Came here to watch Oppenheimer. Definitely upped the experience for me here. The screen is HUGE and I appreciated how the aspect ratio would change during the movie to fit the scene better. It really made me feel like I was INSIDE the movie. It was right in your face. I was lucky enough to get there early and was able to get in line early and get good seats - upper middle. I think this is the best seat. I imagine it wouldn't look as good if you sat really low or really on the edge though. There's no reserved seating so make sure you come here early. Also, the seats are really packed in tightly so once you go in, it's hard to get out. Get your bathroom break and concessions in early! Will be back here for Dune! read more

So like normal, I'm going to start with what I HATE about this place. The fact that they don't assign seats when you buy in this day & age is insane! Had I known that it was going to be THIS packed, I would've shown up like an hour earlier! Secondly and this is huge, the fuckin seats don't recline. Do you have any idea how much my back hurt, sitting in tje fuckin neck-break row (The very front row) For THREE HOURS watching  DUNE 2??? Having said all of that, let me explain what I DID enjoy about my experience at The Boeing & PACCAR IMAX Theater at The Pacific Science Theater. It is the 2nd largest IMAX screen on the West Coast. The screen itself is 60 feet high by 80 feet wide & was introduced in 2015. The sound system is digital & is all encompassing in this somewhat dome-shaped theatre. After leaving the theatre, I am now considering getting a bigger smart TV (75-85 inches). The BEST addition, in my opinion, is that they have recently started selling craft beer & wine. Only local breweries & wineries so they are helping local businesses as well. Which is VERY fuckin cool. Now, would I recommend this theatre after all the bitching I just did? YES. NOW that I know what to expect, I can plan accordingly. Plus, this theatre has such a dedicated crowd of regulars. While I was there, it was apparent that a lot of these people enjoy seeing movies there and that made it suck a LITTLE less. read more

This is my favorite Movie Theater in the whole State of Washington!! There is no other theater, no other IMAX that compares to it at all! The screen is from ceiling to floor, and then some! It is absolutely huge! The stadium seating combined with the colossus of a screen means that there is not a bad seat in the house! The sound is impeccable and very immersive! Very loud yet well tuned! It will have great sound on both low range and high range frequencies. It is a nonprofit which gives you a little more warm fuzzies that the reasonable cost of your ticket is going back to the community. There are the standard modern concessions, with good popcorn, and also a variety of local beers, wines, and ciders!! Concessions are actually pretty affordably priced compared to other modern day theaters! Best place to see your event movie of the year! Some of the best movies I have seen here were Oppenheimer, 1917, Avengers Endgame, and Star Wars Episode 9. (Somehow, Palpatine returned... terrible movie, but at least the picture and sound were immaculate). Cheers! read more

They sold me a ticket for a 2:00 PM showing of a film. When I showed up, the 2:00 pm showing didn't exist. They explained that they had made an error and knew about the tickets being sold for a non-existent time. But they didn't email me to tell me in advance so I didn't have to drive all the way out and pay $40 in parking for a non-existent existent movie. The staff member I spoke with was extraordinarily rude. She sarcastically told me to "enjoy the parking garage" when I explained we had just paid $40 to park to see a movie that didn't exist. She laughed and generally found my wasted time and money very amusing. I then called to try to get a refund, where I was placed on hold for 20 minutes before being sent to a voicemail. They are incompetent, rude, belittling, and aggressive. Very negative experience and I would not recommend giving them your business. read more

I came here to watch Oppenheimer. I was really disappointed with a lot of aspects of this theater. I did not purchase any concessions, but they did seem to allow you to bring your own food. My partner and I arrived at least 30 minutes before the movie, and we were greeted with a huge line. Highly recommend coming here an hour or even more in advance because the best seats in this theater are definitely in the upper center dead on. At the line, it felt sweaty and hot with how many people were gathered there, and smelled a bit. The theater itself was well ventilated. I have a recent back injury and the seats were all straight up, and super uncomfortable to sit in for a long period of time, let alone for a 3 hour film. No reclining, and it's especially bad if you're late to the line and kinda forced to sit up front. In addition to that, there's very little leg room, and I say this as a short person. I can't imagine how cramped a taller person would've been in the seats. Very difficult for people to pass you, or if you have anxiety about passing people to use the bathroom you better just hold it. The film projection and sound itself was top quality. I don't have an eye for comparisons between IMAX experiences, but to a normie I think it's probably good. The screen is huge, loud bass during big booms, good immersion. If I could, I would have paid more for a better cohesive experience. I haven't looked into other theaters but I highly recommend finding one with a better seating situation. read more

