Would highly recommend you save your money and avoid this restaurant. We ordered brisket that tasted two or three days old and was very dry, ribs that were petrified, my husband couldn't even pull them apart and chicken that was dry and had no flavor. The sides were old, cold fries, old cold Fried Okra and beans that tasted like they opened a can of pork and beans. Save your $40! read more

Wasted potential. We moved to the area a few years ago and have given this place multiple tries thinking it will get better. Unfortunately, it's only seemed to get worse. The ambiance is great--probably the best part of the place. The food is consistent; consistently mediocre. I'm not gonna try to judge the quality of the bbq itself because I'm aware there are many different styles of bbq and I'm no expert. That said, everything else seems to be frozen and reheated. The fryer oil definitely needs to be cleaned or replaced. I've saved the worst for last--the service. The individual at the counter has entered our order incorrectly 2/3 times recently and seems to be very easily confused or flustered. Food was bland and dry. All the employees need to take a day off and go to Kansas City to learn the way of the BBQ scene. The Sweet Heat BBQ sauce was good and a friend said they also liked the Smokey Sweet BBQ sauce. The infant we had with us enjoyed the store bought applesauce. The service was a big pile of trash. Why have waitresses when they don't do basic waitress duties. The ambiance was great before we found out we had to waitress ourselves. One modification was no lettuce on the cheeseburger and they couldn't even do that right. We stopped for a late lunch on our way north in Missouri. The place was almost empty, but it has great vibes. It looks like a big old barn on the outside. I loved the interior's decor. I ordered a half rack of ribs, beans and Cole slaw. The ribs were excellent, and the sides were good. My wife had a brisket melt. She said that she could have done without the cheese. The waitresses seemed to be too interested in their side conversations to acknowledge us when we stepped up to order. Our food came out in decent time. The waitress asked if we needed ranch, and she was able to bring that to us. However, when we asked for silverware we were told to go get it ourselves from the counter. I got the 3 meat platter. Ribs, amazing and fall off the bone. The brisket was dry. The pork was dry and no flavor!! The sides were better than the meats, and that's not good for a place all about BBQ. Everyone is super friendly and the service is absolutely amazing! The burnt ends are fantastic, the Spud rounds are the best ever! And I love the hash brown casserole! Besides being a great place to eat dinner it's a great place for events! We hosted my husbands 40th birthday here and it was perfect! We had a family dinner with close to 50 people upstairs and were all served within 20 mins of ordering! We hired a band and had at least 50 friends downstairs! Nice place in Bolivar to get BBQ! Their meats are tender and smoky. Unassuming place and friendly folks who greet you. The town is small so everyone knows everyone. Their fried okra is delicious! Walked in during lunch hour and it was almost deserted. Service was nice at the register. Drinks were tea and cola. Ordered burnt ends sandwich and pulled pork sandwich. While waiting for lunch, my companion noticed there was absolutely no odor of smoke or meats in the pit. When sandwiches came, neither the burnt ends nor the pulled pork had any detectable smoke. The ends were a bit dry and the pulled pork was very dry and literally had no flavor. The burnt ends appeared to have been off a pot roast instead of a smoker. The half dozen sauces were very much the same with the exception of the "smoky sweet" did have a little smoke flavor, and the original had a vinegar base flavor. The sweet/hot had no heat. The sandwiches were not offensive or anything, just flavorless. Could not recommend to anyone and will give other places a try next time. read more

We got a 4 meat platter. All the meats and sauces were very tasty. Potato salad is a stuffed baked potato type and was great, creamy cole slaw was good but hubby didn't care for it, smoked beans were good, sweet potato casserole was unbelievably addictive (I could've made a meal out of that alone). I'd leave zero stars if I could. Their menu with prices is posted prominently on the wall, but they charge you $5-6 more per meal. When we questioned it, we were told that they hadn't updated their prices in a long time. Then they "refunded" us a quarter despite the fact that we were overcharged around ten dollars, per their displayed prices. I have to assume this was a reference to "Here's a Quarter, Call Someone Who Cares." Rude and unprofessional. Don't eat here. read more

Good portions. Reasonable prices. Nice atmosphere. I had the 6-piece wings special with a side of onion rings, and they were tasty and well portioned. The couple who accompanied enjoyed their meal as well, which was a combination plate. All in all, a great place to visit in a small town with limited -- and distinctive -- eateries. The restaurant is so fun and cool on the inside and out. There are a lot of vintage posters and items. They only take cash, which is difficult but they have ATMs. The brisket and pork sandwiches are Ginormous! But most of the sides are very small. For instance, be warned, the beans, and casserole are literally in a handheld size cup. It is a super yummy place to stop for lunch (because they close at 3:00) and will really fill you up. read more

