Other Realms is located in the back side of the Nimitz Center. Parking can be a little tight on busy weekdays but if you head straight past Eagle Cafe on the left, there's a smaller parking lot that usually has enough open stalls that doesn't compete with the other shops in the front. This store has absolutely everything from comic books, collectibles, MTG/TCG, D&D items and books, Warhammer, and also board games. Honestly if you are into any of those then this place is the place to come to. The absolute widespread level of inventory is only matched by how friendly the staff is and how comfortable of an environment they've created to spend your time there. They even put on events on nearly a daily basis depending what you're into. Pricing is very reasonable and I do majority of my shopping here as it is extremely competitive with online pricing. Not to mention being able to find the product that you're looking for locally is hard to find for most shops. The gameplay areas of the store are clean, tidy, and do not smell (yes... we know the stereotype of hobby shops). Plus they're always willing to spend the time to explain and help you get into any of the games they sell. I haven't played MTG for decades since I was a child and they were so kind to take me thru the differences from what I knew then to the large and vast game that it has become. They also make it simple to sign up on their website for Prerelease events and specialty game nights. Wow never knew comic stores was so big other than Jellys. They are located way behind eagle cafe next to (I believe) a korean church. Real orderly (not surprised) and clean large comic book and other fantasy games. They seem to have alot of employees working and stocking. It seemed like a lot of them may have been lacking in social skills or customer service. Upon entering I stood at the main check out counter and a handful of workers looked up saw me and did not acknowledge me or call somebody to help me and nobody smiled. I was about to walk out feeling I was outside to their realm because essentially I was! Just came by to get a gift card. My visit left me with the impression from my experience as "what are you doing here outsider" or "you can wait we dont need your business" kind of vibe. Amazing DnD selection! I got DnD tarot cards and a beautiful set of gemstone dice. While there, I had a delightful conversation with two personable staff members. If you're looking for obscure board games, supplies for D&D or (of course) comic books, this is the place. A friend of mine invited me to play D&D. I've never played but was interested. I came here and their D&D stuff is not in short supply. They have so much stuff. The books (yes, more than one) take up almost an entire wall. They have glass displays filled with dice. Beware, the dice is what gets you. They have rooms available where people can play as well. I almost always hear people playing back there. Aside from D&D, they have a lot of board games. A big selection. If you're looking for a new board game to share on your next game night, you'll have a pretty good chance of finding something here. The same goes for comic books. A great hobby store that has everything from comics, to board games, ttrpgs, miniatures, action figures and everything in between. This was my home for comics every Wednesday for years before I had kids. Have been coming to this shop since they used to be at Ward Warehouse back in the day and even when they were on Kapiolani ages ago before Ala Moana Mall took over that whole area. Staff is always super friendly and helpful and the owners, Charlie and Loretta are great people as well. Like many other hobby stores they have a loyalty program in which you earn points per dollar spent and they build up until you get a certain amount off your next purchase. Sorry, don't remember the exact details as I'm not nearly as frequent of a customer as I used to be since having kids. The only issue I know people have with this shop is a lot of their stuff is sold for over MSRP. Especially if it's a hard to get item like the recently released Disney Lorcana. Not sure if it's their choice or the distributor that sets the prices l, but just something to be aware of if you're headed there. read more

This comic store is pretty noticeable on a side street behind a strip mall (Eagles Cafe) on opposite end. It's a good size store large area of games...like half the store. They have figurines of whatever certain popular games you can paint with section if supplies. You can buy some figurine such as a Star Wars section by itself. However, I had purchased a Thor/Sif combo pack for $50...hard to get on the island, but tried looking in the past and couldn't find Thor with his hammer. I went online $20-$99 online now? Jeez, you can include some postage...around $30? However, I purchased for convenience wise. Their overhead must be a lot...somewhat pricey. Comic prices are about same price at all three stores. The other half of store is loaded. They do practice masks wearing for all and provide hand sanitizers before touching anything. Also, they have a membership which you can use points towards your purchases. So, check this place out! read more

Hi-ya! So mixed feelings about this hobby shop. We came here while on vacation in Hawaii a few years ago (right when covid hit--don't judge as we already paid for the package and only one case identified at the time)--and anyway we were here just last week. While we were here before the same great atmosphere and amazing selection--and we got a few books, small stuff and a t-shirt. Good memory. This time round same feeling, but my wife asked to see the size and look of a tank top they had their name and logo on. It was enclosed in a plastic wrap that was sealed only by the sticky tape/film along an edge. They had no samples of what it looked like outside the package, as a way to verify the size (you know a large varies and so does a medium). The staff couldn't find an open example and made no motion to let us open and see what it looked like (take note it's packaged in a square shape). My wife passed on the purchase not wanting to deal with the inconvenience of a return for a $20ish dollar tank top if it didn't fit. She wanted to get one as she really liked this hobby shop because of the kid's reaction--but no more. That experience left a really sour experience for her and as we left after a small purchase of so yu go oh cards for my youngest she said, "never again". I didn't experience the same feeling, but after thinking about it, I felt the same. However, it's worth noting their Warhammer 40k section is very very solid. You can build out a base army with elites without going online (that's what made the 3 star instead of 1). read more

