Excellent restaurant. BUT steak prices are higher than Houston, or even New Orleans. Other items have regular prices. I had regular "Caesar" salad, shrimp pesto pizza, & coldbeer; all excellent. Was excited after reading the reviews. The restaurant is cute and staff great butt the food was definitely not. Got pork chops that were dry and the pesto was so packed with cilantro I could barely eat it. My husband got some fish and said it wasn't bad, but not great for what we paid. Wouldn't go back. Another great dinning option in Laredo. Nice atmosphere with brick and mortar lined walls and faux lowered ceiling making the room feel less cavernous. Still a bit wide open for my liking but when busier probably feels fine. Wine list is extensive with decent by the glass options... including the Malbec that I tried. I was really craving some pasta, and chose the Chicken Chipotle Alfredo Pasta, which just needed a bit more grated parmesan... easily rectified! This really hit the spot for me and was ample in size... unfortunately leaving no room for dessert. Another plus is that they carry my favorite rum... While visiting Laredo, TX my sister and I stumbled upon Border Foundry craving some dessert & of course a margarita. Border Foundry did not disappoint. We got the Oreo Cream Cake (which was recently added on the menu) and the S'mores with the pairing (Carajillo). I always love a good pairing and this was spot on! The sweetness of the dessert and the hints of coffee in the Carajillo complimented each other nicely! The classic margarita was not my favorite so I probably wouldn't do that again but everything else we ordered was divine! read more

I went with a big group and we ordered from all over the menu. Personally, I had the Prime Ribeye. It was bad and flavorless. The person next to me had the Salmon and also felt it was poorly made. People that tried the pasta said it was okay, but overall, nobody thought this was quality food for the price read more

This review is for a late lunch for two at the bar on a Monday. service Albert was our bartender and he was simply outstanding. Very professional and attentive. He assembled a perfect cosmo for my wife. For me, he guided me through the IPAs they had on-tap and in bottles or cans. He also did an exceptional job steering us through the menu, making suggestions and accommodating all our requests. We have seen who appears to be a manager or the owner on-site both times we have been here. Management is most definitely hands-on and making sure the high standards are maintained. bar Nice selection of beer on tap, including Sierra Nevada's Torpedo (what they call an Extra IPA). In addition, Border Foundry had a great selection of cans and bottles, including more IPAs. Also an extensive selection of very high end bourbons - and most other libations. Even a very credible selection of wine. Certainly a very nice bar with something for everyone. food The Border Foundry has a justly deserved reputation for a great kitchen. To begin, my wife and I split a wedge salad with curry dressing. It's two baby heads of lettuce with blue cheese, bacon, toasted pumpkin seeds and tomatoes. A creative, tasty and very well executed dish. Next, we split a chicken fried steak. Hey, we're in Texas, after all! The CFS is very high quality and clearly house made. Albert also sub-ed sautéed veggies for salad. Usually I dismiss veggies as wasted time, but not these! They were exceptional. As were the fries! The gravy, meh? But who needed gravy! The kitchen was nice enough to plate our split entree separately and put the gravy on the side. details Plenty of parking right outside. There is outdoor seating which looks quite nice. The dining area does not appear overly large. You might want reservations for weekend nights. The kitchen is exhibition style and the line cooks clearly knew what they were doing. read more

This is one of my favorite places to have a celebratory/fancy/"treat yo self" dinners when I'm at home. Service, atmosphere, quality of food, and location are on point. I've tried their steaks, pastas, and seafood, and the food is brought out in a timely manner with flavors that compliment each other so well. My most recent dish was the Chipotle Pasta. For the business travelers this is probably your best bet in all of Laredo; weekday or weekend. The outdoor space is well established, as they have live music Thursday, Friday, and most Saturday's. I have had many of the seafood dishes and a prime strip steak. Everything always great and noticeably fresh. Wow! Amazing dining experience. I ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer & nothing but the best lump crab quality. I haven't had such great crab cakes since I visited Crab Daddy's in The a Woodlands! These were even better & the best I've had! I also order a brick oven baked gluten free pizza & I was very pleased with the flavor & quality. I'm new to town and was worried about diversity in the food scene. But after brunch this morning at the Border Foundry, hope has been restored! I started off with a bloody mary (spicy!) and ordered the chicken salad stuffed avocado with balsamic reduction off the normal menu. Delicious!!! My boyfriend ordered the chicken and waffles which caused my eyes to roll back into my head. They were that good! They had a young woman playing live acoustic guitar which set the perfect tone for a Saturday morning brunch. Definitely recommend this place! read more

