This place is a true gem to those that love sustainability. You're able to fill your own reusable containers/jars with any of their bulk spices, rices, grains, etc. I even fill my own lunch containers with delicious stuff from their salad and hot bar. It's a niche store. You pay higher prices for specific types or food (organic, local, etc.) Selection is limited so I rarely go there.

This is the largest place to find organic and bulk foods locally. It's also my favorite hang-out spot when in Mt. Pleasant. Great assortment of fresh and local produce, Michigan made products, health and beauty and groceries. The bulk selections are fantastic. The service, though, is the best!! This store is small but it doesn't feel small when you are there. They have made very good use of their landscape. Pack in all kinds of goodness. I have been very successful in finding everything that I need and discovered some things I hadn't yet realized I needed. They make wonderful specialty foods like vegan mac & cheese, gluten-free cake, brownies, homemade soups, breakfast burritos, pasta. Fresh veggies and fruit. Hard to find items. Vitamins, supplements, cheeses, crackers, cookies meats and tons of frozen items. Essential oils, diffusers, natural hair dye, cosmetics. They have a vast variety of items. Something for all. This is the one store my pescatarian daughter, vegan son, health conscious daughter in law and my should be gluten-free self can all agree on. This co-op is a wonderful addition to the community. Pricey. Not for your average shopping trip. Have a lot of options for specific diets (gluten-free, vegan, etc.) but not necessary for me who doesn't have a special diet nor do I have the cash flow to put into unnecessary expenditure when other grocery stores in the area are much more cost efficient...which is a bummer because I would rather support a smaller local business as opposed to giving more capitalist power to Meijer or Walmart. read more

It's small, but it's full of most things you may need for any desire. They have fresh produce, skin/face care, ground spices, hot soups daily, and so much more. Green Tree is amazing! I just discovered this hidden gem and I only wish I would have sooner! Mt. Pleasant is lucky to have this market in such close proximity to the CMU campus. Even though the square footage isn't huge, it is well-stocked with food and wellness provisions. As a visitor just passing through, I appreciated their small hot bar and prepared foods, which included, on Halloween night, a super tasty pumpkin 4-cheese ravioli. They also had some really good sales on items that are normally quite pricey (Mary's Gone Crackers, Muir Glen canned tomatoes). While there isn't a deli, they do carry pre-packaged meats and poultry, including bison! Street parking is easy, too. read more

I love the Green Tree! I've been coming here 3-4 times a week ever since I have moved. I love the bulk foods section and the variety of frozen items as well. Lactose Free Ice Cream, for the win. I particularly like that you can bring your own containers in for bulk foods, from local honey to coconut oil. The workers are very friendly and it's a very nice atmosphere. The groceries are more expensive than you'd find at a Krogers or Meijer but you're supporting local and sustainable agriculture. As well as supporting a very needed service in Mt. Pleasant. My money is well spent here. read more

Great selection of natural and organic foods. The staff is amazingly helpful and kind. They now feature soups, baked goods and sandwiches in their mini deli area. It is the whole foods of Mt. Pleasant. Imagine whole foods, in a very tiny scale. You can get organic produce, organic grocery. gluten free this and that. I loved that one day they had samosas and indian rice to go in the tiny deli section. I believe this is a co-operative store, and i love that it could impact the local economy more directly and wholesomely than a national chain can. Only drawback i see in their membership scheme is the scarcity of deals for members. They do not have fresh fish or meat which would have gained another star. I expected the high prices, so I am not shocked. read more

I love Green Tree, but I wish it was closer to where I live in Midland lol, but alas anyways. Always has a good selection of organic and vegan foods and items, being so allergic to chemicals that i love all things organic. My absolute favorite grocery shopping experience even though we live 45 minutes away and only get to Greentree maybe once a month. The staff are unfailingly polite and helpful, the shopping space is clean and organized, there's a relaxed and homey vibe about the place, and of course it's great to have access to all sorts of organic, often locally/regionally sourced foods and other goods. Unlike many coop ventures, there's not a work requirement here -- in fact, even if you want to volunteer, any coop volunteer requests are generally very targeted and short-term projects. We're omnivorous, so we especially appreciate being able to find a variety of locally grown meat and poultry and Michigan fish in a one-stop-shopping venue along with the produce and other goods. We also love "real," organic milk in bottles, also sourced from a regional dairy. We find all these things make it well worth the annual membership fee, although you do not have to be a member to shop here; and you can get real bargains for quality foods and green household/personal products during Greentree's monthly sales and in-store specials. Greentree has also expanded its deli section to include more take-home entrees and lunch items, which is nice for us out-of-towners who are usually running multiple errands in Mount Pleasant while we're there and wind up not having a lot of time to cook dinner when we get home. We just wish Greentree were about 30 miles closer to our house.;-) read more
