o5.11.2o22 Came for an early dinner. We walked in around 5:30ish and it was empty. I was being greeted immediately. We were deciding if we should eat in or take out. We eventually decided to eat in. The staffs spoke Cantonese which my husband said it makes him feel at home. Haha The waitress brought us a teapot right after we got seated. My husband added, woah not many restaurants do this anymore. Which it's true! I know Mama Lu's used to serve tea but the last time we were there, they didn't. Then the waitress brought over a plate of peanuts! What!? Anyway, everything on the menu looked super delicious! From the photos to the came of the dish, not so much on the price though. Then again, everything had gone up in price so it's pretty average if you compare it to other similar restaurants. Cost of living is just way too crazy now! We ordered the seafood chowmein, fried intestines, and seabass in pot with brown sauce or something like that. I liked the seafood chowmein more than comparing to most other restaurants that serves the same dish. Theirs is not too salty, not overly sauced, and the vegetables were crunchy not mushy and soft. It was very light like what most Cantonese food should be. The seabass was very good! The fried intestines were very crunchy. Some thick pieces I wasn't able to chew it well but the flavor is good. We were pretty stuffed. We asked for the check and boxes for the food which the waiter offered to box it for us. Then they brought us the bill and green bean dessert! That's crazy! Not many Cantonese style restaurants still serves dessert after the meal. I was extra stuffed bc I finished the dessert. Lol We will definitely return to try other dishes! I have been dining here with my family for many years, back in the days when their Lunch Specials were $4.99 and if you buy 4 you would get a Free half of a Soy Sauce chicken. Of course, years later now their Lunch items cost $10 and no more free items but unlike other places the portion amounts are proper. I have seen many places where they charge you less for Lunch, and their portion is ridiculously small. A lot of times they don't have enough workers when it gets busy on weekends, and I see too many flies when it gets warm. read more

Tried it due to recommendations in Sgv eats but this was quite disappointing. Shrimp with veggies was ugh (shrimp was way soft, mushy... almost like from freezer burn). Filet mignon with pepper was chuck beef and mostly onions. The oil from the friend squid was old. Peking pork chop was fat although some pieces had ok meat. Im normally extremely picky with my Chinese food, but this place is one of the few that I approve and like. The thing to get is the house special cod soup, the bowl is large and comes boiling over a fire. It's a little sour, gingery, garlicky, and full of cod and other good ingredients including mushrooms and radish. Can be ordered spicy or no spicy, but we got it non spicy so drinking the fish soup would not be a problem, it's super "sweet" as in full of fish flavor. I've never had this dish as good anywhere else. Also had the Kung pao shrimp which was ok, and the filet mignon chopped in French style. The beef is soft and not too chewy. Also the green bean is very flavorful as it is chopped and absorbs a lot of sauce. This should preferably be eaten with rice rather than by itself. Service can be a bit slow if they're busy, but they give you complementary soup at the beginning! Ambiance can be a bit loud too so don't feel bad about taking it to go! read more

I am always on the lookout for more options for Cantonese stir fry. I randomly found this restaurant on Yelp, saw they had very reasonably priced lunch specials with soup, tea, and rice, so I decided to come here with my parents for lunch. Their lunch menu is very generous, with a wide variety of options. We ended up getting sweet and sour pork, stir fried chicken and bean sprouts, and deep fried fish filet. The soup was a winter melon soup, which was very tasty and didn't have an overpowering MSG flavor. The rice was decent. We first got the stir fried chicken and bean sprouts. The stir fry was quite tasty, had good wok hei, and I loved that it came fresh off the wok. The sweet and sour pork was just slightly on the tougher side, but still good. It was crunchy, if just slightly too crunchy, but the flavor was on point. The fish filet was ok. The sauce was a bit unusual for me. *Hidden Gem* This place has been here awhile now, yet i never knew about it. Its located at a corner of a small plaza and nothing really got my attention to come here until it was recommended by my brother in laws family and im glad i tagged along! It's not the fanciest place. Decor is generic but clean. They also don't have the sweetest customer service from this community restaurant but for the price, portions and flavor, its definitely worth it. My family has been coming here for years!! The CHILEAN SEA BASS BELLY HOT POT (10/10) is magnificent... high quality buttery fish in a spicy (spice is optional) pickled vegetable soup? So decadent yet pretty healthy! I'm all for it. I promised myself I would come back and order some. I'm so glad that I did. They were delicious. My children were not too thrilled with their orange chicken. They said it was too lemony. There is a minimum