Searched yelp for some places to buy board games and stumbled upon other realms. Unless you know where you're going this place is pretty hard to find. The entrance is on the back side of Nimitz center... not the Nimitz side. I actually found it clean and organized. There were so many board games I had never heard of before. I'm not really a board game person, but this place had a huge selection. We selected a couple we haven't heard of. They have games of all different price ranges. The only kinda junk part is that you kinda need to know what you're looking for because it's not like you can return a game after you've opened it and played it. The staff was nice and helpful. They also sell other things. Like figurines and crafty things for gamers. The Nimitz center is pretty old and confusing to drive through. #100 of 2017 Loretta and Charlie, proprietors of Other Realms, really know how to care for their customers. They put together this event for their customers. Gathering up local artist in our area to celebrate National Comic Shop Day. It could've been about them just have a mad free for all sale. They invited several artist to appear today with the ability to sell their products. There was no consignment fee or table fee. It was a fantastic move to support local talent, introducing them to regular and new customers, All the artists loved and said they would do it again. Each artist had several things to sell. Books they work on, exclusive prints, traditional prints. Autographs were free. Special commissions were taken and appreciated. We look for the next NLCD next year. Thou shall enter and enjoy. One of the few surviving comic shops on island. Before I found this place, I kept myself busy at Tower Records and Jelly's. Man so long ago. Anyway the place is about the same size as when they use to be at Ward Center and they kept all the cool stuff. I love the child hood memories old comic books bring. Not the silver age stuff but the story lines and art from the 80s and 90s. Those old comics are displayed on the wall add a way to bridge the old style past with the new generation of art. And the story lines today are so complex and up with current issues. See Mom I knew those old comic books would be worth something some day. They sell figures, paint, cloths, and games for all geeks of any age. And the staff is really helpful and really cheerful. Who won't be happy working with comic books. They never run out of reading material since new material comes in every week. TIP: Wednesday is new comic day so if you are not a die hard collector come Thursday. They hopefully still have the issue you want. Just pay extra for a variety. TIP 2: Remember to pick up a free weekly newsletter for storylines on upcoming issues and events. I am part of their loyalty program so I get cash credit for every "x" amount I spend. I can't really remember how much. I'm reading a Spider-Man issue. Parking is a hassle. If you can't get anything on the 1st level, you will have to park in the roof. And for some reason all the stalls are really skinny. So a large vehicle will have some problems. I've had my eyes fixed on the comic books for some time now. In fact, I'm pretty obsessed with reading. So why not get books with lots and lots of pictures in them. Here they have tons of that. I specifically like to look at the walking dead comic books. They're not exactly like the tv show but it's still an exciting read. I finished the 3rd compendium in a day and half. It's that good. Volume 25 is the next book after compendium 3 in case you were wondering. Don't think the 4th compendium will be out soon, til then, I'm buying by the volume. It's $14.99 per volume here. I know...it's a treat. Lol cause $14.99 for a small book is kind of a lot to me. But it's worth it. Oh! And if anyone finds any books on Negan's story let me know. I'm desperate to look into his character without buying a bunch of the smaller comic books with only a little bit of his story (example: The "Here's Negan"). The front entrance is not handicap accessible (a few steps up with no hand railing), but the back entrance IS accessible (locked so just knock on the door and they will be happy to let you in!). Ambience: Geek heaven! This new location is so much bigger than their original location (at Ward Warehouse). The shop is a favorite hangout when pro artists are in town... you can see their signed artwork adorning the walls. Even Stan Lee (yes THAT Stan Lee!) loves the store. Service: There are always multiple employees who are eager to ask if you're finding everything ok. They will also help you order items and start a "pull list" to hold your comics for pickup. Events happen every night (mostly gaming events) and special workshops and tournaments popup regularly. With "Jelly's" and "Gecko's Books" gone... "Other Realms" is the last of the "large in size" comic book stores left on Oahu. At least to my knowledge. They have a large inventory of both new comics and old back issues. The prices on the back issues are reasonable. They also have all of the accessories such as comic bags, boards, & bins. I noticed they also have a lot of RPG games, miniatures, and other accessories. The staff there are the most courteous I've seen compared to other similar stores... and are always willing to help whenever asked. The normal stereotype of a comic book store I've seen at OTHER places in the past are grumpy employees who don't like to be bothered with any questions... unless you are one of their friends. I have never seen anything like that at "Other Realms". I've observed the staff at "Other Realms" help any customers who have questions on comic books or games. I like the idea that all who enter the store must wash their hands with the sanitizer at the door. Especially if customers will be looking at and touching the inventory. So far I've never had a negative experience at "Other Realms" and find it relaxing to spend an hour or so there looking at their comic book inventory and buying any key issues I was looking for. read more

I am not a huge comic fan or even a nerd in that sense. My best friend is, he took me here when he was on his searches for certain comics. Now if you're into that I'm sure you also have your days on comic releases and you'll go to comic stores on those days for searches of your wants. I've never understood that and I still won't. Aside from the other comic store in kaimuki, this was one of his other stop and I never knew it existed. It's very hidden in the back of nimitz center. It was nice and clean in here.... He took me to ward and I was like omg.... it looks like an antique store. This one was clean and he then tells me lots of artist comes here sometimes for autograph signing. He attends comic con and gets his comics sealed... He had to educate me on that. I didn't know that comics after being sealed would be worth so much money! This location has many other things not just comics, you can find figurines, vinyl, games and many other things. Since my best friend has moved, I rarely come here unless some other friends have some events. Now if you're trying to find yourself a nerd boyfriend or girlfriend.... One of the largest gaming and comic shops on the island. You can find almost any trade as they have a deep catalogue of current comics. Tables can be reserved and they have a standing schedule of games. Expansion packs are also available and you can order them if they don't have them in stock. Special Events are hosted here. Different writers and artists frequent for an autograph/photo op session and those are organised up to a point. Some of the staff can be off putting and elitist which, sad to say, is par for the course when frequenting a specialty shop. Parking is also an issue. There's a parking structure for the location but it's mostly for tenants and not customers. You could chance getting towed with assigned parking stalls right across the shop but there is a nearby lot for additional parking with a short walk. read more
