Well, this is was unexpected. I went into this experience tired and starving but expecting a Golden Corral meal level that did the job as this was located across the street from my hotel. At first glance was a bit surprised at the size thinking the options were more than I expected but, again, this isn't my first buffet so I knew it would be edible but nothing great. Well color me shooketh. This buffet was buffets like Golden Corral promise but don't deliver. The food was delicious and the variety was incredible: soul food, Mexican, Italian, grilled meats, fish, seafood, burgers, pizza, side dishes of roasted garlic balsamic Brussels sprouts to Onion rings and fries. Let me give you an example, I passed on the steak because I KNEW buffet steak: tough, overcooked and dry. My son got it was like "mom this is very good" so he gave me bite. Wood grilled, tender and juicy and not overcooked. Now, it was on par with Outback or Texas Roadhouse so don't expect Capital Grill but for 16.99 a person and all you can eat? 10/10. This is the first we dined at this buffet. There are so many items serving for the dinner buffet. They offer senior discount and as long as you arrive before 4 pm, you still pay lunch price. Drinks are not included in the buffet. I believe it is $2.49 for soda. I was pleasantly surprised with the selections. Was in the area and looking for a place to eat that I had never been to before. Looked up buffets (a guilty pleasure of mine), and found this place. I expected a Golden Corral knock-off, but what I got was even better! LOTS of variety, and so many good things to choose from. Some items I had never had before, others were lightyears beyond any other place I had tried in the past in terms of taste and quality. I was seated in a room separate from the main dining area. It was a busy Friday evening, and I was expecting scraps on the line since it was getting later. However, to my surprise: they were still stocking fresh food right up until closing! Service was awesome. My server Keisha was excellent! (Give that girl a raise!) I never once had to ask for refills, and my cup was never empty. Place seemed pretty clean too. My favorites were the cheeseburgers, brussel sprouts, broccoli casserole, barbeque ribs, crab cakes, and the desserts. Plenty of something for everyone at this one. They don't have any of these where I live, and since I was only visiting the city, I was trying to make the most out of my experience. I could've gorged myself even further on more grub, but I resisted. If I ever return to that area, I will certainly be going back! Perhaps one of, if not the best buffet I've ever been to! There were items that did surprise me with how they were. Fried chicken, fried shrimp, green beans, cheddar garlic biscuits; all solid choices. A few items were fine. Mashed potatoes, Swedish meatball, chicken tenders, stuffing/dressing, chicken soup; a little less flavorful than I'd have hoped. Nothing was bad, though there were items I wouldn't get again in favor of ones I preferred. Food was coming out frequently and fresh, so that was nice. Staff was attentive and checked in as we ate. Some of the best buffet food I've had since I was a kid. Reminded me of the older style buffets from the 90s and early 2000s with home-cooked style food. Smell inside was wonderful. This is hands down the best buffet dining I have experienced! I would typically never even eat at a buffet ... but we stopped after a tour of UVA. I was pleasantly surprised to find a very fresh salad bar including tuna salad, crab salad and even fresh peel and eat shrimp, southern fried foods including catfish and fried green tomatoes and a wide selection of meats, sides and kid friendly options! Dessert bar has something for everyone too! Our server, Rob, was so attentive! Our glasses were never empty and he checked on us multiple times throughout our meal. This may have been the happiest out kids were at all our dinner stops on the trip. They loved the Mac n cheese, bread, chicken noodle soup & broccoli. Dessert was a big hit too. I dont recommend the breasts since they can easily be a bit hard and dry, but the chicken drumsticks were great: crispy skin with juicy meat inside. Despite having said all this, the fried shrimp was my favorite. Some might say it's over-fried, but I just really enjoyed it especially topping it off with some cocktail sauce. You see two dishes here, but I got a third dish just for fried shrimp. Stuff yourself when you come here, and it'll definitely be your moneys worth of food. Staff who see customers without masks will remind customers to wear a mask before heading to the food area and to use the disposable gloves. There are gloves and sanitizer stationed near the food area (not in the food area, but around it). Staff is very friendly and attentive. I was a little apprehensive of trying Wood Grill after noticing it was affiliated with Western Sizzlin. The parking lot was packed and there were people waiting for tables when we walked in. It took about 5 mins for us to get a table which we didn't mind. We started at the salad bar which was quite impressive and alone a reason to go back. I got another plate of various items and again was super impressed with both and quality and freshness of the food. The options were diverse and you weren't scrapping the bottom trying to get the last bit of anything. I finished my meal with a mint chocolate Oreo type pie that was really good.
