Good dense bagel. Pretty popular local chain. Can't go wrong with a fresh toasted bagel in the morning. They have a large bagel sandwich menu too if you need something more creative.

The first time I went here in May (pictured) I got a lox sandwich on a jalepeno bagel with tomato. The bagel was so fluffy and good. I ended up getting all the ingredients from the store and making them at home I loved it so much. Unfortunately tried again today (July) and the bagel was flat, hard, and chewy. Thankfully I'll save money on my cravings for this. But will keep thinking about the first time. Guess it's hit or miss.

I stopped by here on the way into the office to get my team some carby bites before the Easter break coming up. Figured a bit of change from the typical donut run. It's busy here, that's usually a good sign. I was 4th in line, more folks inside waiting on their food order. I ordered two baker's dozen: Blueberry, Raisin, Sesame, Everything, Garlic and Parmesan with 4 tubs of cream cheese: Plain, Garlic, Chives and Sundried tomato. I was advised to get two tubs for every baker's dozen. $49.94 Minus the everything bagel and Parmesan, the blueberry, raisin, garlic and sesame were more sparse than I prefer my bagels. The dough inside the bagel was decent, but not like the big billowy ones I have eaten in NYC, could it be the Detroit water? Still the bagels smelled good and were okay, my team appreciated the carbs to fill their belly for the day's work.

Two years I was eyeballing this location, always wondering what awaited inside. I love a good, fresh baked bagel. Upon walking in, I noticed the smell of stale cigarette smoke. I ordered a Parmesan bagel with garlic herb cream cheese. The gal waiting me was pleasant. We made small talk while she toasted my bagel in a toaster for me. So, service was ok. Other bagel shops generally cut it in half, but whatever. The cream cheese was pretty soft, but it was in a heated bagel that tends to happen. The bagel itself was horrible. It was overcooked and so dry. I seriously thought about throwing it away.

The bagel guy was very racist, treated me and another Customer so terrible. Let me tell y'all a story............ I came into the bagel shop with my (white) coworker, and it's a sign that say if you don't order with cream cheese then it won't be toasted. So I ordered with cream cheese, then he gave me a cold bagel. So I asked if he could toast it. He gave me every excuse not to toast it. Then after paying was like fuck it I'll toast it. Because I pointed out the sign. Then treated my coworker with all respect. Then another black male walked in. He treated him like crap as well. He asked how much is the water he said I have to ring it up. So the guy went and got the water then he told him, that we wouldn't ring the water up because all he wanted was the price. So he didn't get the water and the bagels was terrible cream cheese was watery and wasn't very good. Wouldn't recommend.

I saw all the reviews and decided to stop by. My bagel was super small. Barely the size of the palm of my hand.

Best bagels I've had in 40 yrs. Einstein, Bruegger's and Starbucks bagels don't even come close to the bagels from here.

Their tuna is unreal--dangerously good--and the corned beef is everything you'd hope for and more. I'll be honest: when you walk up, the place doesn't look like much from the outside. Inside, it feels like a small, old‑school grocery store that hasn't changed much over the years. But don't let that fool you for a second. This is one of those "don't judge a book by its cover" spots where the food does all the talking--and it speaks loud and clear. Star Deli is a staple, and honestly, I feel like I shouldn't even have to explain why it's great. It's been here forever because it deserves to be. If you're not getting Star Deli, wow--you're seriously missing out. This place is an absolute classic, and the food is nothing short of amazing. ---

Don't eat here. No one in there right mind would pay $20 for a simple sandwich. It's 4 ingredients, they got upset with me when I was politely confused due to the price.. a simple sandwich doesn't cost $20. There is no reason a sandwich with two slices of bread, some sandwich meat, bottled Russian dressing, and two slices of cheese would cost anywhere over $8... I have been patronizing this restaurant for over 12 years. I have a feeling that they are taking advantage of their long standing position in this community, a loyal customer base, and customers not understanding pricing of beef.. 6 slices of corn beef is about $3, two slices of rye bread is $0.50, two slices of Swiss cheese is $0.20, a spread of Russian dressing is $0.05.... And they will charge you $20 for a sandwich..... this is awful, disloyal, and advantageous. Don't go here, find another place for lunch that respects hard working people trying to get a decent sandwich. Their food is great, but no intelligent person is paying $20 for a sandwich. It's almost laughable if it wasn't so disrespectful.

There were at least six people "working"--standing around talking loudly with the radio blasting, mainly--and even though I was just getting a single bagel with cream cheese it took forever. And no one else was even in the store. At a certain point, the manager/owner called over to me and said "we're having trouble with the toaster." I had been super clear that I wanted it "not toasted." Then because he could tell I was irritated and it had been, well, forever, he started scolding the workers about talking too much, the music being too loud, etc., to no avail. They just kept going. And when the time came to finally hand me my bagel, there was no apology, "I'm sorry," or any acknowledgement at all that it had been a really inappropriately long time that I had been waiting--again, with no one else in the store. And six employees working. The sad thing is that the bagels at this place are pretty good, about the best you are going to get in metro Detroit, but I won't be back. Management needs to step up in this place and enact a more professional approach to customer service.
