I love that I get a clean bucket every week and don't have to use disposable bags. I can compost items that would never seem to degrade in my home composting system, like bones, stems, pumpkin seeds. It's easy to communicate with Bootstrap to suspend service or leave special instructions. Great company! read more

We love everything about Bootstrap. Efficient and clear communications at all times, super responsive to questions, etc. In terms of composting, love not having a stinky garbage and diverting waste from our local landfill. Bootstrap has top notch operations. We have never had an issue. And we love getting soil amendments twice a year for the garden! read more

Neiighbor has had a bucket out in front of our house for well over a week and now has a second one. Tried to contact the company to get them picked up because I didn't know which neighbor had the service. The company does not accept phone calls only emails. I would never take on the service. read more

We love bootstrap compost! They deliver a clean bucket to your door every other week (or every week for a bit more $) and take away the one full of compost. There is never any smell or bugs because of the sealed containers. They are timely and consistent and have quick and helpful customer service. Would highly recommend for your convenient composting needs! read more

We have loved our time using Bootstrap Compost! Excellent service, consistent and reliable pick-ups, caring customer service, and any issues resolved very quickly. The service is also really affordable for just (the biweekly pick up plan). We loved the feeling of getting food waste out of landfills and back into the earth (and seeing our stats go up over time on the website was fun to see!) read more

I used this service a little differently than other reviewers on here. I purchased their compost tea and a jar of their compost. I sprayed my houseplants with the tea, never having done anything like that before. The next morning it was as if I had given a cat a ton of catnip. My plants are exploding. All the leaves are hugely upright and, as healthy as they've all been, I've never seen them like this. They responded immediately and they look as if they've been on plant vacation. I was working temporarily somewhere and they had different barrels set up for trash and recycling. I noticed that there was several composting barrels and realized that they were compost for Bootstrap. So this company has a great, far reach in the greater Boston area. read more

Had a great experience with them, very reliable and very easy to get in touch with and great customer service!

I love using Bootstrap, it is so easy and convenient. When I started, I was so excited and thrilled that they dropped the bucket off and I didn't have to go to pick it up. I use a small compost pail in the house and every couple of days I empty it into my Bootstrap bucket. Thank you Bootstrap! Thank you you Andy for your quick response. read more

Fantastic service. Great customer service, always reliable, does a great thing for the world, and actively reinvests in their communities. Love it, do it! read more

These guys are so great - I love Bootstrap compost! They make it super easy and convenient to compost, and the bucket is big enough to handle all my single person household waste and then some. I highly recommend them - easy, convenient, friendly service, and very reasonable cost. read more

I have used Bootstrap for over a year now and my regular garbage is minimal and no longer an attraction to the many rats that populate the Southend. The best part is I put all scraps even chicken bones in and I get it back as compost for our tree well and window boxes. I am happy the Boston City is going to do their program but I am going to stick with Bootstrap as I feel they have proven they won't skip any necessary steps and I know their compost is genuinely clean and excellent quality. read more

Great service - good communication of when service is happening and if there are any delays. Professional customer service, and really great website with tracker that shows how much I composted, my billing/service info, and has other services/resources I can add on. Great experience overall. read more

This is my first compost service I've used, and I haven't checked prices of others - with that said, I really like bootstrap. The pricing seems totally fair, and the pickup system is simple and reliable. In almost 2 years of being a member, I can only recall 1 time where pickups didn't happen on the day, and an email announcement went out about the makeup day. And once i was charged incorrectly, and the customer service team was fast and friendly at correcting. Would recommend! read more

Only been using bootstraps for 1-2 months and both times that we've put the bucket out, it hasn't been picked up on the scheduled day. The first time, it stayed outside for more than a week and when it was finally picked up and returned to us, we didn't receive any soil. The second time, when we saw it wasn't going to be picked up again, we just took it back inside. Our neighbors also have bootstraps and it was the same issue. When I tried to call them, they didn't answer (I called on several occasions). However, Bootstraps was very quick to respond by email and I appreciate their promptness through there. They were accommodating of my situation, and I appreciate that. Just wasn't a good fit for me but from the other nice reviews here, I'm sure they overall provide a good service. read more

By far the best composting service I've used! Been a customer for 2+ years and they've always been super reliable, communicative, and dependable. An easy way for folks in the city to be more sustainable and support a great local organization. read more

