I've been here, maybe twice befoe picking up some used CD's and books. BookOff is a used book, movie, gaming, and music store. They are on Cooke Street with 3 dedicated stalls in a shared lot. Entrance/exit is on Cooke. They buy as well as sell. They do offer new collectibles such as Funko Pops and figurines. They also have a sizeable collection of Japanese books, manga, games, movies, anime, and records. They have a discount area in all or most sections...$1 books, music, etc. I am not sure when their buying hours are but I am sure it is posted in-store. Today, I picked up a Heatwave hits collection on CD - I have an older vehicle witha CD player. The selection is good, but I feel the prices are high compared to what it used to be. They have many records and figures, a moderate amount of Japanese kids books, and many English books. The service is so-so. They leave the footstools around, so it is impossible to navigate with a stroller and probably impossible if you use a wheelchair as well. read more

They have a few parking stalls in the front of the store but was all filled so street metered parking is usually available nearby. The salesclerk working on this day was super helpful spending a lot of time in helping us find something. Prices for books and DVD's can start as low as $1.00 and super reasonable. BookOff is a unique niche store offering used books, media, figurines and electronics. They are currently located in Kaka'ako in a small area with parking in front. Selling process: You can drop off your items and they will give you an estimated time to process what you've provided. I brought about 6 boxes worth of books and dvds. From there, they purchased about 1-2 boxes worth for a little less than $20. It took about 30 minutes for them to go everything without anyone ahead of me in line. I received a text when everything was ready and you have up to 7 days to return. You can take back the items you don't want or they will offer them for free to customers out front. Buying: I did not buy anything while I was there but I was impressed with the selection in the store. They have a lot of items at good prices. However, I feel like this shop is best for gamers or those interested in unique figurines. They had a large funko pop selection and a lot of old games. The store is clean and has cold Air Con. The gem of the store in my opinion is the discounted section where you never know what you might find. I immediately fell in love with BookOff. The selection might be small, and a tad bit difficult/confusing to navigate, but to walk out of a book store with three brand new hardcovers for $3 speaks volumes to me. My husband is bound to be annoyed with the amount of books I'm about to bring home every month. Even outside of the $1 book section, the prices are really good and challenge big companies like Amazon. Seriously, those three books alone saved me $63 (yes, I did the math because I'm a nerd). I also want to shoutout the employees. While I never needed their help or anything, I couldn't help overhear their banter while I perused, and they just seemed so cool and informed. Love BookOff. This is my go to store for classic games and figures, I have not been able to find "Tak and the Power of Juju", but every other game has been a success. I frequently come here for Pokemon figures and Gundam figures. Christmas time? A breeze to find a gift for the niece. I appreciate the large selection of Manga and book too. read more

My daughter wanted to come here to look at the manga books. This store is huge. Bigger than the Pearlridge location in the mall. I walked the whole store and ended up in the CD section. I scored two Linkin Park CD's. My favorite band and a tattoo I got of their symbol. I can't seem to find my first CD. The other CD I have not heard only half the songs on there. Still good condition though. Not bad for $7.00. I ended up buying $56 worth of manga books for my daughter which is a whole set. The things I buy for my daughter lol Selection seems to be huge here. I thought I would never come across Linkin Park CD's but I did. Prices seem to be fair. Not bad for what I paid for everything I got. The employees were okay. No enthusiasm whatsoever but at least the guy was nice. Parking sucks because there's only limited spaces. Only negative about that. There's metered parking across the street. read more

