I am always on the hunt for educational toys that challenge my children. We just happened to walk by this store so I decided to check it out to see if they had any interesting toys. I was blown away by their selection. It's not a large store but it's jam packed with a variety of toys. They have a lot of great STEM items and toys for my older children (which is hard to find in most places). As for their prices, I feel like they are competitive with other retailors. On the search for a children's toy that my sister would approve of for her kids -- that's where Thinker Things came into play! Located in Kahala Mall, this locally owned toy store has toys, books, games, and collectables with a focus on education. My nephew is growing out of his dinosaur phase, so it's not as easy as buying anything dino-related for him anymore. It was great being able to walk through and explore all the different educational toys. The planetarium projector is what caught my eye and would make an awesome gift. To be honest, when I came in - it was mostly young adults shopping for themselves... and we were all on the hunt for the same thing. Unfortunately for us, the Sonny Angels were sold out and they did not have any information on when they would get in another shipment. They did have a tons of smiski and calico critters --- which I know a lot of people are collecting nowadays. Things that does make you think... One of the places if time is available a favorite stop of mine, located near the theaters Thinker Things is a place I wished I have growing up as the items here are like reading the inner child of mine. Filled with the kawaii anime in stationary, totes and those mystery boxes all are the fun items and the boxes of puzzles and craft kits that even piqued my interest as it's a fun start without investing in too deep as craft/hobbies can be costly to gather all items...this is something for a quick and fun ideas. Probably cause I do love this place it's one that I do shop for gifts as well, now who wouldn't want make "Book Nook"...I was really tempted to be honest, and the staff here are a delight to help you with your questions I was just so pleased. I visited Thinker Things to get some Sonny Angels today and I had a really great experience. The staff is so nice and helpful!

8-18-21 we came with our sweetie to this store in Kahala Mall. She had asked me a few weeks earlier if I could bring her the next time I watched her. Probably my first time in there. It was mind boggling to see so many cool items for her to get excited about. In my mind I thought it was high end Danish wooden toys but it wasn't. She ended up with glow rocks, one from a different rack that looked like pyrite, 3 pop its, a package of thick colorful strings that looked like long gummy worms, and a squishy glob. She tells me she hopes it's less than $30. When the cashier says $41 something she looks at me- it's fine I told her. She was thrilled. She knew about all the items she got and could describe its function or what you do with it.. She had to selectively decide what she really wanted and what she was willing to put back. I was very proud of her. My credit card was happy too. read more

I bought a Magic set: "150 tricks" for an 8- year old boy. Cost with tax - about $52. My only complaint is that they refused to gift wrap. They used to with past purchases. This was a high priced item!! Next time, I will consider taking my business elsewhere because of their attitude. read more

For a small store, there are plenty of new and old school games that bring back that family time interaction instead of the zombie effects of today's phones and interactive video games. I bought a nice full sized wooden chess set here last Black Friday for 20% off and this year I got the same deal on a small wooden magnetic travel chess set. The friendly staff here also has a frequent buyer reward program that gives you a discount after so many purchases! For something that cost $100 you would think it would last but we set it up, ran it a few times and both cars connection to the track crapped out. In an already fun-filled shopping center, Thinker Things adds to the appeal of Kahala Mall because of its silly, creative, and entertaining merchandise! Along with its sister store Thinker Toys with its younger-targeted items, Thinker Things has toys and curiosities galore. At the entrance of the store, they have general interest and gimmicky items ranging from Japanese kendama to beer and shot glasses with silly themes. They have a good selection of LEGO and Nanoblocks. They also have board games, mostly on the mentally stimulating side including solitary puzzles. The steel models are some of my favorite activities to do. Blind boxes also take up a good amount of the store; there's literally something for every interest. The store is well organized, but very small for the foot traffic. The employees never seem that friendly unless you're buying something. Prices are also at a premium over other options, so be careful what you're buying. read more

