Hubs & son love wings. I do not. They're messy, and I don't usually like to eat chicken skin. Bonchon may have changed my mind. Visiting my son & DIL this past weekend, both of my son's dining suggestions were wing-focused. But my vegetarian DIL (she eats some seafood) seemed to be more interested in Bonchon than the other potential spot, so I took her side to make our choice. I can usually find something to eat on any menu, in spite of my immature palette, and Bonchon was no exception. In fact, there are several other things I want to try now! We started with the Korean Cucumber Salad & Bao Buns with Pork Belly. No one that knows me will be surprised that the cucumber salad was much too hot for me. But here is something unexpected... I loved the cole slaw on the Bao Bun, and the sauces were complementary enough that the spice level was fine for me. I would definitely order the Bao Buns again, and try the other meats. For my meal, I ordered the Bibimbap with Bulgogi, and really enjoyed it. Their marinated beef was very tasty, and of course I love an egg on just about anything. Another (non)shock, I did not care for the Bibimbap Sauce because it was rather hot; I appreciated that it was served on the side. Hubs said the mushrooms & caramelized onions were very good, but I didn't eat either. Then I tried a Classic Crunch drumstick, and fell in love! Yes, I bit into it like y'all do, and ate the skin, too. What a delicious piece of chicken! I didn't even need a dipping sauce (& I can't remember what the boys chose anyway). My son insisted that I'd enjoy a Korean BBQ wing also, and I'm sure I would, but I was already getting full. Next time! Also for my next visit, my DIL got a Mopo Corndog as her appetizer (though she also ate a lot of the cucumber salad), and it looked amazing! The name was confusing (to me), but there is no hot dog inside, so I want to try one. Fried mozzarella & potato cubes! They have two versions, so of course I want to try both; although I'm rather skeptical about the sugar-cinnamon coating, I'm anticipating an unexpectedly delicious bite. Service was fantastic, although they weren't very busy yet on this Saturday evening. Our server was very attentive & friendly, and none of us waited for a new drink or refill. Bonchon has the best Korean fried chicken around! The drumsticks, bone-in wings and strips are all great, you can't go wrong with any of these options. My go-to order always includes the drumsticks. I really like them because they are on the smaller side. They are super crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I love the spicy and soy garlic equally so I always order half and half. My favorite sides are the pickled radish and the seasoned French fries. The pickled radish are bite-sized cubes, vinegary and refreshing. Perfect compliment to the Korean fried chicken. The French fries are perfectly crispy then tossed in herbs, Parmesan cheese and parley - so yummy! I can't wait until our next visit to Bonchon! read more

We went about noon 3-12-26. We were seated right away by a very nice hostess. The restaurant was clean. As it being our first visit, the waitress was very patient in explaining the lunch menus. My husband ordered the yum yum drumsticks, fries and doughnut. I ordered drumsticks with soy garlic sauce, and kimchee. First me say the food was outstanding! The chicken was flavorful and crispy, the fries were the best, kimchee was not as spicy as I expected but that was ok. The doughnut knocked our socks off. Why the low score? The hygiene of the staff - except for our waitress. As we were following the hostess to our table, there was a scent of dirty hair and b.o. i smelled it again when she sat someone close to us. There was also a blond guy that was cleaning tables when we arrived. He kept scratching his head, wiping his nose with his fingers, and scratching his ears and shaking his big fluffy hair. It turned my stomach when he was the one that brought our food to us - he was nice though. I was so hungry, since I had not eaten breakfast, and I could only eat one drumstick and a bite of the kimchee - ok, and half the outstanding doughnut. This place was my absolute favorite until March of 2026, they stopped selling the massive drumsticks and switched to smaller ones, the breading wasn't as good and the overall quality of the food like fries and kimchi went down. I don't eat out often but this was a treat, unfortunately nothing good lasts forever. read more