Lovely little store. Very easy to get from the bus stop that is right after McKinley high school. I went here to look at the video games. Found what I was looking for. Price wise some of the more "rarer" games are a pricey. But, that is how they make money. Store is easy to navigate and clean. Now I've come to sell stuff today Two of girls isis and another girl was with it today . I assisted them with what i had. some had a few pieces we were careful to Handl. Used Books, CDs, DVDs, plushies, new collectables, anime, ...and more! My baby sister was freaking out when I brought five boxes of CDs and DVDs to our mom's house. My little sister is into decluttering. (Wait until she sees my boxes of books!!! Haha!) My sister from Colorado said that I don't have to get rid of everything. Our middle sister suggested Book Off. Middle sister has done business here in the past. She said that she had gotten around 50 cents a book, so - don't expect a lot. That's a good warning. When Peter Y. mentioned Book Off - because my neighbor uses this business - I had to think more about this option because I'm running out of space. It's challenging to let go and sort out items. How does one decide what to keep and what to give away? I had to buckle down, pack up, and give it a try. I dragged my mom with me for motivation. She commented that she finished all of the books that I had lent to her and was looking for more books. Great! We found Book Off easily, using GPS. This was the Kaka'ako location. There's another Book Off at Pearlridge - which seems somewhat inconvenient. The Kaka'ako location has parking right in the front of the shop... in a shared lot. Versus Pearlridge - I would have to walk through the mall to get to the store... Hmmm... I might get distracted along the way... Inside of the Kaka'ako location, Book Off is clean, neat, and very organized! Mom discovered the Dollar Section - one of her favorite authors was there and she grabbed five novels! That should keep her busy for a couple of weeks! I dropped off my bag of books at the counter, signed a contract, and browsed around. I was told to return in about five hours because it was rather busy on a Sunday. No problem! I saw the Japanese books area, collectables aisle, and plushies bin! Cute! I took mom home and packed another bag of books. When Book Off texted me that my payment was ready, I went back to the store, picked up my cash, and dropped off another bag of books! Yay! Now I have incentive to purge. Even though it's not what I originally paid, a little bit of money is better than nothing! ...and I have more space for new books... Haha! read more

I can't remember the last time I purchased a book but we were invited to a baby shower recently and they asked for a book (new or used) versus a card so we had to find a book appropriate for a child. Books on investing or The Art of War wouldn't be fun reading for the expecting parents or the child. This was such a great idea and they said that when they read the book, their child can think of those who were at the baby shower. With the day approaching, nothing could be shipped and arrive before the baby shower so we thought about giving a used book a second chance at life. Thanks to Yelp, we found BookOff Kaka'ako Store. They sell used books, games and toys. There is free parking and the store is very well organized. I was able to find a book in no time and was on my way to the baby shower. Good thing I had a pen in my car and was able to write a short message in the front of the book. BookOff has been one of my favorite chains, especially as we've lost just about every new bookstore in the city. This one has changed locations multiple times, from the old Shirokiya to Don Quijote and now their new one in Kaka'ako. This is definitely the best so far; it's their own dedicated storefront with lots of room for shelves and for people to browse. It's located behind Queen Street and Aloha Beer Company; they have their own free parking lot right outside, but there's also tons of street parking around. If you're on a food and beer walk of the neighborhood, this is a fun place to stop. The store is kept well lit, super clean and organized. BookOff is all used books, games, media, and toys, but the condition mostly leans toward like-new. Prices are reasonable for the condition and quality, but they know what things are worth so rare and out-of-print items will be priced as appropriate. Some things like collectibles I feel are too high; top dollar from eBay doesn't always equate to the actual value of an item of less condition. That being said, I'm sure you'll still be able to find some treasures. They also buy all types of media for cash or higher amount of store credit. READ BEFORE GOING!!!!!! For one I like that's it's a good place to buy used books and movies and the prices are decent for used stuff. BUT if you're going to sell you books DO NOT AND I MEAN DO NOT SELL ANYTHING TO THEM! I came in with some older books all in brand new condition and they were gonna buy them for $0.15-$0.50 each which is a huge rip off. If you don't need the money and just wanna get rid of stuff this is the place to go but if you're looking to make some money back DO NOT GO HERE! Amazon offers an option to resell your stuff with them and you can always post them on FB market if you wanna make some money back. Overall I like coming to shop here and shop only! The service is great there were only 2 people but they were still quick and friendly with service! And please remember don't be mad at the workers for the prices if you decide to sell, you have an option to either sell to them at their offering price or you can decide to take your stuff and try to sell elsewhere if the price doesn't sit right with you! They don't make the rules or the prices the company does and they're just doing their job. They give you an offer and YOU decide for yourself if you need the money or if you just really need to get rid of your items. Which is why I said if you need the money don't sell here, only bring stuff that you really don't care about and just want to get rid of as long as you don't mind not making back any money. read more

