Exceptional time at Bordeaux! The bar is tucked on the first floor of the Crowne Plaza Hotel. It is quiet and presumably frequented by hotel guests but welcomes the public as well. With that said the parking lot can be rather full of guests of the hotel and wayfinding signage is not a thing, it's more a IYKYK location. We were greeted warmly by the bartender and our drinks were served almost perfectly, the high quality vodka and the fresh ingredients made these an area favorite in the martini category. My only wish was that I wanted a full glass. We ordered the flatbread and it was scrumptious, legitly could eat this weekly! We went on a Sunday evening with our extended family. We were a large party, but they weren't very busy and we got personalized service. Ben did a great job as our server. To start, most of us had beer. They have a nice selection on tap, including an oatmeal stout and a pumpkin ale (also had cider and an IPA, plus a few others). The menu has a nice variety--appetizers, salads, sandwiches, flatbreads and some traditional dinner selections. I started with a fantastic butternut squash soup. No one else in our party had an appetizer or soup. Much of our group had steak as their entree. Steaks were tasty and well prepared. Some medium rates were more like medium, but flavors were excellent. I like that you get a choice of "toppings". There were quite a few to choose from, including mushrooms, chimichirri sauce, a red wine reduction and a couple others. I tried the cherry smoked salmon. I loved the slightly Smokey flavor--not overwhelming at all. Sides were good. Fries have skins still on (a winner in my book!), house made potato chips, carrots, asparagus and mashed potatoes were all very good. I love the color themes in the restaurant--dark wood tables, rich red upholstered chairs, off white "distressed" walls. Lighting was subdued. Glassware is engraved with the restaurant name. I stayed at the Crowne Plaza for a work trip and ended up eating here a couple of times due to convenience. The service was good, ambiance was chill and it was never overly busy. The food was good for a hotel restaurant but I do wish there were some different options for appetizers or small bites. read more

Stayed at the Crown Plaza Hotel on a Thursday and was happily surprised that this restaurant was there as it was cold and rainy outside and we didn't feel like going anywhere after a long day. The hotel is doing renovations, but the restaurant where we sat wasn't affected. Other parts seemed to be. The food came out hot and wonderful. The shrimp appetizer was particularly lovely, especially considering it was gluten-free and breaded, which is a real treat for my gluten-free roomie. The shrimp pasta was also delicious and a generous helping. Roomie said her chicken was quite good, but the green pea side was weird and could be skipped. It was oddly sweet. Bordeaux is a hidden gem inside the Crowne Plaza Hotel. It was a great place to celebrate after MSU spring graduation. The perfect service, filet mignon and side dishes and wine. Having eaten at the Bordeaux quite often for nearly two years now due to staying at the Crowne Plaza frequently, I've had a chance to sample lots of their food. The quality of the food has pretty much stayed the same, but it feels like the "hit-or-miss" dishes are more often "misses" than they used to be. But unfortunately their eye for detail seems to have completely gone away. Recently, every order I make has something wrong with it. Either the Beet and Goat salad comes sans goat cheese (which is really the best part of the salad imo), or they forget the sauce you wanted and instead put extra of the sauce you didn't want, or they miss something that you marked on the breakfast order form. Since I stay here often and don't want to anger the staff with my calls every time they miss something, I just live with it. :( read more

