Not from around here and wanted to try a new place. Sandwiches looked tasty and plenty of awards have been given to this shop. Tried the #3 Goose's Reuben and the #19 Ed's Reuben, both were delicious and a reasonable $11. We were greeted in and told what they like and offered suggestions. Not a big deal but after getting the receipt we were charged .50 for subsisting Swiss cheese for pepper jack. Didn't think that would be an extra charge but doesn't discount the overall quality of the sandwich. Store was clean too, which is always nice to see! read more

We were looking forward to eating at the Amazing Deli today. We stood at the counter, the only customers waiting to order, and patiently waited for someone acknowledge us. It appeared there was only one person working. I understand he was busy, but we waited so long we decided to leave. We told him he lost a customer simply because he didn't say hello. Instead of apologizing and helping us, he proceeded to argued with us and raised his voice and was very sarcastic. It's too bad, because we will never go back. read more

This deli is consistently good. We ride our bikes into Midland often and find the location easily accessible by car or bike. We love that they offer 1/2 sandwiches. I walked over from the H Hotel a block away for a quick non-hotel lunch. Not crowded at all at 1 pm, plenty of free tables. It's a typical neighborhood deli with lots of named sandwiches. Or you can build your own with choices of breads, meats and so on. Sandwiches are a decent size, not overloaded with meat and come with a pickle spear. They have drinks, chips and cookies. Not so amazing. I ordered a breakfast sandwich which came with 2 thin slices of bacon - the kind you buy that's been pre-cooked, thin-sliced ham similar to what you get from a package of Hillshire Farms from the grocery store and an egg. It didn't take them long enough to actually cook a fresh egg, so I assumed these egg patties are pre-made. No seasoning on the egg and it was served with a slice of american cheese on an onion roll. For breakfast? Blech. Seriously. While the egg and cheese were hot, you then bit into the ham which was ice-cold. If you're cooking a fresh egg on a flat-top, why not also warm up the ham, too, so it's all nice a warm rather than 2 disparate temperatures? I was the only person in the shop - why not take care and do it fresh and right? A breakfast sandwich done right is a thing of beauty and can make someone's day. I ate the egg, the 2 measly slices of bacon & left the rest. I tried the pickle which was crisp, but also no flavor. I don't understand: why not try to be more than mediocre? A huge waste of money at $8 and some change just for the sandwich. (Yes, that's correct: 8 dollars). I left hungry and grabbed a bag of Fritos instead from the gas station which is what I should've done in the first place. An expensive and disappointing experience. read more

The sandwich was delicious! Super thin cut meat which I love. I gave 5 stars 100% for the quality of the sandwich. The staff was friendly and the food came out pretty quickly, granted we were the only ones in the store at the time. The prices are little high given that that they don't come with anything. All sides are a la cart. It does appear that they are comparable to the other deli's in town though. The place was pretty clean but not super high end or anything, just comfortable. I got the turkey club, my husband got the Cuban on a brioche bun and my daughter got the NY ham and cheese on brioche. We all liked our chosen sandwiches and look forward to being back in town to try another one. Give the place a try, they have a pretty large selection and will substitute on the specialty sandwiches. If you're visiting Dow Gardens, this makes a great late lunch stop afterward. They also have soup available but were out when we got there around 2:30. read more

I can't really get that excited about sandwiches so sorry that this review is biased. Although the service is efficient and you get a good amount of food, it seems like the price is high for what you get. I had The Smokey ($7.99) and added an egg (I think it was 80 cents). The bread is nice and is toasted well, and the lettuce is fresh and shredded to small pieces. But they put a LOT of meat, too much for me. I would rather they skimp a little on the meat and charge me less. read more

The skinny on this place is that they make standard square sandwiches (unless you want a pretzel bun or something similar that isn't square) that are grilled on a sandwich press. They also serve hot dogs and soup. You can make most any sandwich a small combo which includes chips & a drink for an additional $3. The place is relatively small and kind of hip since it is located downtown in an older building. Our group had 4 different types of sandwiches including one with the pretzel bun and all with different types of meat. The meat is thinly sliced. The flavor was good and we did notice that they make a bid deal about where they source their ingredients. Pop is available either as a fountain or out of a cooler. Overall the place was just OK. I think the biggest complaint was that the toasted sandwich was a nice touch, but the meat and other sandwich toppings come out cold. I'm going to try and ask next time if they would grill the meat BEFORE putting it on the bread and then grill the sandwich - that way it turns out to be a great little melty, gooey, awesome toasted sandwich! Other complaints were that it was a little on the expensive side, and they slightly burned the bread on a couple of the sandwiches. I'm OK with a sandwich combo running over $10 - if I can get something that no one else makes - which makes me think of that "one of a kind" toasted sandwich I mentioned earlier. I first went to Amazing Deli back in 1999. It was my favorite restaurant in Midland while attending Northwood. Now every time we come back (only 3 times in the last 13 years) we go to Amazing Deli. Growing up around Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, I didn't realize deli-sandwich shops were hard to find. When I'm working in Midland, Amazing Deli is like going back home for lunch. Tasty, good quality sandwiches, short waits, immeasurably better than Jimmy John's. I've eaten at the Amazing Deli about five times in the last year or so. The staff is terrific -- cheerful, helpful and generally happy to be of service. Enough so that I'm willing to overlook some shortcomings because I'm interested in supporting a local business. There are a few areas where the deli could improve: First, a deli darn well better have bagels on the menu as a bread choice.I don't care if they are Lender's bagels from Wal-Mart and you pull them from a freezer. Delis need bagels. Second, I will disagree with the reviewers who call the meat portions generous. I'm wondering about their basis for comparison. I'd say they are bordering on skimpy, compared to what I would expect in a larger city. The people are amazing. The food is good. I'll be back. And I'll recommened it to friends.
