Very dry brisket

Ordered two meat plate with brisket and ribs. The side were potato salad and Mac&Cheese for 25CAD. They do not have beer on tab. The ribs is dry and brisket is insanely dry, just look at the picture, the brisket is in grains when touch, and the moment you chew it would stuck to your tooth. At least they are self aware enough to provide toothpicks on the table. I'm just speechless with the quality of the food, I smoke brisket myself and brisket is somewhat forgiving to cook, you can mess up pretty hard and the meat will still somewhat be juicy, I just curious who's behind that kitchen and how can you smoke your brisket and make it the moment you touch it turn to grains. They are on another level of bad, I would not serve this brisket to my worst enemy if I'm the chief.

Average bbq. The ribs were good. The smoked sausage had very little flavor. The potato salad was great!

I really wanted to like this place. It's not my kind of BBQ, I'm use to Southern US BBQ. #1 I noticed the lack of a smokey smell when I walked in the door. The meat lacked a smokey taste as well. The mac n cheese had a box mac n cheese taste. Not a fan of vinegar based coleslaw, if you are their's is perfect for you. Cornbread was soooo good! Yummy sauces. I like the variety of meats and the price was fair. Customer service was superb. The decor was really cool! It just wasn't for my palette.

I had a Pulled pork Sandwich & cornbread from Boneheads last night that were both fantastic! Delivery was super fast and it was definitely some of the best pulled pork i've ever had.

I wasn't sure what to have to took the recommendation of "the best ribs in town". They were good but I didn't find them 5 star pedestal worthy. I'll skip a comment on the corn bread, l can't get into the stuff. My two sides were beans and potato salad. I'll give the potato salad a thumbs down, I couldn't find much there too love. The beans were very good but were smooshed to point that they could be a dip instead of a side, I'd prefer that they were still recognizable as being beans. I would definitely go again and try some other wares and give them another shot for some more wow factor.

Southern style? Got me. Reeled me in in fact. Anything smoked and ribbed perks my belly right up. I totally love this place. From the joint itself to their advertising to their social media. Character, quirkiness and meat. Pretty sexy combo. Located at the end of barrington st, it's nuzzled deep in the south end. A rather small venue but certainly not small on character or portion size. With little piggies everywhere, to a chalk board wall in the washrooms, to rolls of paper towel sitting on the table, it rocks. Their meat, speaks for itself. It's phenom. Juicy, tender, and tons of flavor. My favorite? The brisket. Hold up though, their sides pack a pretty good punch and hold their own against the meat. My favorite? The mac n cheese. We ended up splitting a pulled pork BBQ plate. Pulled pork, brisket, and ribs with sides of fries, mac n cheese and coleslaw. All were da bomb. I kind of thought the fries were next to the best in the city. Handcut and uber crispy. These guys should no doubt have a BSc in Barbecue. I'm not sure if that exists but it should. When were talking about BBQ, Boneheads gets the gold star.

Two meat platter with pulled Pork & Beef Brisket, plenty of eating for two people.

We tried to eat here back on a busy Saturday evening in the summer, by the time it was our turn to order they were out of brisket and the pulled pork was going to take awhile so we left disappointed. This time we arrived at 11:30 on a cold, drizzly Saturday morning and had the place to ourselves. With the attention of all the friendly staff, we had our food very quickly. The two of us shared a Two Meat platter. We got the beef brisket and the pulled pork for meat selections, mac & cheese and fries for sides and it came with a small serving each of coleslaw and cornbread, we added a second cornbread so we'd each have a piece. Wow, I am so glad we didn't write this place off. The meat was tasty, tender and moist (something so sensual about that word fits the food here). We didn't bother adding any of the sauces provided at the table, it was perfect naked. The fries were done to a crispy outside, hot and soft inside, just the way we like 'em. The mac & cheese was hot and creamy and while not as good as my home made of course, was still a delicious, hearty portion. I didn't try the coleslaw but B said he wasn't a big fan. The cornbread was perfect. I can't imagine how hungry I would have to be to finish off this platter on my own, even the two of us couldn't finish it off completely. I had tweeted about it being the perfect birthday meal and as we were finishing up our meal, one of the staff arrived with a perfect piece of chocolate peanut butter birthday pie with a candle! I don't know if they make this pie in house but regardless, you have to leave room for this at least once in your life. I'm not up on real Southern BBQ but I know what I like and I like Boneheads BBQ. For the sake of my health, I couldn't come here as often as I would like but I can't wait to get back and get me some more smokey, meaty goodness. Mmmm mmmm

