We love Dr. Mullen and the care she provides for my fur babies (Luigi and Eve Makayla). I followed her from her previous office to this office because there isn't anything that she wouldn't do for my pets. She takes the time to better understand my pets' personalities, habits, and any illnesses they may have. I would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone seeking vet care for their fur babies. 5 This part of the review is directed toward the facility, not the care we received from Dr. Mullen. The prices are a bit steep. Just to see a "healthy" pet is $79 and if your pet is "sick" it's $89. The Wellness Plans also went up in price as my Pom used to have the highest package (there are 3) and I paid around $91/mo. and now it's $113. If I got the same package for my senior kitty it would be $142/mo.! My Pom has always had bad teeth and I was quoted $2100-$2700 for a dental with extractions. Having the highest Wellness Plan doesn't provide much relief either as it only covers around $700 of the total bill. read more

Our kitten was seen by Dr. Torok for luxating patellas in both hind legs. She seemed very knowledgeable and I had read prior (glowing) reviews for the practice, including some that mentioned pets being seen for similar issues with patellar luxation. We have since learned that the surgery should not have been performed for a variety of reasons and will not return to this practice. Note that this review is centered around cat treatment; hopefully the practice is more knowledgeable and compassionate to other animals, but the multiple issues we ran into should give anyone pause before bringing their pet here. When first visiting, Dr. Torok examined our kitten who had grade IV luxating patellas, the most severe grade. She let us know we would need to do surgery at 11-12 months old, when our cat was fully grown, to fully correct her knees. She also firmly expressed that in order to ensure the most successful surgery and avoid any complications, we should do a preliminary surgery ASAP to try and relieve some of the tension in her legs due to the severity of her luxation. If not, it would get "harder and harder and harder" to perform the final surgery at ~1 year old. We scheduled and had surgery performed that week as, at the time, we believed that it was the correct thing to do. Two weeks post-surgery, we had bandages removed because of swelling in our cat's foot, during which she was screaming the entirety of the time. Dr. Torok and team confirmed she had a wound on her toe. They proceeded to affirm that she was not screaming because of pain and we shouldn't be concerned, administered an antibiotic for the toe, and re-bandaged it. The following day, I called the practice as our cat had seemed very uncomfortable. Whenever she moved, she would scream/cry, and she had trouble getting comfortable enough to sleep even with pain-relievers and a sedative. Honestly, I wasn't sure if this was typical post-surgery/bandage removal. The tech said she spoke with Dr. Torok and, "Dr. Torok said she shouldn't be too uncomfortable". No mentions of increasing her gabapentin, or even acknowledgement that she could be in pain. We later took her to an ER where they confirmed she was very, very painful even after several pain-relieving meds and sedation. This is what caused alarm bells to start going off for us - this practice, which claims to be "fear-free", did not trust us nor our animal when showing signs that she was in extreme pain. We decided to transfer her care to MedVet and met with a surgeon that week to confirm we were following appropriate aftercare so our cat would recover well from surgery and get back to living her life as a kitten. They delivered the jarring news that this surgery should not have been done on a cat so young, should never be done on both legs at the same time, and she should not have been bandaged from the waist down to her toes. We now have to go to physical therapy for the next several weeks to help our cat regain her range of motion, care for her injured toes from the bandages, and then follow through with corrective surgery when she is one year old. Both us and our cat are incredibly distraught. I wish Dr. Torok had realized that this surgery was out of her depth and referred us to an orthopedic specialist as opposed to rushing us to do a surgery that, ultimately, may end up hurting our poor cat (beyond the pain that she is already experiencing). We relayed feedback regarding this surgery and our experience to the practice, and they did end up issuing a partial credit to us, but unfortunately no monetary value can be assigned to the distress we have experienced. As a final note to anyone that this makes a difference to, I learned after our visits that they perform declaws. I'm not sure the extent to which these are performed, but hopefully someone from the practice can comment so others are informed prior to choosing this as their practice. read more