purchase amount that must be paid to use a debit card, $20. They are not used to non-Asian people there, so you will get stared at... but don't let it stop you. Second time I ordered takeout at 4:30pm and it was ready by 4:50pm. The black pepper filet mignon cubes with bell peppers was delicious! Fried sole was OK -- prob better if I had eaten it fresh and hot at restaurant. I'd try the other fish dish with sauce next time. We also got the braised pork belly. Comparable to other restaurants. This is sort of a Chinese hot pot type of restaurant. It's super home-y and healthy too! They're popular for the small, medium, or large hot pots. Ingredients come with plenty of veggies, tofu, and fish. All the ingredients are pretty fresh (it also helps that they're my favorite type of veggies.) The fish is extra fatty, but it's what makes it actually taste good, and besides, fish oil is good for you! They also come with the pickled vegetables to start with. And the hot pot has the thick white noodle that was weird to me at first, because I'm used to more thinner noodles in my hot pot, but it does taste quite good after you get used to it! Their chicken is also my FAVORITE. It tastes like childhood for me. I prefer the chicken with rice, because it does run a little salty, but once the hot pot arrives, you could probably eat it with noodles. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! It's like a hidden gem (but not so much among locals because the restaurant was packed on a Wed weeknight). They serve Guangdong style Chinese dishes with seafood hotpot. Highly recommend the Cod Fish Seafood hot pot which they are famous for. You can get it either normal or spicy. We had the normal one and ordered vegetable and noodle on the side. After we finish eating the delicious cod fish (which is calculated by pound, and pretty cheap, we ordered 3lb for 8 people and it was just enough), you can eat the noodles with the soup. The soup is already very flavorful and thick with a strong pepper taste. I can eat this everyday! We also ordered other dishes such as: Fried tofu- Highly recommended, comes with broccoli and shrimp! It's crispy on the outside and hot and soft in the inside. Beef stew- My friends really liked it, but it was a bit plain for me, but the beef texture was great! Fried pork intestine- Delicious! Ordered deep fried ribs. It's by far the best I have ever tasted. Loved the flavor and the portion is big. Veggie is always taste good. The complimentary small dish taste awesome. Did not know it's Broccoli stems. One thing that I wasn't sure about is the fish soup. We order one lbs of fish with the soup non spicy. It has herb and pickle veggie which add the sourness to the soup. The combination was interesting and we didn't finish it. I almost think spicy will make the difference. My mom has been wanting to try Boiling Seafood for quite some time, and she finally got her chance on a Sunday afternoon. This Chinese restaurant specializes in seafood woks (pretty much seafood hot pots), although they also have a variety of Chinese dishes. Even better is that they offer $5.95 lunch specials on a whole bunch of items, all of which include soup and steamed rice. A really good deal for some pretty solid food. This restaurant is located on Garvey in a pretty small plaza. They take up two shop locations - one with the name plaque above the door as well as the location next door, which they give to bigger parties. Parking in the lot is quite difficult to find, but luckily there are lots of street parking spots as well as a lot in the back. Nothing special about the interior of the restaurant. Tables and chairs aren't the cleanest, but you're here for cheap Chinese food, not fancy looking tablecloths and squeaky clean table setting. They are currently offering a special where you order 4 dishes and they'll give you a free chicken (soy or white chicken). I have to say that everything we ordered that day was fairly good! Deep fried tofu: How can you go wrong with deep fried anything right? These tofu pieces were big and super crispy! Loved the crunch from the outside of the tofu while the inside of the tofu stayed silky smooth. Didn't even need the soy sauce that accompanied the tofu - it was that good! Steamed meat patty w/ preserved vegetable: This was one of the last dishes to come out. I thought it was pretty good. Flavor was there - a little sweet from the soy sauce poured on top, but overall a good taste to the meat patty. Tasted really good with rice. Dried bean curd w/ daikon and beef brisket hot pot: Another favorite! This was really flavorful - almost a bit TOO flavorful that it made everything seem a bit too heavy. But I was a fan of everything in this dish. Only complaint is that there wasn't enough dried bean curd! Beef brisket was tender and there was a ton of daikon. I think we also ordered a small classic wok of fish belly: I ended up trying a few pieces of fish belly and was pretty blown away. Super soft and tender - really felt like it went down super smooth. Good flavor to the wok. I especially liked the bamboo shoots and daikon that were mixed in the broth. My parents were also fans of this dish. Highly recommend if you're looking for something on the healthier side. Soy sauce chicken: My parents were originally set on ordering