People have been recommending this place to me for a while so when my co-worker suggested we go there for lunch I was all for it! I checked out their menu online, to prepare myself; the menu is fairly small, but good nevertheless. We didn't eat in, we ordered our food to go instead; but, the restaurant itself is pretty nice, small but comfortable. The service was very fast! I ordered the shredded BBQ chicken sandwich with a side of sweet potato chips! They put BBQ sauce on the side for your sandwich and some sort of creamy sauce on the side for the chips; I'm not exactly sure what it was, but it was delicious! My sandwich was so, so, so good! And not overly messy, which I was worried about, because I eat like a lady - I didn't end up getting any sauce on my chin :) The sweet potato chips were cooked to perfection! I think this is my new favorite place and I can't wait to try the rest of their menu!!

Two meat BBQ plate with brisket and a southside link, mac and cheese, sweet potato chips and cornbread.

Being a long time resident of the south end, my review of Boneheads has been a long in coming. Well, if the couple years that Boneheads has been open counts as a long time, which for the purposes of my review, it does. I've come here several times over the years, often for lunch with my dad while he's in town, and after sampling many dishes here and at their main competitor in the city, I feel like I've got a pretty good feel for Halifax BBQ. On this particular visit I was introducing my girlfriend to Boneheads as she is a big fan of pulled pork sammies and I had to have her try out Boneheads' delicious one. I went for the Two Meat BBQ Plate so that I could sample a good chunk of the menu in the most economical manner. And I was hungry as %$&!. I chose the southside links and brisket as my meats, with the sweet potato chips, and mac and cheese as my sides, as well as a wee little loaf of cornbread. Out of the proteins, the sausage was by far the better. With a nice pork flavour, hint of smoke from the noticeable pink smoke ring and a bit of sweet and tangy sauce on the outside, it was a tube steak of win. The brisket unfortunately fell a little flat in its execution. While it had a nice flavour and smoke ring, it was sliced too thinly and mostly fell apart into tiny little meat granules, which was a little awkward to eat, and I'm not sure if it was the slicing or overcooking, but it was a little drier than how I like my brisket. The sweet potato chips were a side I hadn't yet tried at Boneheads and am I ever glad I did, as they are probably the best option out of all the choices - crispy yet retaining that great sweet potato flavour, along with a dip that tasted like a homemade French onion dip, these chips are something you have to try. And since they're made from sweet potatoes they're better for you or something, right? The mac and cheese didn't seem to be having a good day, and I've found that it can be pretty inconsistent at any of the BBQ places in the city. While very cheesy and creamier than their downtown rivals', the sauce had a grainy mouthfeel that was somewhat off-putting. And lastly for my plate, the cornbread; this seems to be Boneheads' yellow downfall. With individual mini loaves, you get a good amount of it, but as it has more surface area exposed to the pan than a slice off a larger loaf, I always find that the cornbread here is a bit dry and the crust of the bread being almost tough. My lovely companion was a big fan of her large pulled pork sandwich, which had an appropriately more smoky flavour than other versions that she's had elsewhere. With a big pile of crispy fries, it was a delicious, albeit heavy, supper. This all being said, I do thoroughly enjoy Boneheads. It's a cozy place, on a corner with some other great restos (Vinnie's, Laura's). Like many a restaurant it has its strong points and its weaker ones, you just have to know what to get so that you can maximize the pleasure for your taste buds.

Divine Doinkball sliders. Crazy delicious!!