I have nothing but great things to say about this place. When I adopted my lil Miss Millie, my other frenchie and 2 Pomeranians were a little too rough with her and one of them broke her leg. I took her to MedVet and was quoted ridiculous $10-$20,000 surgery price for a 7lb frenchie!!!! I took my baby and called around to other places. I googled this place and emailed them. I want to say it was a Tuesday/Wednesday. I received a cal back and was quoted a price much more reasonable for my baby Millie. The surgery was scheduled for that Friday of that week.!! Everyone was so nice and welcoming and they took great care of my baby Miss Millie. About a month and half later she is doing great. Her fracture is healed and she thinks she's the boss of my other fur babies. There were some dressing issues and upset stomach along the way, and the staff was always available and tried to accommodate us as best as they could. I live in the city so it was challenging with my work schedule and the distance but they always tried to work with me. I would definitely recommend this place!!! read more

Well, I am adding to the list of clients dissatisfied by the treatment at Urban Vet and based on past history cannot wait for Dr Torok to reply as to why she was correct and I am wrong. For starters, I'm my opinion, this clinic is about the green dollar not about animal welfare. I am sorry but the rates they are charging are fare higher than any I have paid even when I lived in the SF Bay Area - one of the most expensive communities there is in the US. Now, having gone to another vet here locally - I know for a fact this clinic is over charging for their services. I initially took my two cats in last August as they had both developed diarrhea after our long cross country drive and it wasn't resolving. It was an "emergency" visit - so I was charge exorbitant rates for both cats just to "see" the doctor. Which was fine - I was new to the area and needed some meds to fix up my kitties. At the time, Dr Torok told me my one kitty had oral issues and told me (more like shamed me) that he must have surgery. I had just adopted the kitty a few months prior from the humane society and the kitty had never been totally well - I explained my previous vet thought he had kitty IBD and before hopping to surgery I wanted to get his digestion under control. At this point, both cats made a recovery and was doing well. Since then one kitty had a relapse - the one with IBD - around the same time he needed his vaccines. I scheduled his vaccine visit (at the same time as I brought in one of my dogs) and asked if we could address the diarrhea issue again. Dr Torok again shamed me for the kitties mouth as well - never did she mention an oral antibiotic to get rid of the oral infection. Which - learning from my new vet - was putting my kitty in danger this whole time. He should have been given medication back in August if she noticed it then!!!! He lived for 6 months with an oral infection that could have been treated and cured within days on the antibiotic. Additionally, according to the new vet - she prescribed a high dose of a broad spectrum antibiotic for the GI issues - when there is a low dose antibiotic that is PROVEN to work with cats who have IBD. After seeing Dr Torok again my cat got much worse - which is why I sought the second opinion and boy am I glad I did. My cat is doing exponentially better after four days on the new medication. None of these treatments were even presented to me by Torok. Now, I know she's going to say I refused the labs she suggested - damn straight I did because she overcharged for everything. That day my dogs visit was $57 dollars just to step in the door but since my kitty had an issue - his visit was deemed an illness (he is chronically ill) and charged $71. The thing is - the other vet, who is older and has years more experience- didn't need to run expensive tests that would only stress out an animal that already felt badly. Instead - he knew how to fix the issue and did. Oh also - he came to my house & charged less for the "vet fee" than Torok charges in her clinic. I am sorry but if your pet actually needs medical care - go to another vet. One that will not shame you or prescribe the wrong meds. PS: I am willing to pay whatever is needed to care for my pets btw - however, I will not be shamed into testing beyond what is needed. Vets are not supposed to use your love for your pets against you for their financial gains. read more

Our dogs have received routine check ups, major surgery to remove cancerous tunors, and they've even been there for us when we had to say goodbye to one. I've contemplating writing this review and I wanted to give myself enough time to process things before doing so. I initially really liked Dr. Torok when my dog was for him ''healthy'', although he did have a chronic illness. My little guy was always a grump and to be honest I don't think she really wanted to treat him. Like others have said in the reviews, if the animal isnt super friendly, its a different experience. This past winter, he took a turn for the worse and I looked here for guidance, which was my first mistake. He was gradually getting worse over the course of a few weeks and I do believe now he was misdiagnosed the entire time now that I have taken my other dog to a new vet and have spoken to others which has proved to be fatal. I get it, I know my dog had a chronic illness, but that also doesn't mean he couldn't get sick with something else and be treated successfully. I do believe the antibiotic she gave him at the end wasn't the right call either. He was drooling profusely and his gums were pale ONLY after taking that medication. She didn't even look at his gums or listen to my concerns. I think she made the decision in her mind that he was old and he was already sick so the best thing to do was just do put him down. I should have fought for my him more and gotten a second opinion. Also, in those few weeks when he wasn't improving I had taken him in a few times and Dr. Torok said ''oh, we should've gotten him in the morning so we could have him on fluids and an IV''. which I would've happily done if someone from her office even said that. We never even redid blood tests. On the day I was thinking of putting him down, her assistant said to me ''She's busy, unless you want her to skip her lunch.'' I get it, my dog is not the only dog that is sick, but this dog was my world and to say that to someone that is about to put their dog down is disgusting. I should've taken that as a sign and took him elsewhere. read more

