My husband and I had the best time at Bonefish sitting at the bar and chatting it up with the "regulars." Bartenders were super friendly and on top of everything even with a full bar area. I tried the Bees Knees (huge fan of gin) and the lemon blueberry martini while my husband had the coconut crush and a Pilsner. Drinks were tasty and not too sweet. Pro: clean environment, friendly staff, big parking lot, online reservation. Con: price. This place caught my attention and with an acquaintance coming by to visit we decided to come here for dinner. The parking lot is big and shared with multiple store in the shopping area. Upon entering we were greeted and seated quickly. Our waiter was very nice and check in on us frequently which was nice. The restaurant also has tv around the bar area which help enhance the atmosphere. For the appetizer we had the calamari and the bang bang shrimp. The shrimp was very creamy and tasted pretty good. The calamari was decent but nothing stand out from all the other calamari I had in the C'ville area. For the entree I had the fish and chip. It comes with 3 piece of fish and fries. Never having been to a Bonefish before, I didn't know exactly what to expect. Of course, I know that all things seafood is the name of the game, but considering the pricing I just hoping it wouldn't suck after a looong car ride to the area. The initial set up was very easy. It was an early dinner midweek, and we were seated with menus in hand and drink orders taken within moments of walking through the door. Our server spent some quality time walking us through the menu and highlighted the specials and a few things she said that she liked. Overall, very helpful. Bang Bang Shrimp - Cod Imperial - Shrimp & Scallop Scampi I know that Bang Bang is the signature app, but our version wasn't good. The sauce was applied unevenly. Some of the shrimp were coated while others only had the coating on one side or almost not at all. While the sauce was very good, there just wasn't enough of it. Both the Cod and the Scampi entrees were fantastic. Made as advertised and no issue with any part of those two. Cheese and butter galore! As much I would like to, I can't complain. Door to door in about an hour with two entrees that had no issues and were very satisfying. I mean sure, the shrimp app. could have been much better, but the food was good along with the service. The food was absolutely disgusting. What was on the menu was not what we got the mussels were ok but the sauce was suppose to be in a garlic tomato sauce, it wasn't. A bad sweet sauce. Fish and chips the cocktail sauce was horrible sweet no kick. I had a sirloin steak with shrimp That was the toughest piece of meat I ever had the size of a hockey puck.It was awful. I like this restaurant. Regarding the burgers, however, I suggest that you always toast the buns on your hamburgers without requesting it. The food quality is inconsistent. Service is usually good however during our last visit one entree wasn't delivered until a considerable amount of time after the others. Came in here last min with my family. I haven't been here in years so I was exited to be back. But after today my thoughts have changed. Well food came out quick I will say but... I think our server was overwhelmed. Got one our orders wrong... I was suppose to get this item and needed up being something else (one of my side dishes) but I didn't complain.. don't even get steak here. I got sirloin and asked for medium well.. and well I got over cooked and no seasoning. My fiancé got medium and look medium rare.... Sadly he brought his home so he wouldn't complain. Lastly my niece ordered Mac and cheese and there was no cheese and noodles were so hard. We hate to complain.. but who's in the kitchen? Sadly we won't be back. So, we have been to many Bonefish restaurants across the US. It is a conundrum for us. They look nice from the outside. The inside has perfect lighting for dining, not too bright, not too dim. The décor is very inviting. The wait staff all wear white chef-like jackets with the Bonefish insignia. The tables all have white tablecloths and are setup attractively. Everything is clean. Then the "faults" start creeping in. The service is invariably erratic. On this particular evening in Charlottesville, it was a Monday and not busy. We were seated promptly in the bar area, and the waitress immediately appeared and asked if we were ready to order. Um, no, we haven't even looked at the menu. So, she left ... and we waited and waited. She was struggling to keep up with the few tables she had, and our interactions with her were few and far between. When she finally returned, we asked if we could taste a couple wines before ordering a bottle, and she seemed to have no idea what we were talking about. She managed to get us a couple tastes, and we ordered a bottle of wine which she almost spilled all over the table. (On a side note, there are tons of wineries and breweries here but the menu has very few local options.) We ordered the filet and salmon special. The entrees arrived in a reasonable amount of time. The plating was far from special with no garnishes. The filet was definitely the winner. It had good flavor and was cooked perfectly to medium rare as ordered although there was a bit of gristle in it. The salmon was decent but overcooked for our tastes. The coleslaw was a mystery. Basically, it was grated cabbage and carrots with no discernible dressing. The whipped potatoes were pretty good as far as flavor, but they were gluey and had a light crust on them when they arrived at the table. The Caesar salad was basic but fresh and had very finely grated parmesan. My personal pet peeve - dirty dishes remained on the table far, far too long. So again, the outward appearance is pretty "wow" but the execution is lacking. read more