Since Boneheads first appeared on the BBQ scene, I've heard nothing but good things about this little BBQ joint in the South End. Since I'm normally in Clayton Park, I had never made the opportunity to dine there. That is until I heard the word "Doinkball." What is a Doinkball you ask? It's the combination of two of my all time guilty pleasures. It's a Donair meatball wrapped in bacon and smoked. I didn't know what to expect but now I want them everyday. I first heard of these babies in the Fall when one of my twitter friends kept begging Boneheads to fire them up and they finally relented. He had them earlier this week and since then I literally counted down the minutes until I could get a taste of this Haliwood delicacy. I'm not joking, I tweeted an exact time and when I walked in and asked for them one of the staff members said "Well, it is just after 2:30. I was told not to sell the last batch because someone was coming in...oh wait, they're yours." Impressive, as it was my first time there. I ordered my Doinkballs with a side of Mac and Cheese and a Dr. Pepper. While I was waiting, the couple across from me must have noticed I was staring in awe at their Mac and Cheese. It looked so creamy, like it was made in a southern Grandma's kitchen. They said they go to Boneheads for the Mac and Cheese and it's the best in the city. They were right, it is hands down the best Mac and Cheese I've ever had in a restaurant. The pasta was cooked to perfection, its obvious there were many different types of cheese and it was soul food at its best. The Doinkballs were served up on slider sized pitas with pickled red onion and tomato. You get three for about $7 bones and there's a delicious donair-esque sauce on the side. It was a sweet sauce that was a bit thinner than your traditional Donair Sauce and a touch more savoury with less garlic. The sauce enhanced and melded with the doinkball itself without overpowering the individual elements. The smokiness of the bacon, the tender meat had just the right amount of spice that lingered at the end and was speckled with bits of onion throughout. I was blown away and the presentation was classy enough to serve these at girls night with fruity drinks or at a poker night with a side of Schooner. It was my afternoon delight that's for sure. I'll be back soon, that's for sure. I sampled the BBQ sauce when I finished my meal and I can't wait to try it on a half rack of ribs with some cornbread, dirty rice and some coleslaw. Mmm Mmm Mmm!!

Pulled pork, fries, mac & cheese, coleslaw and cornbread.

This was SO good. I ordered the pulled pork plate and it was a cafeteria-size tray with a huge helping of the pork, two large sides (I chose mac n cheese and fries), a small cup of coleslaw and a small cornbread. The pork was moist and delicious. The fries and mac and cheese were also both yummy and seemed homemade. The coleslaw was a little more sweet and vinegary (yes, at the same time) than I like so I didn't eat all of it but that was fine with me. The portions were HUGE and I could have easily split mine with someone. I ended up bringing half of it home for lunch tomorrow. They have Propeller sodas, Coke products, milk and beer. The place is small and only has about 8 tables. It gets pretty cramped. We got there just after 5:00 on a Saturday and it was busy. By the time we left people were waiting for tables. It was really yummy and I'll definitely be back!

Try the INFAMOUS Dino Rib. You can't go wrong with it ! - @haithamgaafar

Boneheads BBQ: You Cannot go Wrong with the HUGE Slabs of Meat. And i stress on HUGE!. If the saying is " Its all about Quality not Quantity" then Boneheads changed it to " ITs all about BOTH Quality and Quantity!" People might argue about the price of the meal . But for real . check my picture and for $20 Dollars , this is too Much !. For a DINO rib plate, my fav, you get a Whole plate of hand cut fries that could be a meal by itself ( and trust me its nothing like the junk food fries, this is quality!) , a HUGE Beef rib dipped, marinated and cooked with BBQ sauce, and side of mac&cheese, potato salad. I recommend the potato salad its just too good ! Another good thing about the restaurant is the experience. Makes you feel like that you're not in Halifax. With a Southern look to it, the smell, the atmosphere, the music, they send you back to the southern Cow boy times !. An experience you have to "Devour" ! Not to forget, their customer service is by far the best and most interactive. WIth Full utilization of the Social Media, Boneheads answer back to your comments on Facebook and Twitter pretty fast. If they are slow, its probably because there too Much meat in HAND :)! but they always answer back ! Hands Down for another 5 Star Restaurant. I have been wanting to try Boneheads bbq for months, especially after being lucky enough to attend a breakfast Yelp event at Boneheads a few months ago that was fabulous. My experience surpassed my expectations and the pork bbq sandwich had a huge amount of tender pork, just the right amount of sauce, and a quality bun. If you are a sauce addict like myself, there are 3 different sauces you can choose from to add to your sandwich. The Smokehouse Sweet sauce was so good that I wanted to take it home. I am saving the best for last....the big sign near the counter was advertising burnt end poutine which sounded a little strange but I couldn't pass up trying it. DO IT. It was the first poutine I have had in Halifax and it was dreamy - the gravy, meat bits, tomatoes, and green onions were a delicious mixture. You can enjoy all this great food listening to southern music that makes me feel like I am back home in Virginia. I would have to say that their pork bbq sandwich beats some I have tried in Tennessee and it's a steal at $4.99. Now I just need to try their sweet potato chips.