I appreciated the convenience of them picking up my compost on scheduled dates. Will be recommending them to anyone who's looking for composting services! read more

We love this service! Bootstrap is wonderful with their communication, and the member portal is really convenient for skipping/ rescheduling pickups. read more

Bootstrap Compost is great! We got service from them and they are EXTREMELY reliable - never missed a pickup. Such great customer service as well. Unfortunately, we thought we'd save a couple dollars by switching to another company (City Compost). Working with City Compost has been an absolute nightmare, missing services constantly then blaming the us for the mess up. If you are ever thinking of switching, please don't because Bootstrap has a far superior operation. Save yourself the headache. We look forward to starting our Bootstrap compost service again! read more

We've used Bootstrap for a bit over 2 years, and I'd enthusiastically recommend it. The pickup process is convenient and consistent, and the staff is always friendly, responsive and helpful. With appropriate notice, they're happy to pause your service. Biweekly pickup is perfect for a 2-adult household, weekly is great for ~4-6 people. read more

Bootstrap makes composting easy! Now I can be smug :P But in all seriousness, Andy and the team are great. Customer service is awesome and responsive. No missed pickups. Ever. FYI it's easier to get ahold of customer service over email but they're quick! If anyone is on the fence about composting in an apartment, just buy some bio bags and keep your compost in the freezer until pickup day. No stink! read more

Great service, plenty of fertilizer, and very ethical. Always responsive when I have any questions or concerns.

Bootstrap's service is convenient and their customer service is excellent! I started composting with them several years ago and have never regretted it. I feel like I'm a more informed and responsible creator of waste now as a result of using their product. I especially love that the buckets they use are very good at keeping smells from leaking out, so that once our household scaled back to two people last year we were able to switch to every-other-week service without negatively impacting the smell of our kitchen. read more

Bootstrap has been great for composting. Customer service emails have been promptly responded to. The buckets have always been picked up and dropped off as expected. Overall it's been easy and very satisfying to compost. read more

Great customer service, when I went out of town for a month I emailed them and they paused my service and refunded me for that month.

I've been using Bootstrap Compost since 2013 and I have nothing but good things to say about them. Their customer service is excellent so whenever I've had a question, needed to suspend or reschedule pick-ups, etc., they are quick to respond and always really friendly. The biggest plus for me is that they serviced Roslindale, where I lived when I started using Bootstrap. When I moved to Hyde Park, they didn't necessarily serve this neighborhood (might've changed now, I don't know) but because I was right on the border with Roslindale and maybe because I was a customer, they made an exception and let me continuing using their services. That was really important to me and showed me how amazing their customer service is. The second major plus for me is that they recently allowed you to start putting items like meat and dairy into your scarp bucket, which hadn't been previously allowed. This was amazing because that puts my family and I are putting very little waste into the trash - so much is either going to Bootstrap and being recycled. Amazing! They really provide a critical service that was missing for those who care about food waste/environmentalism/sustainability/etc. but prefer the convenience of having someone else take care of the actual composting part. And then, if you choose, you get a small bucket of beautiful, fresh compost to add to your house plants or garden a few times a year or so! And if you don't want/can't use it, you can have it donated to a local community or school garden or project - amazing! Lastly, prices are really affordable. Love Bootstrap! read more

I have really enjoyed my service from Bootstrap. They provide clean buckets for collection and send out emails the day before your pickup to remind you to put the container out. The team is very quick to respond to email questions and is extremely professional. I'm glad that I was able to participate in their efforts to increase composting in the city. Thanks, guys!! read more

These folks are so consistent and have great customer service. Definitely recommend!,

So glad to have signed up for Bootstrap! It's astounding how much less frequently we need to take our trash out, and nice to see how much waste we're diverting. Glad this service exists to help renters who can't backyard compost. Bootstrap is easy, has great customer service, and we enjoy supporting their mission & values. Thank you Team Boot! read more

Wonderful operation. Used them for years and was very happy with the service. Go sign up!

