Loud? Yes. Chaotic? Yes. Delicious? YES. Anytime I'm away for extended periods of time, Border Cafe is the first meal I crave. Order the Gulf Coast Seafood Enchiladas. It's my go-to order, and I have yet to be disappointed. Shrimp, crab, and crawfish stuffed in a tortilla with green pepper, and smothered in a decadent cheese sauce. All of the portions are HUGE, and well worth the money. Even the drinks arrive in oversized glasses, and between that and warm tortilla chips served immediately upon seating, you'll never go hungry or thirsty. As a side I'd recommend the Jambalaya, which has just a bit of heat to it. But in the end, you really can't go wrong with anything at this place. read more

I haven't eaten here in ages, so I thought I'd eat here for lunch instead of one of my usual lunch destinations. Unlike most times that I've eaten here in the past, the place was hoppin'! Almost every seat was taken, but we were able to get a good seat over by one of the windows. We ordered the chicken and steak fajitas, shredded beef burros with beans and rice, and a taco and enchilada plate with jambalaya. For the most part, everything was good, but I wouldn't recommend the jambalaya, and all of the food was way too salty. I guess the big, tall water glasses really came in handy. As for the service, our waitress was nice, and when we asked her for a side of rice because of the saltiness of the jambalaya, the manager was quick to bring it to our table. And the guy who dropped our food off was nice (and cute). I also liked the atmosphere...between the Elvis-like music and the way that the place is decorated, it made me feel like I was on vacation. All in all, despite the saltiness of the food, I would come back. read more

We came here based on the Yelp reviews. It was a rainy Saturday after Thanksgiving, and there was a long wait time of 45 mins. The atmosphere inside was very cool with bight colorful light-bulbs lighting the whole place. There is a bar area where you can order drink while waiting to be seated. After being seated, they will bring us fresh made chips and salsa.We ordered Cajun Popcorn, Corn and Black Bean Empanadas, Blackened Chicken Fajitas, Seafood Enchilladas and Crawfish Etouffee. The best of this lot was Seafood Enchilladas and Crawfish Etouffee. We didn't like the Blackened Chicken Fajitas because it was burnt a lot and the fajita itself looked and tasted pretty plain. Covid Outdoor dining mode. We were seated quickly as we made reservations 1/2 in advance for a party of 8. Because of Covid we could only be seated as a part of 4 at 2 separate tables. The margaritas were bland, the the frozen Sangria was very good. Beer selection was limited to Corona and Modelo, I'm guessing because of Covid? Border Café is a big ass operation! There had to be 50-100 tables in the place and every last one of them was full. It's a converted service station of some sort that without the outdoor props like gas pumps, tow trucks and garage doors, you'd never know. The menu is part Tex-Mex, part Cajun. We got here at 6 pm on a Saturday night and despite the number of tables, there was still a 40 minute wait. We were eventually seated and given complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were like salted cardboard but the salsa was fine. We also ordered a side of guacamole that came in a hot dish causing the guac to get warm. We ordered margaritas which were decent then ordered our entrees. I ordered the combo fajitas that came with chicken, beef and grilled onions, no peppers :( It also came with rice and beans which were surprisingly good. The wait staff is attentive, friendly and the food is brought out quick as they are wanting to turn those tables over. The prices are very cheap as well. If I could give zero stars I would. Went there two nights ago with a group and we all were extremely disappointed. This place used to be the place to go for Mexican food - not anymore. The portions have decreased in size, the prices were raised which is understandable due to the pandemic however the menu is down to a flip side menu instead of have several pages which basically shows their menu is now severely limited. The steak fajita which was order by a few members of our party was so salty it was not edible. The chicken and steak fajitas came out to the table warm - plates were not sizzling like they used to be served on. It's disturbing that a place that was jumping where you had to wait for a table has turned into a place that isn't worth the money hence why you no longer have to wait for a table. I think management had to take a good look around as soon this place will be the next one with the closed sign on it. read more

My husband and I have been wanting come here for quite some time, and one morning after running a few errands, we saw the giant EAT sign approaching and decided to stop by for early lunch. We arrived a few minutes before 11:30 and there were people already lining up at the door waiting to be seated. Once inside we were seated right away, and a server came by to take our drink order and drop off salsa. About 15 minutes went by before the complimentary chips arrived. Shortly after, our drinks were delivered. As the server put my margarita down, he accidentally spilled quite a bit on the table, looked at me, then down at the spill and walked away, not acknowledging what had happened. I ordered the Rio Grande and I must say the portion was WAY bigger than what I was expecting. Definitely shareable between 2 people. After filling up on the endless chips I couldn't find room to eat all the food that came out and ended up packing most of it up to take home. The rice and bean sides were both pretty good and came in small bowls. The blackened chicken and beef came on a hot dish. The chicken was tender with a blackened crust and tasted fine but I favored the beef that was underneath. When we left we realized that the smell of the restaurant was stuck to our clothes and jackets. We didn't mind since we were heading home immediately afterwards, but it's definitely something to think about. read more

This review is about an online order placed at https://bordercafe.com/ I received the order confirmation email that said the following: "Do not reply to this email! Need help with your order? Please contact us by phone at (302) 633-6400." When we call that number it just has a recorded message that says " Please come and park in the designated area and ask the host for more info about the order!!!! " When we actually went to the restaurant to pick up the food, we were not greeted or treated well. We received the order (take out order) neatly packed but had no guest ware or napkins, disposable plates. When I requested, I was told that they ran out of all the accessories and they expect to received the delivery the next Monday!! Then the young lady called the manager who said he will be glad to provide napkins and I gladly said yes. He ran to the bathroom and came back and handed me a bunch of bathroom towels!!! Have gone to this restaurant for years but never ordered takeout before. Whatever you do do not order takeout at the bar they will bring the plates of food out and tell you to box it up yourself and it was 4 meals...unbelievable! Why my husband was not told this when he ordered is beyond me. He talked to both the manager and bartender but was told the same thing you didn't order the food online. If this is their service for walk in takeout I won't bother going back to eat in the restaurant because I am sure they will start expecting you to grab you food from the kitchen. We haven't eaten here for a long time but you can't go wrong with anything you order. Had to start with a Margarita of course along with an order of Guacamole and chips and salsa. My husband had the Half and Half Fajitas and I enjoyed the Pulled Beef Enchiladas with Beans and Rice. Our waiter Chi accommodated all our needs throughout the meal. This has been my favorite restaurant for years. Even on a busy day the service is always fast. The food is delicious, the portions are generous, and the price is so reasonable for the amount you get. I recommend the chicken fajitas, black bean and corn empanadas, anything paired with the shoestring fries. Boy this place has gone downhill. The food here used to be fantastic. The servers were top notch. Went in last night. The jambalaya was dry with burnt meat, the 1/2 & 1/2 fajitas were burnt and unappealing and every meal was cool if not cold. No one finished their meal. The server or cook forgot 1 meal and it was served after the rest of us stopped eating. Years ago, my kids worked there and they had very strict rules about everything.