R&B Kitchen - Chicken and waffles

R&B Kitchen

When Halloween came around and my wife and I were looking for some easy eats before the onslaught…read moreof trick-or-treaters, admittedly, R&B Kitchen was not our first choice. Unfortunately, many other people had a similar first choice as us - pizza - and 40 demoralizing, failed calls to Yeah Yeahs nudged us toward our backup plan. Ordering was easy on Skip, with about ten options to choose from. The offerings are mainly Caribbean - oxtail and jerk chicken-based dishes figure prominently - as well as some Southern influences. We ordered a mix of things to try as much as possible, going for the jerk chicken, ox tail, and Canadian loaded mac and cheese. Our order was ready very quickly, barely longer than the drive to get it. Even with said drive, we probably got our food an hour quicker than a slammed pizza place would have been. It's hard to say which dish was the clear winner, as as all were well executed, but the loaded mac and cheese got the most oohs and ahhs. Topped with a hefty dose of Brothers pepperoni, bacon, ground beef, mushrooms and green pepper, it was like a works pizza on mac and cheese, and it definitely worked! The jerk chicken had a really good pop of flavour from its complex mix of savoury seasonings, including a zesty heat that definitely made itself known, but didn't set off any smoke detectors. The meat was deftly cooked as well, with the thigh and two drums tender but not dry and overcooked. A generous serving of rice and peas, coleslaw and cornbread rounded out a container that was on the edge of needing further structural support! My choice was the ox tail - I love the fatty, beefy mix of meat and sauce, and the pinwheel-like tail bones are weird and fun to me. R&B's ox tail was a very good rendition, checking every box. Some very large beans showed up to bulk up the dish even more, and rice and peas soaked up all the saucy goodness. R&B likely cheats a bit with their cornbread and adds flour, but it was light, fluffy and delicious, so hard to complain about. On my next time darkening their doorway, I was dining solo and opted for the BBQ ribs. When you pick up a takeout container and it's got some heft to it, you know you're in for a hearty meal, and while this dish might not check a lot of boxes on Canada's Food Guide, you're not going to be hungry afterward! Three large ribs were nestled on top of a heap of mac and cheese, with a dark glaze that was savoury and sweet - but not too sweet. The ribs were meaty, and bites came away in easy chunks, signaling a spot on cook. Not to be outdone, the baked mac and cheese was well-executed and while not as over-the-top as the loaded version, it was still a great example of this comfort food classic. The green beans were a tasty surprise because I didn't know that they not only had garlic in them, but they had a *lot* of garlic in them. Vampires take heed! A large chunk of cornbread completed the meal with a golden brown crust on top, and pleasant crumb. It wasn't quite as fluffy as a cornmeal-only cornbread, but I can't begrudge them some wheat flour to help hold things together. Consider this review a song of praise, because R&B Kitchen is hitting all the right notes, and next time we order, they'll be second fiddle to no one.

First off, the atmosphere is lovely--refined but not stuffy--and the service was wonderful throughout. Our server was friendly and attentive, which really helped set the tone for the night. We originally wanted to try a couple of cocktails, but the prices were sky-high, so we stuck with beer instead. Thankfully, the beer selection was solid and went well with our meals. I ended up ordering the burger, mostly because the steaks were way out of our price range. That said, I was pleasantly surprised--the burger was excellent. Super juicy, with a delicious aioli and tomato jam that really elevated it. My wife had the vegetarian risotto, and while she enjoyed it once everything was mixed together, the base risotto itself was pretty bland. Not a bad dish, but definitely not worth what we paid for it. If we weren't on a budget, we might have been able to explore more of the menu--and maybe that would have changed our impression. But as it stands, this one's a 3 out of 5 for us. Nice place, but just too expensive for what we got.
