I loved the outdoor space, it's perfectly set up for the ultimate outdoor dining experience. We ordered the crab taco not realizing that it was an entire crab fried, we were expecting crabmeat so that was disappointing. The queso was good but certainly not the best. I'd suggest asking more questions about the menu to avoid being disappointed. read more

When we arrived the place was packed and we were told there was a 25 minute wait , so we got a drink at the bar and played some games out back including jenga and connect four. The time went by so fast since we were having so much fun playing games. When they called our name we went in and sat at a super cute table shaped like a surfboard. The waitress was very attentive and sweet. I had the cheeseburger with french fries and my girlfriend ordered the Fish tacos with coleslaw. Overall it was a great experience and somewhere that we will be returning to in the future. read more

I enjoyed the atmosphere. The outdoors folks were drinking, playing corn hole and listening to live music. We arrived around 6pm & were seated right away. The waitress took our drink order and then disappeared. The menu was strange array of bar food. I had the pulled chicken, rice & spicy cucumber. It was so-so. I did however really enjoy the spicy cucumber salad. My boyfriend got the NC BBQ pulled pork sliders & garlic fries (on special). His food was delicious! All and all I'd say it's a good place for lunch or a small bite to eat. The liquor & mixed drink prices were high. So I wouldn't recommend anything, but beer. read more

EveryTime I come to North Carolina I always go to the shack. Even though it's a bar it's set up as being kid friendly. My husband and I always get the chicken tacos and fish tacos and they are amazing. I can't say much about the menus because this is what I've always gotten. My daughter likes the pizza and the chicken strips on the kids menu. The location is great and they have always been open in the fall and winter when I've been down to the OBX. read more

A real disappointment! Been vacationing in OBX for 20 years and have always heard about Bonzer. So this year we decided to try it for take out. Their menu that we picked up at visitors center and website both say take out. We called with our order, person that answered the phone was rude and said no take out too busy and hung up. We called back and asked how long a wait for table was if we came in, again too busy didn't know and hung up. I guess this business is comfortable treating potential paying customers like crap. From other reviews I read it sounds like they treat the paying customers like crap, so at least we didn't give them out money! Needless to say we will never consider again giving this business our money! read more

Great experience! Went Saturday night for my step-dads bday celebration around 630. Was told there would be a 20-30 minute wait but we were surprisingly seated within 10 minutes of grabbing a few skinny margs at the bar (okay my step-dad skipped the skinny marg and opted for a brewski). BTW- these skinnies are bomb. A little light on the tequila but you can always ask for an extra shot. Anyway, our waitress was super sweet and down to earth. She put us in this fitting little 3-seater table that was basically built of surfboards. We started with the fried green tomatoes, which I highly recommend, then moved onto a few entrees consistent of mahi tacos, a fried soft shell sandwich, and a burger. All were delicious! We made the comment their kitchen's fryer must be awesome because everything fried was super hot and super crispy with just that thin layer of breading. Overall great beachy dinner spot. Never made it outside to their patio, but this is one you should definitely try if you frequent OBX. read more

Came here for a quick meal. I would say the food was expected. Had a great beer selection, very kid friendly and a wonderful staff.

The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly, there's a cool outdoor rec patio, and the food is bomb. I got the "crabby pattie" and it was 100% crab, the remoulade was amazing. Also the fries were awesome. Next time you are in OBX, definitely don't miss Bonzer Shack!! read more

It was OK for what we were looking for. The place seems like it could be cool, but the waitresses were just too , what's the word I'm looking for? Bland! Yeah that's it! They had no personality at all. They were just fake! Sorry, I had to let that be known. The Jalapeño appetizer was Caliente. I loved it! But the beer menu needs to be more clear as to what Is a Draft Beer or not. The patio was closed due to rain but it's cool. Maybe come back, if they get better service. read more

What a find! We were looking for a place to grab dinner with two of my three kids and didn't want to wait for Red Drum down the road -so glad we did! We came through the parking lot into the restaurant and decided to sit outside - little did we know that the outside has this great layout, including multiple cornhole sets, outdoor ping pong, hula hooping and a band. It's the perfect place to end the day after going to the beach. The service is warm and engaging - my daughter loved our server and she was very accommodating. We ordered the fish taco's, the shrimp and the crab cakes - all were full of flavor, generous in size and very fresh! Make sure you order the Bushwacker - basically an adult milkshake that goes down far too easily! I am a big fan of Bonzer's and recommend it over similar places like Tortuga's Lie, which is overrated and overpriced. read more

Great dive bar in the outer banks. Total locals spot with a great beer and drink selection, and excellent specials. Their rockfish sliders were super fresh, well balanced with flavors, and very memorable. We went in the dead of winter but there were still a few tables filled. First off, disgusting food. Second of all, disgusting staff. They were rude and insulted our names. Then proceeded to kick us out the second it hit 9pm because we had underage members of our party with us. We hadn't even finished eating yet. And the waitress was very nasty about it without even a warning. We did leave, and proceeded to wait outside for our ride. She then came out again, throwing her arms up, again saying we could not be here when we were clearly just waiting. We will never come back here again. Get some people skills. read more

Used to love this place. We would make a point of stopping for dinner every year. No more! It is no longer the fun place it used to be. The kitchen is a disorganized mess. My beloved grits cake came out ice cold. Sent it back. The next one came out cold. Sent it back and told them to take it off the check. They should have comped the whole meal. Food took forever. Cool space, especially the inside. The surf board theme is appropriate and they have a patio. Decent drink menu but the food was really excellent. The cheese grits cake was just amazing. It's soft, pillowy, and cakey...grits should only be served this form from now on. Stuff jalapeno was tasty and the crab Mac and cheese was really good. Everything was cooked nicely, and seasoned well. This place doesn't just serve typical Beach town bar/grill/beach food; the food has unique characters and definitely will get conversations started when the food hits the table. I want to love this place so much, but I just can't. We called ahead and was told they were really busy. Showed up 30 minutes later with 7 kids, 6 adults and their dining room was almost empty. We went outside and ordered from the bar, kinda like a Dairy Queen. We ordered their specialty drinks which I'm pretty sure had no liquor in them. I ordered the fried shrimp dinner and was served a kids popcorn shrimp, but was still charged for the adult dinner. Expected more for the money. Disappointed. read more

Wow! What a great experience my niece and I had at Bonzer's last week. The atmosphere is killer, the food was fantastic (the special of pulled pork sliders recommended by our waitress was so good!)
