This review concerns the unprofessional and aggressive behavior of the office manager Cindy. I had arrived with a friend who is a longtime client of the practice with her aging dog who needs love and care. I had just washed my hands and went to the front desk to use the hand sanitizer, when the device malfunctioned. It was a simple issue. The nozzle did not function properly and when I used the pump, it shot a massive stream of alcohol mix into my eyes and face and completely down the front of my jacket and pants. The girl at the front desk was quite alarmed to see this happen to me and seemed very uncomfortable with the situation. I asked her for a tissue. She had to get some, so I looked elsewhere to get a wipe to get the mix off of my face and out of my eyes. It was soaking wet and I took photos to show how much covered me. I asked for the manager who apparently is the person who responds to these messages. "Cindy." She did not identify herself by name and was very aggressive. I could see that it was going to be one of those uncomfortable conversations. I calmly and firmly told her what had happened and showed her the massive 4 foot stream of alcohol up and down my clothing and where it had been in my face. She literally said it was working fine and pumped it out. I told her that I had cleaned the head of the device. Cindy was clearly not listening to my concern as I stood there covered in this mess. She was oblivious. She refused to listen or take any responsibility. It was going nowhere with this "manager" who was doing everything in her power to negate this messy incident. I simply told her that if this stain on the jacket did not come out, that I would be sending the bill to them ASAP. Cindy's response was very aggressive and she literally walked into my space and said: "calm down sir", then asked me to leave. I have enough life experience to recognize a passive aggressive individual who was clearly attempting to escalate the situation and ignore what had just occurred. I had to back away from her because she was within 2 feet or closer of me. She was VERY AGGRESSIVE. I stated that I would file a police report if necessary and that I would send the veterinarian business the bill. I am expecting nothing from this business and intend to file a complaint with the state board. If there is any further issue medically from the flying alcohol that hit my face and eyes, I will include that as well. This is exactly how not to treat people and Cindy was unqualified and ill-mannered in the delicate balance of dealing with simply business and life situations. I was never aggressive towards any of the staff and it was Cindy alone who escalated the situation from the start. I left the building realizing how unstable and dangerous her behavior was. She apparently blames others and attempts to turn responsibility on them for what she is incapable of handling. I simply told her that I would send the bill to them in a calm tone and she went into, "it never happened and you need to calm down mode." before the aggressive physical advance. Apparently she has little life experience to walk so close to someone she is telling to calm down. It is absolutely contrary to what is right. It was she that escalated this. I will file my state board complaint and move on. To those reading this; find another veterinarian business who has staff that are not aggressive and well versed in manners. Thank you. I've had a really positive experience with Fox Animal Hospital--I've been taking my animals there for over 15 years. The team is caring, knowledgeable, and always makes both me and my pet feel comfortable. Shout-out to Cindy, the office manager, who keeps everything running smoothly and always greets us with a smile. Whether it's a routine check-up with Dr.Lyons or something more serious, again, with Cindy and Dr. Lyons, they've always been attentive and clear about treatment options. And have assisted me through some very difficult decisions with compassion.The facility is clean, appointments run on time, and they clearly love animals. I definitely recommend them. read more

If you think a puppy little over 6 mos is too energetic, you have no business working at a vet's office. Granted, you are welcome to your opinion and it's the vet's prerogative to hire whomever they want, you just won't get my business and anyone else who asks me for my opinion. Now, on the actual checkup side, got fecal examination done, received a text that said all clear then a separate call saying my pup had roundworms. Which is it? If I'm paying 200-300 for a check up, I expect a certain level of professionalism: receptionist, miscommunication, not waiting to experience a trifecta of suckiness - looking for a new vet. read more

Our cat is getting older, has diabetes and a newly identified pancreatic problem. We've had a couple of pretty stressful months trying to keep track of her blood sugar, adjusting insulin, starting to give subcutaneous fluids, and worrying about her health and comfort. The vets and staff at Fox have been on top of the situation, available, responsive, and helping us problem-solve including in some pretty frustrating and worrisome moments. We are very grateful for their thorough, expert, and kind help with Clementine. Just last evening in a lengthy phone call, it was a big relief to hear the vet's validating and reassuring perspective, especially as we were about to leave for vacation. Between us, my wife and have cumulatively spent about 80 years in healthcare, which has given us a long and broad perspective on the best and worst kinds of providers. NEVER AGAIN will I ever bring my dearly loved pet to this practice. Been taking my two dogs here for over a year and I I had an asap appointment for my chihuahua who arrived in good condition and left absolutely miserable! I asked the tech for something to ease her pain and calm her down while I was pushed out the door and I got no answers! I drove home with a crying, shaking, in pain dog on my lap, called the office mid-trip and was on hold until I arrived home, had to turn around to take her back for a shot to give her relief over an inflamed vulva. Dr. Lempke saw her for five minutes and didn't come back into the treatment room to give me any information about what was going on with her and was not interested in answering any of my questions about what was wrong with her, I know NOTHING about her care and treatment, got no discharge instructions, NOTHING! I was sent home with a steroid and an antibiotic and a miserable little dog. SHAME ON YOU! $200 for totally crappy care! I have two beloved dogs and they are done at this establishment. read more

