I've dealt with Varun for over 4+ years, he's very talented at what he does. The suits are extremely well made from top notch materials, the finished product will easily beat any other department or custom tailor made clothes. There were some communication issues over the years have resulted in delays due to personal reasons in the past but Varun has more then made up for it I will be I will be using Varun for any future needs whether it be an adjustment or a new project, the craftsmanship is exceptional. read more

I had a bad experience with this business. Do not trust good reviews on this site. Varun offered me a free tailored shirt if I gave a 5 star review. Varun was late in every single appointment we had. One time he did not appear at all, with his assistant giving excuses like that he was stuck in traffic (it was 12pm). The clothes were OK, but not the quality fit you would expect for the price. Varun has left me in limbo for 1 year and 8 months. I placed an order with him on May of 2016 for one suit and a few shirts. He assured me that everything would be ready for me in 2 to 4 weeks. Those 2 to 4 weeks ended up turning into months and now almost 2 years. Every time I reached out to varun, it seemed as if he was having "personal problems". I have him the benefit of the doubt over and over again, and every time he never delivered. He promised to make me 2 suits for the trouble that I went through, however briefly after that he disappeared. He even went as far as saying that he would deliver my suits him self. That never happend. Every time he would give me an excuse, - whether it was the button shop, the dry cleaner or delivery man, nothing was ever delivered. He even went as far as giving me multiple phone numbers of a "delivery man". I called this delivery man's number to discover that the number didn't even work. I do not understand how he is still in business at this point. It does not make sense to me. I have been trying to reach out to him for the longest and he has not responded to any form of communication. I have gotten 2 suits made by other tailors since my interaction with Varun. Both times I received my suits in 4 weeks tops. I am beyond frustrated at this point. For anyone even considering to do business with him , I war and suggest you take your business elsewhere. Updating on my review below, hard to express in writing how disappointed I am with this business. **I REITERATE, DO NOT TRUST THIS BUSINESS OR THE VARIOUS EXCUSES YOU WILL HEAR FOR POOR SERVICE** I went to Born to Tailor in March 2017 to get a suit for my wedding (see timeline in my previous post below), which was this past weekend (9/16/17). The craftsmanship of the suit was horrible. The pants fit like parachutes on the back of the legs, and the seat of the pants and back of the jacket were incredibly tight. The worst of it was that the lapel of the jacket was faulty, and no matter how much you would press it, steam it, or iron it, it wouldn't sit down due to the way it was crafted. I took the suit to a highly recommended/reputable tailor (where my experience was excellent) who was shaking his head when I told him this was a $1,500+ "made to measure" suit. As a small business owner, I do not like leaving negative reviews, as I know they can be misleading, and potentially damaging to the business. However, my experience with Varun and BTT has been so exceptionally bad, that I have to inform others of this terrible experience. I am a personal stylist, and brought in my client to be measured for a custom French-cuff shirt on Feb. 3 2017. The initial meeting was great; everyone was professional, kind, and efficient. My client chose a fabric, was measured for her shirt, and we were on our way. She was asked to pay up front, which I did not find odd at the time for a custom job. We were told the shirt would be ready in less than four weeks. Six weeks later my client had still not received the shirt. I called and emailed Varun multiple times, leaving messages to no avail. I finally heard back after mentioning in my latest voicemail that I would be reporting him to the Better Business Bureau. Varun finally replied to an email stating he had had a personal issue, but was back at work now. While these things happen, there are always ways to communicate to clients after two months of silence so they know what is going on. After this email exchange, my client was finally sent the shirt. And it was the wrong shirt. I'm not kidding. After emailing Varun yet again to request a rush order and ETA on the correct shirt, we still have not heard back. My client paid for a shirt in February she has yet to receive with no correspondence telling us what's going on and when to expect. In summary, I have been in the fashion/clothing industry for 10 years, having dealt with businesses of all sizes and varieties, and I have never experienced something as unprofessional as this. I can only echo the repeated negative reviews on Varun's negative business practices. STAY AWAY! He's my story. I'll try to keep it short: After cancelling a few times on my initial appointment, I should've known to stay away; however, I still decided to purchase a suit and "custom" shirt or the price of $1742. Naively, I paid in full. At the time of purchase, I expressed the importance of having the suit ready for a wedding that was 2 months away. Varun guaranteed me