the white chicken with ginger sauce, but the waitress really pushed hard for the soy sauce, saying that it was freshly prepared and all that. She made a good argument for it, and my sister and I are bigger fans of soy sauce chicken than ginger, so we went with the soy sauce. I was pretty surprised at how good it was! For a free chicken, the flavor was pretty solid. I could taste the soy sauce, the chicken was tender and soft - I really enjoyed this. The soup was also really good - the complimentary Chinese soup had a lot of ingredients, super flavorful! tl;dr - Definitely a really good meal that I didn't expect to find here. I really enjoyed everything that we ordered, and even better is that they have a whole ton of items offered on their lunch special menu so you won't get tired of the food if you come back often. I was only here for the lunch specials so that's what I'm reviewing. As of Sept '23, it's still under $10 which is great during these post COVID times of high dining out prices. But they don't skimp on the specials. Portions are still big. For example, the shrimp/scrambled eggs dish had at least ten large shrimps when l've seen other places slide in four or five for their specials. We got two big fish fillets with their yummy sauce. Lots of black mushrooms came with the Chinese broccoli. But there's no noodle dishes on the special menu , unfortunately for noodle lovers. It comes with free rice, tea, and winter melon soup, too. ABSOLUTELY THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. I don't even know where to start. When we were seated, there were bugs crawling on the table and flying around. We literally waited 1 hour for them to give us our first dish. The clams were mostly shells, with no clam meat inside. We ordered 5 dishes, but after 2 hours, we only received 3 of them. So we said to cancel last 2 dishes and just give us the bill. The server said okay and brought it to us. Then finally brought us the last 2 dishes while we were looking at the bill. So we just took those dishes to go.... The restaurant wasn't even full. It took so long because they kept getting things wrong. They gave wrong orders to the table next to us too. Hah. And they also gave us room temperature beer instead of chilled. The lady with the short brownish/blonde hair had the worst attitude. She was so sassy. She kept rolling her eyes whenever we asked a question. One thing we asked was if one of their seafood was fresh or frozen. She said frozen, so we were unsure to order it or not. So then she changes her answer and said it's fresh. Wtf!!!! And when whenever we tried calling her and this other server over to our table, they would look at us and just walk away. Recommended to come here for turtle soup by a friend. It was turtle with chicken and a mixture of Chinese herbs such as dried gogiberries. The broth was flavorful, with a slight medicinal after taste from the herbs. There was way more chicken meat and parts than there were of turtle, which was priced around $25.00 for the large bowl. Turtle is a pricey ingredient, so I could understand why there weren't more than a couple of pieces of turtle in our bowl. Their main specialty is their sea bass stews, which can be ordered regular or spicy. They also sell the stew based on the amount of fish you want by the pound. We opted for 2 lbs of sea bass, and that turned out to be a lot of stew. It was enough for us 3 since we didn't order too many other dishes. Spicy broth was tasty, and the large skin & fat-on chunks of bass were good, but for me, I could only eat so much of it before the lure of the stew faded away. We also had a couple of vegetable dishes, one which included loofa (aka Chinese okra) and shrimp. Overall, the food was good, but nothing really stood out and wow'ed us. Service was good. It'll help if you come with someone who can read Chinese so that you can order dishes like the turtle soup that is only written in Chinese on their extensive menu. read more

My friend keeps raving about this place, he was coming here before they changed their name. It was called Xin Bao then. He's Japanese so I know he wasn't eating real authentic Chinese food but more of kind of dishes from Panda. So came here on a Friday night wasn't too busy they had 4 tables open. My family ordered the fish hot pot and pork belly. I ordered the fish fillet in lemon sauce. Besides the menu options they had additional items on the wall, sorry they were all in Chinese, so if you can read Chinese great. The flavors pop out at you every dish was so good, the fish was fresh. My family is coming back to try some of the other dishes next time. Came here upon the high recommendations of a great restaurateur. One man's meat is another man's poison. The signature fish hot pot was a let down. The fish tasted fishy with a hint of freezer burn. I would not order this dish again. The turtle soup was interesting and herby in taste. Good but not great. There were more chicken feet and pork bones in this soup pot than turtle. The fry mustard greens were good for a plain blanched vegetable with a soupy sauce. The opo with shrimp was ok. The opo was a tad old and not tender enough. Overall an ok dinner. Non of the dishes stood out. This was a very Cantonese restaurant and with a lot of down home Cantonese dishes.
