My wife and I had our tub re-enameled by Bornet Enamel over 15 years ago. Assume work, looked like new. recently a very small defect appeared. We called Bornet back, and it was fixed the next day, cannot tell where is was fixed. Absolutely assume work and craftsmanship. I held off on giving a review when the original work was done to see if it would last until the 5 year warranty. Lasted 3 times longer than the warranty. I will not be using anyone else as long as this company is around. I was a construction worker for 21 years, and I trust this small company. Prices are fare, not high, not cheap. STEPH JUDGEMENT: Still a quality, independent operation. Back in 2019, I wanted to put in new shower doors on my tub/shower, but I wasn't yet ready for a whole re-model, so I called up Bill to reglaze the tub and surrounding tile. As before, he did a great job--the tub looked as new as the shower doors. Fast forward to 2021, and I noticed some small cracks and peels around the drain area (seems like a fairly common problem). Like a dope, I'd forgotten about his warranty and tried to fix the problem myself with one of those paint-on enamel fixes but that didn't really do much. Luckily, I happened to re-visit this Yelp page and saw the thing about the warranty so I gave him a call and he came a few days later and fixed it for real--thanks Bill! I'll happily use him again AND not forget about the warranty next time should the occasion arise. read more

The actual reglazing job looks good overall so far, but... Agree with others that Bill seems like someone you can trust, but he was unbelievably careless and clumsy coming in and out with his equipment both times he visited us. We had just had our doors and paint done when he came the second time, and we asked him to please be careful, and still he slammed his equipment into one of the doors and created a long black streak. There was no apology and just a remark of, "Oh, I didn't scratch it; it just needs to be cleaned." I went to clean it right away, and it required lots of rubbing, and it removed the glossy finish. Now there is a long diagonal matte streak amidst the glossy surface of the rest of the door. Very unhappy with that. Also, he didn't let us know beforehand that we'd need our room vented overnight for the reglazing and that we'd have to make alternate sleeping arrangements. read more

The previous owner of our home used Bornet to redo our guest bath tub. Years later, it was coming up just a little bit around the caulking. I contacted the previous owner and asked who he had used in case it was still under warranty almost 5 yrs later. It was. Bill came out just 2 days after I contacted him and fixed the problem for free. And he was super nice to boot! It's easy to leave a good impression when you're getting paid. We really need it done! We had it done May 28th. And so far so good. Looks brand new and so bright. It is guaranteed for 5 years from chipping and peeling, so hopefully it will last for 5 years or they will come out and fix it for us. We are not too worried about it. It was clean nice job he did. He was polite as a person and left no mess afterward. We don't have any window in our bathroom so made us worry a little bit, but he brought his own ventilation system and when we came back home after a few days of vacation, the smell was totally gone. Bill came out and reglazed our tub recently. He did an outstanding job. It had been reglazed before and looked terrible since it was peeling and sometimes would clog the drain. After Bill was done it looked and felt amazing. He stripped the old coating to then apply his which he gives a 5 year warranty on. The warranty was a big deal for us since other companies we talked to offered less years. Bill was very easy to work with and friendly. I recently had my faucet face plates replaced and unfortunately, the finish around the face plates got damaged. I texted Bill pics of the damage for a quote, but he insisted he needed to come out to see it in person. When he arrived he told me it would be $150 to touch up. I was pretty shocked being that it was just a sliver of an area and the cost to reglaze the entire shower unit was just around $400. When I asked if he would do it for $100 he straight up told me because I live in Tustin, he's "not motivated to do it for anything less." I guess I have to respect him for his curt honestly, but you would think he'd show more appreciation for a customer whose 5 star review probably directed some business his way. I stand by my first review in that his work is solid, but don't expect him to show you any love if you're a return customer who doesn't live near Cypress. I ended up calling Kitchen and Bath Makeover. Javier quoted me a much more reasonable price over the phone, came out the same day, and did an amazing job. If you're in the Tustin/Irvine area I would definitely look into them first. read more

DONE RIGHT EVERY TIME! I found this company while searching for tub reglazers. His Yelp reviews were plentiful and glowing. I'm happy to add my own to that long list. I've used him 3 times over the past year. First, to refinish an antique cast iron Clawfoot bathtub. He helped carry the 400lb beast down a flight of stairs, took it to his workshop to do the work, and returned with a young, strong guy to carry it back up to the second floor. The tub is now beautiful! When we installed the hardware we nicked a couple of spots and he was happy to come back and do touch ups as part of his 5 year guarantee. Next, I had him reglaze a tub in a condo we rent out that looked like it needed more than just TLC after the last tenants moved out. In that case he didn't think it was bad enough to need chemical stripping before reglazing, just some sanding, which allowed him to quote me a slightly lower price. Turns out the glazing without stripping had some trouble spots (bubbling and a couple of sharp points near the drain) that he had to come back to rework. But he didn't charge any extra, and instead added a new drain ring and the ring that goes around where the shower pipe comes out of the wall, both of which were rusting and an eyesore. Last, we had a rusting spot in the bottom of another condo tub. In this case he gave it the full treatment of a chemical scrub and reglazing. He also added faucet and drain hardware throughout so that the shiny tub would have shiny hardware so it would all look fresh and new. In that case he did charge me for the hardware, but it was cheaper than if I'd bought it myself and hired a handyman to install it all. I'm happy to have all my tubs looking new again and feel it was all worth the price paid. To top it all off, Bill is just a naturally nice guy. read more

First time he just straight up forgot and the second time he contacted me 20 minutes AFTER he was suppose to be at my house saying he was running late....to me if you can't make and keep an appointment with a perspective client how serious are you going to be about getting the job done if hired? Wow, the bathtub looks GREAT! I found out about the Durokote product that is used to re-glaze bathtubs. I emailed the company that makes it to find a technician in my area. Bornet Enameling was at the top of the list and very near to where I live. I called Bill McCarthy, a contractor who works by himself. After I gave him a description of my tub, he gave me an approximate phone estimate (however, he needs to see the job before giving the true estimate). For just the bathtub that didn't require any special extra work it was $300 (Jan 2012). We scheduled the same week, he was on time, everything was as promised, and he cleaned up after the job. I can't believe how much better it looks! He really did a great job. Note that you will want to ventilate the area for 48 hours. Bill will come back, remove the masking, and do any final touches that you request. He replaced some of the tub hardware at an additional cost. I also requested that he re-caulk the stall shower in the other bathroom and the kitchen sink. Now everything is like new! Note that you will not be able to use any rubber mats, suction cup toys, or pads. Use only spray-on cleaners, nothing abrasive. So much easier now! read more
