Teriyaki chicken bowl (sweet chili mayo)
    Alex X.

A new healthy bowl fast-casual restaurant prioritizing fresher ingredients. Get the sauce on the side, and always ask for samples if you're unsure. I talked with the owner at length since he was around for the opening, and he really emphasized how important to the store it was to get the freshest ingredients possible. From the always-fresh chicken and steak ("New York strip!"), to the meticulous brand choices for the black rice ("specifically pressure cooked to perfection") and the white rice ("this [REDACTED] brand is the best!"), it's clear that there's a lot of deliberate choices and love behind the portion sizes, veggies, proteins, and even the branding ("everything but two things are gluten free"). I would personally recommend the sweet potato noodles, the steak, and the roasted chickpeas as the highlights of the menu. I think the base proteins being three different sauced chickens and tofu is a bit disappointing, as getting the premium bowl at $19 makes it an expensive meal compared to all the options in the rest of the plaza. Also, the one time I got the sweet chili mayo on top, it overpowered the rest of the bowl, so while the sauces are all good I'd still strongly recommend getting all sauces on the side. There's a lot of different salad bases, but while those don't really appeal as much to me, it does spoil the average consumer for choice. If you're unsure of what to try, there's a really generous sampling policy currently where you can basically try everything. In terms of quality, you can't go wrong!

Boltiful Fresh Kitchen recently opened their second location in Santa Clara in the Rivermark Plaza!! You can build your own protein bowls and I love how each ingredient is gluten-free and baked. I got a bowl with spring mix, sweet potato noodles, shrimp and BBQ chicken and it was very flavorful and yummy. Boltiful is definitely the place to satisfy your hunger with a delicious, high-protein meal.

Boltiful just opened their second location in Rivermark and it's the perfect spot if you're trying to eat clean without sacrificing flavor. Everything here is made with fresh ingredients, and the best part -- you can fully customize your bowl! Pick your base, veggies, protein, toppings, and sauce to build exactly what you're craving. My go-to combo: - Salmon - Potatoes - Brussels sprouts - Sweet potato noodles - Sweet chili mayo So filling, balanced, and actually hits every time! They also offer catering (and I've heard they're a go-to for a lot of tech offices ) The owners are super sweet and I can tell they are really passionate about what they are building here. If you're in the area, come by to support!

We heard about this place recently and came in to try it. Seems like this location just started couple of weeks ago. So impressed! Great healthy options to pick. Especially with families who have all diverse requirements, this is a perfect place. Plenty of vegetarian options. The veggies are grilled so well too. My personal favorite was the black rice, it was perfect. Teriyaki chicken was the most popular option and we liked it. I missed trying the kale salad, next time! The sweet potato noodles were a little on the sweeter side, but it was a great hit with the kids. Tip: Take the sauce on the side, so that you can relish the flavors of the meat and veggies too.

If you want a place that sells your typical healthy food, but without the healthy labelling kind, look no further than your locally Asian-owned green business -- Boltiful Kitchen! I want to give a big shoutout to the Boltiful Kitchen staff for giving me the opportunity to try (and purchase) some new things at the store -- along with some goodies that they gave us. They had a wide variety of drinks available -- from mango lemonade, to Thai tea, and iced tea, and more. They also had fountain drinks as well, and honestly it made all the difference. There were different types and varieties of vegetables and grains to choose from, ranging from jasmine rice to kale bits and more. I love how there are a wide variety of protein options to choose from, including teriyaki chicken, barbecue chicken, miso glazed tofu, and more. They also had spicy Thai shrimp, roasted salmon, and more premium options -- all of which were really good options because none of the proteins were ever fried or put through the frying process. It neither contained any MSG. The ambiance was BRAND new, and I'm so glad they opened this location for all the people who live in the Rivermark. All in all, this experience was such an amazing one and I'm glad that a second location opened for all the people who live around the Rivermark Santa Clara -- or who have activities that happen around that area. A must recommend!

I've been craving a good bowl and really missing Cava, so I was so happy to finally try this place out. It's basically a build your own bowl spot where you can customize everything with their fresh toppings or choose from their created signature bowls. The employees were so sweet, answered all of my questions and even let me sample after telling them it was my first time. I liked the variety of their protein options, but I probably wouldn't go for the chicken again. I liked the flavor a lot, I just didn't like that it had a lot of bones and it was veiny. I liked the steak, it was really tender. A lot of their better proteins were $4 extra, so it could get a little pricey. Overall still a very fresh and tasty spot that I'd come back to!