that it would be ready way before the wedding date. Well as expected, the suit was not ready for the wedding. About 3 months later, when he said the suit was ready for a "first fitting, " he cancelled THREE appointments at the last minute. Afterward, he actually didn't even show up to his studio when we rescheduled again. As a working professional, I felt that his lack of respect for my time was completely unacceptable and unprofessional. I had had enough and at this point, I told him that I was working with my credit card company to credit me for this fraudulent business charge. As usual, he was very apologetic and came up with some BS excuse as to why he didn't show up to the meeting and at least notify me that wasn't going to make it. He promised me that he would get me the suit and that he "working on something special" to make up for all of the inconveniences. So about 4 months later, I actually got the suit. The suit was great quality and fit perfect. He did not deliver on anything "special," as he promised. When I actually wore custom shirt, I noticed that the shirt did not have my initials, as I had requested. I contacted Varun about this, and he told me he would give me a new shirt with my initials (as I initially paid for) and additional custom shirt to make up for the continued inconveniences. Since then, it's been over 6 months and I have not heard back from Varun despite sending him numerous emails and text messages. He literally does not even respond. It's a shame the way he does business. When your purchase his suits, he says it comes with a lifetime of free adjustments/tailoring. What good is that when you can't even get a hold of this slime ball? I can't believe this guy is still in business. STAY AWAY and go with someone reputable and accountable. read more

First - sort the reviews dated new on top, you will see all the 1/5 stars this business / Varun has received. I first visited Varun @ Born2Tailor in 2015, was quick to get an appointment. Bought a $1200 suit + shirt from him which was delivered on time. That's all the good thing I have to say. Since then, the suit threads have come out, numerous times, only to be told that since its custom hand sown, this can happen. The first time he fixed some of them, only the ones I pointed out, the rest were left alone. His team could have definitely done a better job in searching the suit for more loose threads and fixing them. I had a difficult time getting in touch with Varun, getting him to reply and setting up an appointment. The next time (2016) I reached out to Varun was to get the suit tailored, in the end the suit was tailored, no cost, but the turn around time was ~ 2 months with numerous back and forth communication on simple logistics. This last time (2017-2018), I wanted to get the suit tailored again, but Varun has just opted not to reply and when he does its months or weeks apart. He mentioned he has some personal problems, and for this I gave him time and did not ask for updates for couple months. Reached out again and he referenced same personal problems. He commits to calling or emailing as a follow up, but does not. Suffice to say, I won't be returning here again. Now I need to find some other tailor to alter and fix the suit. read more

My fiancee and I are getting married on September 4th. We initially googled places to have a bespoke suit made. Our first find was quite a disappointment, just gave us a weird vibe. Luckily, we opened up Yelp, scrolled down to "Other Men's Clothing Nearby", and found Born To Tailor's five stars. I have to say, every one of those five stars is HIGHLY well-deserved!!! Varun is not only extremely gifted at his craft and very professional, but he is also very amiable. He takes his time to get to know you better and what your lifestyle is like. We went for the second fitting and (as I like to tell my friends) Varun absolutely NAILED IT! There was no need for any changes. It was really rather uncanny how this 3-piece suit and shirt fit me like a glove, from the minute I put it on!! The five stars don't lie. Varun should be your ONLY choice when it comes to bespoke clothing. read more

A truly atrocious experience. It seems that many others had a similar experience to me, although perhaps I was lucky that anything was delivered to me at all. I ordered a custom 3-piece tuxedo and Marcella tuxedo shirt on September 1, 2016 for my wedding on November 26, 2016. I also spent hundreds of dollars extra on a special silk grosgrain for the lapel facings and supplied this to Varun. Varun assured me the final product after all fittings, would be done within 10 weeks. After numerous delays, with increasingly ridiculous excuses, I did receive my tuxedo a few days before the wedding. I thought the grosgrain looked different than what I supplied to Varun, but he assured me it was what I ordered. However, the tuxedo shirt was not at all what I ordered. It was a completely different type of fabric. Varun agreed to remake it, and did so, with a fabric that was still wrong, and didn't deliver it to me until the day before my wedding. Needless to say, this was a very stressful experience. Varun promised to make me a new shirt and a complimentary blazer to atone for this, but then repeatedly avoided making an appointment with me to discuss this and the concerns I had about the construction of the jacket. Since I