Love this theater! Seats are comfortable and there's a high screen. Handicap seats are upstairs and if necessary, staff will escort you up in the elevator. I'm so glad we found this theater! The picture quality is seriously top notch-- I felt like I was IN the action of the movie itself. The sound quality was great and comfortably loud. Seats were standard but comfortable, and there was plenty of leg room where we were seated in the back row. They have popcorn, snacks, and an assortment of drinks to order. Bonus points: when I ordered my Junior Mints, they asked if I wanted them room temp or frozen. Everyone knows frozen Junior Mints are the best and this isn't typically an option at standard theaters. There were significantly less previews than in other theaters so keep that in mind timing-wise. There are also no reserved seats, which is a real bummer in 2023, so also keep that in mind. We arrived about 20 mins before showtime and the theater was about 60% full and really started to fill completely closer to showtime. I would've taken off a star for the lack of reserved seating but regular movie theaters don't have frozen Junior Mints, so we're even. Can't wait to come back! read more

An annual Christmas tradition of ours is to catch at least one blockbuster movie with family at the Boeing IMAX theater, located at the Seattle Pacific Science Center. We are lucky to have a relative who's a sponsor of the Science Center, so we normally get free passes to movies. Regular weekend/holiday prices are about $35. Note this is a Non-Profit theater, so things are a but different: * No movie trailers, other than a short promotional video about PSC and Seattle. * No late seating - the let the lines in and you need to find your seat quickly. * Limited concession options * Limited seating - I think the screen is gigantic floor-to-ceiling, but the theater is almost always 100% full. No reserved seating either. What hasn't changed is the IMAX experience - excellent sound and visuals, especially for 3D movies. There's no bad seat in the house, even from the sides or from the first few rows. Seats have also gotten better and more comfy over the years. TIPS * As for parking, we pay the $10-$13 (3 hrs) at the James Claypool Garage which is an easy walk to the PSC. * Make sure you go to the correct theater - the Boeing IMAX is located in a science building with a dome and you actually walk down a ramp. If you're walking outside toward water fountains and dinosaur statues - turn around since that's the Paccar IMAX for educational films! read more

Let's talk about this place. They start by herding you into a sphere of seating where you have no assigned seats. So I guess they want you to just get here an hour in advance or you get to sit way up front where I did. Those 5 rows in the front are not viewable options. I literally had to turn my head left to right to see content or I'd miss it because it's so close to the screen you can't see the full picture. Then there's the fun fact that my knees touched the seats in front of me. I realize I'm 6'2" but not even an airline seat is this cramped. People can't get by you. You can't get up from your seat because a barricade of human legs stops you in your tracks. I watched a woman hurl herself over the row of seats in front of me to get out. Seems like a serious fire hazard. In an emergency I'd assume everyone is just going to perish. Then the 3 hour movie is finally over. I can see a masseuse because my knees hurt and my neck is now completely mangled from trying to watch this movie to close to the screen. But wait... The neck beards on either side of me are still seated like this is a friggen marvel movie so I'm stuck now until someone in my row gets the hell up and leaves. After waiting what feels like forever I get to proceed to the exit. But not the way I came in. No, that's been barricaded off. I have to be herded up and out the top of the sphere like some death march of cows. Every step feels like an eternity because you're stuck behind boomers and children from out of town who are trying to locate family members dispersed among the theatre because assigned seats don't exist. Then as you finally arrive outside another line persists because tourists want to take photos of the space needle like it's some great wonder of the world. At this point I'm homicidal, hungry, have to pee and I'm surrounded by idiots from out of town. Never come here. This is the bad place. The way this place is designed I'm honestly surprised a tragedy hasn't occurred yet. This place reminds me of the Iroquois Theater in Chicago - 1903, go read that fun article. Other reviewers who mention that the theater does not assign seats have a great point. However, I love the walk underground to get to the venue. And it's a typical wonderful full IMAX screen. I saw "Godzilla Minus One" here and loved it. Along with Seattle's old Cinerama theater, now thankfully rescued by the city's film festival group, this is a treasured location. A must visit! The picture and sound are top notch. The concessions are another story. They have handmade menus but half of the items aren't available. The theater is losing money by not having items and it's disappointing to customers. I imagine employees get tired of telling customer after customer "we don't have that" or "we're out of that". It's a production to go to this theater because you have to pay for parking and walk a ways. Tickets are cheaper in other areas. This theater seems like it's run by the city which runs everything else poorly. Even though an employee comes in to announce, before the movie, that phones must be turned off, people still use their smart phones during the movie. It's very distracting and rude. Not surprised it happened though. People have been selfish and entitled for many years. read more