    Tofu Bowl

I wasn't planning to stop at Boltiful Fresh Kitchen. I just saw it was newly opened at Rivermark Plaza in Santa Clara and thought -- why not. That was the right call. I ordered two bowls: the veggie and the spicy Thai shrimp. The shrimp had this slow-building heat that actually made me pause mid-bite. The veggie bowl was the kind of thing you eat and feel genuinely good about -- not in a sad salad way, in a "I'm actually full and happy" way. Everything is built in front of you. Open kitchen, fresh ingredients, zero mystery about what's going into your bowl. The sauces are all house-made and gluten-free, and the portions are generous without feeling heavy. The kids eat free deal every Saturday and Sunday is the kind of thing that makes a newly opened restaurant an instant regular spot for families. Smart move by them.

My lady and I stumbled upon this restaurant after seeing the other restaurant we originally want to go to closed for Easter Sunday. We walked in and were immediately greeted by workers and what seemed like the owners as well. We told them it was our first visit and a kind gentlemen gave us a rundown on the menu and let us know it was actually the last day for their BOGO Bowl deal since they just opened recently. I ordered a bowl with Kale salad, black rice, Tuscan Zucchini, and BBQ chicken. My lady ordered Sweet Potato Noodles, Kale salad, Herb roasted potatoes and Chimichurri Steak. The food overall was pretty solid, it's another, "build your own"' style of restaurant. My lady and I found that the Kale salad was a little dry as well as the black rice not being as soft as we'd like. The taste of the protein options were pretty flavorful. I hope to see more and newer protein options in the future too. My favorite things were the glass noodles and the herb roasted potatoes. For the portion size/taste, price, and customer service we got for our first visit I couldn't really complain.

    Lemon and Asian chicken
    Richard W.

Grand opening store in Rivermark Plaza - with special BOGO offer, I customized my bowl to include lemon chicken, Asian chicken, broccoli, corn, cucumber, button mushrooms, Soybeans and almonds - with a combo base of spinach and clear noodles. $18 per bowl but then $4 extra for anything other protein than chicken or tofu. Salmon, shrimp, steak, which is slightly sneaky. Creamy garlic and pesto dressing both add a positive dimension to the palate, otherwise, most of the ingredients are quite bland. It's a large portioned bowl that very much fills you up. Boltiful is a great healthy option compared to the other restaurant options in the plaza.

Build your bowl - Chimichurri steak

Came here on grand opening day. They got pretty busy but was able to move the line pretty quickly. It's like a build your own bowl style restaurant. Their ingredients are all health focused, but their food is still good and filling.

    black rice, lettuce. roasted salmon...

Came here for something light and fresh, and it turned out to be exactly what I needed. I built my own bowl with black rice, romaine, broccoli, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, and roasted salmon, with a light herbal dressing. The balance was really nice -- fresh but not too heavy, and the roasted salmon added a warm, comforting touch. What I liked most is that you can customize everything, so it's easy to make something that feels both healthy and actually satisfying (not just a cold salad that leaves you hungry). The ingredients tasted fresh, and the portions were solid. Overall, a great spot if you're looking for a clean, customizable meal that still feels good to eat. Would definitely come back.

The mussels were definitely the standout - the sauce was so flavorful and unforgettable that we were tempted to ask for extra bread just to soak it all up. We also really enjoyed the cocktails. We ended our meal with the loukoumades, 3 beignets balls topped with banana brulèe, a custard, and pecans also went with Annalisse's recommendation to add a scoop of vanilla gelato, and this made completed the evening. Definitely worth getting the umami fries as they were seasoned to perfection. A perfect starting side! Horsefeather is a perfect brunch spot to stop by and try in this Old Town and Country Palo Alto plaza. I have never heard of this chain nor in their other locations before and was definitely satisfied afterwards with their great dishes and their aesthetically modern decorated interior. The dishes here are American so you'd get what you typically get for breakfast from scrambles to French Toast, and we ordered the French Toast, the Chicken and Waffles, and a Salad during our visit here. All of what was ordered was perfect and beautifully plated upon arrival and out of all that was ordered, I have to say the chicken and waffles with their matcha butter & syrup was their standout dish. I have never seen matcha infused with butter but it was perfect and complimented the waffle just right. The chicken was fried and juicy inside and the waffle in general was toasted with just the right amount of crisp on the outside and soft interior. French Toast was a definite close contender too, where the toast was still gooey soft as expected and served with syrup & cream on the side. Salad was good but nothing too extraordinary about it. The staff here were all very nice and on a busy lunch day, I was surprised & pretty sure just lucky was able to get a table in less than 10 min on a Sunday. For weekend brunch, Horsefeather is a perfect spot to visit & enjoy the pre-afternoon before enjoying Palo Alto. I would highly recommend checking this place out and will definitely be back for more.