If you've ever been to the Don Quijote near Ala Moana, you may have come across a little bookstore inside called BookOff. It's not there anymore! BookOff has packed up and moved into its own space with plenty of more room for its books, manga, movies, and etc. This store is located in Kaka'ako in a small strip along Cooke St, near Queen St. It's easy to miss, but they have a huge, noticeable banner hanging from the trees outside. The previous tenants was Masako Formals if any of you been there. I was curious if (more so hoping) this BookOff will become similar to the BookOff in Pearlridge because that store carries more variety and sells and buys electronics. But the BookOff in Kaka'ako is like it's previous store in Don Quijote, just 4 times bigger. If you're into Manga and Japanese reading materials, they have a huge collection of it. There's also the typical genre of English books along with aisles of Funko, toy figures, video games, and etc. You can sell your items here for cash. Just don't expect a huge payout as they usually purchase items an average of 7 times lower than its value. Better than nothing! The staff are the same from before. Everyone seems excited about being in a new store and new environment. Overall, if you love books and manga, then BookOff is a great place. Everything is very well organized and priced correctly. You may come across some books that are selling for a dollar and see the same book selling for $5, so make sure to check out the dollar section! Just thrilled they have a new home in Kaka'ako and it's even better! Conveniently located on the corner of Cooke and Kawaiahao just a block from Kapiolani Blvd it's a shared spot with other retailers in a small complex and does have a decent amount of parking available. You can find just about everything and more in my opinion a much larger area, they with two doors for access not sure if one is for entrance and exit there's no dedicated sign for that. Great place and set up so delighted and will be back when my ankle heals so that I may browse at my leisure comfortably...thank you!! read more

This is a cute use bookstore. I just so happen to be walking in the area exploring. And I ran into the store. They had a large selection of Asian books and videos. They had English speaking books. They even had a dollar rack. They had a large selection of DVDs. And collectible toys. I had a ball in the cookbook section. Bought a few things for my husband. And came back the next day to buy more things. The people in the store were super friendly. How it works is that you can bring in your use things, and they will choose a price and pay you for them. Came here for the Funkos and it did not disappoint! I think they expanded their Funko section so they're kind of all over the place. If you were looking for a specific one I think it would be best to ask. They did have a great variety of small used Japanese toys that would be great for a budget friendly gift. First time at a BookOff US location (Sep 2021). It's easy to find a BookOff in any Tokyo neighborhood with books, DVDs, games, figures, and other goods and media, so I'm happy that locations are open in the States. The selection here isn't quite as good as in Japan but that is to be expected. This location is well organized and easy to browse. This is the best used book store I've found on the island!! The selection was great, with a good mix of popular books & underground ones. I found several books that I've been looking for for months. The prices were fantastic. They have an impressive amount of books for sale for $1. The rest of the books were all between $5-10 depending on the popularity & condition of the book. I left with 7 books (almost all were like new) for $35. One minor critique I'd have is that the books are not very well organized alphabetically or by genre. This place was great for casual browsing but looking for a particular book/author was a little hard. But honestly I like my bookshops a little chaotic- that's how you find the hidden gems! I noticed they also had a very large selection of CDs, movies, graphic novels/manga. I'd highly recommend this place! read more

If you haven't been to a book off, this is for you . I came here in a whim during my lunch break, not expecting much of anything. Wasn't sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. I'm one who enjoys reading so I was inclined to see what a book off is about. From what I've seen, it's interesting! There are a lot of books. But what stood out was how organized their space is, categorized genres, accessible and well kept the inventory. Other than books they have specialty merch like: gaming consoles, controllers, limited edition figurines, software games and even board games! I'm sure they have more that I haven't discovered as I haven't walked through the entire store the past couple of times I was there. But from what I gather, this place was a good find. Perfect for those who want to browse and be in a quiet place and be receptive to whatever pops out at you. I left with a book each time I went. I've yet to try selling some books to them which is a neat service they offer -We'll see. If you enjoy media of any sort, this location is one to visit just to say you've been to. read more

I know when they sell ONE of the figure the going to get there money back and then some. Plus they figure they sell is eBay prices. This was a test for them, and they failed. I really like this store for used books. It's interesting that this store was rated more expensive than the non-profit book shops I have been to because I would disagree and have found some books to be cheaper at better conditions and selections. The only thing that is probably on the pricier side would be their anime collectibles and video games which is understandable since those type of second hand items do retain or appreciate in value. As for books I would say you can find really good bargains. read more