The Bad News: - This theater NEEDS Reserved Seating. The current seating system is holding it back from being a truly exceptional movie-going experience. The Good News: - HUGE 80 ft Screen is Breathtaking. (Especially for movies filmed in IMAX like Avengers.) - The IMAX 4K Laser projection, next-gen audio and screen size makes this a TRUE IMAX experience (unlike the "Lie-MAX" found in most AMC Theaters.) I recently went and saw a movie at the Boeing IMAX Theater (the first time since about a month after it opened) and I enjoyed myself. It's pretty hard to have a poor experience at a movie theater, at least from my experiences it is, so it's not surprising that I enjoyed it. A big "plus" for me is that there's only one movie showing, so there aren't a plethora of people in the concession lines and/or while waiting. I also liked the concessions were a little less expensive here than with AMC and/or Regal. Granted you can't get a "bucket" of popcorn, but for two "medium" drinks and an extra-large popcorn it was around $17, which isn't a "bad" value in 2019... The seating in the theater was nice. We were smack-dab in the middle, so we had a great view of the screen. The audio wasn't a loud as other movie-viewing experiences. There wasn't that seat-rattling bass that I've experienced elsewhere, but didn't have any problems with overall audio quality. All-in-all it was a good time. Comfortable seats, large screen, good audio, reasonably-priced confessions, and not a large crowd. Definitely wouldn't mind seeing a movie here again. read more

If you're going to see a movie--why not see it on an 11 story IMAX screen? My point exactly. Bought tickets online for an extra 250 pennies and quickly bypassed the ticket line only to find a bunch of Trekkies were already camped out waiting to see the 9pm screening--regardless there's plenty of cool things to do whilst waiting. No previews at this theatre so you really must arrive early--there's also an OZ like (#wizardof) announcement at the beginning of the screening letting you know a few key differences of the iMax experience. Came here several times as a young buck and at the recommendation of a family member came here to see Interstellar which was probably a top ten movie of the last decade for me (which brings up a compelling point about whether my feelings for the movie are causing me to see this theatre through rose colored lens'). Over Analysis leads to paralysis however so gonna stick to my 5 star guns. ****Cost of ticket is about 14.75 for an adult which is a small premium to pay in my book**** read more

So I'm a student and money is a little tight right now, so my roommate and I started the day off wondering what free (or, well, mostly free) stuff we could do today. I had a couple of free IMAX passes laying around (for documentaries and not the feature presentations), so we decided to hit up the Seattle Center and go watch Dinosaurs Alive 3D. The staff seemed alright, but I didn't really have to deal with them much. The screen and sound were great. There were a LOT of kids, but only one baby cried at the movie. Not bad. I wonder how many kids walked out thinking/saying they want to be paleontologists when they grow up! There were some glitches in the film where we had to close an eye or something to see the 3D without it being blurry, but it was mostly good. I'm glad we didn't have to pay for it (would have been ~$16), though, cause it was only a 40 minute film. The young woman that gave everybody instructions at the beginning and end seemed soooo "excited" to be there. It was kind of amusing listening to her and wondering what she was REALLY thinking. Over-all it's a nice theater, but not usually worth it unless it's one of those "special movies" that you just HAVE to see on a huge screen with great sound (especially if there's a 3D option). Oh, and you might find yourself waiting in line for a while. The only time I was disappointed here was when I agreed to join friends for Poseidon. That disappointment had nothing to do with the theater, but it was a good reminder to view a trailer and/or read about a film before paying $20+ to go see it at the IMAX (or anywhere else, really). read more

