He said the egg and sausage were cooked in microwave so it had a soft and mushy taste. He said it was one of the worst breakfast sandwich he had. The coffee was not good either. There isn't really a lot space to sit down and enjoy the food, it's mostly take out place. The don't have the single pack ketchup or mustard for you to grab if you want. The first time I went here in May (pictured) I got a lox sandwich on a jalepeno bagel with tomato. The bagel was so fluffy and good. I ended up getting all the ingredients from the store and making them at home I loved it so much. Unfortunately tried again today (July) and the bagel was flat, hard, and chewy. I ordered two baker's dozen: Blueberry, Raisin, Sesame, Everything, Garlic and Parmesan with 4 tubs of cream cheese: Plain, Garlic, Chives and Sundried tomato. I was advised to get two tubs for every baker's dozen. $49.94 Minus the everything bagel and Parmesan, the blueberry, raisin, garlic and sesame were more sparse than I prefer my bagels. The dough inside the bagel was decent, but not like the big billowy ones I have eaten in NYC, could it be the Detroit water? If this review was just about the bagels, the rating would be a 5! Unfortunately I decided on the egg sandwich. The egg and sausage were cooked in plastic in a microwave. Both were bland and the sausage was rubbery at the edges. The egg was very pale and a very soft texture. It was either an egg product or diluted with milk or some other liquid. My dog loved them! Two years I was eyeballing this location, always wondering what awaited inside. I love a good, fresh baked bagel. Upon walking in, I noticed the smell of stale cigarette smoke. I ordered a Parmesan bagel with garlic herb cream cheese. The gal waiting me was pleasant. We made small talk while she toasted my bagel in a toaster for me. So, service was ok. I came into the bagel shop with my (white) coworker, and it's a sign that say if you don't order with cream cheese then it won't be toasted. My coworkers and I were craving lox and bagels, and we decided that it had to be at this place. I usually go to their Orchard Lake location, so this was my first time here to grab some goodies. The prices here are pretty standard, but what keeps me coming back are A) where ever they get their lox from and B) their fresh bagels. I think they even make their own cream cheese?? Either way, its ALL delicious. I went with my usual and ordered 6 bagels. Three onion and three garlic bagels, along with the chive cream cheese and a half of pound of lox. The lox here isn't cheap, but it is the best around. About $25 a pound, and worth every penny. Grand total for today's order? About $25. The service here was great, and quick. We're in Detroit, but these are definitely New York bagels. They had the right texture outside and in plus the right shmear of cream cheese. The usual flavors and nothing terribly fancy. I'm visiting from out of town and had a pretty decent egg and cheese sandwich from the Ferndale location of NY Bagel yesterday. Figured I'd grab another one on my way out of the Detroit area, and this was the location that was on the way. I get to the front of the line, and order my sandwich (egg and cheese on an onion bagel) and the lady looks at me and says, flatly, "We don't do that." I repeated, "You don't do that?" in a kind but confused voice. And then, from her, just a flat, "No." I suppose she meant they didn't make sandwiches there and only sold bagels, but there was a sign behind her for egg salad and tuna salad sandwiches, so maybe it's that they only serve cold sandwiches. I have working in Southfield for 9 years and I never knew this place existed! My favorite thing to eat for lunch is a Nova Lox sandwich and I wish I would have known about this place sooner because they have the best nova lox. It's a small shop with the best bagels you will ever have. I absolutely mean that when I say the BEST BAGELS you will ever have. I love this place. So far the best bagel I've found in metro Detroit, but I am still new. Don't waste your carb calorie allotment on Einstein's, Tim Horton's (BLAH!) or Biggby's - a 16 oz. coffee and a bagel with (plain) cream cheese all cost more at those chain places and the quality ranges from pretty passable to downright terrible; whereas NYBBC has the legit freaking bagels (here I get flavored cream cheese for less). The staff is super nice and if you're nice back they always seem to be down to hook it up. I only wish the coffee was kept in a heated container instead of just the carafes on the countertop as it isn't steaming hot at the times I find myself there. But, it's still warm and I don't go there for coffee, I go there for BAGELS!!! read more

I don't get all the great reviews!! I went here on a Sunday morning at about 8 am and had the worst bagels I've had ever!! Very nice people working there, but the bagels were hard and dry. Yuck!! Asked my wife to confirm the obvious and she thought that they must be old. Maybe I was there too early and they gave me yesterday's leftovers. At other places the bagels are warm and soft. Much better than the chains, and the closest thing to NY bagels you're going to get around here. The everything bagel is EVERYTHING and even has fennel seeds on it.