I tried a few different types of meats here at different times and was never thrilled. They always seemed a little dry and lacking flavor. Their salads are pretty good. Salads are on the higher side of average for bbq restaurants. But the best advice I ever received was from a young lady standing in line one day who told me to try the chicken. Boone's chicken wings are their salvation. They are smoked and served naked with all sauce on the side if at all. But this is the only place where I will pay a dollar per wing and feel like I'm getting my money's worth. Cook seems grumpy sometimes and the wait can be longer than desirable but it's totally worth it. I keep trying other places trying to find better wings but I am so far unsuccessful. read more

This my first review for a restaurant! I felt compelled to review because of what an unexpected surprise this place was to find along the highway home to KC. The brisket burnt ends were crazy good and I am use to good BBQ in KC!! I even purchased 2 lbs to take home. first off the decor is pretty good. Now, to the food. I had a burnt in sandwich, My wife had the pulled pork, and my Grandson ( the bottomless pit) had the all you can eat catfish special. for the three of us it was nearly $60.00. the burnt ends were dry even after I covered them in sauce. The pulled pork was the Same. The buns on both sandwiches were hard and toasted to cover the fact that they weren't fresh. My grandson ate three orders of Catfish. It was obviously frozen boxed breaded catfish. He had two pieces left and put it in our take out. The owner/manager approached and advised us for future reference that the catfish was all you could eat in the building. I work in bolivar and I eat lunch out every day. I will not step foot in Boones bbg ever again. I recommend spending your money at Roosters, or the new place on Springfield avenue. Pretty good food at pretty good prices. I got my order to go during the Coronavirus pandemic of 2020. If we would have eaten in it would have been a very nice atmosphere. We got a pulled pork sandwich on Texas toast, smoked wings, fries and fried pickles with a side of ranch, original bbq sauce, sweet heat bbq sauce and I think sweet smokey bbq sauce. The BBQ is okay if you don't want to drive to Springfield for good BBQ. The BBQ is greasy oftentimes. The sides are small portions and expensive for that reason. The house salad is "meh", lettuce with minimal additions. On the plus side it's one of the VERY few places in Bolivar, MO that serves beer. This is generally a skip it place for me because it's just not worth the price but with limited options of a small town I find myself not real pleased to be there on occasions. Great BBQ and great service at a good price! Boone's is also a great venue for a family gathering. They have a large room on the east side of the building that you can reserve for parties/gatherings. My wife and I had a 50th Wedding Anniversary luncheon there last Saturday with 30 people in attendance. The food (beef brisket, pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw, baked potatoes and dinner rolls) was amazing, and "Scott" took excellent care of our group! The cost was very reasonable, and there was no extra charge to use the room. I highly recommend them for a group of 30 people or less! read more

He had brisket burnt end style with beans and hash brown casserole, I had MO cheesesteak. We had lunch on a Sunday. The meat was fantastic, great crispy texture on my cheesesteak. His brisket was smokey and tender. The brisket was a little on the greasy side for me but didn't bother him in the least. The beans and hash browns were fantastic only critique is the sizes were not as big as we are used to. :) Probably appropriate for a lunch side however. They don't offer soda fountain drinks and I'm a soda water addict, this can make for a long lunch for me. Today I was pleasantly quenched by their brewed unsweet tea, they also had a sweet tea. Judging by the quality of the unsweet, I'm going to say it was good as well. The main reason I wanted to write the review however is to say that the staff was surprisingly attentive and hard working. I say surprisingly because not one of them could have been over 25. I saw the hostess deal with two food returns (both people were very obviously picky eaters and had not ordered straight from the menu) with finesse and all went home happy. A young man somehow read my mind while I was still at the table and offered me help when I was looking for a to-go cup. A spontaneous roadside stop turned into a great lunch. Hands-down, the food here is the best BBQ in Bolivar. Unfortunately, it's not the easiest BBQ to buy. They only take checks or cash, no credit cards whatsoever. While they do have an ATM, when you go to use it, there's a warning screen stating that Boone's BBQ Barn adds a $2.50 surcharge to every transaction performed at their ATM (and I knew my bank would add a $2.00 surcharge also!) I'm glad I had a check on me! I'd probably have gone back several times in the week I was in Bolivar if they'd had a Square account or something. (Do people still carry cash?? I can't remember the last time I carried cash on a daily basis.) read more