Just started composting for the first time and Bootstrap makes it so easy! Drop off a clean bucket and bag, which I keep outside, behind my house, and I use a small kitchen compost pail in my kitchen which I empty into their bucket every few days. Just like the garbage, thus very familiar and easy to do. I was amazed at how many things can be composted - all sorts of food, cooking oil, soiled napkins, and pet hair! Bootstrap's job is simple but they do it well and as promised: they take your bucket and leave a clean one on your day of delivery. You compost, they take it. Done! Do it! read more

Been getting biweekly service to Malden since last August, and I'm sad that I can no longer continue because I'm moving out of state. Customer service has always been extremely helpful, whether I was panicking because I forgot to put out my bucket so I now had two buckets, or didn't know how to navigate their UI to ask for some pickups to be skipped for a vacation (they gave very clear directions in their response while putting in the weeks I needed skipped). Getting a composting service has helped me reduce what I've put in my trash and make it less smelly. Biweekly service for our household of two was perfect, and the drivers never missed a pickup. They send you reminders the day before, and also give you updates if they have to reschedule the pickups due to weather. read more

Fantastic service, great responsiveness. Easy to use, delivered 6 buckets of new compost for free!

Trying to decide on a yelp category for Bootstrap was not easy. Is it food related? Kinda. Is it a local service? Most definitely. But "composting pick up awesomeness" is not one of the subcategories. Bootstrap is my new favorite company. For a small fee they come and pick up your compost scraps on a weekly or bi-weekly basis depending on your needs (I'm a biweekly girl- I live by myself, but I cook a lot. And I make jams and pickles and schiz, so I have lots of scraps). Bootstrap is awesome for a number of reasons: 1) Obviously, you are doing awesome earth things and being a good environmentalist by not throwing your food scraps and paper towels (YES! You can compost paper towels! I did not know this before joining Bootstrap! There is so much you can compost!) 2) My trash is greatly reduced and, yes, less stinky. (If only I could train my kitties to use the toilet...) 3) After you've been in the program for a while they actually give you some of the beautiful black gold all those food scraps and paper towels make! Mine is currently assisting in growing beets in my garden. 4) They also help supply local community gardens and schools with compost. Seriously, I cannot say enough good things about this company and all the lovely people that work for them. Local. Community oriented. Good for the earth. Good for everyone. read more

I've used this company for a couple of years and have been very happy with them. I used to do my own composting but decided that I didn't want to compost food in my back garden bc it would bring animals so I switched to Bootstrap. They were very helpful and responsive if I had any questions. I also liked that the receptacle was a nice size so it fit in my hall closet easily during the week. They pick up always went well and I was always delighted to get my compost. read more

I have used Bootstrap for a long time and love the service. It has cut down on our trash by a lot and I feel good about reducing our household's footprint. read more

After many years of leaving a 5-gallon plastic bucket full of my kitchen scraps on my door step every other Monday for the Bootstrappers to pick up, I'm sad to say that I'm moving out of Boston and, therefore, out of range of this pioneering compost company. I have loved knowing that my organic waste was being diverted from the landfill and turned into beautiful, useful organic compost. In addition to this incredible alchemy of turning waste into gardening gold, the Bootstrap folks have the best juju of any company I've ever encountered. They clearly take composting and environmental sustainability very seriously, but I love that they don't take themselves too seriously. Bootstrap Compost is a role model for us all! read more

I love Boostrap! Such a great team and truly a great sense of community. They always deliver a clean bucket to me and they are very responsive. Thank you for offering a great service. read more

Bootstrap is an amazing company! The customer service is top notch: every time I sent an email query or call they had me sorted out in no time and were very courteous. The service is unbeatable. They never missed a compost pickup due to weather or anything come rain, snow, blizzard, heat wave - the compost always got to where it needed to go. The cleanliness was also top notch. The compost buckets never smelled and were always sparkly clean when returned to me for reuse. I can rest assured that every penny I spent on this company was going to a good cause. Who doesn't like grassroots, bicycle powered composting? read more

A friendly, knowledgeable staff and dependable pickups has made Bootstrap Compost a delight to work with. They are always communicative, with helpful reminders to place your bucket outside, and easy contact options for billing services, etc. They're very flexible, as well. The bucket and compostable bag setup works very well, and makes it really easy to reduce waste in a residential kitchen setting, and getting a ready-to-use compost drop-off just feels like an added bonus! read more

Bootstrap rocks! They are consistent and on time, organized, communicative, and are involved in and care about the community. They have an every other week pick-up option in addition to every week, which is great if you don't produce enough compost every week. They make composting so easy! read more
