Attempt to have lunch here on a recent trip to Midland on a Tuesday and despite the sign saying they would be open. We were very disappointed to see they were closed. The next day I was willing to give it one more try and was thankfully met by an open door. I think it's weird that they close without any warning the previous day, but no matter. I ordered the sampler platter with chicken and brisket, with a side of potato salad and jalapeño muffin. My expectations were fairly low but on the recommendation of a coworker, I decided to give them a try. None of the food was particularly bad , however, I wasn't the biggest fan of the fact that everything was slathered in a very sweet barbecue sauce, which completely took away from the smokiness and depth of flavor in my opinion. I wasn't a huge fan of the beans (again, too sweet for my preference) or the jalapeño muffin which was reminiscent of cornbread. Maybe that's the way Michigan barbecue is? Our food took a bit of time being a busy lunch time but the wait wasn't outrageous. Overall I'd say the barbecue was not the worst. I wanted to give this place a try because I had heard they were good and I love BBQ. After several attempts of trying to come here and finding them closed I finally caught them open. I was super excited to give them a try. Needless to say I was unimpressed. First this is mainly a take out restaurant with seating. You wait on yourself. Order at the counter and even when you say it's for here they package it as a take out order. I had to ask for plates to eat off from. The pull pork was nasty. Really nasty. It was more like bits of rib meat in a grease. It came out like a soup. We let them know that the pulled pork was super nasty and not edible. The employee responded with. Well I like it!... no offer to take it back, off the bill or to exchange it with something else. The ribs were ok. Not the best I've had or worst but they advertised them as St. Louis style ribs and they did come smothered in sweet sauce. Their side options are limited and their pricing is rather high for a place that is more like a take out joint. You're eating out of a box with plastic forks and pop out of a bottle. We placed on online order for sauces & rubs in Nov.2023, we just finally received the order in Oct 2024. We had to send several emails asking for updates, many of which were ignored. The order was for 6 sauces and 2 rubs, we received 4 sauces and 2 rubs. Of the 4 sauces 2 were broken and drenched the rubs, so we only received 2 bottles of sauce. We had been ordering from them for years and something has changed. They don't seem to care about their customers like they did at one time, which is really sad. We will no longer be ordering anything from them. read more

I'm a fan. The ribs are tender and meaty, perfect amount of char and sauce. They offer a rib basket with their special "fries", which are the bomb! . Their sauces are really good, regular and spicy! Their sausage is good, their brisket is good, and their stuffed baked potato is good. They have specials where they offer things like fried catfish, which I hear was really good also. And, they have a good selection of drinks. Their new location is nice with lots of seating and more centrally located in town. Clean and spacious bathrooms. Appropriate decor. The staff is great and accommodating. They are great at making recommendations based on your specific likes; haven't steered me wrong yet. They have good hours and even when I have gone close to closing they still had the items I wanted. I have no problem recommending them. The BBQ is amazing. Some of the best I have ever had. The smoked wings and ribs are top notch. The beans are super flavorful, The coleslaw is a blue cheese variety that is great and goes well with the pulled pork. Everything has that good, deep smoke flavor. Seriously the best BBQ you can get north of the Mason Dixon. Sometimes they aren't open when they should be but when your BBQ is this good it is worth waiting for. Also, I preferred the old location. I've always heard great things about this place. The problem is that every single time that I've ate here, my food tasted like it was doused with lighter fluid. You don't get nice smokey flavor here, you get the great taste of gasoline on your pulled pork. I have no idea what they're doing here these days but this is far from award winning BBQ, especially for the price they're charging. There are much better BBQ options in town for a much more fair price. Update: Fall 2019 They've moved to a new location that is much larger than the previous. You still order at a counter and they bring the food out to you. Main problem now is that when I went their menu at the counter didn't have any prices....which seems pretty insane. Sometimes it isn't about not making mistakes, but how well you fix them. Saw them at the Annual Rib Cookoff in NV and their sauces were amazing, which probably explained why they were sold out by the time we got there. Found their website and placed an order, and this is where it all went wrong. When I picked up the package, I could smell the sauce, which is not a good sign. One of the sauce bottle was broken and it leaked all over the interior of the box. I reached out via Paypal and I was told I would receive a replacement bottle in the mail. The communication was a bit slow and it took a while, but I did receive a replacement shipment. To my surprise, not only they sent a replacement bottle of their hot sauce, they sent 2! Carefully wrapped this time to so they made it safely. They even included another 2 bottles of sauce and another dry rub! While the communication was a bit rocky at times, the fact they were willing to go above and beyond for a mail-order customer speaks volumes. I would still rate it as an overall positive experience and would encourage others to order from them. read more

Food is by far the best me and my wife ever tasted. The one star is for, you never know when this business is open or closed. Seems like they just wake up and be like, are we going in today? lol! After the third time coming I gave up. I said I'll never be back to this place ever again. I was a regular that drove from Saginaw. Have not been there since last year when I drove up and I knew I wasn't getting any food, because there was a hand written note stating they'll be closed for a month for vacation. For $7.20, it is more than enough food for one person. Beef brisket plate will run you about $11.25 for meat, smokehouse beans, coleslaw, cornbread muffin or dinner rolls. Their cornbread muffin is pretty sweet, but it's definitely a better option than the dinner rolls, which are bland and boring. They had a hiatus for quite some time, but they are back busier than ever, so if you find are in the mood for BBQ and are in the tri-cities area, Bone Daddy's is certainly worth a try. I have to say that I have never been disappointed with the quality of the food and service. My issue is that no one ever knows when they are open! Even them! Posted hours on the door are not right. Same with Facebook and Webpage. Then when I do find them open I have asked the staff what the current hours are. Then I come back when they said they will be open and SURPRISE.... CLOSED!!! They need to make a serious attempt to set hours and stick with them. As a customer, my time is important too. So when I make plans to eat "real good BBQ" and drive a half hour to Midland for it, I would expect them to be open. read more

