He has an odd shape so off-the-rack really can't be altered easily. Naturally, the quality is very high. Part of the point is the experience which is nice. The value is An interesting question. They ruined a new jacket I had taken in to shorten the sleeves. The sleeves had a zipper so I knew it wasn't going to be an easy alteration but they said no problem. Instead of doing it properly/professionally she just tucked the extra material inside and sawed it up. I paid $38 for such an unprofessional sewing job. Should have asked for my money back at least! My dad was an excellent tailor so I know a good job when I see one. This is just terrible. read more

I'd leave no stars if I could. they completely ruined an extremely expensive dress for my wife. not only did they ruin it, but the tried to blame it on my wife's measurements. During the initial sizing or whatever, the lead seamstress' husband put my wife on FaceTime with someone and was laughing about it. They told us not to worry because they wouldn't charge extra when my wife told them to fix it. They took way too much strap off of the dress, did not fix any of the main points my wife pointed out to them. The worst part is they are ridiculously overpriced and you will Not get your money worth of work done. If I had it my way, I'd burn their business to the ground harder than they are doing it themselves. this is what happens when you trust unprofessional and childish people. read more

Unfortunately I came away disappointed from my only experience with this business. I brought in two curtain panels to have shortened to a specific length. Nothing fancy or special, just one simple even-length hem. Common sense would suggest that upon completion you remeasure them to ensure you did the job right. You might even compare them to one another to be sure they are the same length. Needless to say that after waiting two weeks my curtains aren't even the same length. There is a good 1.25" difference in length where they come together side by side. I really expected better quality and attention to detail based on other reviews here, as well as the beautiful suits and dress shirts they make. The woman was kind though. Sadly that is the best I have to say for my $30 gone to waste. read more

Okay, I posted a question on the yelp talk pages asking for advice on tailors in town, and a few people recommended Boris. Some others recommended someone in Grandview. After reading the reviews, it sounded like Boris would probably cost me a little more, but the work would be of better quality. Quality isn't a huge concern if you're just getting some jeans hemmed, but for a tuxedo, you want the good stuff. So I opted for Boris. And I am glad that I did. Yes, it was costly. I spent roughly $125 getting a tuxedo that cost me $50 at a thrift store tailored to fit. But believe you me, it was worth every penny. The tuxedo was a close fit already, or I wouldn't have purchased it, but the jacket definitely needed taken in a bit. This has been a while back, so I unfortunately can't recall the exact things discussed, but while doing measurements and pinning the jacket, Boris explained all the reasons that such and such needed done, and how the tux should properly fit, etc. He made me feel important, and gave me a fashion lesson at the same time. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to receive the same super-quick turnaround others mention because Boris and Marika were going on a two-week vacation the day after I visited the shop. But good for them; when I returned to pick up the tux, it fit perfectly without any visible signs of alteration, and the first time I wore it out, I looked like a million bucks. FYI, they do completely tailored dress shirts here, so if you can afford that sort of thing, this should definitely be your spot. Looking into the back and along the racks up front, it looks like they're doing pretty darn good business. read more

Boris Custom Tailoring made me feel like a million bucks! I had to buy a suit recently, and I only had a couple of days to get it altered. Normally my go-to tailor is The Golden Needle, but they were on one of their month-long breaks! I found Boris (because of Yelp!), and I could not be happier with the service! I explained to the owner about my rush, and she assured me I would get my suit in time. She measured me for a perfect fit, and she was so focused on all the little details. I can't recommend Boris and his wife enough. While the work on my suit was unquestionably stellar, this actually isn't the sole reason why I would recommend Boris over anyone else in Columbus. After dropping off my suit in the Fall, I unexpectedly had to leave the state for the Winter and Spring. In my experience, tailors aren't particularly interested in holding completed projects much longer than a month. I was worried because I knew I would be away for about 6 months. After calling Boris, he and his wife were more than understanding and held my suit for me until I could return and pick it up. I tried it on and it fit perfectly, although they offered to still make any adjustments. So, while the work they do is fantastic, they are also genuinely kind and helpful people. Even if there are closer tailors to your side of town, you can't go wrong with Boris. read more

Well, here's the story, my cousin got married last Saturday. I had to wear a suit since it was a formal event. I got out my suit, but it didn't fit anymore since I lost some weight (yay me.) So I come in on Thursday morning and tell them my predicament. Took some measurements, and told me to come back Friday after 5. I did as I was told, and my suit was ready to go. The reason why I give 4 instead of 5 stars is because it cost me $136 with tax. I don't know if that's a rip-off or a great deal, because I seldom have had anything tailored, but it seems steep to me. Way cheaper than a new suit though. Also, while my suit looked nice, it fit a little too tight in the shoulders. Perhaps that's just his style, to make your guns look bigger or something. I don't know. read more