This is an update. I used to truly love this place. The bar is large, and going in alone is nice to have space and enjoy some quiet time. The bar tenders have always been great. The food is the issue. I went in today, and for the 3rd time, I was served undercooked meat. I mean, the salmon could not flake with a fork. If I wanted sushi, I would have gone somewhere else. It was raw and tasted gross. Third times the charm. If i go back, it won't be for a long time. I'm thoroughly grossed out and sad that I wasted money again. read more

I'd love to say this place was doing well, but it has declined from my prior visit every time I'm there. We went in on a Sunday afternoon, prime dinner time, and the place was half full. Even though there were tables open where we wanted to sit, they moved us to another area, good indication that they were understaffed. I'd had a less than satisfactory meal my prior visit a month ago, so I decided to play it safe and get the barrel cut filet that came with garlic mash and brocolli. I asked for medium rare, toward the rare side. I even gave my server a temp, 130, which is on the rarer side of medium rare. So it was served, and it was roughly 3/4 to 1 inch thick. It had the look of something from Sizzler. If you look at any photo of a barrel cut filet, the minimum thickness you'll see is 1.5 inch but most are 2 inch. Anyone who has ever cooked a medium rare steak at home knows that it's nearly impossible to get medium rare on a 1 inch or less steak unless you sous vide, and even then it's tough to do. The potatoes were more on the modeling clay side than the creamy side of mashed, and mostly tasteless. I have to say the brocolli was good. The server offered to get another steak for me after I showed her the medium cook on my steak, but I declined, I wasn't convinced that the next one would be any better. I honestly can't recommend the place for dinner or happy hour any more, and it used to be one of the brighter spots on 29N. If it survives for a year I'll give it another go, but not before reading recent reviews or talking to someone who recently dined there. It's a shame, we used to count on it t least once or twice a month - no more. read more

Our experience was unfortunate to say the least, coming from a restaurant background, I would advise the management to better train their employees. We arrived around 7:45 pm after traveling all day on our way to Sarasota, Fl. Charlottesville was our first stop and we were happy to find a Bonefish Grill as we love their food. Upon our arrival we had to wait a few minutes because the hostess was too busy having a conversation with another staff member. When their conversation was over, she turned to us and we asked if we could have a table...she lost herself briefly, staring at her screen then she said "sorry we are fully booked" when she saw us glancing at the empty dining room, she added "I am waiting for reservations to come in". We said that it was fine and we would sit at the bar. We ordered our drinks, a beer and a glass of wine, and promptly placed our appetizer order with the bartender. Within a minute (and I am not exaggerating), a waiter stood behind us with our appetizer - Flash Fried Calamari - the dish was an unholy mess, the calamari were cold and limp. I am at a loss of words in describing this dish...Bad is putting it mild. We decided not to complain, when the bartender came to us and exclaimed..."They are here already?" Yes, they are. Our Main Courses followed the same pattern...the Filet was actually 2 small pieces of meat tied together, masquerading as one. The Grilled Trout filet and the french fries were good and saved the night. We ate and left. The only bright star during this whole experience was the bartender, Elizabeth S., she wore many hats and was absolutely wonderful, shout out to her...the rest of the Staff, starting with the Hostess need to go back to training school. The ONLY star that night goes to the bartender. PS. We were seated at 7:54 pm and paid our check at 8:47 pm. When we left the dining room had only 2 tables occupied...we peeked in, because I knew I would be writing a review and wanted to be exact. read more