I have took my Pug to Dr. Hartzen for 13 years before she passed away this winter. I have NEVER SEEN SUCH A GENTLE, COMPASSIONATE Vet (and I have been to a lot of other animal hospitals in town). My Pug loved Dr. Hartzen's exam, which seemed like part through exam and part massage). He was always very cost-conscious in ordering tests. My Pug liked going to Fox Animal Hospital so much that if I just said Dr. Hartzen's name, she would get so excited and head toward the car! Also, she was terrible about having at her nails trimmed, but the techs always found ways to distract her (it seemed like a 3 person intervention: 1 to hold Fern, one to distract her and 1 to trim nails). In all the years they never gave up on her. They always really seemed happy to care about her welfare and that she have a stress-free experience. Also, since Dr. Fox has left, I have noticed that the exam rooms are immaculate, and phone staff is very helpful. We now have a new Pug puppy, and Dr. Hartzen was very honest about potential problems he noticed when we went for initial exam. He it truly an outstanding Vet!! And the practice as a whole is excellent. Additionally, Dr. Hartzen has a great referral network ( he is very picky about the Specialists he recommends), if your dog needs special services. We have been using Fox Animal Hospital since 2012 or 2013 for all of our pets. We have seen Dr. Fox but our vet at the practice is Dr. Jeanette Lyons. Dr. Lyons is so kind and gentle with my gang of active and sometimes feisty pets. All of the vet techs and receptionists are kind and gentle folks too. I had my senior cat to pass and I really saw how special the practice is not only with the pets but to the families that love the pets. I was just a mess at the loss of my cat and Dr. Lyons and the staff were wonderful with helping me make final arrangements (they gave me time to decide what to do as far as final arrangements) and they gave me wonderful respite care as a owner and I really appreciate it. They checked in on me and my family as we grieved our loss. Dr. Lyons and Fox Animal Hospital was excellent in helping with caring and managing my cat's illness. They addressed her nutritional needs and medications. The staff and doctors are very professional and knowledgeable about care of dogs and cats. My neighbors use Fox Animal Hospital too. The staff have gone above and beyond for me and my animals. I just moved to Evanston last year in 2023 and found them. They took on my three geriatric pets (2 cats, 1 dog). With 1 cat having renal disease and the other being diagnosed with cardiac disease not long after Fox started caring for them. In the haft a year that we have been going to Fox Animal Hospital I have felt welcome and always left fully informed of my pets care. Recently, 1 cat passed and I couldn't be more impressed with FAH and their staff as they cared for my cat and me during our final appointment. They were respectful of my last wishes as well. We really liked using this veterinary service. The docs were great and the staff was generally very nice. It is a bit on the pricier side and they wanted us to sedate our dog before bringing him in. Granted my dog is big and protective... but it did not make sense to me to have to sedate him 12 hours and then 4 hours prior to a visit... what if there was an emergency??? read more

