches. The people behind the counter have always been super friendly and provide great service. To finish up, they have WiFi and two communal tables with easily accessed outlets for customers to sit and work. Highly recommended as a relaxing place to unwind and read a few pages of that book you keep meaning to stare.

Turns out these guys supply the gluten free pizza crusts to Johnny's Piez, and they are awesome (separate review). For celiacs, this place is fabulous because it is a 100% gluten free facility so everything is good to eat. So far I've tried: the Danish (okay, not overly sweet which is nice but the pastry is too dense) the bagels (not very good - the dough is pasty and doesn't have that "bagel" flavour and texture, even when toasted) the bread crumbs (very good - they cook well and taste good). I will update this review with more info as I eat my way through their products.

Upon calling the store to clairfy/confirm details of our order, the female phone rep. was very short, sounded agitated (like she wanted to get off the phone ASAP), as I confirmed details of our large order- in summary this associate, blatantly/intentionally ignored everything I said and the bulk of our order was incomplete/missing! Upon calling the store to request to speak to the manager, a different (Af. American) female rep. answered and upon asking to speak to the manager, I hear her blatantly mocking me saying out loud in a cartoon character like voice "TOMmmmy, a customer is asking to speak to you!!!) all while laughing. SMH After talking with Tom who (initially) seemed civil, professional and willing to help, Tom advised me to tell Uber Eats that "order never arrived!!!!!!!!!" UNBELIEVABLE, I will NEVER order from a store where the manager encourages being dishonest!!! I simply called Uber Eats immediately afterwards, and told them exactly that MANAGER TOM told me to tell them while explaining that what he was telling me to tell them was NOT TRUE, as the STORE was at fault for our incomplete order (and NOT Uber Eats) and they went ahead and gave us a full refund + $20 credit for the inconvenience, while also THANKING me and taking note of the less than impressive (and highly DISHONEST) advice that manager Tom had given us. Not really sure how high up the totem pole 'manager Tom' actually is, but if he's the one making the hiring decisions of these several unfriendly/non-helpful associates working at his Grosse Pointe Woods EINSTEIN BAGELS store on Mack Ave., then it all makes perfect sense.....SMH!
