Dr.Siwek helped our Finley cat when he was 6 years old. His ear hematoma surgery did not take and his ear filled with fluid again, the day after! The Vet said to bring him back for yet another surgery to fix it! This is a horrific surgery and recovery protocol. I am a lifelong resident of the 5th Ward in Evanston. This neighborhood is not known for Veterinary services and definitely not holistic practices. I was extremely excited when I got this as one of my assignments. I told all my coworkers how valuable this was for our community and how I couldn't wait to visit this establishment. I am the Commercial Business Representative at my insurance agency. My assignment this month was to identify Animal Hospitals prior to National Pet Day on 4/11 and learn about their business to later identify their insurance needs in the future. Again, when this one came up, I was extremely excited. I decided to give away our supply of portable pet bowls and highlight this business on our Facebook page this month. The day was gloomy, but I went out anyway. I arrived around 230, I approached the door, and it was locked. No biggie, I could see the pups were out having a great time therefore I politely waited for someone to come to the door. Someone finally came to the door; she opened the door slightly (to not let the pups out I assume) I asked, " Is this an animal hospital?" I was a bit confused I must admit when I saw several dogs running around, I thought maybe this could be a kennel, either way I was invested. The women who opened the door answered before I could complete my sentence, "yes" (very rudely) I mentioned I was from (my company's name) and before I could get that out completely, she interrupted again and said " I already have that company and SLAMMED THE DOOR IN MY FACE!!!! I was completely shocked and appalled. I am born and raised in this neighborhood, a former elected official of this community, I am the associate minister at the church a block away from here, THE ALDERMAN (who is a good friend of mine) lives upstairs and this is the way you respond to your community! I have never been treated so badly or felt so disrespected by a business in my life, wholeheartedly. I want to believe it's because when people see an insurance "salesperson" they automatically assume we are trying to "sale" insurance. You still shouldn't treat someone at your place of business this way. The other part of me is thinking which I would hate to believe is I was turned away because of my race (I'm an African American woman) either way, I am disturbed by this interaction so much that I had to write this. When my 15 year old dog fell lethargic after his routine vaccinations, I had some blood work done on him. It revealed that his liver enzymes were astronomically high; after that, an ultrasound showed a mass in his liver. I was devastated. His regular DVM (who I have the utmost respect for) told me to monitor his quality of life since surgery would be the only alternative (which isn't an option in my opinion for a senior). The next day I decided there had to be more I could do for my dog. My research gave me some insight on milk thistle and its ability to normalize the liver. From there I searched for a DVM who practices alternative medicine. God brought me to Kindred Spirits. Our initial visit with Dr S. was so thorough. She asked so many questions to learn about my dog's history and our goals. Dr S. also helped me make sense of his blood work and formalized a diet with supplements to give him the support he needs. This place is just amazing! I cannot express how grateful I am for Dr Siwek and her crew for healing my dog inside and out. To start, my Boston Terrier suffered from a debilitating food/environmental allergy. His allergy test showed over dozens of severe allergies to very common food ingredients such as peas and potato and common pollens. His allergy manifested in a form of severe skin breakdown from constant scratching and licking. Despite our attempts to change his diet and medications including weekly allergy shots, supplements and every antihistamine I can think of it did not seem to alleviate his itching. It got so severe that his entire body surface was covered in open sores and scabs. To top that off he developed a pinched nerve in his back that left him limping on one hind leg. I felt helpless. His vet recommended surgery but he's almost 10 years old and we didn't think he'll recover from another invasive surgery. That is when I remembered a recommendation to Kindred Spirit from a friend long ago. I decided to give it a try. Dr Siwek is well versed in both eastern and western medicine and she recommended putting him on antihistamine plus herbal medicines she compounded for his allergy and his back. She also recommended to see a chiropractor for his back. Everyone at the office are very kind and this place just puts you at ease. Within a month we noticed a drastic improvement in my dog's skin condition. He stopped scratching and licking almost completely and his skin started to heal. Just a suggestion: If the limited schedule and new patient policy prohibits any appointment availability for over a month, it would be helpful to note that on your vm greeting- especially when the office will be closed for several days. I called on a Friday & was told on Tuesday when I called back that they "were well into the month of September" before I could get my old pup in for treatment for myelopathy. The wasted four days could have been beneficial in finding acupuncture/laser treatment sooner had I known the situation. Another highly rated facility in Bucktown is able to accommodate us in a week. It may have been sooner had I called last week instead of waiting for KS to say no openings. I am informing my regular vet to take their very limited schedule and policy into consideration when making referrals. read more

This is a wonderful place. I took both of my senior cats with health issues here to see Dr. Share Siwek and she improved their lives greatly. Share is wise. I took my 13 year old Cavalier King Charles spaniel to Dr. Share because his vets had no idea how to handle his recurring pancreatitis and pretty much gave up on him and they are very good vets. She spent an hour with us, going over his history and began to develop a treatment plan. She developed a homemade food diet, since none of the prescription food worked. We were clients for several years. Although I have nothing bad to say about Dr. Siwek, I would NOT recommend her practice because of her staff. A word to the wise, ALWAYS request a receipt for your visit. We were very naive, agreed to not take a receipt (saving on paper and ink), and recently realized that errors were being made on dollar amounts (in their favor). The only time I did take a receipt was the last visit where I realized several days' later, when I looked at the receipt) that I was overcharged $86 (it was a bill of approximately $350). I notified them November 2, I still have not heard anything from them. We have left the practice. Dr. Siwek stated in an e-mail to us that she cannot meet our many expectations. She only works three days a week so be prepared to wait weeks for an appointment and long waits to see her (she consistently runs very late). I want the very best for my dogs and I do have certain expectations so they receive the best care that they deserve. read more
