I used this service a little differently than other reviewers on here. I purchased their compost tea and a jar of their compost. I sprayed my houseplants with the tea, never having done anything like that before. The next morning it was as if I had given a cat a ton of catnip. My plants are exploding. All the leaves are hugely upright and, as healthy as they've all been, I've never seen them like this. They responded immediately and they look as if they've been on plant vacation. I was working temporarily somewhere and they had different barrels set up for trash and recycling. I noticed that there was several composting barrels and realized that they were compost for Bootstrap. So this company has a great, far reach in the greater Boston area. read more

Only been using bootstraps for 1-2 months and both times that we've put the bucket out, it hasn't been picked up on the scheduled day. The first time, it stayed outside for more than a week and when it was finally picked up and returned to us, we didn't receive any soil. The second time, when we saw it wasn't going to be picked up again, we just took it back inside. Our neighbors also have bootstraps and it was the same issue. When I tried to call them, they didn't answer (I called on several occasions). However, Bootstraps was very quick to respond by email and I appreciate their promptness through there. They were accommodating of my situation, and I appreciate that. Just wasn't a good fit for me but from the other nice reviews here, I'm sure they overall provide a good service. read more

I have used Bootstrap for over a year now and my regular garbage is minimal and no longer an attraction to the many rats that populate the Southend. The best part is I put all scraps even chicken bones in and I get it back as compost for our tree well and window boxes. I am happy the Boston City is going to do their program but I am going to stick with Bootstrap as I feel they have proven they won't skip any necessary steps and I know their compost is genuinely clean and excellent quality. read more

This is my first compost service I've used, and I haven't checked prices of others - with that said, I really like bootstrap. The pricing seems totally fair, and the pickup system is simple and reliable. In almost 2 years of being a member, I can only recall 1 time where pickups didn't happen on the day, and an email announcement went out about the makeup day. And once i was charged incorrectly, and the customer service team was fast and friendly at correcting. Would recommend! read more

I've been using Bootstrap Compost since 2013 and I have nothing but good things to say about them. Their customer service is excellent so whenever I've had a question, needed to suspend or reschedule pick-ups, etc., they are quick to respond and always really friendly. The biggest plus for me is that they serviced Roslindale, where I lived when I started using Bootstrap. When I moved to Hyde Park, they didn't necessarily serve this neighborhood (might've changed now, I don't know) but because I was right on the border with Roslindale and maybe because I was a customer, they made an exception and let me continuing using their services. That was really important to me and showed me how amazing their customer service is. The second major plus for me is that they recently allowed you to start putting items like meat and dairy into your scarp bucket, which hadn't been previously allowed. This was amazing because that puts my family and I are putting very little waste into the trash - so much is either going to Bootstrap and being recycled. Amazing! They really provide a critical service that was missing for those who care about food waste/environmentalism/sustainability/etc. but prefer the convenience of having someone else take care of the actual composting part. And then, if you choose, you get a small bucket of beautiful, fresh compost to add to your house plants or garden a few times a year or so! And if you don't want/can't use it, you can have it donated to a local community or school garden or project - amazing! Lastly, prices are really affordable. Love Bootstrap! read more

Been getting biweekly service to Malden since last August, and I'm sad that I can no longer continue because I'm moving out of state. Customer service has always been extremely helpful, whether I was panicking because I forgot to put out my bucket so I now had two buckets, or didn't know how to navigate their UI to ask for some pickups to be skipped for a vacation (they gave very clear directions in their response while putting in the weeks I needed skipped). Getting a composting service has helped me reduce what I've put in my trash and make it less smelly. Biweekly service for our household of two was perfect, and the drivers never missed a pickup. They send you reminders the day before, and also give you updates if they have to reschedule the pickups due to weather. read more

Just started composting for the first time and Bootstrap makes it so easy! Drop off a clean bucket and bag, which I keep outside, behind my house, and I use a small kitchen compost pail in my kitchen which I empty into their bucket every few days. Just like the garbage, thus very familiar and easy to do. I was amazed at how many things can be composted - all sorts of food, cooking oil, soiled napkins, and pet hair!