was never able to discuss it with Varun, I took it upon myself to examine the construction of the jacket and discovered evidence that two of my suspicions were correct: 1) The jacket is NOT fully canvassed as we had agreed. It is half canvassed (in the chest only) with fusing on the front of the jacket. Varun had agreed in writing and you explicitly told me to my face that the jacket was fully canvassed. The promise of full canvas construction was an essential factor in my decision to commission the tuxedo from him, as opposed to the many other shops that offer half canvas construction in a similar price range. The promise of full canvas was also a key factor in my decision to spend additional hundreds of dollars on the silk grosgrain facing (more on that below). I was willing to spend the additional money on upgraded materials only because I thought I was adding those materials to a suit constructed in the best way, fully canvassed. This is flat out FRAUDULENT. Varun lied about a critical component of the suit in order to get me to buy it. It would be like a car salesman claiming a car has a v8 engine when it only has a v4. Even if I give Varun the benefit of the doubt (which, at this point, I don't) and assume he actually believed the suit was fully canvassed, but something got mixed up or lost in translation along the way at his workshop or from whoever physically assembled the suit, it is still completely unacceptable from the customer's perspective. 2) As I mentioned, I spent an additional several hundred dollars out-of-pocket on fine silk grosgrain for the lapel facings. Grosgrain is a ribbed silk. When I picked up my tuxedo I thought the silk didn't look quite as I expected. The silk was flatter and smoother than I expected, almost like a satin. I asked if it was the grosgrain, and Varun assured me it was. I asked if he had the original sample of the grosgrain I provided, because I wanted to compare it, but he said he had left it at your workshop or misplaced it. After acquiring another sample from the original source (Isles Textiles group) to compare, I realized what happened. The silk facings are indeed the material I purchased, but they were cut and attached facing the WRONG WAY! The ribbed facings are attached facing inside, while the flat back of the fabric is facing outwards. I confirmed this by looking at the inside breast and hip pockets on the jacket, where you can see the reverse side of the material is ribbed! The ribbed face is the one that is supposed to be exposed outward! This is a screw-up of epic proportions on Varun's part! He essentially wasted hundreds of dollars of precious grosgrain silk by sewing it on backwards, defeating the entire purpose of the style! To this point I had refrained from posting any reviews of my own about my bad experience, because I wanted to give Varun the benefit of the doubt and give him a chance to atone for the poor experience I've had. However, I now believe Varun is either a liar and a crook, or just incredibly incompetent. He strikes me as too smart and too knowledgeable to be that incompetent, so unfortunately I'm left suspecting the former is the case. He continues to ignore, avoid, or give non-answers to my emails attempting to resolve this. His stream of increasingly pathetic excuses is hard to take seriously after a while. To be fair, the fit of the tuxedo was pretty good, though not "perfect" as Varun repeatedly promised. However, the flat out lying and deception, plus the fraudulent products, are completely unacceptable. I've filed a complaint with Better Business Bureau. If that doesn't resolve the problem, I will pursue legal proceedings against him. read more

This review is overdue. Varun made me a suit for my wedding in August. The suit is just fantastic. The quality is impeccable and it fits like a glove. From the way the pants fit around my waist to the shirt he made, I don't think it could fit better. More importantly perhaps, Varun's help deciding the details, color (we went with the signature "f--- you blue"), what shoes and tie should go with it, etc., were invaluable. I showed up with a sort of vague idea of what I wanted, he listened and implemented it down to sock choices and it came out better than I could have imagined. When I look at the pictures from the wedding, in each and every one of them, from every angle, that suit makes me look like a glorious strutting peacock in the prime of his shimmering masculinity. This is not my first custom suit but it is the nicest one I've had and I think the price was eminently reasonable. I've gotten a few custom suits and shirts over the years and my experience with Varun at Born To Tailor has blown all the others away! The fabric selection is incredibly extensive and Varun really puts the effort to work with you to find what you're looking for. There's no pressure to up-sell you and while the price for a suit / shirt is not cheap, it's well worth the quality and craftsmanship. After a measuring appointment with Varun, he told me my bespoke items would be ready in two weeks. I reluctantly paid 100% up front, which he claims is his non-negotiable policy. Months passed with no contact from him. I left many voice mails. Nothing. I disputed the charges with AMEX, but after their investigation they informed me that Varun told them the items I ordered were delivered and the dispute was