Hey there party People…read more Decided to venture into Willow Glen today on the hunt for something new to try. Boy howdy did we hit the Mother Load with "The Table". We hit the Brunch hour and the place was rocking. We were able to sit right down amazingly. There is a fabulous patio to people watch and enjoy the California weather. Our server Charles was really great. He walked us through the menu giving us the 911 on watch to order. Most of the plates were perfect shareable bites. Making it easy to try multiple plates and really get your inner Foodie on. We started with the Seasonal Banana Pancakes with crushed walnuts and cinnamon maple syrup. Inside the pancakes were fresh bananas and the walnuts were crushed very small but added a great texture. Moving on to the Chicago Steak sandwich don't get confused but in Chicago they refer to Roast Beef as steak. The Au Jus dip was very flavorful without being a salt bomb. Loved the potato roll they used all round a killer sandwich. Going a little outside the box we tried the Jerk Chicken Sandwich. The pineapple slaw with this amazing peppery chutney type sauce played so well with the acid of the pineapple. Another must have sandwich. I ask you how can you go to a new restaurant and not have some dessert. With everything else being so good our expectations were pretty high and we were not disappointed. The Giant Profiterole is exactly that GIANT and stuffed with White Chocolate Gelato and Hot Chocolate Sauce that you can drizzle over the top. To fricken die for good. This was supposed to be a special birthday dinner date that my husband meticulously planned for me,…read morebut it turned into the most horrendous dining experience I've ever had. We dined at Lira on November 14th. The Service (or Lack Thereof): The Menu Shortage: We arrived for our 6:45 PM reservation only to be told by the manager that they didn't have enough menus. We were told they'd bring them "later." Ignored for 35+ Minutes: We sat with nothing but water for over half an hour. To make matters worse, a table of six was seated after us and received their full entrees while we were completely ignored. The Drink Mess: After 40 minutes, the server told me they were out of ingredients for my drink. When I picked a second option, she tried to insist I wanted a drink with celery (my most despised vegetable). We thankfully stopped her before it was made, but the incompetence was staggering. The Food Fiasco: An hour into our reservation, someone dropped off a scallop dish. A while later, a server asked if I'd "received the scallops yet," and I realized the plate I was eating wasn't even intended for our table. We were so starving that my husband and I just shared them. Once we finished, the server finally asked my husband if he "still wanted his meal or if he wanted to cancel it." I finally lost my cool - of course he still wanted his dinner! The Aftermath: My husband didn't realize that my friends had actually made a separate reservation to take me back to this same spot the following night for a second birthday celebration. After this performance, there was no way I was going to step foot in this building again or give them another cent of our money. I texted my friends from the table to cancel those reservations and book elsewhere. With service this disorganized and insulting, this restaurant won't be in business long. Super disappointing. Don't waste your special occasions here. *Edit - it looks like Lira has closed. With the service we experienced, I am not surprised in the slightest. I thought some dishes were great; the wagyu burger was decadent. Other dishes were not that special. The scallops didn't taste too fresh (likely frozen) and combining them with hummus didn't quite work. The side of bread was practically insulting. $5 for stale table bread was a surprise. Dishes arrived very late; we were nearly forgotten when we tried to order, and then after ordering, we waited 40 minutes between appetizers and the main course. Not because they were cooking it; they just forgot we were there and when they brought out the dishes, the scallops were no longer just-cooked, and the burger had been sitting for a bit. No apology, just an acknowledgment it was late, and no discount (not even on the stale bread). They offered us wine, we said we didn't drink, and they just moved on. I debated a lot about how to review this. It's my personal experience that was disappointing, and I'm glad some reviews are very upbeat.