I got the sampler plate because the first time at a place and a Native Texan that gets his smoke on, I found a MAJOR FLAW! The ribs were the best I've had in Michigan. The beans and the meat were good but tasted like fuel! Major flaw in smoking incorrectly! Noticed the smokers outside with gas lines attached. Sorry Bone Daddy...You're CHEATING!! I give you mad props on the ribs though!! They were ON POINT! But...There's nothing worst than tasting fuel in the smoke. Gotta fix that and don't drown the brisket and pulled pork in sauce. The owner even came out several times during lunch giving big samples of the brisket that he just took out of the pit. It didn't matter that we already had a plate of brisket that we had ordered... he just gave everyone more!!! Highly recommend the ribs and brisket. My pork sandwich had too much sauce for my liking, next time I'll ask for the pork dry and add sauce at the table. Overall, excellent BBQ and sides for this far north of the M/D Line!! The tri-tip, a cut popular in California, is occasionally offered as a special, and it is honestly the best thing Bone Daddy's makes. I wish it would just be added to the menu! And while the food is good, the service is what takes the star rating up to 4 for me. One week when Bone Daddy's had tri-tip on special, I came in twice and missed it. The next night, I came in and found that one of the owners had saved me back a portion before it ran out at lunchtime. I was impressed. That's the kind of service that earns you a customer for life! Between the flavor and bark of the bbq, the quality of the sides, and the friendliness of the staff, it's the best bbq we've had. We had the bbq chicken sandwich and a brisket meal. I had the bleu cheese coleslaw and hubby the standard. I am not a fan of traditional coleslaw so the bleu cheese was a tasty, savory surprise. Hubby likes slaw on the sweet side and he said this slaw was good. The jalapeño corn muffin was an upgrade from the standard muffin. The ordering process was quick and we were served within 10 minutes. The bbq'd meat was so good that we ordered a half slab of ribs to go! Our guests we're so impressed and couldn't stop raving about the 5 star meal we provided thanks to Kim at Bone Daddy's. We had the award winning Ribs, Chicken quarters, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, potato salad, baked beans and Brioche buns. Wow!!!!!!! Just was fabulous! I had heard of Bone Daddy's a couple of times, but it is about 70 miles north of where I live so I didn't think much about. This weekend while visiting my daughter at college we decided to go get something to eat and in doing a search of places near us, Bone Daddy's popped up and we decided to check it out. We arrive at at 2:30pm on a Saturday afternoon and the place was empty. empty to the point that when we pulled in I thought at first that they were not open yet. We walked in and the smell that greeted us was heavenly. We order and sat down and almost before we settles into our seats, out came our food. My wife and daughter split the sampler plate of pulled pork, brisket and ribs. I had the brisket plate and my daughter's boyfriend had the brisket sandwich. My brisket was some of the best I have ever had, moist, smoky and tender. I had the beans and coleslaw as my sides. Both were excellent, however the beans were stand outs, sweet, tangy, and with a good bit of heat. The cornbread followed suit with its own hint of spicy sweetness. My wife and daughter loved their dishes also, which as usual I was given a taste of each item. The pork was wonderful and the ribs cooked and sauced perfectly. I see what they won 1st place in Reno NV this year, and we will be returning to Bone Daddy's BBQ every chance we get. In reading the other reviews I have seen a couple that say their meat it too fatty. Guess these folks do not understand BBQ and what makes for a flavorful cut of meat. No fat = no taste and tough. If your don't like fat, you probably shouldn't be eating BBQ. read more

Yum, yum, yummy! Met family here and the restaurant was empty. It was our first visit so we were told normally you order at the counter and sit down. But she gave us menus so we could peruse it before ordering. Before I get into any detail of my meal let me just say all our meals were very, very tasty! Now, I had the sampler with ribs, pulled pork and chicken. The ribs were a great combination of juicy inside and crispy outside with plenty of bbq sauce. The pulled pork.... deliciously tender. And the chicken too was juicy inside with crispy, yummy skin! I'm not a fan of the beans but talking with others they enjoyed them. They are sweet with onions and normally that would be something I like but for some reason it just wasn't my taste. The cole slaw could have a bit more sauce on it but still good with the BBQ. Service is self serve drinks but our food did come out in a timely manner. The restaurant is smallish but since we were the only group it was fine. Definitely recommend this bbq and I'm sure I'll be back to sample other items on the menu. read more

Out of all the gluttony I indulged during the BBQ Rib Cookoff held in Reno, Bone Daddy's by far took the cake. I had an array of ribs, but theirs stood out the most. The meat was extremely tender. Unlike other ribs I've sampled, this didn't take a tooth out and neither was the meat dry. The meat nearly fell off the bone. Towards the last five minutes of cooking, the ribs are coated with their special sauce that's full of bold flavorings with just the right amount of tang, spice, and smokiness. read more

They are hands down my favorite of the competition for the past 3 years. The Rib and Brisket are amazing. The Owners and staff are absolutely top shelf. Courteous and friendly.