Writing this on behalf of my parents who aren't yelpers as yet... My parents have been taking our family pup to see Dr. Fox ever since we adopted our dog Luce (or Baby Lu as we all call him), almost close to 17 years. I remember he used to be part of an animal hospital in Skokie or Wilmette and we've followed him here when he opened his animal hospital back in the '90's. My parents have a secondary house on the West Coast but they can't imagine leaving the Chicagoland area since Dr. Fox is great and the doctors that they've seen in other locales when traveling haven't compared. Dr. Fox is gentle and wonderful with our old little fellow who is still a puppy at heart from taking care of his teeth through the years to more recently helping keep these cysts that pop up on his body under control. He is patient when they've called with unexpected worries and has been able to get them for emergencies although his practice is busy. Just this morning they had to take Lu in for surgery to remove a cyst that was in danger of rupturing on his tail. It's always a difficult decision to take your dog especially older pup in for surgery but in Doctor Fox's capable hands it made it a little less unnerving. I've come to term that most of the north shore vets are completely out for the high prices and not so concerned about the animal... I'm now staying closer to home.. the staff is rude& never completely tell you what test they are runny to pad the bill.. I highly recommend oak elm animal hospital in deplanes.. my American cocker had a fast growing tumor& they were pushing a dental cleaning, well I didn't drop 180.00 for the vet to go on my dog's teeth.. went in for a tumor... long short , I took my pup to oak elm and 2 day's later my boy was in surgery having this fast growing tumor removed.. I appreciate a vet who wants the best for the animal.. the doctor did a fantastic job.. and jack is doing fantastic, plus they work with many Rescue's.. dog's who have aggression issues.. the over priced north shore vets don't do well, with rescue dog's.. just many doodles... not my cup of tea.. I have 3 Rescue's and having a vet who can handle aggressive dog's is a major plus... and open on Sunday's and will get you in ASAP if needed...good luck and you've been warned.. I have been bringing my kitty fur babies to Fox Animal Hospital in Evanston since 2014. My primary care doctor is Dr. Jeanette Lyons, and she is absolutely wonderful. She is my preference when scheduling appointments, but over the years I have seen every other doctor there at least once, and they have all been great. Patient, kind, caring, and showing genuine concern for the health of my cats. I have never once felt like I was being price-gouged or being forced to pay for unneeded services just to inflate the bill. The reception staff has always been very friendly and helpful as well. I am not one to write Yelp reviews, but since I think so highly of this business and their care and concern, I wanted to leave feedback. I am honestly quite shocked to see any negative reviews here, and they are NOT indicative of this veterinarian practice at all. Sick animals lead to stressful situations, which make people more inclined to write negative reviews because things may not be perfect in their eyes. Take them with a grain of salt. Finding a good vet is like finding your own human primary care doctor, dentist, or hair person, etc... and I'm very happy that Fox Animal Hospital is there to care for my animals. We have been going to Fox Animal Hospital for 8-years. We have a Wheaten Terrier (Ginger) who has some health issues. Doctors Lempka and Lyons are simple THE BEST vets. These talented vets have taken such good care of my pup. Her latest health crisis was handled by them with care, attention, thoughful approach for my pup and for me. They gave me detailed information to help Ginger get better. They listened to my concerns and helped me understand the health condition Ginger has and how to provide her with at home care. After a nail procedure which sent Ginger home in a foot bandage, the staff called me the next day to see how she was feeling - if she was eating etc. AND they showed me how to put her foot in an IV bag to keep it dry. They front office staff and techs are friendly, helpful and caring. They all seem to really like their patients. I've seen them giving Ginger some extra TLC and it means alot to this dog Mom. Highly recommend the team at Fox especially Dr.s Lempka and Lyons. read more

We had a sick cat this morning. We called Fox because we had taken our cats there in the past and they were the nearest vets when we first moved to the area. We take pretty good care of our cats (we've had two cats live to 17 and 19 years old respectively), but we don't make annual visits. Our cats are strictly indoor cats, mostly by their choice. So when we called Fox to see if we could get our cat in because she wasn't eating, we were told that they couldn't fit us in because it had been too long between visits for that cat and we were no longer considered regulars. Our other cat had a case of the sniffles last spring and we were also shamed then for not being more regular with out visits. If you can't call your vet when your pet is sick, they aren't your vet. So we are fine not being "regulars". read more