resolved in his favor. With thousands of dollars at stake, I got back to AMEX and escalated the issue to a supervisor. After another month, additional lengthy documentation and an interview, AMEX secured a refund for me. I was so fortunate to have used my AMEX card. They are a stand up organization. After learning such a harsh lesson, I will never go with a sole proprietor again, and also NEVER pay 100% up front. It's a shame that Varun created such a negative image for small business. If you need bespoke clothing, there are a number of reputable companies in Manhattan that charge the same amount as Varun. I went to one of them, was treated superbly, appropriately charged 50% up front, had multiple careful fitting sessions, and my items were delivered on time and were of outstanding quality. I see I'm not the only one who was treated so horrendously by Varun. If after reading these reviews you STILL want to go to him, I would strongly recommend NOT paying 100% up front so that you have a leg to stand on if there is a problem. read more

I will be echoing thoughts similar to some of the more recent reviews. Me and my wife ordered 2 suits from Varun in fall last year. Varun, the owner, seemed nice and we had a pleasant first experience. He took measurements and promised to call us back for fitting after ~4 weeks. But even after several months, we were still waiting. Varun completely disappeared towards the end of the year. We wrote several emails to him, but there was a complete radio silence from his side. I then called Amex and asked them to block the transaction - this was ~ 3 months after ordering the suits. Immediately after we blocked the payment, we received an email from Varun. He apologized and cited some personal reasons. He seemed genuine, and we decided to give him another chance. Soon after we had our fitting session and he promised to deliver our suits 1 week later. But 1 week later, we did not hear from him - we did not hear from him even 2 weeks later - in fact we never heard from him again. My emails again went unanswered. It was time for me to give up. This was 4-5 months after we ordered our suits I can empathize and totally understand if Varun is going through a difficult time, I am ready to give him a benefit of doubt for this. But for me deal breaker was Varun telling Amex that dispute has been resolved between us, without ever taking me in confidence or showing any intentions to deliver the suits. This was completely unethical and probably illegal. I have nothing to say about his craftsmanship, because I never received the suits. I must start this by saying I am typically not inclined to write a poor review anytime something does not go ideally. However, in my recent experience with Varun at Born To Tailor, I am compelled to share this, in the hopes that it will be helpful to others, and a response from Varun himself would be fantastic also. I previously purchased some custom shirts from Varun through a living social deal. After meeting with Varun and being impressed with his business and quality of work, I decided to purchase two suits as well. Recently, the inner underarmst of one of the suit coats become torn. Since Varun mentioned back when I purchased them that I am a customer of his, I could bring anything he makes back to him at anytime for necessary repairs/alterations. After a number of pushes and reschedules from him, we were finally able to meet on January 26th when I dropped off my suit coat and 2 shirts which needed to be altered. Varun advised that all would be ready by the following Thursday, February 2nd. Varun responded that day that they are working on my jacket, and will be back to me as soon as he gets to the workshop that evening (February 2nd). He never got back to me. I emailed again on February 3rd, 7th, 8th, and most recently the 14th, all to no avail - no response from Varun. I tried calling him on February 17th, and of course he did not answer so I left a voicemail letting him know frankly how disrespectful it is of him to ignore a customer, and to just blatantly not respond to any of my outreach is just poor. The bad part of this all is Varun is a nice guy and says he wants to make things right and will do anything to make his customers happy, but unfortunately what he says and what he does are two very different things. Varun - if you are reading this, I just want my suit coat and shirts back, and to be able to move on. It is unfortunate that this is an acceptable business practice to him and he is ok treating his customer like this. Looking good is all about the attention to details! Born to Tailor knows how to capture those details that will take anyone's breath away. The feeling is like that scene in Bad Boys 2 where Will Smith comes out and says don't hate the player hate the game and Martin Lawrence says "I hate the tailor" lol Varun is just that amazing that people will envy you when you put on your suit. The attention to detail is just amazing there is not one corner cut or anything out of place. I'm a heavier set guy so for me finding a suit that is suitable (pun intended) is damn near impossible. However after this experience I don't have to worry anymore. Though I impatiently waited lol ( who doesn't get impatient for something new) it was well worth the wait. I was so happy with the first 2 suits I bought, I decided to get 2 more. Varun showed