A friend and I took the child of another friend to see The Dark Knight at this theater. The whole experience was *supposed* to be phenomenal. It was not. First of all, the crowd management is, well, unmanaged. Chaos reigns supreme. Getting through the ticketing area was an exercise in patience. Buying popcorn and sodas was like running a gauntlet. And then, there was yet ANOTHER line to get into the actual theater. Since the show was sold out, there was absolutely no elbow room and you had better hope like hell that the people around you practiced good hygiene. (I wasn't that lucky. The dude next to me sat through the ENTIRE movie with his mouth hanging open breathing putrid garlic/onion breath all over everybody.) I could have lived with all of this, barely. Twenty minutes into the film, the movie stopped. I'd say the reel broke, but the whole thing is digital now. No reels. Just malfunction. After a few minutes, the lights came up. And stayed up for a good thirty minutes. This allowed us to all take note of exactly HOW crowded that theater was and panic just enough to start to sweat a little, raising the heat even more. For some it was obvious that minor irritation was quickly fermenting into seething anger. Once the malfunction was corrected and the film resumed, all was well. However, I'll never see another sold out film there again. Too freaky. read more

While we were walking in, all I could think of was how old and run down the place is starting to look. It seems really dated now and in need of a freshening up. With really popular movies, the place seems to get dirty quickly and that adds to the run down look. Inside, the seats are still okay and as long as you aren't camped out down in the very front, you're good to go. Nice quality and it added to the viewing. It was a nice friday evening and we spontaneously had in mind to go out to see a film. A short web search and a short walk later we purchased our tickets, drinks (not too pricey) and got in. Seats are free to choose which was nice, the seats are indeed pretty comfortable with enough space and the screen is just so huuuuge but at the same time sharp and bright. Prepare to have your Face blown off!! Yes, this screen is GIGANTE! I think the pre-movie staff schpiel quoted something like the quivalent of a 6 story building screen size and a sound system that would make George Lucas weep! The stadium style seating ensures no one's big melon will obstruct your view. A few key points, come early as the size of the theater for what they are showing can sometimes sell out (or buy on line). That being said, still come early because seating area is pretty important due to the size and angle of the screen. read more

This IMAX puts all other IMAXs to shame; the absolute best, largest, loudest screen/system that I've seen! Plus it's the same price as other faux "IMAX" theaters throughout the country (some of which are just a few feet larger than a regular screen), and the proceeds goes to the non-profit Pac Sci Center...what's the downside?!??! As with any theater, but especially with 3D movies, you want to sit in the sweet spot (sucks to get a seat on the periphery). This theater (and the Pac Sci Center) is a must visit if you haven't been before! I enjoy an IMAX movie from time to time, even if it comes with a serious case of vertigo. The IMAX at Pacific Science Center is that same great IMAX experience and the plus of this location is that if you are a Pacific Science Center member, you receive free tickets to several movies a year with a family membership (the educational movies, not new release.) This makes this IMAX experience fun and potentially cost effective. The PSC IMAX is a little dated --older facility, dated carpet, some of the seats need to be reupholstered from a comfort perspective but I do love the retro colors. This theateris somewhat lacking food options (typical theater faire, but no upgrades that have been emerging in the cinema world in the last few years) but on the other hand, they are very customer service focused and freely offer and stock free mini-bags of popcorn and water glasses and lids, which is thoughtful. While large, this location is smallish when compared to other IMAX theaters (San Francisco and Vancouver.) All in all, a good venue. Parking costs extra, but is somewhat reasonable in the nearby Pacific Science Center lot. Don't take chances with the 2 hour street parking unless you are willing to risk an expensive ticket. read more

Who doesn't like the big screen, and when I say big, I know of none larger than the IMAX at Pacific Science. Once you get over the way too loud sound system, the experience is magical. Warning, some films will make you nauseous if you are prone to motion sickness--I know of no cure for that short of closing your eyes during the more active scenes. The lines moved fast, the place was clean, and there were plenty of empty seats. I am guessing the Hunger Games are bringing in a lot of youngsters, so beware of that. :0) read more

