I was a walk-in for shellac manicure. I waited for around 5 minutes for the ladies before me to finish. The technicians there were all really friendly and welcoming. Lisa, my nail technician, did a fabulous job. She first recommended me to go with an opaque white instead of the shimmery translucent one I chose in the beginning. The effects were great! I don't see any reviews of permanent eyeliner done by Book Beautician (even though they offer the service), so I think it is especially important to share my experience on here: I had contacted Book Beautician via text to inquire about their permanent eyeliner service. I decided to not go with them in the end due to their lack of professionalism, communication, and information about the eyeliner application process. As such, I do not trust them to get my eyeliner done, especially on such a vulnerable part of my body that will be there permanently AND done for the first time. The only reason why I knew about them and contacted them in the first place was because an acquaintance had posted on her Facebook and IG the permanent eyeliner that she got done by Aline. Firstly, I thought I was texting with Aline (I think she is the only person in Book Beautician who does eyeliner). I kept addressing her as Aline until I asked her to show me some photos of her eyeliner work. That was when Oksana (the owner of Book Beautician) finally said that I have been speaking with Oksana, not Aline. BIG WTF. I felt like a fool. Secondly, when I asked Oksana if I could get Aline's number, she said that Aline doesn't give out her number. Another big WTF. Well, if that was the case, then why did Aline post her contact number on her IG?! It makes absolutely no sense to be only allowed to contact the so-called boss (Oksana) who isn't even the one doing the eyeliner work. Customers need DIRECT REASSURANCE from the permanent makeup aesthetician doing work on their eyes to build trust. Oksana sure didn't seem to care about that. Another BS thing that Oksana said when I asked if I can contact Aline after the procedure if I have any questions was that I am to contact Oksana only (YET AGAIN), unless Aline gives me her contact info. What does Oksana know about the work Aline is to perform on her clients and about after care?!!! Good thing I contacted Aline's number directly the next day as I was having none of this BS. She picked up the phone and said that I can contact her. I hate having to deal with an in-between person such as Oksana. Such a waste of my time. Thirdly, when I shared a photo of the kind of eyeliner I wanted done to both Oksana and Aline, neither of them addressed it. Thanks for really reassuring the customer and giving great customer service. NOT! Also, when I asked Oksana what the process of the procedure will be like, she barely gave me an adequate response. She just said that anesthesia will be put on me and that Aline will be explaining everything. *rolls eyes* Thanks for really making me feel reassured, especially being the in-between person to contact. She also did not tell me an important detail and that was that the eyeliner procedure did NOT include tax. That was very misleading. If I hadn't asked, I wouldn't have known. Both Oksana and Aline's communication was very terse and transactional and felt as though I was pulling teeth out of them. I am SO glad that I decided to not go with them. I would not trust them to get my eyeliner done. I'm the potential customer here who you are getting money from. Put some effort! Luckily, I found a place called Toronto Beauty House. The owner Amrit is very kind, detailed oriented and provided me with lots of information about the eyeliner procedure and even had a video consultation with me. Spent $120 for shellac manicure and regular pedicure plus $5 tip for the lady doing my nails and $5 tip for the lady giving me a pedicure. For my manicure, the lady nicked a finger not once, but twice to the point that it bled. It took a while for my nails to recover. Whenever I took a shower, it felt like my nails were going to come off - and these were my real nails. I was waiting for months for my nails to grow because my nail plate was thin and brittle due to over drilling. My nails felt a burning sensation while she was drilling. Also, while they were doing my nails, they were talking to each other about their personal lives such as school. I don't mind the talking, but when a first time customer comes in to relax and get their nails done, all a customer wants is to be provided with excellent customer service. Update: so this actually happened in the summer of 2018 and it took months for my natural long nails to recover. My nails finally recovered in November 2018. I will never go back there again! If you want to get nicked, have a bleeding finger, want thin, fragile nails, then this is the place to go!!! Reply to Oksana H: I agree with professional treatment with the customer in mind. In my case, I was left with fragile nails to the point where every time I took a shower, it felt like my nails were going to come off. This was the result from POOR service from one of your nail technicians - overdrilling was the cause, getting a cut (with visible blood - not gushing though). I have healthy natural nails and take care of them. This has NEVER EVER happened to me, which is why I HAD to share my review. I was holding off my frustration for so long, but I couldn't any more. I'm describing my experience with one of your nail technicians - during my nail service and months afterwards - OVERDRILLING (which caused thin nails for MONTHS), and GETTING CUT (thankfully I didn't get an infection). Chev at Book Beautician is the best nail technician I have ever met - I will never see any other nail technician ever again. I spontaneously moved to Toronto in the spring and wound up here on a whim because (honestly) it was the closest nail salon to where I was staying. It's a cute, white-walled space that's almost always packed with customers. There are two big televisions that stream movies via Netflix. So you can zone out while you're getting pampered and enjoy some cheesy rom-coms. I come here almost weekly to get polish changes, fills and the occasional pedicure. The ladies are (thankfully) really accommodating with last-minute walk ins for when I need a repair or repaint. But appointments are always recommended. When I first came to the salon I wanted a very specific almond-stiletto shape and Chev gave me the most perfect, beautiful nails I could have hoped for. She always goes the extra mile to make sure the nails look perfect and (most importantly) that they will last as long as possible. SHE ALSO CLEANED UP MY GROSS CUTICLES! SHE IS A SAINT! If you're not used to getting your nails done - Shellac costs extra - so don't be surprised by the additional charge. Get the Shellac. It's practically