Had a long day In the Tribeca area and this place caught my eye. The restaurant itself is a sushi bar so it's very small but has a homey feel to it. They take reservations but also accept walk-in's as well. I started off with 2 rounds of lean tuna nigiri. The chef prepares the food right in front of you which was fun. The tuna was perfect and really meshed well with some ponzu sauce. My second round I got medium fatty tuna nigiri which was phenomenal. The tuna was so tender and fatty which really went with the roe they put on top. My meal was pretty light overall but they also serve Maki if you're looking for something heavier. It is bar seating like usual sushi/handroll spots. Salmon Crispy Rice (3.5/5): This wasn't too bad. The salmon was decent but the rice could've been fried more. For handrolls, I ordered the yellowtail scallion, toro scallion, and hot & spicy scallop. I liked the yellowtail and toro the most. They tasted fresh and portion was fine. I've only been here once but I really, really liked their sushi. Firstly, the staff was incredibly kind and helpful, giving recommendations on what to try and to order based on my preferences. I enjoyed the King Salmon Nigiri, Sea Bream Nigiri, Botan Ebi Nigiri, Truffle Avocado roll (not pictured), and my favorite, the Chu Toro Nigiri. This sushi really does melt in your mouth and is one of those meals that leaves you full but you feel GREAT after eating. One of the best parts of Bondi is the fact you can build your own box. I didn't think I'd be full from a couple handrolls, but they were really generous with the fillings. We started out with some appetizers like edamame and some air fried crispy spicy tuna sushi with a lot of guacamole. For the first course, they taught us how to roll a cucumber hand roll. Then, we got to make salmon avocado rolls, crab, and even lobster. I appreciate their 5 handrolls for $40 menu. You can pick 2 of the same handrolls and even the $12 ones. It's a great deal. Unfortunately, uni was not on the menu and it's not part of the offer. Their lobster Handroll also looks nothing like the one they posted on Instagram. The one on Instagram was a whole lobster claw sitting on top of a miso leaf and a bed of rice. That's what brought me here. But the one I got in real life was chopped lobster meat with mayo I guess. I don't like mayo. The wagyu Handroll was alright. The salmon ikura Handroll has very little ikura. The seaweed was very good; crispy and easy to bite off. I used to like Bondi a lot more. The first time I ever went to Bondi was in 2019. It looked like a regular American sushi place but they served real crab meat for the blue crab roll. How I know? Because I found crab shell in my sushi, and I was delighted at the time. I had lunch a Bondi Sushi and I had an above and beyond experience. First of all, their sushi is great. It's fresh, you have sushi counter seating which is fun and so many options to choose from!! They have 3 lunch specials and I chose the 1 appetizers, 3 nigiri pairs (6 individual pieces), and 2 hand rolls. The O Toro and Scallop are two of my favorites. Plus, the spicy crab stands out and is modestly spicy. I love that they offer a free sake shot and warm hand towel. Thank you Joseph my server, the sushi chef, and Pinky the manager for checking in. I came by Bondi for International Sushi Day ($5 hand rolls). This is a great deal for rolls that are normally around $8. I ordered the yellowtail scallion, seared unagi avocado, hot & spicy blue crab, and lobster. They were all good! Some of the fish portions seemed a bit on the small side though, so I'm not sure I would've been as satisfied had I been paying full price. The service was very nice, but it felt rushed. It may have been an abnormal experience, given that they were packed with reservations for International Sushi Day. Even so, each slot was for 45 minutes, and we were finished in just over 30 minutes because our next order of hand roll would come before we were finished the previous one - which isn't ideal for hand rolls since you're meant to eat them as soon as they're made so the seaweed wrap stays crispy. Overall, I felt this was a solid spot. I'm not sure that I'd make a specific trip out here (especially at full price given my rushed experience), but if I was craving hand rolls and was nearby, I'd consider returning. read more

If you know nothing about me, know the following: a) I like sushi though I don't consider myself a true connoisseur b) I like a good deal and c) I like finding new places near where I'm already heading to. With this in mind, I found about the Bondi sushi chain due to their location in Nomad where the sample sales happen. I was looking for a happy hour to do solo and bondi fit the bill. The same applies to this location in Nolita/Soho. I have only dined in at Bondi so I wasn't aware they had cut rolls until Natty (the person who took my order) was telling people that cut rolls were for to go orders only. For the dine-in experience, they focus on nigiri and hand rolls which are pretty fresh in my opinion. It is made to order so you would see the sushi chef make your hand roll or nigiri in front of your face. I also like the combos they do in flavors like seared otoro with truffle salt, or the sea scallop with lime. Other than the general nice people who worked there, there is also the relatively small and quiet environment of the place (most seating surrounds the sushi counter expect the 2-3 tables outside). It is not the bustling