16 Ounce ribeye with mashed pototoes.
    Ricky R.

While in town for work, I had a hankering for a good meal. Preferably a good steak. One I did not mind paying a little extra for. Whilst speaking with colleague of mine, she mentioned Border Foundry and said they had an amazing steak, but to bring my wallet. That sounded right up my alley, so a time was set, and it was a date. But not that kind of date... I arrived early and walked in. The atmosphere was very upscale, but very casual. My coworker arrived and we were seated promptly. Our waitress arrived and took our drink orders quickly. We perused the menu, and the drinks arrived showed up shortly thereafter after. My coworker, not a carnivore like myself, opted for fries as an appetizer, and some sort of salad. I ordered the 16 ounce ribeye, medium rare and the roasted garlic au gratin. Not a fan of the broccolini, I asked for an alternative, to which she said there was none. So, I opted to just pass that to my vegetable loving friend. The waitress did mention that mashed potatoes could be substituted for the au gratin potatoes, so I took her up on that. I like au gratin potatoes, I just prefer mashed better. Maybe next time au gratin. After some good conversation with my coworker, and a little bit of time, our food arrived. My dish looked amazing, and my coworker's looked good, if you like vegetables. Time to dive in. My first cut into the ribeye was an indicator this had the makings of a wonderful steak. It smelled great, the crust was perfect, and my knife cut through the meat with no effort at all. There was the perfect color of red with just a tinge of pink. I took my first bite and wow. Great flavor, and it melted in my mouth like butter. My tastebuds were rejoicing. I paused from the steak to dive into the potatoes. Again, my tastebuds were in sensory overload. Some of the most creamy potatoes I had ever had. Absolutely delicious. Needless to say, my dish was devoured. At this point, I had forgotten my coworker was even there with me. Amazing dish. After our meals were consumed, I contemplated dessert. Our waitress gave us options, and the only thing that sounded appealing to me was bananas fosters dish. I decided to go all out, and just pay the king's ransom. Pull out all the stops. My coworker initially decided for dessert, but declined at the last minute. After some more conversation, and just a little time, my dessert arrived. The presentation was unimpressive, and a stark contrast from the main course. This dessert was a banana with some sauce on it, and some nuts. Little or no effort was put into it, and the taste took the wind out of the sails. The banana was overly mushy, and very small. My only guess is that dessert is not ordered much here, so they focus more on the main dishes. No harm, no foul. I will keep this in the back of my mind for next time. We received and paid our bills, and were on our way. I was very pleased. Overall, the experience and food were excellent. Why only four stars? The simple answer is price. I am a connoisseur of steak, so it is of my opinion that $60 for a ribeye steak was a bit overboard. As far as steak goes, the taste was five out of five, undisputedly. I would even say out of all the steaks I have had in my life, this one would be in the top three. Also, this was not a suit and tie place, so you should not have to pay suit and tie prices. I highly recommend here and definitely will return. If you are in the area, and have some cash to spend, stop by. You will be glad you did. Enjoy.

We tried to get reservations at the Tack Room but they didn't reach back out to us. Panicking, I did some further research and found this place being right next to our work station. Some co-workers heard great things about this spot so I stopped in here and attempted to make a reservation for 7 of us. Fortunately they were able to fit us in here on a Thursday night for a work-group dinner. First, the interior of the restaurant is clean, bright, and inviting. The bar area looks festive with the displays of liquor and wine options. Tables can be easily assembled to accommodate larger parties. And it's a semi-open kitchen where you can see the dishes being presented for serving. It does it get loud depending on the crowd. Upon seating, we realized there was another work-party dinner AND a graduation dinner happening around us so servers were running around left and right for us all. Speaking of service, they are attentive and they did the best they could with the large parties. We got our drinks in a timely manner for the most part. There was some communication issues as a few people ordered beers but got iced tea instead; weird. We mentioned beer again but used the term 'cerveza' which they responded promptly to. So maybe that's the secret word when ordering beer here. Since they have a large wine selection, I started with a glass of Picket Fence Pinot Noir before switching to the Ferrari Sauvignon Blanc. Both excellent choices! Now for food, they have an extensive menu of appetizers, burgers/sands, pizza, and 18 different entree items. I went with the pork chop w/ the gnocchi and pecan pesto. Several others ordered the smoked cornish hen. We also had another order the herb crusted salmon w/ risotto and yogurt sauce. A couple others did the Gulf Shrimp Carbonara and Chicken alfredo. We all enjoyed our dishes; the pork chop was quite tender and the gnocchi w/ pesto had nice flavor and complimented the protein. The cornish hen was tasty although a bit dry according to those who ordered it although they loved the au gratin potatoes that were served with it. The salmon and pasta dishes were enjoyed by the recipients who finished them clean. Overall, we had a solid meal here and will likely return for another team dinner should we be in Laredo. Props to the staff for accommodating us last minute!

What a find! We wanted some pizza and found surprisingly few options so settled on Border Foundry and we definitely did not settle. This place is cool and the food delicious. We sat at the bar and Omar was our bartender. He was friendly and helped us make our decisions. He was also quick with drinks and super nice. Thanks Omar. If you find yourself in Laredo there is at least one good pizza place. They also have a lot of other choices that aren't pizza.