I had heard rumblings of Bordeaux, but had never visited. We decided it would be a nice dinner prior to tickets at Wharton. (15 minute straight shot down the highway if anyone is wondering) I was fairly surprised to walk in and only see one 2 top in the bar area. We had the entire dining room to ourselves to start. Our server was managing the bar and also covering tables. He did an excellent job! We started with the brussels sprouts, which were amazing. My daughters split the goat cheese gnocchi and loved it, and I had the grilled cheese. This was a grown up grilled cheese with sliced apples and Gruyere and it was tasty! I upgraded to the truffle tots instead of home made chips. For dessert the kids had a chocolate torte and I had the espresso martini. A few other tables trickled in while we ate but I was surprised by how quiet it was for a Friday night. Bordeaux is a nice option in the Crowne Plaza Hotel. My boyfriend and I wanted to order room service from there but the phone lines were all busy. So we trekked down to the restaurant to grab some food after a long day of football in East Lansing. We had stayed in this hotel and gotten room service previously, so we stuck with what we knew and got the same meals - boneless wings and a quesadilla. We also added a couple cups of soup since we were so cold from being outside in a hailstorm during the game! The food came out quickly and everything was good. The quesadilla has grilled peppers and onions in it and comes with sour cream, salsa, and guacamole, which is great. The boneless wings come dry with sauce on the side. They also offer complimentary bread and butter, which was really nice. The menu includes some more elegant entree choices, like filet mignon, ribeye, whitefish, salmon, etc. - we just wanted some easy, comfort pub food. Our server was really sweet and attentive and was apologetic about the incredibly rowdy and very loud group near our table. When we said we would just box everything up to go (since it was so loud), she brought out boxes promptly and even had to-go cups with lids for all our sauces. We spent about $35 before tip without any beverages, not bad considering it's in a hotel and typically those restaurants are pretty expensive. Would I go out of my way to dine here? No, but if I stayed at this hotel again and was too tired to go anywhere else, it's definitely a good choice. read more

Pretty good restaurant found in a hotel. The drinks at the bar are weak but the bartender was nice. There was only one other diner besides me and my friend but everything took forever to come out. The rib fingers came out cold but my friend liked the sauce. The scallops and steak also came out cold but we're both very good! The bread pudding was thrown in the microwave we could tell and had a weird taste. Actually it was quite gross as if it was old or something. Our server was friendly but spent most her her time cleaning the restaurant and not checking on us. read more

I won't make this too long; I just want to give credit where credit is due. My wife and I are visiting from Northern Michigan - by the Bridge - and we're staying at a hotel across Creyts from this restaurant. We looked at the internet to find a restaurant nearby and discovered this gem. The menu, though not huge, was more than sufficient and varied. The food was fantastic - well cooked and flavorful, with good quantities. My wife loves Brussel Sprouts, and she said these were the best Brussel Sprouts that she had ever had. My burger was cooked rare as I requested, came with several toppings, and sauces - but not so much as to make the bun mushy or to fall apart. The fries were also cooked crisp, but not hard or chewy, and had a wonderful flavor. My wife loved her tanquerey gin tonic, as did I my Bell's Kalamazoo Stout. The restaurant is very clean and pleasant, and is quiet enough to permit conversation with your table mates. But even better than the restaurant, the ambience, or the food is the wait staff. They are attentive but not intrusive, and are always ready to serve the customers needs. The staff are also invariably friendly, a definite plus, not found in many restaurants - where the customer is often made to feel like an inconvenience rather than an asset for the restaurant. Our server was Mindy, and she was wonderful! I can't speak for the other wait staff, but from what I observed, they seemed just as professional and helpful as Mindy It was just as much fun to meet Mindy and to speak with her, as it was to eat the great food that she served us. We are staying here until Friday. My wife, who got her Bachelor's and Master's from MSU back in the mid-70's is going to show me around Lansing and East Lansing, eating each evening at some restaurants that she remembers from her college days, but we have already decided to eat dinner here at least one more evening. Adorable wine bar inside the Crowne Plaza! I've been several times for drinks, and have had a pleasant experience every time. I've also had a few meals here and they've been great. For lunch, I recently had the club sandwich. It was fresh (and huge), with house made potato chips. The menu also has a nice variety- everything from sandwiches and burgers, to elegant pasta dishes or steak. A great choice for a professional lunch, or a nice date night out. The service has always been pleasant and timely, in my experience here. This is one of my husband and I's favorite spots. We need more places like this in Lansing! read more