non-destructible so you don't need to worry about chipped or peeling polish. Also - don't come here when you're in a rush. I've come here a few times when I'm in a rush and it's never a good idea. If you're rushed, your technician is rushed. And then you probably won't be happy with the end result. I try to set aside a couple of hours for my time at BB - just to be on the safe side. (Pro tip: If you don't mind paying a bit extra I love getting chrome powder applied on top of my nails! This is my third visit to Book Beautician nails. I really loved the service each time I came. Nice ambiance, friendly staff. I did not book with a specific technician as I always come last minute. It seems though that everyone is just great. So many colours to choose from! All three ladies I had manicure with were super nice and very detailed. I treated myself to a glass of champagne and watched a great movie on Netflix. These guys are always busy so I advise to book in advance if you don't want to wait. I highly recommend this place. I booked in for a gel manicure this past week and was quite disappointed in my experience. I chose to have a chrome manicure, only after double-checking that it would not chip (I have had some experiences with chipping from techs who do not know how to apply it). I was told it would chip after the standard two weeks, so I went ahead with it. The tech who did my manicure seemed fine, and the environment was nice, but when it came to do the chrome, she was trying to take instructions on application until another tech finally took over. I checked again with this technician if the chrome would chip, and she confirmed it should last for two weeks. She began applying it, but it was not the chrome I had picked out, and it was far too late to begin reapplying. She thankfully did not charge me at check out. The next day, the chrome began chipping off of my nail tips, leaving my manicure quite bad-looking on day two. A few days later, the base manicure also began to chip, and I likely now have to go have my manicure redone elsewhere in less than a week. There may be some solid techs at this place, but I unfortunately did not get one. read more

I would definitely go back for special occasions or when I just want regular bio gel. It felt like it was her first time doing pedicure, she was not competent at all and wasn't able to remove cuticles properly. I went here for the first time two weeks ago since the new ownership took over. I'm very disappointed in the quality of the products and the general vibe of the place. It's quite pricey without having any real quality feel. I'm sure there are some business code violations as well. The washroom door doesn't close and there is a massive gap that's wide open without any locks leaving a customer quite literally exposed. The owner is straight up awful to her employees. She's rude, judgmental and dismissive towards them. I paid well over a 100 dollars for my nails and honestly I could've easily gone to one of the Asian salons for much cheaper. The experience would've been no different. Owner is usually working on nails or running around the store on the phone, fixing broken things or being rude to the staff. Shellac manicure with removal is about $60...and it chips in a week. While the gel set that I got today is very beautiful, the service was extremely subpar. The lady who was doing my nails (Sharon, maybe? A Nigerian lady) was incredibly rude at the beginning. Her attitude can only be described as stuck-up and arrogant. When my gel nails were not fully dried after she asked me to take it out of the UV lamp, she practically yelled at me, saying "you need to put it in. You're not putting it in". When I told her I did, she just said "no, you're not", as if scolding a child, or that I'm clearly stupid for not seeing it. Sister, I think I know where my hands are. Maybe it wasn't in deep enough, but there are a thousand ways to be more respectful to your client while asking them to do something. She was also very condescending when it came to me deciding on the shape of my nails. This is my first time getting false nails, so naturally, I was mildly hesitant when addressing its intricacies. I asked her to change up my pinkie a bit to see how it would look, and she seemed very agitated, and straight up scoffed when I was indecisive for 30 seconds. She got slightly better after she had to leave me for about 5 minutes to help with the health inspection, but that doesn't negate any of her behaviour for the first hour or so. Not to mention that she kept saying "it's going to take a long time if...". I'm paying quite a lot for your services- let me take my time and be content with my choices. Can not recommend this place anymore. I will always recommend Chev as a nail tech but the owner is the rudest, cheapest person I have ever met. Manicures were great when she wasn't there - otherwise you could feel the tension. SO RUDE to her staff. She regularly makes fun of clients. Not cool. The last straw for me was when she had people working on removing one of the pedicure chairs. She refused to talk to them about what she wanted done and instead made Chev who was working on my nails talk to them. I won't go into detail about her very vocal reasons as to why she was refusing to speak with them but if you know this establishment then you can probably guess. I sat there for 30 minutes while Oksana made my nail tech talk to the workmen even though she had a client. Sure, my nail tech was apologetic, but the owner of the establishment didn't even offer an apology let alone a discount (which she should have!). This was not the first time I felt like the staff were being bossed around and my time as a client was wasted. This happened back in September and I haven't returned because it was so disgusting and racist to watch. Not a place I care to be affiliated with. My last visit at this place was so bad it ruined the entire place for me. Had some girl I'd never seen before who was incredibly rude- made a fuss about being politely asked to fix a mistake she had made, and was rude enough about it that I was scared to ask her to fix it again when the first time she "fixed" it she made absolutely no difference and tried to convince me nothing was wrong. After I asked her to fix this one thing, aside from being rude about it, she started rushing and sawing at my nails so hard with the file that the sides of them are all cut up and painful. At the end I was left with uneven nails, smudges in the shellac from where she bumped it with her hands and didn't fix it (at this point I was afraid to ask her to fix anything else), she didn't do the colour I asked for, and then ended up charging me more than I had paid for THE EXACT SAME THING at this place a month earlier, and this place is already over priced compared to other places near by.