me some new fabric and made excellent recommendations. I was indecisive about the fabric for the 2nd suit so I let Varun choose. Something I wouldn't normal consider. The style and fabric he chose were perfect for me and well worth the price, which is more than reasonable for a custom made suit. Once again, I was extremely pleased with the quality of the fabric and impressed with how well the suits fit. When you shop for most clothes, it's uncomfortable. People don't really notice, listen and basically only hear what they want. Born to tailor as business is like seeing a long time friend who, welcomes you to his home, understands what you need, and creates your ideas. Quality and keeping promises is what sets Varun and BTT apart from most shops. I initially went in for a few shirts, to try it out, but his insights, ability, and style made the suit and shirts more worthwhile. From the variety of fabrics, styles and patterns to the insights on which shirts accentuate a suit. My measurements were correct. My shirt and some of my additional requests were made exceptionally. My suit fits like a glove. If you're in the market for a new suit, don't but off the rack, and "hope" it fits or adjust yourself to the suit. Rather, get a suit that is made for you, by someone who takes the time and attention to deliver what you want. read more

Similar to many other recent reviews, my experience with Varun was beyond horrible. The customer service was the worst I have experienced in any form of "professional" engagement. I cannot comprehend how someone can run a business this way, personal issues notwithstanding. Be honest Varun - any of us would give you the benefit of the doubt - but lying (badly, blatantly and repeatedly) removes one's willingness to continually be understanding. In addition to Varun disappearing for weeks and months on end (this seems to be a pretty common theme among posters), I heard excuses from Varun including "the messenger lost your suits - we have to re-make them", "the messenger delivered your clothes to the wrong address and I can't get them from the doorman until my other client comes home", "I had a bad allergic reaction and look like a monster", "...dental emergency..." , "....still stuck on Long Island..." "I lost my phone" and my all time favorite text received at 4:40 PM on a day I had an appointment at 5:00 PM - after chasing him literally for 2 months after being assured that "everything is ready" (extra pants I had ordered for several suits) - "....I've had fever all day and I'd like to get home early". I had no fewer than 6 appointments cancelled or missed and probably 100 texts and emails ignored. A businessman actually cancels an appointment 20 minutes prior when a client has been trying to pick up items that were allegedly ready for over a month? I should have run the other way when it took 4 months to get my first suits - one of which I cannot wear because the jacket is way too tight, bunches up in the back and looks like an off the rack piece of junk. Chalk that up to a bad first fitting I guess.... Like others, I was also promised blazers, shirts and suits to make up for the inconvenience to which I had been subjected (I don't have an issue with the failure to deliver the items because I didn't pay for them), but they never materialized (Shocking!) Alas, I am the fool for actually believing that Varun is serious about his business and giving him second chance after second chance. After my most recent disappointment, I texted Varun and let him know I did not appreciate being treated this way after spending in excess of $10k with him and was forced to take my business elsewhere. You can guess the response - an immediate text from Varun apologizing and promising to make me 2 suits at no charge for all of the inconvenience and disappointment. Needless to say, that is the last time I ever heard from him! Spare yourself the pain and go elsewhere. As I said to Varun, going through the process of purchasing bespoke suits should be a pleasure - something that is exciting and empowering. It should not be a process filled with anxiety, deceit and callous disregard for the innate desire to forgive that is part of the human spirit. DO NOT GIVE THIS MAN YOUR MONEY! After reading some of the other reviews, I feel like even more of a fool for doing business with Varun because he pulled the same stunts on so many other clients. I went to Alan David Custom which provided first class and timely service and delivered EXACTLY what I wanted ON TIME and with NO HASSLES, no lies and no patronizing offers to make things right!!!! read more