Fast casual dining. Always consistent but it can get expensive quickly for what you get. It's worth it for flavors and enjoyment but I do wish it was a little more economical. Then again, if it was, my wardrobe would probably shrink. The double fried chicken is straight fire. The tiny serving of rice or cole slaw doesn't increase with the amount of chicken you order. 10 wings or 30, 5 drums or 15 - you get the same portion of a side. No sampling of sauce before ordering! We have been here a few times and there are items I love. This time we wanted to try the fried chicken. There were a few flavors we were interested in. We asked to try the dipping sauce. We did not want a sample of the chicken with the sauce. I made it clear that we were only asking for a plate or cardboard serving dish and a small dot of the four sauces. Literally just to dip a finger and taste. Instead we were told that it is against this location's policy but we could try them at the Town Center location. Ryan (owner or manager?) sees that this is strictly enforced. I have been to Korea and this food is anything but Korean. It is the most American Korean food you've ever had in your life. I would say that it is mediocre at best and I would probably go somewhere else to eat if you have a choice. The fried chicken is pretty good but skip the fried zucchini the way they flavor it you would think you're at an Italian restaurant. It's also heavily breaded in the zucchini or so thin you can't even taste it. The kimchi is straight out of a jar for sure. Our server was too busy on his phone in the corner of the restaurant instead of actually servicing the customers. I had a good experience the first few times but over the past year, the wings had gotten quite smaller and not as juicy as before. Also, the prices had gotten up a lot. I came up for a quick lunch and order 2 entrees & an appetizer; my total came out around $65, I didn't expect it to be that amount especially on lunch items and the portions are smaller. This place was my first experience with "KFC" - Korean Fried Chicken. It's amazing, with that truly unique crispness and great flavor. My GF and I also tried a few different other items from the menu (I liked the Bulgogi tacos), and they were all very good. Our server was knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. Thank goodness this location is much closer to home! I've been to this location twice (on 10/12/21 and 10/29/21) and never fails. Located next to Cinemark in the Durbin Town center with plenty of parking and shopping stores. The staff is nice and the the place is always kept clean. We ordered the Half & Half Bone-In Medium (20 pcs) with coleslaw, Japchae and Seasoned Fries. The wings were hot, crispy and cooked very well. Spicy is my favorite as I love the burn. Coleslaw is, well, coleslaw lol. Japchae was delicious and the seasoned fries were fantastic as usual. No complaints as we enjoyed our evening meal. Funny thing that they accidentally brought in the strips and quickly realized their mistake. Luckily, I only took a photo before they picked it right up. We've had Bonchon on our must try list for a while now, and finally made the connection after seeing a movie next door in the Durbin shopping center. The staff at this restaurant are on the ball and very friendly. They provided good guidance for a couple of newbies who had never tried Korean Fried Chicken before. We got a small order of boneless wings, half spicy and half Soy Garlic. Both were excellent and of course the chicken is super crispy due to their double frying process. The spicy really isn't all that hot, which is great since we weren't looking for a mouth burn. For a side, we ordered the House Fried Rice with Soy Garlic chicken and were really surprised at how good that dish was. The seasonings are perfectly balanced. Bonchon is a family favorite. They had one back home in Las Vegas, so we were pleasantly surprised they had a location here as well. Service is always on point with friendly servers. Today we had their boneless wings in soy garlic flavor. My wife usually orders the regular wings with bone, but to appease my laziness, she agreed to order the boneless. She did feel the bone in wings are better, but personally, I can't tell a difference. So +1 for the convenience of no bone. =) I had their Korean Tacos with Bulgogi and it is just heavenly. Granted, I'm a big bulgogi fan, so I'm a bit biased. But gosh, bulgogi is so delicious. How can you not like it? =) I also tried their Korean donut, which I forgot to take a picture of. We have fond memories of having fantastic Korean fried chicken years ago when we lived in the DC suburbs. Everyone called it "Crack Chicken." Because it was addictive? Or because it was so crunchy? The places were all mom and pop businesses in a pretty large Korean community. The old places we used to frequent were all a bit better and