Dr. Fox has left for retirement and this facility has only gone downhill since then. We only brought our dog there to see him, and only him--- but now that he's gone, we will be moving our services elsewhere. Cons: (Minus one star) We've requested to see other doctors, but Dr. Jethani seems to be the only one available--reason being is that no one wants to see her. (We saw her last year) She is rough and insensitive to our little doggy, and I've heard stories from other dog owners as well. You can tell, she is not a dog person. (Minus one star) Changing heartworm medication every year. Why not keep it consistent--especially when you have a dog with allergies? Every year, we always get a new brand ( and it gets more and more expensive) (Minus one star) Speaking of expensive--wow, those prices are always hiking... (Minus one star) Not noticing issues until it's too late. My little doggy was slowly developing a black spot on his eyeball -- Dr. Jethani (last year) just said it was hyperpigmentation. We went for a second opinion and just found out its Pigmentary Keratitis-- this could have been prevented or at least slowed down if only the doctor paid attention. This is the best group of vets, ever! My last beloved dog was afraid of the lift table. The vets would actually sit on the floor to examine her. At the end of her life, they were so compassionate and caring, giving us guidance as to how to evaluate my dog's quality of life. I really love Fox Animal Hospital. Every time we go in we always leave with such a good feeling and it's such a pleasure to speak with the doc's. We've had the pleasure of meeting with Dr. Fox and Dr. Hartzen on several occasions for our pups and you can really tell they have such love for all animals. They're fun, funny and just intelligent, caring doctors. The staff is great also. We've had to call for advice (ie: dogs getting skunked or dog bites) and they've always been helpful over the phone without making us come in if not needed. I have been sending my dog to this vet since he was 6 weeks old (he's now 7 years old). I have been seeing Dr. Hartzen (and on occasion Dr. Fox) and just adore both of them. However, I did see Dr. Jethani on one occasion when my dog was having intestinal issues. Dr. Jethani basically told me in a very insensitive, patronizing way that there was nothing that she could do for him. I decided at that moment, that I would be certain to never plan a visit with her. I loved the facility and other two doctors. However, Dr. Hartzen is not there very often and I had an appointment scheduled for my dog today and they did not have it in their system. The only doctor available to see my dog was Dr. Jethani. I am now transferring the records to the Skokie Animal Hospital and crossing my fingers that this will work out better... read more

Fox Animal Hospital, run by Dr. Fox, was recommended to me by Animal 911, an after-hours clinic. I have a German Shepherd that has Mega-Esophagus, a condition of an enlarged esophagus, that can be fatal. Inoperable, but manageable for a long life. She needed to be spayed, but because of her current condition, it became a more delicate operation that could end up in Aspirant Pneumonia, a serious condition. I called Dr. Fox, and he spent many hours on the phone, internet, and contacting colleagues at the university vet level before he would consider doing it. Other "specialists" wanted over $1000 to START, but I ended up paying a small amount over the regular spay fee. Very reasonable! I was very impressed! We went in for the operation, and armed with the knowledge, was a complete success. His office is left, off Golf Road and Crawford in a little strip mall, and the office is very clean, bright, and well-staffed. We worked together as a team for my pup, and he's open to wholistic medicine, too! read more

I was sitting in my car, waiting for my dog to come out, and through the windshield I could just see into the building. One of the technicians was practically laying on the floor, giving my old dog gentle hugs and back scratches, and my sweet girl was loving it, wriggling around and wagging her tail in delight. Unfortunately I had an awful experience. I called in for an appointment- receptionist told me they had one that same day so I booked it. Although the receptionist was friendly, I cannot say the same for the vet: Dr. Jeanette Lyons. Upon entering, she says "we will have to split this visit into 2 because I don't have time" and that she "does not have time to fully assess" my dog. Not only is that unwelcoming, it is also unprofessional to say to a client. What makes her think I can afford 2 visits if I made the appointment for that same day? This here shows me she has no consideration for her clients, financially and timely. Also, if I bring my pet in I expect them to be fully assessed as it is only right. We brought my dog because she was limping after a grooming appointment. Lyons says that it the limping is "due to allergies". I am not a doctor, but I don't understand how limping could be due to allergies as it only began the day before after the grooming was done. When we asked again about the limping and how it could be due to allergies, Lyons says "I wish had a crystal ball", sarcasm. Not appreciated when I am worried about my pet and am here for medical expertise, paying for this visit. I did not agree to pay for sarcasm. I brought my dog here because this is where she usually goes, but as this was the first experience with Lyons, it was an unwelcome one and due to this, we will not be returning to Fox Animal Hospital again. Lyons charged us for the entire visit and it was not cheap, yet her work was half done and not worth what she charged us. It is disappointing to come in hoping for your pet to be cared for as we love them so much- only to be made feel that your pet and your preference to visit this place do not matter. read more

I took my cat there for ear problems- she hadn't been to a vet in years, and I thought she'd be a nightmare patient. Instead, a very calm, caring, and gentle Dr. Carolan took a lot of time just hanging with her, until she felt comfortable. Then she examined her, and within a short time diagnosed a bacterial infection in her ears. Cleaned her ears well for me, and applied the first medication- and my cat (a tortie with lots of tortitude) stayed calm the entire time. I will be returning to Fox, and particularly this vet, who I found amazing! read more

