This Bonefish Grill since its opening remains our "go to" place for special occasions, and we have never been disappointed. It serves as a benchmark for other places where we go to dine out. The service is personalized; the waitstaff professional, attentive and knowledgeable; the food excellent; and the atmosphere welcoming. We recently had our 39th wedding anniversary dinner, there. They went out of their way to make the occasion memorable, above and beyond what one would normally expect. They served us a small flute of champagne with frozen raspberry (compliments of the manager), tailoring our order for what we wanted, and served a decadent flourless brownie with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream and a mixed berry sauce, and number "39" candles. This is one of our favorite desserts there, and they remembered without asking us what we wanted. The staff presented us with a signed anniversary card to cap off the evening, which we have never had happen before nor expected. Taylor, our waitstaff that evening, ensured that everything exceeded our expectations to make the evening memorable. What makes this place special for us starts with the people that work there. The manager, Mr. Jason Payne, is very personable, knowledgeable, and pleasant. He personally attends to customers to ensure that their needs are being met. Mr. Brad "BA" Anderson oversees the operation in the kitchen and his attention to detail helps to ensure that meals are prepared to delight the customer. read more

These shrimp have just the right amount of kick, while being cooked to perfection. I highly recommend getting TWO servings for your table. I personally had the Sea Bass, and oh my, was it ever fantastic. Nobody likes fishy fish, and this was was far from being fishy - only delicious! I had heard a lot of great things about the Bonefish Grill. I have no idea why. I had the rainbow trout, Au Gratin potatoes, and french green beans. The trout was flavorless and the potatoes were extremely salty. The best part of my meal were the beans. My wife had the sirloin steak and the broccoli. The steak was salty and tough, the broccoli was ok, but not great. The bread was good, it was warm with a crispy crust. I would give this review one star, but the server, Britt Taylor, was a ray of light in an otherwise dismal outing. If I rated her, it would be 5 stars. She was incredible, with a warm smile and sparkling personality, that in spite of the food, made us want to come back to see her again. Maybe next time we'll just come in for a drink and see her, or maybe the cook was having an off day, who knows. read more

I love Bonefish and the Charlottesville staff is about the nicest and most helpful around. Highly recommend the new bang bang shrimp format and the shrimp cocktail in a glass made of ice is amazing. Also, the Ani Tuna is scrumptions but there are too many sauces between the sriracha, wasabi, soy and the dressing on top so I usually ask them to skip the top one and put it on the side. I don't know when they shifted their recipe but I've had the mussels three times and this last time the sauce was so cloyingly sweet even the second order was inedible. Maybe a splash of anisette, like less than a 1/2 teaspoon would work but I find anything other than good old garlic/butter/lemon juice sauce an overkill. I've NEVER sentdback food, usually I can work around what I don't like but I just couldn't stand the taste of the sweet mussles. Everything else was good! read more

What a joke. First off the bartender is also the server for the bar area, so when we Sat down at the bar, no one was there for a good 10 minutes. Ordered a Mojito and it was nasty. The club soda was flat and way too much rum and hardly any mint. I mentioned all this to the bartender and he didn't ask if i would like a new drink, I told him I would like a new drink. The food was gross. The bang bang shrimp was soggy by the time we got it. Ordered fish and chips for 15 dollars and we got 2 tiny pieces of overly battered fish and they threw in a big piece of just batter, thinking we wouldn't notice we just got 2 gross, tiny pieces of frozen fish for 15 bucks. This is an excellent place to eat. It's pricy for us, so we'll save it for special occasions, but we will definitely be return customers. The food is excellent!! I particularly remember the fried calamari appetizer. The calamari was breaded and prepared to perfection. And the sauce provided was the best I've ever eaten. The server said it was an Asian sauce, and based on that description, I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass (highly recommended to us by friends) with the Asian sauce. Please note that the two sauces are not the same!! The calamari sauce is head and shoulders above the sauce that came with the sea bass. Next time I go to Bonefish, I will order the calamari appetizer as my entree--it's that good. The Chilean Sea Bass was a disappointment. Although the comments from friends were exceptional, the fish was not exceptional, only very expensive. There were two sizes. The large size was not significantly larger than the smaller, and neither were adequate. I will not order that again. Our server was the best--so friendly--so enthusiastic about and proud of the restaurant's food! She was particularly enthusiastic about the variety of their sauces and brought us a small sample of all sauces to try. The one I liked the best (after the incomparable calamari Asian sauce) was the simple butter sauce, though the one with cilantro was good. Two of our party ordered a side of spinach with garlic. They moaned over it. I tasted it--I moaned over it. It was perfectly seasoned and tender. I've never had (or, sadly, made) such incredible spinach before. My next visit, I'll be ordering the calamari appetizer with the Asian dipping sauce and s spinach side. I'll be able to afford that and can die happy after I eat it!! We both had eggs benedict and it was very good. The problem came when we wanted to use our gift cards and were only able to use one per visit????? My husband and I really like Bonefish Grill in Charlottesville. I usually get the lobster tails and my husband will usually get one of their specials. We'll also have drinks, an appetizer and dessert. The food is tasty, arrives in a timely manner and is still hot when we get it. The staff is courteous and attentive. My husband's gripe is that he feels the portions could be larger. And we both get a little irritated that we always have to wait despite making a reservation. If you happen to go there, have the coconut cream pie for dessert. It's delish! Overall, I'd have to say it's pretty good for being a chain restaurant. read more