What an amazing find in our own backyard!! Chef Brian has taken the old idea of a hotel restaurant and threw it out the window. Replaced by unique items, mixed with the tried and true. You have to order the "Trio" appetizer - all amazing. If you're in the mood for flatbread, you can't go wrong with. The filet was perfectly prepared and flavorful without being over seasoned. We celebrated a milestone (25th)anniversary here and were thoroughly impressed in every way. From the initial call to set up an appointment, to the special care we received from various team members it was a total pleasure. They even gave us a card signed by the staff wishing us a happy anniversary! In keeping with this excellent service, the food was wonderful with melt in your mouth steaks and delicious appetizers. The main room had a noisy group, but we had a quiet room where we enjoyed our meal. We were too full for dessert but brought home two that we enjoyed very much later. I unfortunately couldn't try the wine but I had the goat cheese mushroom flatbread with French onion soup. Very delicious and portions are huge! The homemade chips and dip they give is addicting! Hello, I feel that I must tell everyone about our horrible Valentine's Day experience. For the entire week I busted my butt attempting to give my girlfriend the perfect Valentine's Day. I made reservations at 6 good restaurants, surprised her with flowers and restaurant choices at work, the whole big show. She chose Bordeaux out of the reservations I made for her, and we came a few minutes early just in case. We were then seated a at a table for two that was so long we could not even reach each other, and our server was very distracted and slow all night. Understandable, it was packed for the holiday. We tried to order the wine blend flight, but they did not have the wine that attracted us to that flight, so we settled on another. Again understandable, it was very busy. We also ordered the seared tuna appetizer. It was not actually seared, just lightly cooked on the outside until discolored and sprinkled with too much salt. Perhaps understandable if they did not have a hot enough grill/pan/flat-top because they were preparing so many meals for the holiday. We then ordered our main courses. I went with the whitefish because the reviews for it were good, and she ordered the Valentine's Day special stout soaked filet-mignon, with a stout sauce and squash. What she got was the filet-mignon from the normal menu, and I got fish that again was covered in salt. Altogether we could have given this up to Valentine's day just being too busy to go out and enjoy a meal, but our distracted server "Zach" proceeded to claim that the dish she ordered was indeed the Valentine's special, just with carrots instead of squash. This was after we had confirmed from another employee from the kitchen that it was not, and said employee had to track him down. All in all this was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. I have never been flat out lied to, or at least lied to so boldly, when the evidence of the lie was right on her plate. The ridiculous check at the end without even an attempt at an apology for mistakes was just the icing on the cake. We will not be back. read more

First I want to say the service is perfect. I can not say enough good things about the server. Welcoming, conversational and not too much. They are attentive and timely. The stars are for the server and manger. The food on the other hand was a disappointment. My son's standards for steak are high. He won't order steak at most restaurants because he will be disappointed. The $33 filet was a disappointment...both the cut if meat wasn't if quality and the seasoning was bland. He ordered it medium rare and it was prepared medium. I ordered the arugula salad with steak. The steak was cooked perfectly but had no flavor at all and was so chewy it made my jobs tired. The beets on the salad definitely complemented the salad, and the cheese was delicious. The arugula did not seem fresh, slightly bland. There was definitely too much salad dressing on the salad the small panel sitting at the bottom of my plate. They also gave us bread with garlic herb butter. Both of the bread and butter were mouthwatering delicious. We could've probably ate a full loaf bread it was so good. The interior design, the ambiance is very nice as well. The place looks nice, the bar feels dirty and the bar tender was short and rude for no reason. I asked Mario for a beer menu so he swung open the doors to the cooler slamming them and said "you want a beer menu, here's my beer menu" and walked away. Unfortunately Mario slammed them so hard they closed so I was sitting there looking at a closed cooler. I tried to order a second round later and he continued to ignore me after making direct eye contact multiple times. No tip for him and would not recommend Bordeaux based off his customer service. Eek. I ordered a chicken caesar salad and a side of bread. Samantha acknowledged that I did not want dressing or cheese. After a short wait, she brought me a plate of lettuce with an undercooked chicken breast on top. The chicken was raw in some points. The salad had no croutons. Samantha never brought out bread. The dining room had 4 other tables at the time, so it was disappointing to see such a poor meal come out of a kitchen that usually has a good reputation. Though I'm in Lansing for work frequently, I won't be visiting Bordeaux again and will tell my coworkers to avoid it as well. read more