Can't walk around this store with my mini me's (since there are explicit words/phrases that they could read... and I don't feel like explaining to them what WTF means...) Came in on a whim to look for small items to use in my Bridal Shower gift and I am a happy customer! Went there before christmas. The gentleman was very helpful and seemed to know the product. I bought the bubble lick make your own flavor bubbles. It was a total hit for my kids. Each made their own flavor and they thought it was hilarious to try and catch each others bubbles. From fruit punch to root beer they had a blast. Each time I pass this store I've always want to check it out! Finally for the the first time I stepped into the store, yesterday I tried to shop for a birthday gift, as we walked into the store we didn't see a employee working. Finally saw her as she was busy bringing items to the back. She finally saw us but didn't even greet us, just looked at us and continued to do whatever she was doing. Didn't check up on us or asked if we needed help. Spent about 10 minutes in the store and she probably went back and front to the back about 3-4 time. We were ready to check out but I seen a item catch my eye. The lady was was ready to ring us up but when we walked away she rolled her eyes and continue to do what she was doing bring things to the back. I decided it wasn't worth spending money here. Thinker Things is Thinker Toy's big brother. It like Thinker Toy's has a mish mash of puzzles, post-it notes, blind boxes, and more. When I passed by the other day they had the cutest wall accessories. Plastic flowers that you can stick on your wall to decorate your room, jewelry holders, and coat/clothes racks. I completely nerd out in this store, there are so many things I want to buy as presents but I have to make sure I don't keep it for myself - there's nothing here anyone really NEEDS - it's a bunch of funny quirky stuff you just WANT because it's cool/funny/weird/quirky. The prices are definitely above what you'd pay ordering some of the same things on Think Geek or Urban Outfitters, but it's about immediate gratification (or usually in my case - shoot, I need a birthday present, stat!) I love how Thinker Toys had the guts to open up right across from a national chain toy store (KB, may it rest in peace) at Kahala Mall, and I was excited when the people who operate Thinker Toys opened up a slightly grown-up version, Thinker Things, right next door. I was fascinated by the inventory of quirky items they brought in from Japan (wind-up sushi), Seattle (Accoutrements products, anyone?) and everywhere else. What I love less is the lack of customer service here. New Year's Eve, 2009. It's party night, so I'm at the mall before closing, looking for a good party game. I wander into Thinker Things and browse their board games section. The tiny store is empty except for two employees and me. Employee #1: "Ugh. Is it time to go home yet?" Surely her co-worker won't feed into this conversation when a customer is in the store, right? Employee #2: "Only an hour-and-a-half left!" Sigh. That was it. I left . . . after the two girls snickered at me for asking whether they had Cranium. I SO want to love this store, but I'm also totally averse to overtly bad customer service. Cool store for all ages, I come here sometimes for myself or for my 5 year old. I am still waiting on a back order of a cards game called "Sushi GO!" as I should have bought an extra card set for myself. They are really good about asking me if I need any assistance or if I am looking for a particular item, they are willing to go out of their way to help me find it. The cashiers are very nice and courteous, and always with a smile as good customer service should be. They have items for adults like funny notepads which I could not resist buying in the past. Cute post its to organizer stickers and trinkets as well. It's a good little gag shop too, with adult humor behind some of the products. They have a select board games here too, I wish they had SCRABBLE, as I have been looking for that board game for months everywhere!! I guess I can't have everything! They have little kits for kids to create and do as well. So many things to buy, the prices are a little above average but worth it, in my opinion. They are sister shops with the shop next door to them "Thinker Toys" of course that shop is geared more toward the younger ones. I love the stuff here. I'd rate it a 4 because a lot of the products are novel. And by novel, i mean you'd find it in the "cool-hipster-apartment-stuff" section of Urban Outfitters next to the ironic sunglasses and outdated cameras. Anyway, it's pricey but fun for a gag. Thinker Things is probably the one of the best shops at Kahala Mall. Lots of unique and quirky finds here. They have stuff you would probably find on the Urban Outfitters website in the gifts section. Some of the things are kind of overpriced though. I saw a duck tea infuser that was super cute and I wanted it, but wasn't about to pay $13 for it. LOL. I also saw a plunger wine stop for $10. I have gone to this store many times and every time I go to this store the woman is always rude. I see her roll her eyes at me and she has also told me not to touch the products (before COVID) if I wasn't going to buy anything. I bought a lot of items such as pens, post it's, and a rain drop light. The items were overpriced and low quality the pens leaked and they would only let me return it after I complained that it was leaking and said "these pens always leak." You have a better chance on Amazon. read more

Awesome store! The workers there were so wonderful in helping me find all my christmas gifts. They have so much stuff to choose from that I was able to get all my shopping done in one store! Not the most extensive store out there but there are quite a few awesome things here for the kid/tween/teen and even adults. I love the funny post-its and the quirky office items. My son loves the puzzles and the activities books/experiment books. Considering the mall has no other toy store, they could benefit by bringing in a few "average" /popular toys here and there. I've had a couple of less than pleasant experiences in this store recently. A few months ago I was waiting in line to return an item I bought a couple of weeks earlier (with a valid receipt, of course), when an employee, a tall Filipino woman, wanted to pass between myself and the person in front me. Instead of saying anything such as "excuse me" or "pardon me", she simply put her hand up between us and made a few quick fanning motions, as if she were brushing me aside. Quite rude. Great toys and novelty items for all ages (including adults). Unfortunately it's like Toys R Us where parents just let their kids play in the store. It's a small place so it can get overcrowded pretty quick. If your lazy like me, the best part is the free gift wrapping for purchases over $20.