Server was very nice, professional and accommodating. Love the local beer they have on tap. First off, if you are trying to be a respectable establishment, please remove the plates from the table when your customers are finished eating. I recently received a gift card with enough credit on it for two visits. Haven't been here for a while but since I was given the gift card I figured I would give it another chance or two. On both of my recent visits, the food was bland and lacking any real flavor even though one of the specials I tried included the word "dynamite" in the name. Service has also gone way downhill. My wife and I used to frequent this place once a week. We loved it and still want to. Now we stop in once or twice a year and the food is very inconsistent. Always great waitstaff, great ambiance... but the food. We stopped in a few weeks back and ordered, as we usually do, a couple of appetizers. The Sashimi was warm as if it had been out of the refrigerator too long or maybe not served immediately. Also an odd plating - Sashimi was cut in slices ranging from an 1/8' to a 1/2"... not the worst thing in the world, just odd. The mussels we were served had what appeared to be some kind of cheese topping. When we asked, the waiter's guess was that it had been a sauce but it separated. They took it off the bill of course, but the bill isn't the problem. In the several years that we were regulars we never, ever, had a bad meal. Please bring my old Bonefish back. read more

Took my wife there for our anniversary, a Wednesday in between Christmas and New Year's. Hostess told us it would be a 25-minute wait, and it wasn't very crowded in the lobby so we decided to wait. 45 minutes later...hostess informed us there were 5 tables with checks down that "should be ready soon." After an hour, my wife checked with the hostess who said the same thing. We left, very mad, and went next door to Sakura who sat us immediately. If they had just given us a realistic estimate of the wait, we would not have waited an hour. We paid a babysitter to sit around the waiting area and had nothing to show for it. Never going back. If they're not going to take reservations (and they don't, like Outback) they should at least be able to somewhat accurately forecast your wait. This Bonefish didn't. read more

My family and I have eaten at Bonefish for years and while we have had a few experiences that have left us scratching our heads we would always return, While visiting my son we took the 45 minute drive to this Bonefish as we thought it was a safe choice...NOT!! We all (5) ended up sick after eating in this establishment. Not bad. Not good. We ordered 3 things, the fish tacos, the monkfish special, and the ceviche. From best to worst, the bread that came with the meal was yummy. The fish taco had tilapia (decent fish, grilled) and some sour cream and spices. Tasty, not bad. The monkfish was lightly breaded or fried. It was cooked fairly well, maybe a little overdone. But the veggie sides were salty and "panda express"-tasty. The ceviche was tasteless protein--sour was okay but don't expect great seafood taste. Large so so key lime pie. read more

I would give this place 3.5 stars. The complimentary bread and oil was nice, the bang bang shrimp appetizer was very tasty. The corn chowder was good, but just too heavy/rich. I also got one of their signature salads, but it was very mediocre-nothing special. If we go back, I will definitely not get a salad. My husband got the tuna steak, and it was good, but very small. Don't waste your time with this chain restaurant. My husband and I were treating ourselves to an early dinner and had one of our worst dining experiences ever! Let me tell you why.... The waiter was rude and pretentious! He knew that this was our first time at Bonefish and preceded to tell us more about the drink menu than the food. He actually flipped the menu over while I was clearly reading it to show me where I "needed to start." When I asked for food recommendations he mentioned a salad that had goat cheese on it. He said, "I don't like goat cheese, but a lot of women do." We ordered the bang bang shrimp (based on recommendations of friends), ahi tuna, and swordfish. The shrimp was ok, but was tossed in the most unimaginative mayonnaise based sauce. The ahi tuna was borderline frozen and the swordfish was so dry and rubbery I think I could have bounced it off the floor. That's why I pick out Bonefish restaurants while traveling. The wait staff at the Charlottesville Bonefish, however, did not meet that standard. We felt rushed; that their only objective was to get our order and turn the table as quickly as possible even though the restaurant was not crowded. No personal interaction at all. This experience was not what we usually expect at a Bonefish. Two stars is a bit low and I would have chosen 3 stars but the description of 3 stars is "A-OK" and I did not feel the service was "A-OK". read more