By far, the best suit I ever had. Everything is perfect. I've had custom suits before, but this one takes the cake. The fabric feels top notch, very durable. The fitting is top notch, and the look is top notch. I personally, have no plans on buying suits anywhere else. Varun (the boss) is the guy you will deal with. He is a fashion guru. The best part about Varun and Born to Tailor is that he always makes himself available to you based on your schedule and needs. I first met up with Varun on a Sunday afternoon, when he was busy meeting other clients as well. He's very casual and extremely easy to work with-- he doesn't unnecessarily push more expensive material to you and has clearly done this for awhile to know what direction the client would like to take the suit style and feel. Here's what I have to say about the suit I purchased from Varun last month-- it's fantastic. The cut is stylish. The material is sleek and durable. He's got a good eye (as he should) for what looks good and what doesn't, and will recommend better ways to tailor the suit to your needs. Varun is an absolute boss. He is not just a tailor he advises you on what is fashionable and what is trendy. When you are spending the money to have a bespoke piece made you better make damn sure you look good and are wearing what is in fashion. Varun's insights will help considerably with that. Received both my suits yesterday, after wearing them I feel like the last 10 years of wearing off-the-rack suits are truly lost years. Varun is amazing. I had to get a suit for my wedding,so took a leap of faith of having it tailored. Varun helped me through the whole process suggesting the pros and cons of suit making process. He took my measurements and got it right in the first try. The suit was tailored to fit,and I was amazed by his professionalism. In the end I got a suit which everyone were raving about. Suit was characterized as a full floating canvas. As others have noted that some threads came out and able to see that clearly fused in the front of the jacket. Still fits very well, but clearly not what I wanted - should have known better. Any follow-up emails have been completely ignored and quite frankly I have better use of my time than heading to small claims court. read more

I think it is important to give great service DURING the interaction, not as a way to cover up a bad experience/ review. During our entire purchasing experience, from the hasty appointment to all the miss calls we gave you and emails we sent you trying to track our shirts (because it was a month and a half later and we haven't heard from you at all), you never mentioned to compensate us like you did after I posted this review. Finally after many attempts he finally responded and just sounded like he completely forgot about it and said he will TRY to ship it out next week. Honestly, I felt like I had to nag him to deliver things we paid for and service he promised. How were the shirts? Being completely honest, the shirts were pretty standard, there are so many bespoke places like this in NYC and all deliver similar quality. A bit about me: - I have an atypical body, as I powerlift, so these days, only bespoke suits fit me and my 22" biceps, which grew partly thanks to protein shakes prepared with a Ben & Jerry's base and paired with liberal bites of Krispy Kreme doughnuts (bespoke suits are truly custom made; a pattern is made specifically to fit your body, and that pattern is used to build your suit, while made-to-measure / MTM suits are built based on the tailor's template patterns, selected per your measurements) - I have some experience with bespoke and MTM tailors, and off-the-rack suits, having worked with multiple bespoke and MTM tailors in the US and overseas, in addition to having 20+ designer suits selected by (don't laugh) three "personal shoppers" (i.e., family/friends who work in luxury men's retail who let me mooch off of their employee discounts on the condition that THEY pick the clothes, since they're obnoxious fashionistas who refuse to let me dress like the complete tool that I am) A bit about bespoke and MTM tailors in NYC: - The vast majority of tailors in NYC are MTM, and not bespoke - While bespoke shops tend to get better reviews/ratings than MTM shops, they ALL still screw up occasionally - just check the Yelp reviews and read about all the folks who went to a bespoke/MTM shop, dropped a bunch of cash, and left miserable with an ill-fitting suit - I was looking to get a new suit made, and after researching pretty much all the bespoke / MTM shops in the NYC area, I realized that Born to Tailor was the ONLY tailor that had nothing lower than a 5-star rating - intrigued, I went to check out the shop and met the head tailor and owner, Varun A bit about Varun: - Let me cut to the chase: Varun is the best tailor I've worked with over the past 25 years - I ordered a suit and a shirt from him, and they were the best fitting clothes I had ever worn in my entire life, so much so that I immediately ordered a bunch more, all of which fit perfectly -- like they were designed, tailored, and fitted with divine intervention - The keys to why Varun's suits will fit you better than anything out there are: 1) Varun went to Parsons and actually learned the science of clothes, fit, and tailoring 2) Varun is crazy meticulous and an absolute perfectionist; he will not let you leave his shop until your clothes fit you marvelously and you are absolutely thrilled with your threads 3) Varun flies to Italy regularly and only gets the best fabrics (which he also buys in bulk, and he passes off the savings to you) - In addition to his tailoring wizardry, Varun is just an absolutely wonderful human being -- he's a great guy, humble, down-to-earth, a delight to work with, and you can see how much he wants to help you get clothes that make you happy - Go see Varun: I guarantee that you will love the clothes and the experience of working with him (there IS a reason why so many athletes and celebrities work with him) read more

