Well, we just love Stoney Bottom. That's it. I first…read morediscovered Stoney Bottom in 2022 when I was looking for a special place to surprise my sweetie with a romantic weekend away, possibly for our anniversary. While I loved the website and the vibe, I wasn't sure if I should book right away because it was a bit of a budget stretch on my end. After mulling it over a bit and calling the hosts to discuss their homemade breakfasts, I felt like I could not deny that it was a match, especially with my partner being a person interested in culinary delights as such-- I then booked an early spring weekend at Stoney Bottom. Everything about Stoney Bottom is both meticulously cared for, planned, and attended to, while at the same time peaceful, low key, and truly elegant. We were greeted with a delicious amenity upon arrival. These bites are perfect to kick back and enjoy on the porch. Leave all annoyances behind and just enjoy yourself at Stoney Bottom. We have been back a second time and can't wait to go back again soon. You are going to be very happy.

We had a cute little private deck that looked out over the meticulously kept gardens. It was the best place to drink our morning coffee and enjoy the amazing breakfast that they serve you. We loved the look of the cottage (great style!) and they had all the amenities we could want. We had the best weekend away from the kids enjoying the wineries of anderson valley and also the property of Stoney Bottom itself. There are some great paths to explore around the gardens. The second time we stayed it was with our two kids in the Little House. This time we did more kid friendly activities in Anderson Valley, and there are plenty of them! The Little house gave us plenty of room to spread out and make ourselves at home. The master bedroom is so pretty and the bed itself is amazing (all the beds are really comfy). We could cook dinners there with ease and the kids loved having their own room and the big TV to plop in front of after a day of exploring. Stoney Bottom's location is PERFECT.... its was very walkable to get to town for a bite to eat or pick up some wine from one of the cute stores (we loved Disco Ranch wine shop!!) or wineries like Pennyroyale. The family who runs this B&B are super helpful when you have any questions, but they stay out of your way during your stay. All while making you feel pampered and welcome. They provide great service and you can tell they love and care about their property and the people they host. Its a real special place. Look no further... you found your home away from home here.

Longer version: We booked a last-minute stay here when our plans changed and couldn't be happier. Ann returned our call quickly and, although they normally require a 2 night minimum, was willing to let us stay in Creekside for 1 night. Final bill must be paid by cash or check, no cards accepted (fine by us!) Creekside was a simple-but-beautiful space. Fenced yard, lots of windows, and literally right next to a creek. Our dog was in 7th heaven. We cooked in and found the little kitchen had everyone we needed (with the minor exception of olive oil). The next day, we explored more of the property with a delightful hike around Gina's trail. So many photo opportunities and a stunning view of the Anderson Valley, we wished we had stayed another night!

And, on a perfect spring evening on the deck with the sky fading to black over the distant hills and the temperature slowly cooling, it was magical. Started with olives, almonds and a carafe of local rose, which was delicious. This was followed by some outstanding bread with herb butter and caperberries, and local, Mendocino cured king salmon, which was a celiac special! It was delicious and herbaceous with avocado, caperberries and dill. This was followed by the salad greens with asparagus and bresaola. The bresaola was a great compliment to the greens and the asparagus was particularly unique - fresh, crisp, fresh and while not quite asparagus-y they were so good, a bit sweet. They were from Zuckerman Farms in the Sacramento valley. Next was a bowl of noodles and asparagus, ramps, very fresh fava beans (not firm or mushy!) and parsley, or the same over polenta instead of Italian pasta noodles for the gluten-free. It was simple, but fresh and rich and luxurious. Three for three at this point. The end point was duck confit with oranges and kumquats over wild rice with some greens. The duck was perfectly cooked, although a tad too salty. Nonetheless, we cleaned the plates. And, who would have paired rosemary with oranges (?) but it worked. The meal was finished with vanilla ice cream over meringue, topped with lemon curd, and fresh strawberries and rhubarb, both of which were not only fresh but redolent of the flavors that they appear to have otherwise lost. The wine list is small but we greatly enjoyed both the pinot rose from Scribe and the pinot noir from Drew. I remain very frustrated by all of their fees and add on costs. Yet, I don't feel cheated or that it was all unreasonable in the end.

Every detail, from the freshly cut flowers inside the room to the garden and living room in the main house, is purposeful and elegant. I also should mention the food, which is excellent! The culture of the Anderson Valley gracefully comes through with every bite. In fact, the food alone is worth the trip. I have been to many Michelin-rated restaurants. While the meal might not be accompanied by the chef's life story, everything about the food, the dining atmosphere, and the local ingredients is every bit Michelin quality. A few other tidbits: Kid friendly, plenty of space to play in the backyard, but no games, no pool. The sister restaurant, Offspring at the Farrer Building, across the street has the same food, but also pizza and a few other kid friendly options. Two onsite EV charging stations. They both work great; the front desk needs to remotely turn them on. Looking forward to my next stay!

Two points on money: California recently made real estate agents' commissions the buyer's concern as well as the seller's, opening them to negotiation. Anne was firm on her commission. The sellers covered it just like the old days. In any case, it was reasonable for our protracted and somewhat complex purchase. Many years ago when we bought a property in San Francisco the primary value that our agent provided was in negotiating the price after we found the property we wanted pretty much by ourselves. This time around, Anne provided general input on our initial offer, but explicitly did not tell us what counteroffers to make.
