The facial was another day. I've never had an Aveda facial and it was lovely. Very soothing and no overpowering scents. I got a cut & color done by Paige & I must say, she is fantastic! Very friendly & knows what she's doing. For a junior stylist she is impressive! She cut my hair as I asked & even my bangs turned out amazing (which never has happened). In the past I've had some decent cuts & colors but it's always when I go home & do it myself it's a disaster! Even the day after doing my hair was a breeze! No bangs sticking up & no out of control or badly cut curls! I've had my share of bad haircuts but boy am I glad I took a chance & booked an appointment at Silver Shears. I can't wait to go back! Edit: March 6, 2012 As it turns out my color is a little off. Instead of it being all one color, I have a dark reddish on the top of my head & dark dark brown on the bottom. It wasn't that noticable when it was first done but it sure is noticable now. Will be going to the salon tonight to see if they will fix it. Will update later. Update: March 10, 2012 Got my color fixed no problem & it looks great! Look forward to my next visit! :)

I live in Millwoods so I was looking for a new salon on the southside, when I found out that a girl I went to high school has been working at a salon in St. Albert for the last 10 years. Kristy was really excited when I told her I needed her to make the decisions for me and just do what she thinks would look good. She sent me some pictures before my appointment of what she had in mind. It was PERFECT. The salon itself is a pretty standard strip mall salon. Nothing fancy... but it's quite clean. The staff were all very friendly and genuinely seemed to get a long and they all seem to really support each other. I'll definitely be coming back to this salon... hopefully for years to come.

I really appreciated that the stylist I came to see noticed some flaws in the cut I had previously received and helped me towards fixing the error in the future, although it would take a bit of growth to correct. She also sounded like she'd help you get the look you want, but would advise you against things that would really damage your hair, which I completely respect. It was such a good experience that I've already booked my next appointment.

She cut my sides and bangs VERY short, nothing like what I SHOWED her I wanted. I told her I wanted something feminine, hair on the sides I could sweep forward, and even showed her a past photo of when my bangs had been butchered (I told her I feel anxious every time I come to the salon because of awful cuts I've received like it) and she went ahead and cut them too short anyway saying that we would start with that and could always cut them shorter if I wanted. I showed her photos of what I thought was feminine vs young and funky. I did NOT get feminine. (I'm also 50!) I asked that my highlights not be spikey, I showed her a photo with more chunks, but was given spikey - and a copper colour, not the auburn I asked for. I returned a few days later to ask her to shave the sides and back one shorter so there was contrast between the top and sides. I felt the need to talk to her about how upset I was. While talking I told her that I was very disappointed with my cut and that it wasn't what I asked for. She agreed with me that 1) my head was an odd shape now with this cut 2) that it was NOT going to grow out nicely (another thing I told her was important to me and after two weeks it is already sprouting up in odd spots), 3) to keep my cowlick in mind (big hole there now that she agreed was hard to deal with) and 4) I should probably see a barber next time instead of going to a salon because they would be more qualified with a cut like this. With tip (that I absolutely regret paying) I paid over $250 for this. She seemed nervous during the cut, she didn't show me the sides or back with a mirror so I didn't realize how bad it was until I got home, and when you go to pay and the guy at the counter can't muster up a "you look great!" (despite what he thinks), it makes you feel awful. Needless to say, I will NOT be returning. She couldn't even offer the slightest apology.

As soon as I saw Emily I knew she was the stylist for me. I had a lot of photos to show her and she understood what it was that I wanted from the start. As Emily was carefully cutting my hair I had time to look at the other stylists, clients, and the place itself. It feels like a calm, and caring place where everyone was relaxed and sipping on an offered beverage. When I found out that this is a family run salon I liked it even more. Other stylists helped to weigh in on which products would be best for my hair and then Emily found a cheaper version so that I had a choice. There is even a free bang trim between cuts which is appreciated. Somehow by the end of my cut my hair looked like my favorite part of each photo I had shown Emily. I will definitely be back ! I feel like if someone with long hair comes in and what they want sounds like a huge cut to the stylist, they should say that because i had no idea that simple layers meant chopping off a good 6-7 inches of hair.