I am incredibly pleased with my experience with Varun. He is a gentlemen, and a true professional. Unfortunately, in today's climate, there are too many business people who provide the consumer inferior merchandise and service that is sub- standard. Varun's philosophy is that the customer must be thrilled with their merchandise. He was most expeditious in responding to my e- mails whenever I had a question and always was as pleasant as could be. I was highly impressed when I first met with Varun, at his Born To Tailor office. It was apparent to me that his knowledge and passion for quality is beyond comparison . I related I was interested in two suits. After patiently discussing my tastes and observing what I was wearing, Varun rendered his recommendations. The options offered are vast. I made my selections and now that I have the suits, could not be more pleased. All of Varun's garments are made in NY City. The final products turned out to be precisely what I wanted. The workmanship is excellent. Remember, as opposed to purchasing off the rack, these bespoke suits are made for you. Every detail such as the lining, buttons etc, are your choices and your specifications. The pricing is eminently fair and in many instances not as costly as a store bought suit. I ordered a suit back in October and still have yet to receive it. I have emailed, texted, and called many times. Majority of the time I do not get a response. On the rare occasion he responds its with a promise of a follow-up that never happens or some sort of personal excuse as to why the suit has not arrived. A bit of background on me: I was looking for an all purpose, custom made suit for my upcoming wedding as well as future use in a business work setting. It was also my first experience in buying a bespoke suit after years of going with average looking off-the-rack suits. I will look to breakdown my great experience with Varun / Born to Tailor as follows: Personal attention: My request for an initial appointment was rather short-noticed (same week) but Varun was able to accommodate and meet with me during late hour on a Friday. The appointments are all one-on-one so all of the attention will be on what your needs are. The initial meeting was very personable and involved a good amount of information gathering. Varun took detailed notes and was able to present multiple ideas and directions for us to work from. There was no pressuring, no rush, and no over-selling of any sort which made the experience very pleasant, which in return made my decision to work with Varun an easy one. Style / Measurements: This is where Varun's background in fashion truly shines. The number of measurements taken was eye-opening because it accounted for many angles and body factors that most people are unaware of. Style and fabric recommendations were very constructive to help you avoid quick fads and unfitting gimmicks. Varun will really drill down to the tiny details and work with you to built a stylish suit that will stand the test of time. The finished product was probably one of the most comfortable and best looking piece of clothing I have ever worn. Price: In comparison to the average price tag of most name brand, mass produced, off-the-rack suits that can easily range anywhere from $300 - $900 (not including any cost of additional tailoring), the price options offered by Born to Tailor is highly reasonable and can easily fit the budgets of most working class folks. Most importantly, you will end up with a suit that was made to fit only your body, and you won't have to live with the small imperfections that come with off-the-rack suits. Response time: Varun is very responsive to all inquiries by phone or email. The turnaround time for making the suit was very impressive between the initial measurement, first fitting, and second / final fitting. My first fitting and second fitting happened to coincide with the NBA draft, which makes Varun's busy schedule even more hectic due to that he also tailors suits for many of the draft prospects. Despite the logjam of schedule and large workload, Varun still managed to get back to me on time without sacrificing any quality, This just shows that all customers are treated as equals regardless of the level of their business, the level of personal attention and service were truly impressive and (in my opinion) really makes Varun / Born to Tailor standout. All in all, the Born to Tailor brand is true to its name, Varun is a true professional and a talented artist. Worst experience ever. Please listen to all these reviews. I had ordered two custom suits, after 18 months, I finally got them. They fit terribly. He said he will have them fixed within a couple of days. I let him take one since I didn't trust him. The other I paid $150 to alter. It's been 2 months, he doesn't respond to emails or texts or calls. If he happens to pick up he claims the suits have been fedexed, and will be there in 24 hrs. Oh yea and just like everyone else he claims he will give 5 new shirts and a free suit. Terrible person, always gives a sob story. AVOID at all costs. I went to several other places but I quickly realized they're just a bunch of salesman who just want to take you on a run for your money. Varun actually has a background and degree in fashion. He knows what he's doing and you will understand that better when you sit down with him. Born to tailor is a brand like no other and it's purely because of Varun's passion towards the business.