I was a little disappointed my second visit to this restaurant. The menu did not say the scallops were going to be wrapped in bacon. When they came out and I told the server I couldn't eat bacon he just shrugged and made no effort to remedy the situation for this pescatarian. I cannot have bacon and so I could not partake in that dish. It kind of seemed that the server did not understand what my complain was as he smiled when he talked it us but then he didn't seem to comprehend what I was saying. My friend had cranberry juice and when they offered her refills she assumed it was like ordering a fountain soda and the refills were complimentary. Imagine her surprise when the bill came and her beverage was $7.50! For the cost of lunch at this business I expect service to be a little more on point. Hopefully they can have a conversation with their servers to ensure customers have a better experience in the future.

I travel for work so Laredo is a frequent stop for me. This was my first time trying Border Foundry as it was highly recommended by multiple people and it's also listed as one of the most expensive restaurants in Laredo, not sure if that means anything. My entire meal was $75 which I think it's fairly standard for a meal this size and what would be expected of this time of restaurant. My order consisted of a wedge salad to start followed by the rack of lamb for my entree and ending the evening with the Carajillo cake. I accompanied my meal with a glass of Malbec and later Cabernet. The first thing I noticed was that my wine was brought out with a glass of ice water with a lemon. Wine should be served with room temperature water without lemon. Onto the salad: it was okay, not too much flavor in the dressing which was disappointing as wedge salads are my favorite. The rack of lamb was also just okay. The sauce lacked flavor again. At least the lamb was cooked to a perfect medium-rare. The carajillo cake was the saving grace of this night. This dessert that has multiple layers of flavor really was worth the wait and the calories. Perhaps this was an off night but if I do decide to try this place again I hope I can update my review with a more favorable experience.

The prices here are reasonable compared to Houston or Dallas, for example, but most everything is a la carte, so you can spend a lot quickly if not careful. My eyes were set on the seabass ceviche, so I know I had to have that. I also wanted a cocktail, but I remembered I had a long drive ahead of me, so I just opted for more food instead. I ordered the corn flake fried chicken sandwich. Ceviche - a nicely sized portion that comes with 2 crispy tortillas. Inside the ceviche are finely diced carrots, red onions and cucumbers, cilantro, sliced avocado, and numerous pieces of diced fish and lime juice at the bottom. 5/5 Chicken sandwich - served on a plate with 2 sliced yellow cherry tomatoes sitting face down. This has a large breast, with pickles and cole slaw. 3/5 This is my kinda place, and it seems fairly unusual to find a restaurant like this in Laredo of all places. I would definitely come back on my next visit to Laredo.

Being a border city to Mexico, Laredo has it's share of great seafood restaurants and La Laguna Mariscos sure has a spotlight on them. Not too long ago I came with a friend for ceviche de camarones (Shrimp Ceviche) and boy were we in for a surprise. The ceviche was well served combined with spicy prepared cucumber slices and of course tasty. The quality on this dish is great and recommend two people sharing this because of the portion size. Unless you are very hungry then go ahead.. Lol, I on the other hand ordered their Avocado Sushi roll and enjoyed this dish. The roll had a yummy fresh taste to it and had just the right amount of avocado on the roll. This avocado roll came with a side of crab salad, Tampico and fried rice. Just great. Price was decent and overall satisfied with the food. What I liked about the restaurant is that the ambiance is so vibrant and full of life. I believe they have live music on the weekends and let me tell you, salsa music at La Laguna is spicy! ay ay ay! Therefore, I would also like to suggest to the owner that management should be on top of their servers at all times. In fact, management should be on top of their servers and customers. That Saturday I went to dine at La Laguna took almost 26 minutes for us to get our orders in to our server. I understand that businesses can be very busy, specially on a Saturday night, but these small details make a big difference. The restaurant is very neat and clean. Servers are friendly and love that they even suggest good dishes from the menu. Thanks guys!

Servers are friendly and well dressed, this is a high end spot. Table bread was good, came with chimmichurri and butter, it was good. So good in fact that they asked me if I wanted another bread, and I said of course. What they failed to mention is that they charged $5 for the bread, wasn't expecting that at all. No one advised me of that but alright. We ordered a shrimp with oil dish, cooked in a cast iron, this was outstanding! Great flavor, came with 6 pieces of shrimp and came out on a hot cast iron pan. Highly recommend. I ordered a 15 oz picahna and my wife ordered 12 oz American ribeye. The ribeye was thin, but cooked well. However they failed to season the steak. The picahna was cooked okay, also poorly seasoned. When you think of picahna , you think of the fat cap, tell me why my picahna did not have any fat cap on it? They carved out the fat! I mean cmon man, you're an Argentinian steakhouse and you do that, that is blasphemy. Then they cut my steak, let it bleed out on the plate. Is this their first time or what? Leave the steak whole, like my wife's ribeye. The second saddest steak I've eaten. The worst one was a ribeye I had at Otillias. Steak came with steak fries and they were okay. My wife's baked potato wasn't fully cooked either Overall this place missed the mark and for paying $115 for two people before tip, you're better off grilling your own steaks for a lot less. I paid $40 for the picahna and $39 for my wife's steak. I wanted to give this place 3 stars but that bs bread move left me upset.