maybe more authentic. And, like a typical Korean BBQ, they would serve a big spread of complementary banchan -- a variety of little side dishes like picked daikon radish, kimchi, rice, spinach, seasoned bean sprouts, cucumber salad, etc. for sharing as an appetizer or throughout the meal. Here in Jacksonville, our two Bonchon options are part of the same chain. Maybe not as fantastic of a crunch as we remember back in DC, but it's definitely not bad. My first experience with this chain was when the one at the Town Center opened a few years ago. It was right between lunch and dinner time, so I was a bit discouraged when the waiter told me it would be 40 minutes for chicken. Not because they were busy, but because they were unprepared, I guess? Now, this shouldn't be entirely surprising since you want your chicken cooked through and you want it "double-fried" crunchy. You can't always go in with the expectation that it's a fast food experience. But it wasn't a great experience, and for years, we never went back. Until a new one opened up at Durbin Pavillion, and we finally gave in to temptation and gave them another shot. So, for today's adventure, we each got the lunch 6-piece (2 wings, 2 drumettes, and 2 full-size drumsticks) with a mix of spicy, soy garlic, and Korean BBQ sauces. She got seasoned fries, and I got pickled daikon for a side. Just one side. No big spread of side dishes like a traditional Korean restaurant. After my first experience with this chain, we were a bit surprised at how fast the food came out. There must be a way to prep the chicken ahead of time and drop it to reheat and perform the magical second crisping. It was all very good. Her fries were really fantastic. The spicy chicken was the best. But the other two flavors were really pretty good, too. And the staff was great. There are a few other options on the menu. My daughter has been asking to try this restaurant for the longest; It was definitely a great choice! It being our first visit we wanted to try as much as possible. We ordered multiple appetizers and a 10 piece of wings for the table to share. We ordered potstickers, Korean beef tacos,pork belly buns, and beef sliders. They were out of the shrimp shumai so we will need to get that next time we come. Everything had wonderful flavor. However in order of favorites for us would be 1. The wings (spicy & soy garlic) 2. Potstickers 3. Mochi 4. Pork belly buns 5. The wings (sweet crunchy) 6. Beef sliders 7. Korean beef tacos The restaurant does a phenomenal job of taking safety measures for COVID. Delicious experience this afternoon at Bonchon-St Johns Durbin Pavilion location. We've been meaning to try this new establishment for a while and we are now wondering why didn't we visit much sooner. Fast, friendly service and not too busy today at 2:30 when we picked up our order. The online order process was fairly easy. Once we arrived, we clicked the link in the order confirmation indicating we were there. The brand-new location is well-constructed and the interior is nicely put together and clean. We chose the "lunch special menu" combination of 4 wings/drumsticks and one complimentary side to try for our very first visit. *Tip: Lunch menu prices are good Monday through Friday from 11-3. I was so excited when we got into the house. The wings and drumsticks were still warm as home is just around the corner of 3 miles. These were soooo GOOD! Crunchy and crispy on the outside, and juicy on the inside! The double fried cooking method is worth the hype! I recommend the soy garlic sauce choice unless you are up for some serious spice. The kimchi coleslaw we picked for the side was also good. I do recommend this one if you love nice and spicy! My husband is the spicy lover of food between us. Lol. Next, the seafood fried rice was also an EXCELLENT one! Fried rice, eggs, red bell pepper, onions, scallions, shrimp, scallops and calamari cooked with Soy Garlic sauce, topped with sesame seeds and fresh cucumber garnish. Yes, yes, yall. It's Bonchon-Durbin's soft opening today (9/16/20) and I am so elated. This is the Bonchon's 3rd location in Jacksonville; this one happens to be the closest for me. No more far drives. Before you know it, I can just roll off my bed, open the patio and BAMMM....Bonchon in my back yard. #Pfft #WishfulThinking   Bonchon is the latest to open up in the first phase of the Pavilion at Durbin Creek in the St Johns area. The first phase will house a multi-tenant shopping area and once complete, it will rival the local Jacksonville shopping areas like the Town Center. I didn't experience any "Soft Opening Blues" here. Nice, friendly staff. My order was made rather quickly. Kudos to