The mofongo is so savory! Loved the rice con Longaniza. Coffee on point. A gem of a place. Definitely coming back.

Family owned | great food, great prices My husband found this place and he was craving Puerto Rican food. We used to eat at this place in Santa Rosa, so he searched and found a recommended restaurant in Beaverton, Boriken! Happy we stopped by to check this place out. They are family owned and celebrating their 10th anniversary -- woo! I like the interior. It's bright and decorated with a tropical island feel reflecting the culture. The walls have photos of the family and history. I like places like this. Their menu is easy to navigate and not overwhelming for a first time diner. I ordered a plate with yellow rice and chicken, beans, and plantains. I was indecisive with sweet or fried plantains, so the waiter suggested I do both. My 6yr old ordered a small side of sweet plantains and a small side of cornmeal sticks. My husband had the small mofongo. I loved what I had. It was very filling too! Sweet plantains are SO good and the fried plantains are delicious as well. I loved that they weren't oily and had a good crisp to it. My daughter ended up wanting my fried plantain even though she really enjoyed the sweet version too. She likes this place. My husband devoured the mofongo. I may get that next time too. We tried their vinegar sauce on the table and it tastes pretty good, not spicy! Service is great. We enjoyed our food and plan to come back again. Parking is right out front designated for customers. Bathroom is for customers only. **because they're celebrating their 10th anniversary, some of their dishes (like mine) are $2 off.

    Pernil Trifongo

I visited Boriken Restaurant for the first time back in 2015 and it was my first experience eating mofongo. I instantly fell in love with the starchy, garlicky dish - in fact I loved it so much that I started making mofongo at home. On a recent trip to the Portland area, I had to visit again, choosing it over the many, many restaurants still on my to-try list. Pernil Trifongo ($26.95) - I love getting the trifongo at Boriken. For some reason, they don't advertise it anymore in the menu, but they still can make it for a $2 upcharge. This adds sweet plantain and yucca in the mix, giving more starchy body and also some additional slightly fruity and sweet flavor to their already stellar mofongo. In this particular dish, served in a tall pilon, the trifongo is spread along the sides, then the slow-roasted pork is added to the center. The juices of the pork, along with ajo, helps flavor the trifongo, adding some sweet, very savory meaty, and exceptionally garlicky notes. Amazing flavor combination that coats the mouth and doesn't get tiresome. Although soaked in these juices, the trifongo doesn't get mushy, but stays soft and tender while still retaining some solidity and crisp from the fried bits. The top of the pilon walls holds the non-soaked trifongo, creating additional texture from the drier bits of plantain and yucca. The trifongo in general is expertly mashed, so that its tender overall, but still has some appreciable pieces. The pork itself is tender, with some meatier and leaner parts, but also some fattier areas. It combines so well with the garlicky salty flavor. My mouth is drooling just thinking about it. (5/5) Rice with Pigeon Peas ($14.95) - This includes three pieces of sweet or crispy plantains. We went with crispy, which are essentially tostones, smashed into flat chips. Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. The rice is good, but not exceptional. A decent amount of fragrance, tender rice, mixed with some soft peppers and pigeon peas. The peas here aren't all cooked to the same texture - instead, some pieces are more soft and some pieces feel undercooked and grainy, which I found kind of strange. There's a side of beans that are soaked in a broth that's a bit sweet and a bit savory. The beans are very tender and perfectly salted. There are also condiments on the table that can add additional flavor, and bonus they're made in house and available for purchase for those who want to take some home to enjoy. They are quite flavorful and the hot sauce one is quite spicy so beware! (4/5) The mofongo/trifongo served at Boriken is stellar and remains my favorite dish there. Give it a try! I highly recommend it.

Service was excellent. Food was phenomenal. Vibes were chill with the amazing music in the background. This was my first time trying mofongo and I am so glad it was from here. I am very happy some friends recommended we come through here to meet. As Californians, we are sad this isn't a place close by to us, but will def make it back here again for our usual yearly visit!

We went to Boriken. The place was packed and people enjoying the company of others. The two waiters/host were hustling to get people taken care. We heard they were short staffed in the kitchen. Our food arrived late but we understood why. We ordered the steak with onions and garlicky sauce. We wanted to like the dish. The beef appeared to be boiled or poached. The meat was dry and not tendered Probably would not order this dish again. We also ordered the chicken moofongo. Now this entree was very good. The dish was very flavorful. I'm sure this establishment produces a great meal as it was packed when we got there. This could have been an off day due to being short staffed.

