I brought my pets to Dr Katz in 2017 and it's taken me years to construct a calm review, based on facts. Read the negative reviews about Natural Pet in Bourbonnais - in my experience, they're accurate. This practice used to be owned by Dr Karen Becker who had a thriving holistic practice in Bourbonnais. Dr Becker sold it to Dr Katz... This was my experience: *Dr Katz set a timer so we were talking over one another trying to beat the clock like a bad game show. *I was charged 50 for 15 minutes was way too expensive - even for a holistic vet. *She misdiagnosed ringworm twice, resulting on it spreading to myself and my children. *The examination rooms and scales were not clean, or not cleaned between animals. She examined my kittens on the floor, (there weren't tables in the room), where there was other pet hair. Pet hair on the small scale too. *She refused to answer my calls and provide guidance after ringworm had spread to my other kitten - even though I had paid her for two other vet visits where she failed to diagnose it. *When my kitten was vomiting later that night after being seen by Dr Katz, she would only respond via text - would not answer the phone even though I was willing to pay for after hours guidance. *I saw Dr Katz yell at her employees. *Her employee spoke poorly about Dr Katz behind her back. *The operating room looked like a dark, janitor's closet. *The place only has hours three days a week...what do you do if your pet needs to be seen the other half of the week? *Refused to honor or acknowledge a $20 off new patient coupon after I realized it hadn't been applied at my first visit. (I called later about it.) Bottom line, in my opinion, there are professional, compassionate, and reasonably priced, holistic veterinarians in the area - skip this one. (It took me a long time to construct this review as I didn't want it to be based on emotions - and there were many negative emotions I needed to sort out. I would be surprised if there wasn't a response attempting to attack my character, however, I have proof my review is accurate and factual and can post pictures if deemed necessary.)

Our kitten was seen by Dr. Torok for luxating patellas in both hind legs. She seemed very…read moreknowledgeable and I had read prior (glowing) reviews for the practice, including some that mentioned pets being seen for similar issues with patellar luxation. We have since learned that the surgery should not have been performed for a variety of reasons and will not return to this practice. Note that this review is centered around cat treatment; hopefully the practice is more knowledgeable and compassionate to other animals, but the multiple issues we ran into should give anyone pause before bringing their pet here. When first visiting, Dr. Torok examined our kitten who had grade IV luxating patellas, the most severe grade. She let us know we would need to do surgery at 11-12 months old, when our cat was fully grown, to fully correct her knees. She also firmly expressed that in order to ensure the most successful surgery and avoid any complications, we should do a preliminary surgery ASAP to try and relieve some of the tension in her legs due to the severity of her luxation. If not, it would get "harder and harder and harder" to perform the final surgery at ~1 year old. We scheduled and had surgery performed that week as, at the time, we believed that it was the correct thing to do. Two weeks post-surgery, we had bandages removed because of swelling in our cat's foot, during which she was screaming the entirety of the time. Dr. Torok and team confirmed she had a wound on her toe. They proceeded to affirm that she was not screaming because of pain and we shouldn't be concerned, administered an antibiotic for the toe, and re-bandaged it. The following day, I called the practice as our cat had seemed very uncomfortable. Whenever she moved, she would scream/cry, and she had trouble getting comfortable enough to sleep even with pain-relievers and a sedative. Honestly, I wasn't sure if this was typical post-surgery/bandage removal. The tech said she spoke with Dr. Torok and, "Dr. Torok said she shouldn't be too uncomfortable". No mentions of increasing her gabapentin, or even acknowledgement that she could be in pain. We later took her to an ER where they confirmed she was very, very painful even after several pain-relieving meds and sedation. This is what caused alarm bells to start going off for us - this practice, which claims to be "fear-free", did not trust us nor our animal when showing signs that she was in extreme pain. We decided to transfer her care to MedVet and met with a surgeon that week to confirm we were following appropriate aftercare so our cat would recover well from surgery and get back to living her life as a kitten. They delivered the jarring news that this surgery should not have been done on a cat so young, should never be done on both legs at the same time, and she should not have been bandaged from the waist down to her toes. We now have to go to physical therapy for the next several weeks to help our cat regain her range of motion, care for her injured toes from the bandages, and then follow through with corrective surgery when she is one year old. Both us and our cat are incredibly distraught. I wish Dr. Torok had realized that this surgery was out of her depth and referred us to an orthopedic specialist as opposed to rushing us to do a surgery that, ultimately, may end up hurting our poor cat (beyond the pain that she is already experiencing). We relayed feedback regarding this surgery and our experience to the practice, and they did end up issuing a partial credit to us, but unfortunately no monetary value can be assigned to the distress we have experienced. As a final note to anyone that this makes a difference to, I learned after our visits that they perform declaws. I'm not sure the extent to which these are performed, but hopefully someone from the practice can comment so others are informed prior to choosing this as their practice.

I followed…read moreher from her previous office to this office because there isn't anything that she wouldn't do for my pets. She takes the time to better understand my pets' personalities, habits, and any illnesses they may have. I would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone seeking vet care for their fur babies. 5 This part of the review is directed toward the facility, not the care we received from Dr. Mullen. The prices are a bit steep. Just to see a "healthy" pet is $79 and if your pet is "sick" it's $89. The Wellness Plans also went up in price as my Pom used to have the highest package (there are 3) and I paid around $91/mo. and now it's $113. If I got the same package for my senior kitty it would be $142/mo.! My Pom has always had bad teeth and I was quoted $2100-$2700 for a dental with extractions. Having the highest Wellness Plan doesn't provide much relief either as it only covers around $700 of the total bill.

Her nutritional and medical advice is superb. She did not suggest any unnecessary tests, she asks the right questions, she makes some good nutritional recommendations. I appreciated the handout she gave me for approved raw and grain-free food. I have referenced this handout several times when seeking out different options for food. I find her very compassionate about animals and holistic treatments. She is compassionate about what is put in pet food, I got quite an education about what is in some commercial products. I've found their front desk reception staff to be pleasant and helpful every visit, and also when I call. I have called to make appointments and to order a supplement, which they shipped to me (I appreciated not having to drive an hour there and back to get it). Yes, when you book a first time appointment it takes a couple months to get in with Dr. Grant. She is very popular. When I needed a more urgent visit I was able to book an emergency visit for approximately $100. As long as the staff disclosed this amount and why, I was fine with it. I saw they have boarding, the cats that were in the cat boarding looked pretty happy and it appeared to be clean and tidy in the boarding room.

I went to his regular vet multiple times, was prescribed expensive prescription dog food, lots of medications, etc, but nothing helped. On top of that, he was gaining weight. He was 35lbs when I first brought him home ballooned up to 50lbs (too much for a dog his size). He was also extremely anxious, stressed, and very fear aggressive. The first thing Odette did was do blood work and saliva tests. Lo and behold, my dog was allergic to chicken! The main ingredient in his prescription food. Under Dr. Suter's care, I learned all about animal health and nutrition. My dog's anxiety and stress is getting much better as well. She also did some chiropractic work on him (he skips on his back legs) and he's now doing so much better than I could have ever thought. Odette does AMAZING work and her goal isn't just to fix your animal's symptoms. She works to fix their overall health as well. She teaches you on animal health, with up to date statistics and information, and strives to help you become an educated pet parent. I'm so thankful to have found her! Absolutely love Odette and highly recommend her to everyone.