The experience before and after a film here has really suffered. It used to be that, before a film began, there was a nice short film introduction to the Imax experience, showing off its features. This, along with an attendant intro, really set things up nicely for the feature film and got the audience excited! Now, there's a poorly done promo about Seattle and the Science Center that just blasts at you! Along with several loud commercials. The audio is not tuned for the theater it plays in, and is far louder and harsher on the ears than the feature film, which is tuned properly. Let's please go back to a nice Imax intro, and no blasting a cheesy seattle promo at the audience. Additionally, the special lighting in the theater that set the tone before the film (LEDs on the walls) haven't been used in years, only the bright worklights above greet guests, which should really only be used to clean/maintain the theater. Not before a showing. Other areas of the theater are worn (especially the carpet), and now when I walk into the building, the first impression, I feel like I'm entering a daycare, with more tacky elements added to the lobby area each year. I love having attractions for kids, but it can be done much more tastefully and more off to the side. Worst of all, I was greeted by staff who really had no interest in being courteous. Did I catch them on a bad day? It wasn't even crowded at the time. I've been coming to this fantastic theater since it opened, so I hold it to a high standard. Sad to see it in this state, and it wouldn't be hard to fix much of this. read more

I am a fan of the screen size, speaker quality, and cleanliness of the theater. This is the only true IMAX screen I've been able to locate in the Seattle area, if I'm missing something and you are reading this, please share. The sound quality is absolutely amazing, crisp, clean, and deep bass with out rattle. Finally, the seats and floors of the theater itself were clean and smelled fresh. Which is a pleasant surprise at any theater. I am not a fan of the no reservation system. I understand that this is a science & education theater after all, however, it'd be nice to have a reservation system since you aren't seated until about 5min before show time. read more

When there is a movie actually filmed with the IMAX print you don't want to cheat yourself and see it anywhere else in Seattle. This was the case recently with Dunkirk. Really enjoyed the movie, but seeing it here made it exceptional. The scenes with the fighter planes were so loud you actually could feel the rumble of the engines and with the full screen used the visuals were spectacular. Over the years I've seen quite a few movies and have to say that the seats are much better than they used to be, they're nice and big so you don't feel squished in. If you go on an opening weekend be prepared to sit next to people since it is usually pretty full when one of the big new movies comes out.So that extra room really pays off. Before my most recent visit this place would have received four stars because of their concessions, but upon my latest trip I found out they had added the buttery topping machine for their popcorn! Oh glorious day! Before the popcorn always tasted fresh, but was not as flavorful without that so bad for you hot oil to pour over the top. But hey, if I'm going to an action-packed summer flick I want to go all in, and the popcorn is a big part of that. They've updated it and that bumps them up a star. The lines can be a bit crazy with shows like Star Wars having a group waiting outside, one group upstairs, another showtime waiting in the line downstairs, and the folks inside watching the current show. To get a good seat you might need to show up early, or you can wait a few weeks after the initial rush of any new movie and only have to show up 10-30 minutes early to grab a prime seat. read more

The Boeing IMAX is a great theater. Very pricey, but it is a very nice movie experience, for those movies that should be seen, in IMAX 3D. The employee that sold us our tickets was not very customer service oriented, but sadly that is typical, in Seattle, and many cities. We were visiting Seattle, so had never been, and he just told us to go all the way up, and take a right, when we asked where the IMAX theater was, because it is in the Science Museum. He seemed bothered that we wanted to buy tickets and ask where to go. But, I guess most Seattle residents know where the theater is. You go up, take a right, and then, go down again, following the signs, (as another more helpful employee told us). The screen was huge. The sound system was great. I would have turned it up, but it was plenty loud. If you have children the Science Museum looks like it would be a great place, to take them. read more

As far as I'm concerned, these sorts of theaters are the only real Imax theaters. The new "Imax" theaters that are cropping up everywhere are indistinguishable from regular theaters -- to me. Yet, these crappy Imax theaters charge more. Why? There is nothing like seeing a good action movie at this theater. It is the ONLY way to see movies like Inception, Star Trek, etc. Sure it costs more, it's harder to park, there's usually a line, but it's well worth it. read more