I have visited Laredo several times on business lately. Was never very satisfied Ann's mostly disappointed with food in the are. Today I stumbled on this gem! Whaat a find ( thanks to yelp)! It was a bit early for dinner and late ffor lunch due to my crazy travel schedule so I decided on the shrimp carbonara not really knowing what to expect. I asked about garlic bread but they did not have it. The dish I was served was very attractive and incredibly good. They even made me some garlic bread! Lots of mixed feelings here. I'll start with the pros: - The dining area is small, but beautiful. The decor is rustic chic and pays homage to the beginnings of the Border Foundry. - The lobster and chanterelle risotto is delicious, albeit a little rich to actually finish. (Half of the serving is probably as much as most can handle. The chunks of lobster - The Cornish HEB was surprisingly flavorful, mostly thanks to the sauce served with it. - The gentleman who became our waiter (despite not being initially assigned to our table) was attentive and personable. That's about it. Now, the REAL stuff: - We wanted to enjoy a NYE dinner at Border Foundry. We called about a week in advance, at which time we were informed that they do not accept reservations (remember this for later). The asked us for our information nonetheless "to try to be accommodating." - We arrived on the evening of NYE at about 7:15 PM. The lobby area was certainly bustling, but it did not seem overwhelming to the point that we felt the need to leave. The hostess, a young blonde woman, seemed irritated as soon as we walked up to the counter. I get it--I'm sure she'd had a tiring evening. But customer service is important, and she showed us none. Each question was met with a heavy sigh and a perceptible eye roll. She informed us that it would be a wait between 45 minutes to an hour and a half. We asked what the purpose of taking down our information a week ago was, to which she responded again, "to try to accommodate." (In other words, there was no purpose.) - As we waited patiently in the lobby area with a couple of drinks, the restaurant continued to see an influx of guests. We noticed one family who had the same number in their party as ours get seated, which was surprising considering we'd been there about a half hour earlier. As though that wasn't clue enough, a woman proceeded to walk in with her husband and say, RIGHT beside us, "Good thing we made reservations." Needless, they were seated in about 15 minutes. Apparently, only a certain kind of folks can make reservations at Border Foundry. - We were sat at precisely 9:45 PM, which meant a total wait of TWO HOURS AND THIRTY MINUTES. Honestly, we would have left had we known we'd wait so long, but by the time we realized it, we'd committed too much time to leave. The initial estimation of an hour and a half was far from accurate. - After we were sat at our table, a waiter approached us immediately to ask for our drink orders. We each ordered our drinks and then also requested the Mac and Cheese Croquette appetizer. After waiting for our drinks for about fifteen minutes, a different waiter approached us with our drinks, saying "I got sick of watching you all wait for your drinks." While we were grateful to be served, the comment caught us off guard. - The croquettes were ATROCIOUS. They were essentially glorified cheese sticks with crumbling breading and overcooked, sauceless, sticky macaroni pasta within. There was no seasoning on the pasta or in the breading, and even attempting to salvage the dish with salt and pepper did nothing. Admittedly, the cheese sauce served on the side was adequate, but not nearly enough to save face. - The shrimp carbonara was decent, with the pasta cooked al dente and the shrimp nicely seasoned. However, the sauce was far from any carbonara I've ever tasted, with a globby thickness more often reserved for bad store-bought Alfredo sauce and far from the light, buttery carbonara I've often tasted. The chicken carbonara was even less successful, which the large slices of chicken being served as hard as a rock--intensely overcooked. I'm happy to have finally tried this spot, but honestly, once was enough. Save yourself the headache. If you're looking for good drinks, sit at the Border Foundry bar. But if you're looking for grade A service and really impeccable food, this may not be the place. read more

What can I say? This place is one of the best in town. Their food, service and drink selection is hands down the best. High end food and drinks great ambient. The food and drinks are so good I go there very often. Also the ONLY PLACE IN TOWN where you can get a BRICK OVEN PIZZA. The pepperoni and pork lovers pizza are delicious. The pork lovers has a fried egg on top. So damn good. You can't for wrong for drinks and food here. Thumbs up! read more

Last night I attended a holiday cooking demonstration on the TAMIU campus. Owner and chef Pete Mims showed participants how to make many of the side dishes that are traditional for a Thanksgiving feast. He also gave many tips on how to cook a turkey (brine!!! Brine!!!). Admission price included a Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings as well as recipes for all the dishes. It was the best Thanksgiving meal I have EVER eaten in my life. Everything was so juicy and moist and delicious. Border foundry is definitely my favorite restaurant in Laredo. Tomorrow night they are catering another dinner party for me. Love this restaurant!!!