I absolutely love this location! The staff is super friendly and the food is always delicious! My family and i come here quite often and are never disappointed! If ever something is messed up, they've always corrected it immediately! No issue! I don't think you could go wrong with anything on their menu but I definitely recommend trying the bang bang shrimp for starters and one of their cocktails! I've had their lobster tail a few times and it's super good! Especially dipped in some lemon butter! Yum! Thei grilled shrimp is one of my favorites and tonight i tried their mahi mahi and it was so good! My fiancé always get a steak but tonight he tried the thermidor gnocchi. We dined at the Bonefish Grill franchise located at 269 Connor Drive, Charlottesville VA 22911 (at Hollymead Town Center). It's a decent national restaurant (we've eaten at other Bonefish franchise locations), but the situation may be different at a particular franchise location. That was definitely the case here, if our experience dining there recently is any guide. In our case, the meals were lackluster and uninspired. Prices were moderate. One meal selection in particular was absolutely abysmal--and two of us had it. The trout, touted as a special that evening, was absolutely dry and cooked to the point that it could've been mistaken for the flavorless sole of a well-used construction boot. I did mention to the cook that it was extremely overcooked and dry...to no avail. As bad, our server stopped by our table of four so many times we lost count (definitely over 20), repeatedly asking us each time, "Is everything OK?" followed, without a pause, by a thumbs-up. All four felt she had become annoying by her continually interrupting our meal and our dinner conversation. As our server, she clearly did not look at our meals to see if what she was serving us met any kind of reasonable standard. We finally concluded that she could not have received any kind of sufficient training on being a server nor was she being adequately supervised by the front of house manager to help her. We're giving this experience a one-star rating only because there is no lesser rating. read more

First, the hostess and our waiter, Ethan, were cordial and nice (thus 2 stars instead of one). BUT the food was terrible. We went specifically there for fish, and I specifically ordered the daily special thinking it would be the best. The fish was obviously frozen and so was watery. The "crab crumb topping" was totally unseasoned small pieces of (what could have been canned) crab sprinkled on the fish. We were dining early (we are old ;-) ) so I would have expected the vegetable to be still reasonable, but they were steam tabled over cooked and the whipped potatoes were whipped to almost a cream. Incredibly disappointing. We learned our lesson and will stick to the restaurants on the downtown mall that are locally owned, and great, fresh, and well-flavored and cooked food. read more

We came for our anniversary and everything was wonderful! As soon as we walked in the door, we were greeted by a very nice host. My husband had shrimp and sirloin and I had Crabcakes. Everything was very good. The broccoli was freshly steamed and served without butter or sauce just as we like it. Our server Jillian was very pleasant and so attentive. The only "negative" I would have is the small portion of mashed potatoes. We are definitely going to come back soon. We have appreciated that Bonefish Grill has remained open during the pandemic and hard ordered takeout on a few occasions. Our most recent Friday night order included Dynamic Salmon (on the specials menu) and Crab Crusted Cod. I didn't get to try the cod, but highly recommend the Dynamite Salmon. We had whipped potatoes and upgraded a side to a house salad. (You have to call to upgrade sides, don't have the option on the app.). They include bread and the dipping oil if you indicate that you would like it. They are prompt at coming out when someone pulls in a curbside spot. They also still accept coupons (Attractions book), which several places have stopped doing. The only thing that could be better is for them to bring back the au gratin potatoes. read more