restaurant you have on a casual night with a boatload or friends nor it is the $200 omakase you have for a big occasion. It is somewhere in the middle which is okay. For those who look for a good deal, my best advice is to go on a weekday from 4-5:30 pm. That way you can experience the lunch options and happy hour which have the best options. With lunch you choose between 3 different prices to get a combination of appetizer, a selection of nigiri and a handroll. And you can choose whatever they have on the menu! Have I chosen a wagyu or a lobster handroll that would cost $14 or $12 by itself with an otoro nigiri. Multiple times. With the happy hour menu you can buy handrolls for 5 bucks plus cheap drinks. Which is a win win. Plus they have crispy rice on the menu. You might be able to find better fish elsewhere or even cheaper deals but I think of this place as a happy medium and a dependable option if you are in the area. Meh! Went there the other night with a buddy and just felt like fast food sushi. Crispy rice cakes were premade and looked like they came out of a package and not a single roll stood out as being great or even all that good. Ordered at least price wise one of the more expensive rolls which was the wagyu and lobster surf and turf roll and it was underwhelming and used way too much mayo. Initially we had a waiter come to our table, but then he disappeared for rest of the meal. Then a bit weird that the host took over taking additional orders and doing water, and clearing tables. Something a bit off about the waiter as well when he took our order. After asking us what we want for drinks, comes back 2 mins later and asks what we want for drinks and then we had to restate our food order a couple times before he got it right. Then for a sushi bar, I never actually saw any sushi, meaning part of the thrill of a sushi bar is to see nice slabs of tuna and other fish getting carved up and watching sushi masters do their thing. Nothing like that here. In fact, the only thing we saw, which was also a bit weird was one of the chefs spending literally an hour sharpening a knife. Again, just weird. I was also in and out within 10 minutes with my takeout order which was great because I was in a hurry! I opted for the Build Your Own box - it's four rolls for $25 (four pieces in each roll). I tried the spicy salmon, spicy tuna, yellowtail scallion, and salmon avocado. I also added on a side of spicy mayo. Overall I think for the sushi quality and portion size it's a good deal! I'm glad I ordered a side sauce because they barely gave me any wasabi. I don't think I've ever seen such a small portion. That was my only notable complaint. The $30 lunch special includes edamame, 1 appetizer, 8 pieces of nigiri, and 2 handrolls. You can choose from Chu-Toro (medium fat tuna), Oh-Toro (fatties tuna), and even A5 Wagyu. Where else can you get Oh-Toro and A5 Wagyu sushi for just $30? And there is no limit! You can order all 8 pieces of wagyu if that is what you like. I had ordered Salmon Sashimi, 8 Nigiri (1 Yellowtail Scallion, 1 Seared Scallop, 1 Botan Ebi, 2 Chu Toro, 2 Oh Toro, and 1 Wagyu), and 2 Handrolls (1 Hot & Spicy Blue Crab and 1 Wagyu). The salmon sashimi was very fresh with a dash of ponzu sauce and sesame seeds. The nigiris are also very fresh, but I was not a fan of the sear on the scallop or the toro pieces. However, I still enjoy the butteriness of the toro. I I highly recommend the wagyu nigiri, which is topped with black truffle sauce/salt and melts in your mouth. Honestly, my friend and I didn't have plan to go to Bondi. We were just do some business around the area then she got very hungry so we were craving for raw fish. It was a bit walk in a windy Sunday evening to the restaurant but we made it to the place. It is a contemporary and modern vibe place. We both had Omakase 12 pieces nigiri tasting menu and some appetizers. Most of the time we always order wine when we eat out but for fish we decided to get "Suigei Drunken Whale" instead. Walked in for a late lunch around 3pm and it was a great experience. The salmon sashimi and the tuna chip appetizers were easily the best items I tried. It was better than omakase since you're able to pick the combinations of sushi you'd like to have instead of mostly being surprised everytime. this review is for takeout ONLY. i got a spicy tuna rice bowl on mealpal which was really easy to grab and go for lunch. i showed the workers my mealpal app and they told me which shelf to pick it up from, overall process took less than 2 minutes. unfortunately for the price, i didn't really see how this was different than regular poke bowls, with the exception of the fish tasting a bit more fresh and there clearly being a lot of care when plating the bowl. i will say that they mean SPICY when they say spicy tuna. i'm not really good with spice and thought it would be an average spicy level, but it kind of killed me and my coworker was just hearing me sniffle the entire lunch time LOL i don't think this is a bowl i would try again from bondi, but i'm looking forward to trying out some of their rolls in the future! read more

Each box had great variety that included 4 different rolls with 4 pieces each including ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce. The fish was so fresh and the rolls were very big! We especially enjoyed the yellowtail scallion roll and salmon avocado roll that came with the classic box. Our favorite from the Hotbox were the spicy salmon and spicy tuna.
