Bootstrap is very reliable, easy and straight forward! If I wasn't moving, I would definitely continue my service. They've never missed a bucket. The bucket's seal well, you can't smell anything and the compost is lovely, it's great for your plants. Highly recommended if you would like to reduce your waste! Unfortunately the City of Boston still doesn't offer municipal composting like a lot of other metros in the US are starting to do, but enter Bootstrap. I've been with them for several years now and they've been amazing. The buckets are large and have locking lids to avoid odors and you can get soil back periodically if you're into gardening. It's incredible how much food waste can be diverted back rather than end up in a landfill and is very much a worthwhile investment in our planet. read more

Bootstrap makes composting sooo easy. Their bucket provides ample room for our 2-person household with bi-weekly pick-ups. Love that they provide a clean bucket at each pick-up so no need to clean/maintain your own compost bin. We keep the bucket under our sink and smell has not been an issue, and this way we don't have to worry about attracting rodents with an outdoor bin. Bootstrap is great for several reasons. Great customer service, free compost, and partnerships with local businesses. If you have a problem (I've only had minor ones) they respond quickly. It's easy to sign up. The website is easy to navigate and get answers. Each month I get discounts from organizations they partner with, too. But, the best things about this compost company are that you can compost a wider range of materials than other compost companies, AND you get 6 FREE buckets of compost each year. Some of the other companies you have to pay for the compost. In the beginning of COVID they had to stop accepting buckets until they figured out how to do it safely. They offered extra buckets to those who stayed customers and so I got 12 FREE buckets!! And, they got their service going again pretty quickly. I tried composting on my own for a few years and even though I was doing "everything right" I had continuing challenges with all kinds of rodents in each type of compost bin. I have used Bootstrap for my composting needs for several years. I love the service for a variety of reasons. First, I grew up composting and it comes naturally to me. Next, I want my children to understand the importance of composting and to not underestimate the impact of food waste. I love this service, especially since they've started taking dairy and meat. I throw every food scrap into my bin and they whisk it away weekly. I've been able to reduce my trash by about a bag a week. They're always very responsive and it's easy to get extras added on...like my jack-o-lanterns after Halloween or my burlap when I unwrap my shrubs in the spring. I've always wanted to compost my food scraps but never wanted to get my hands dirty. Bootstrap Compost does all the "dirty" work (collecting the bag of scraps and turning it into nutrient-rich compost) and I receive a bucket of compost at the end of a quarter. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! This is a horrible company run by an unprofessional and abusive owner. I cancelled my service years ago - the service provided at the time was ok but it was not working for me so I chose to stop the service. I sent a check in for the amount on the invoice given to me when I cancelled. I checked in with the company to see if they received the check...they hadn't so I sent it again and sent an e-mail asking them to contact me if they did not receive it... I heard nothing from them until over a year later at which point I said as far as I knew, it was paid - however, if they believed it had not been than they should send me an invoice for the amount. They never did though they continued to harass me e-mailing, calling and texting often several times per day for months....with a simple request to pay an amount - no invoice, no explanation as to why I owed this money a year and a half later. When I finally did get an invoice it included service for after the date of cancellation so, I went back to the original invoice which it did appear that as they never cashed the check that it was still outstanding so I paid it. I sent an e-mail indicating that I had paid the original invoice; however, as the invoice provided included dates after I cancelled I would not be paying the remaining balance. They changed their tune slightly saying that they had been wrong about the total amount owed and yet I still owed $28. Followed by an e-mail that said that they would begin charging 14/day in late fees for service that I never received or agreed to pay for! This is when it escalated --the owner continued to send me harassing, insulting and abusive e-mails to the point that I have been forced to make a report with the AG's office. It is not on the customer to magically pay a bill - one must first get an invoice or at the very least an explanation as to what read more

I have been very thankful to find people to take my compost. Try as I might there is no way I compost myself. Too cold during Boston winters! I have been using BSC for 6 months now since the fall. They always come on the day specified (perhaps not as early as they claim) which has worked great for me. I like being able to use them alternate weeks. I have to see how much more difficult ... Or should I say malodorous thus may be come summertime. Weekly may seem a better option then. I can't speak to the reviews for difficulties canceling since I have been very happy! read more