I was so impressed with my baby's visit with Dr Torok. She took her time and is so knowledgeable. She is the first vet I have taken my dog to who actually is willing to treat my dog's pain instead of making me feel like I need to make a rash decision about a surgery to remove my dog's eyes. While I know the surgery is necessary in the long run, I feel better knowing my baby will have less pain until we make that decision to remove her eyes. read more

Being in the veterinary industry I am very particular on what I want in a veterinarian and a practice. Urban Vet by far exceeded my other experiences! My 15 year old dog has been a mess at appointments (anxiety) and this was by far the most relaxed visit she has EVER had. Dr Torok has invested in top notch equipment and technology, as well as her own education..PLUS is an AAHA accredited hospital-(which involves onsite evaluation of over 900 standards of care...something most clients are not familiar with, but trust me, makes a difference). I'm absolutely thrilled I found this place. It's literally a block away from my house. I moved to Westmont from Glen Ellyn and was afraid to switch vets. So I kept driving 25 min one way every few months. Well during Cruising Nights I purchased some dog treats and a card was attached. Well it's good for wellness exam up to two pets. So I decided to take chance. Boy am I happy I did. The receptionist was warm and inviting. The atmosphere is centered around not just the pets, but their parents. I was offered coffee tea or water. So sweet. Then they took ny babies and I in a room and the techs asked me a few questions and checked their breathing and heart rate. My old vet neverrrrr did that before. I swear. I felt like a number at my old vet. With Urban Vet, I felt like part of the family. The owner and Veterinarian came in, Jessica, and she was so amazing with my babies. Since they're older one couldn't get on table so she sat down with me on the floor and did the exam. She made my babies and myself extremely comfortable and relaxed. My dogs warmed up to them in no time. Urban Vet completely changed my views on how Vet offices operate. Jessica was very informative and even spent time on a nutritional plan for both my dogs. Wow. Talk about great service. I left feeling my babies were in excellent hands. They have different memberships as well which covers senior dogs and some of their needs. I can't wait to sign-up. I will always be a client of Urban Veterinarian. I'm happy and most importantly my dogs were happy. Now-a-days I feel rushed and there's not much focus in customer service. But not at Urban Vet. Don't do it. Don't go. Torok has insane policies if you don't wish to spend over $100.00 more than for online pharmacy FLEA AND TICK meds. She also has you sign a form that says hers are cheaper (lie) and PetMeds and other online pharmacies can't be trusted. Then even though the form says they will send the prescription to the online pharmacy, they staff kept telling me to come and pick it up, even though I had been there for an appt two days before that. She needs money, but this is no way to make it. The staff is scary rude, could win prizes. She is money hungry. read more

We came here after our regular vet could not treat a torn ligament in our dog. I am so happy to have Dr Torok in my town. I felt completely comfortable with the treatment plan & the care my dog was & is still being given. We have decided to change vet practices after this experience for several reasons. Mainly being that we were treated respectfully, all our questions were answered, the staff seems to really care about the animals & the families. My dogs are reactive to other animals, so having an office that is by appointment only so there are not a bunch of other animals in the waiting area is a blessing! Dr. Torok is an amazing veterinarian. My previous vet had been treating my dog for over a year. He did not figure out what the root of her problems was. However, Dr. T diagnosed Starr's anal sac cancer almost immediately. She is very kind and through and she loves pets. She is taking great care of my old gal. I have a white German Shepherd named Starr who does not mind to going to see the vet. We are just keeping Starr comfortable for the rest of her doggie days. I visited Urban Vet as an emergency visit and would highly recommend them for everything from regular exam to emergency. Bear and I received a friendly greeting by Tia as soon as we entered. I was very pleased with the efficiency and quickness of the visit, even though I did not have an appointment. Dr. Torok (and Jessica) were thorough and explained what they were doing and why.