I have always had such a fun time watching movies here from The Matrix 3 to Avatar (which i think was well suited for the screen). Yesterday, I saw Eclipse (yeah I'm a closeted twilight person) with a group of my friends and I had no idea that they were gonna open the circus exhibit for the movie goers to hang out in before the midnight showing. Also they served appetizers such as pulled pork sliders, red velvet cupcakes, cookies, and a complimentary drink. I then find out from one of my friends that the IMAX theater does this with movies on opening night. So cool! read more

I recently came here to see 1917. The theater is MASSIVE, the seats are comfortable and they serve alcohol! What really led me to write this was how friendly and attentive the staff were. The staff had brightly colored hair, were smiling and making small talk and jokes with my customers and each other. When my friends and I wanted to change our mind about our order after we had already rung out, they were happy to fix it for us even though there was a bit of a line. PLUS they offer chilled Junior Mints!! The speech they give at the beginning of the show is a nice personal touch, and the usher delivering it had so much character. At most other theaters you can tell how overworked, bored and miserable the employees are, but that wasn't my experience at the science center. I own a bar myself, so I know how invaluable a team that loves their work can be. The science center is lucky to have these people. read more

I saw Black Panther at this IMAX and it was incredible. It's reasonably priced, it has a ton of seats, the image quality and the sound quality is breathtaking. A fantastic place to see a movie, and the perfect place to see Black Panther. read more

--The seats were gross - TONS of stains on most of them, they were very dirty and kind of grossed me out. Should have been replaced many years ago by the look of them. --Not all the seats tilt back, only some do. (Looked like the lowest two rows tilt back but I'm not sure.) --Parking is a nightmare. Give yourself a good 45 min to find parking and then find your way to the IMAX. There is no signage to help you and it is is right downtown. Nightmare. Forget about finding street parking. Even the lots are super confusing and rates are not displayed. Which one is for the Pacific Science Center? Where IS the Pacific Science Center once you park?? I just saw the new Star Trek here and had my face blasted off from crushing sound and deadly perfect imaging! This place has provided the best Imax experience i have seen so far. I can't wait to see what the Bellevue one is like. The seating is very comfortable and the sound/imaging is like nothing else you've ever experienced. I have come to the conclusion that an Imax theater can probably make ANY movie good. I hate the Transformers movie but after seeing the trailer, i was itching to see it ASAP. I know i will definitely be coming here to see Harry Potter. I highly recommend coming early for a good seat. You don't want to end up sitting on the side in the very front row. It's located smack dab in the heart of Seattle. Surrounded by busy streets, busy sidewalks, and the famous Space Needle! It was our first time here we watched the movie, "IT 2" Watching this movie in an IMAX theater was amazing! The sound level was on point. This movie was quite scary so anything that made me scream was more intense, haha!! Seats were comfortable and clean. When I walked into theater it reminded me of an arena. It was a great experience we enjoyed ourselves. But you might want to bring a sweater with you. It felt cold after the first hour. Concession stand had a long line. The prices were reasonable though; a lot less than what I paid for at other movie theaters. Beer & wine is also sold here. But it's only 1 alcoholic drink per sale. Jae, at the concession stand was very helpful & knowledgeable on what type of beers they had. I didn't feel rushed at all. Went to see Interstellar on 11/22 9:45PM showing. Have been here before about 3-4 years ago to see 3D movie - can't remember which movie I saw but was impressed with the quality of the theatre. This time it seemed just average and nothing special. Didn't get that special effect or special movie experience. Color seemed off and the two stains or defects on the huge screen was very disappointing and distracting. Seats are getting old and again the sharpness of the screen wasn't there. Maybe got spoiled watching movies on my LED. Arrived 1hour early parked my car paid$6.00 for parking got to the Will Call to get my tickets no lines got my tickets paid already online $49.00 for three tickets. About 60+ people in line already waited until about 9:30PM got in, got the seats in the 5th row from the back. Would recommend to watch 3D but as of the IMAX not sure.