Great experience! I had a rather expensive North Face jacket with a broken zipper. Boris was on my errand route, so I decided to see if they could fix it. Well, as soon as I walked in, I thought I had the wrong place, because these guys are clearly top flight tailors. This is where you come if you want custom suits and shirts made. Very, very nice clothing. But the woman who helped me was wonderful. She took a look at my jacket and gave me a clear run down of the costs to fix it depending on what was wrong. The jacket was fixed quickly, and the cost was very fair. Absolutely will use Boris again. read more

In preparation for my cousin's wedding, I realized I needed the straps of my dress shortened. When searching for a tailor, I consulted Yelp. I was directed to Boris' and decided to check it out. With my dress in hand, I walked into the store and was immediately ushered into the dressing room. The woman, I believe it was the owner, whipped out her pins and began adjusting my straps. We tried several different lengths before making my decision. She marked it up with chalk and I was out of the store within fifteen minutes after paying. I didn't actually try my dress on until the day of the wedding. I was a bit surprised that the length was still a bit longer than I had expected. I blame myself somewhat since I wanted to be conservative and not make a drastic change. The dress did look great at the wedding, but I was a bit surprised with the price to alter the straps. There was a long lead time and it was a simple alteration. I believe the price was $30 or so. Not sure if I'll return when I need another alteration. read more

I had a fantastic experience with Boris and his wife, Marika! With my wedding around the corner and a disdain for the tux rental industry, I wanted to have a great suit that fit me perfectly. I found a great deal on an Ermenegildo Zegna OTR suit, and took it to Boris immediately. The shoulders of the jacket fit me OTR, but the waist needed taken in, and the sleeves needed shortened. I also wanted to have surgeon cuffs, or functional button holes, and Boris is one of the only people in Columbus that can do this properly (and he does it by hand). Boris took my measurements and noticed that my shoulders slope such that there was a little bit of extra material in the shoulders of the suit. He showed me the affects of this in the mirror. Otherwise, the alterations were pretty standard. But I was very impressed with his attention to detail. They get a ton of business (for good reason) so I told them when I needed the suit done. Admittedly, I told them a couple weeks before the actual wedding to leave time for additional alterations if it wasn't quite right the first time. They also told me that they were going on vacation, so they actually finished the suit even earlier. I went to pick it up, tried it on, and it fit perfectly the first time. No additional alterations necessary. I even took it home and tried it on again the next day to make sure. It fits like a glove. A very comfortable glove. It doesn't even feel like I'm wearing a suit. There is a noticeable difference between the work Boris and Marika do compared to department store tailors. Not only that, they have been here 30+ years and are very nice people. So you can feel more than comfortable trusting them with your most expensive clothes, and you can feel good about supporting good people and local business. They can also make you MTM shirts and suits with fantastic cottons and wool from all over the world. I highly highly recommend their work! read more

I've lost over 25 pounds since January & as a result, none of my clothes fit! I didn't want to spend the money for new suits for work, so I thought I'd just get them tailored. My jackets fit alright, so I went to Boris' armed with three pairs of pants and a skirt. The woman was very nice and worked quickly to mark what needed to be taken in. I was a little surprised at the total ($140), but figured that was cheaper than buying three new suits. I went a few weeks later & picked up my suits. I was excited to have clothes that fit again, so imagine my dismay when they did not! I assumed a tailor would know to alter the entire pant, not just the waistline. Now my suit pants that couldn't stay up before can stay up, but they're still huge in the thighs (think hammer pants) and baggy in the butt too. My skirt fits good enough, but the pockets are now unuseably small. In the end I still have no fitting suit pants and lost $140. I'd still come here if I was having something minor done like a hem, but they're not miracle workers! read more

I wholeheartedly endorse this place. I needed the sleeves altered on one of my sport coats and Marika was very helpful and went to great lengths to make sure things measured correctly. I got some jeans hemmed at Boris' this summer. They did a great job on them, so I took a skirt to them today, which needed the hem line restitched. Despite an obviously large workload in the back, she took the skirt and told she could do it in a couple of minutes. She even ironed it for me. When she brought it back to me, she told me it would be only a few dollars. I tried to hand her a twenty, but instead of making change, she just told me it was on the house! They were nice but only sewed two seams on my husband's pants and the seams came undone in only months with limited wear so we now have to pay to take them to someone else. We were later informed that the pant cuffs should have been hemmed all around rather than only in part, which is why they did not last. This was very disappointing. read more