I went here curious to try Puerto Rican food-I have tried almost all latin american foods and wanted to cross another off my lists. We came here with a reservation and the waiter was clearly busy but quickly helped us, and he was very very nice and attentive throughout despite how busy he was. The inside of the restaurant (photo attached) is well decorated and gives you a small slice of Puerto Rico. In terms of food, everything we ordered was amazing and I really don't think you can go wrong. If you are looking for a new restaurant to try, consider Boriken!

For a small shop this place is poppin during dinner time. I highly recommend making a reservation if you plan on coming during the weekend.

I have experienced a classic and wonderful experience, flavorful food combinations with a flair of Puerto Rico, when I tell you it feels like I'm actually there, and it's good, most realistic atmosphere and service was fast....it's not fast food but good food with the quality of someone's Abuela in the kitchen, just doing what she normally does when someone comes over. She feeds them and makes them feel at home. That's what I got out of this interaction: a very family style environment with good food. If you haven't been here, make sure to come out and support. "You won't be disappointed!!!!"

Arrived at 6:55pm for a reservation for 4. Was finally acknowledged at 7:06pm only to be told they had no room. This reservation was made 2 weeks in advance and my parents were with us. For some context, a man and a kid with no reservation we struck up a convo with was sat at a table with a reservation sign on it. A few min later, the rest of their party arrived. When finally acknowledged, the woman called a girl over and told her in Spanish (my family and I are Dominican + Puerto Rican) "this was their table" and turned around and told us they had no room. I then asked how it was possible and she shrugged. Looking around, every patron was white, including the people who was given our table. We wanted to support a small business, especially a Latino business and was planning to reserve for a development week for my team (work for the largest employer in Portland). Don't waste your money or time here.

The Puerto Rican food here is delicious! We always get mofongo with garlic butter sauce. This time I tried the lasagna! Different but delicious , worth the try. The mojitos were really refreshing. It's a cute and small establishment and the staff is attentive and friendly!

As close to PR as you can get! I tried the veggie mofongo with the roasted garlic sauce and it was delish! They have a mini mofongo portion from 11-3pm on the menu (17$) which is perfectly sized (this is what I ordered). The parking is limited but located next to the establishment and free. The service was great the server was super informative and patient as questions were asked. Nice ambiance as well! Cute string lights! Would be a good date spot to try something new!

The chicken empanada was perfectly crispy and full of flavor, and the chicken arepa was warm, cheesy, and so comforting, with tender shredded chicken that just hit. Everything tasted intentional and made with love. Even the sauce on the side brought everything together so well. I would honestly pay double for this experience--not because it's expensive (it's very reasonable), but because the food, the people, and the overall vibe are just that good. A quick Google search and we landed upon a perfect option, La Wawa Puerto Rican Soul Food. When looking up their menu we were thrilled to see, not just items that could probably be accidentally vegan ... no no, they have a full on Vegan Plate listed in their menu! In addition to including a picture of the actual food we received, I've also included a picture of the Vegan Plate as listed directly on their website. For your plate, you get some typical staples of slaw, rice, beans, maduros and tostones, each item seemed perfectly spiced and flavored and the respective textures were spot on as well. We actually ordered a separate side of tostones to hold us for the drive back (waiting until back in the room before wolfing down for the Vegan Plate). So, one word of caution ~~ blink and you'll miss them ~~ especially if driving at night as they are based out of a food truck. Whatever listing we found for them when Googling, we failed to take notice of their business model being a food truck model as opposed to a brick and mortar location. They are right on south side of Highway 101 so they're easy to find so long as you're using Google Maps or Waze and mindful that you're looking for a food truck. There's a lot of options in the North Oregon Coast, some accidentally vegan, some specifically labelled vegan, Pizza, Thai, Sushi, etc ... all great options. The Puerto Rican food was something we found to be a bit unique for the area. So if you're looking for something just a bit different than the norm, along with the comfort of knowing you're eating a vegan dish ... you need to drop on by and show them some appreciation!

Buen provecho :) PS - there is plenty of parking and the dispensary does allow you to use the restroom, they let my husband use it. There are plenty of nearby public restrooms with beautiful ocean views, too.