all the staff. Taste impressions... Sweet Crunch Wings (5/5): Honestly any Wing flavor you order at Bonchon is a sure fire win. Always done right, nice and very crispy skin. Japchae (4/5): I love Japchaes. This one is not that bad. It needed just abit more flavor. Finally made it over to the new Bonchon in Durbin Park and was pretty impressed. It was Friday night and we were able to get a table within about 5 minutes after sitting down at the bar and order some drinks. Just a heads up they do not have liquor if that's what you are craving. Once seated are our table we did have to wait a little for our server to comes get our drink order as well as appetizers. As always we ordered too much. We went with the Korean Tacos with Spicy Chicken, Pork Buns ( $11.95 each) and the Seasoned Fries ($6.95) All the apps were very good but for sure one the pricier side. Once could order the Korean Tacos and Pork Buns and still not be full. It also hurt to pay $7 for fries but I come back around to the fact that everything was very good. I do suggest getting some of their Spicy Mayo for dipping the fries in. For my entrée I got a small combo which comes with 9 pieces, 6 wings and 3 drums for $14.25. I will say I don't understand the difference in price for wings vs drums there isn't that much of a size difference. For my sauce I went half Soy Garlic and Half Sweet and Crispy. We ordered the spicy boneless chicken they comes with rice it was amazing best chicken I have had in a long time and I don't even like chicken. The fries were tasty. I'm hoping to try a stir fry dish next time. The only downside is they don't offer to go cups for your drink and I drink soda super slow so we had to sit there until I could get most of it down since I could not take it to go. In fact, this is an ol' reliable spot for us. They've never let us down! I am not a fried food person but their chicken is by far the best i've had. The spicy flavor has the appropriate hotness and a hint of sweet. If you are looking for real spicy try the chicken taco appetizer. Hot sauce is floating around the chicken and you will need a lot of water to finish. I recommend the Korean bulgogi tacos, bulgogi fried rice, their fried chicken tenders or wings, and the pork buns! I have enjoyed everything from their menu that I've tried and honestly the hardest part is deciding what I want. The only con to this place is obviously the prices but I would pay anything when I'm craving their bulgogi fried rice! It's really not overly expensive and it's good for date night if you like to share 2 or 3 entrees to try everything. Alright let's see, me and my girlfriend were so amped to try this place and from the second we stepped in we were so disappointed. For one, the young lady who took us to our table seemed to have been in a horrendous mood. Didn't greet us, and there was no warmth to the "welcome". She seemed to have been annoyed from the previous guest she was helping and let it bleed into our experience. She asked how many, we said three and she collected three menus and walked away. I looked at my girlfriend and simply said "I guess we're following her?". After being seated we did have an admittedly great server. A stockier built gentleman who was very kind and very helpful. We were disappointed that when we asked for a sauce on the side we were told they weren't allowed to do that and even the server had previously gotten in trouble for getting sauce on the side for his own meal. Seemed kind of silly, considering there could be ingredients in the sauce that someone at our table may have been allergic to, and it was a shared item. While the food was rich in taste, and our server was fantastic, the initial impression of the girl who sat us, and the idiocy of not being able to get sauces on the side was enough for us to not want to return. It may seem ridiculous that the sauce thing was a big deal, but the way they described it it's like they think you're going to take their sauce, reverse engineer it, and open your own restaurant. I would have eaten here five times in a week if I didn't have a budget and had to leave Florida. I couldn't believe the crunch, the flavor, the perfect meat to batter ratio. But even more, I could not believe how amazing those Parmesan fries were! I have not been able to find another Korean fried chicken place like this! The servers were helpful and friendly, and the food came out piping hot. They also stay open late, so it's a perfect place to go for those late night chicken cravings. Based on the amount of customers coming in and out, they probably don't need me to say anything. But go! If you're driving past or leave near-ish, give this place a try!
