Our Basset Hound boy, Hoss injured his back and our regular vet said that if we opted for surgery,…read moreit would cost us (STARTING) $10K and then the after-care (therapy, medication, etc.) would cost roughly another $15K. He is 9 1/2 and we REFUSED to make him live the rest of his life convalescing from back surgery. My wife researched who to go to for possible holistic treatments, and found Dr. Mullen and as it turns out, she happened to be at Kohn Animal Hospital. Let me start by saying that Dr. Mullen made a HUGE HUGE HUGE and let me say again, HUGE impact on our boy. She started with laser treatments, acupuncture and vitamin B shots at his acupuncture points. She worked with him and after one treatment, ONE TREATMENT, Hoss was acting like his old self. Wanting to run, play with his brother. We had to keep him calm so he wouldn't re-injure himself. Here we are, 4 months later, and he is still doing AMAZING. Dr. Mullen changed our boys life for the better and we couldn't be happier and more pleased with the unbelievable level of care that Dr. Mullen has provided. She shows just how much she cares for each patient. She sees Hoss, she melts to the floor and gives him rubs, hugs, kisses, and is overjoyed to see him. Her expertise and knowledge of the course of treatment that she has recommended and is doing has surpassed our expectations. We recommended Kohn/Dr. Mullen to a dear friend of ours that has a French Bulldog (so does Dr. Mullen) and she was able to diagnose and is in the process of treating his boy's allergies and they are FINALLY under control and his boy is so much happier than he ever was before Dr. Mullen's expertise. We LOVE Dr. Mullen and she is the best vet (besides our regular vet) that we have ever had the pleasure and trust to take our boy to. If our regular vet were to ever close its doors, Kohn and Dr. Mullen would be our number one choice. Dr. Mullen is now more than our Basset boys doctor, she is family to us and we hope to keep seeing her for a long time to come!

Dr.Wilson and his surgery team were absolutely wonderful. Everyone was kind, patient, and made sure my dog was comfortable every step of the way. You can tell they really love their jobs. It was very reasonable priced from the consultation, wound care, and follow up appointments; the estimate was as precise as they could have gotten. All that being said, the front desk can come off a little short or rushed, especially if you're not used to their process or what they expect you to know. Once you get passed the learning stage (different than a doctors office for humans) they truly are kind people. Where things fell short for me was with the oncology department. The experience felt impersonal, and the final bill didn't match the original estimated quote despite my dog having the basic surgery with no extra add ins or assistance. Labs were drawn without asking us (charged triple our local vet would have charged) and we were charged for an X-ray that wasn't done, which came across as money-driven, intentional or not. We did get compensated for the X-ray. Overall, I'd definitely recommend BluePearl of Northbrook for emergencies and for the General Surgery department, Dr. Wilson and his team are amazing! I'd look elsewhere for oncology care based on our experience.

This pet hospital, in my opinion, seems to care more about money than about the well-being of…read moreanimals. I went in for a tumor removal consultation, but the vet who saw my dog was unhelpful and simply repeated information I had already received from my regular veterinarian. Before even discussing treatment options, they insisted on $5,400 worth of tests -- and then informed me that the vet doesn't perform surgery anyway. I ended up paying $240 just to receive an estimate for tests, with no actual help provided. To make matters worse, my dog was bleeding from a skin tag he had scratched. When I asked if they could cauterize or treat it to stop the bleeding, the assistant told me, "We don't do that here," and the vet just applied gauze and pressure -- the same basic care I had already done at home. By the time I got to my car, my dog was bleeding again. I had to take him to another hospital that actually cared enough to help. Sadly, this place showed no compassion or urgency when my pet needed it most.

We had to make the decision to put him down as he was starting to have seizures and decline quickly. Mary, Countryside's manager, got us in quickly. It was a tough situation as I was flying back in from out of town. Having to do something like this with your beloved pet is so, so difficult. The staff at Countryside, from Naomi at the front desk, from the gentle care from Dr. Mary Hannah and to the love of Bruno from vet tech Chris, made what could have been the worst life experience much more bearable. They treated Bruno with so much love and respect. Dr. Hannah was SO kind in how she spoke to Bruno gently and lovingly. This was so calming and reassuring for me and Bruno. Chris held and hugged Bruno giving him little treats with tears in her eyes. Countryside REALLY loved my dog. I also can't forget to mention Dr. Malitz and all the other amazing stuff there. They literally have no turnover of staff which speaks volumes! I have had a rough couple of months and have sent countless emails and made many phone calls out of concern, and they were always kind, patient and helpful. Thank you Countryside for the incredible love and care you gave to Bruno.