Dr. Hartzen is our dogs vet. He is good with our dog and the staff is friendly. We recently moved to the area and this is our first dog so don't have local options to compare to. I like that it's a small office and it's easy to get appointments. I'm hesitant to give them a 5 since compared to the vet I used to take my cat to in Minneapolis - they seem a little less approachable sometimes. Guess I just felt a little odd when I'd ask questions about what to watch out for and when to worry with a puppy- things he might get into or eat like twigs or chocolate. Can't nail down what it was the dr. said that made me feel like a dumb dog owner - maybe it was just a look he gave me. Could have been how I asked though too and me actually feeling a bit nervous about having a new puppy to care for and train. They neutered our puppy and microchipped him - he seemed to be fine afterwards and recovered quickly. Given the good service and convenient location to where we live we'll keep taking our dog to Fox Animal Hospital. read more

There was a time when the cat got sick and I demanded we go to a cheaper place, and we got what we paid for and ended up back at fox anyway. Save your time and money and just bring them here. I have been with Fox Animal Hospital since Dr Fox first opened the office. I have multiple dogs. All of the vets are friendly and knowledgable and willing to answer questions and discuss treatment options. Dr Stacey Lempka has gone above and beyond to work with my wonderful rehab vet - Dr Lisa Starr ( Pets In Balance) to ensure that my dogs receive the best coordinated care. And when I have had to put a dog to sleep, the entire staff was caring and provided me with time and understanding as I let my beloved dog go. They also made the situation as calming as possible for my dog. I trust them with my beloved animals. read more

We love Fox Animal Hospital and all of the vets that we have seen there. We primarily see both Dr. Hartzen and Dr. Lempka and have found them to be right on target with treatment and diagnosis. We foster abandoned labs and at one point this year found ourselves with 3 (our 2 house labs and 1 foster.) We discovered that the foster had a terminal heart issue and we eventually chose to euthanize him at Fox where we paid for the procedure even though the foster agency would have paid at another facility. This particular dog had some issues with anxiety and aggression and the vets at Fox were so patient and good with him. Dr. Lempka euthanized him and she couldn't have been kinder and gentler. We also got a second opinion on the foster dog's heart issue from Dr. Lempka and she was one of the few vets that was able to manage his anxiety and do a thorough exam. We have also seen Dr. Hartzen many times over the past few years for our house labs and he has been sensitive to the fact that we have to budget care for two dogs. Our dogs really like him. The facility seems to be clean and our overall experiences there have been good. I can't speak to cost comparisons with other vets but we have had to take one of our dogs to Veterinary Specialty Care in Buffalo Grove and I did find VSC to be more expensive than Fox with regard to X rays. read more

My pitbull mix Titan has been a patient at Fox animal Hospital since he was eight weeks old. As of this review he is now almost 4. I have had numerous services and procedures performed by Fox including neutering, as well as treatment for a skin allergy as well as his annual check up. I find Fox Animal Hospital to be a great place for my dog's needs. We started out as a patient of Dr. Fox whom has since retired. We have seen the various vets working there now and they are all knowledgeable. They will try to sell you medications which you can probably find cheaper on Amazon. But they are very open about that and will tell you that you don't have to buy the medicines from them in order for them to provide the prescription. Overall my dog and I are very happy with the services here. read more

They are a compassionate and caring group... on my initial visit with my pupster Baxter, Dr Hartzen took a long time getting to know Baxter and talking with me before starting in with his exam... putting both me and Baxter very much at ease. My dachshund, Stella has been a patient for 11 years. Dr. Fox saved her life when she was a puppy. He gave her IV's for a very severe GI parasite that she was born with and we didn't know about. Only once when Stella had a ruptured disk in her neck did we have to wait for a firm diagnosis and she was dx with a muscle strain, which later required surgery or she would be paralyzed, was I not 100% satisfied. Dr. Fox is her primary and Dr. Lyons very good. I did receive a phone call from Dr. Hartzen telling me that Stella was moving very slowly and that is why he thought it was just muscular. It is hard to tell with doxies. I think they are all nice and Tina, the receptionist is great. So kind. They charge a lot, but I think Stella gets wonderful care there. I recommend this Animal hospital to all my friends. Also, Dr. Lyons let us take as much time as we needed when Three of us had to put our recently deceased friend's dog down. She was so compassionate and let us hold and pet Rosie as long as we needed to. Such a wonderful person. read more

We've been taking our fur babies here since they opened and all we can say is they are the most caring as well as the best vets we've ever know.
